I am obsessed with chile rellenos - I like to make little chile relleno tacos - bitesize pieces of heaven - a slice of chile relleno, rice, beans, salsa!!! I know their specialty is the chicken soup, I just wanted my chile relleno. And no regrets - it hit the spot! The rice and beans were standard, corn tortilla thick w a little chew (yum) and the chile relleno - solid. The taste was better than the look. Happy.

Yummmo! Everything was delicious. We were starving after a soccer tournament and this was close by. The people were very friendly and the vibe was nice. We definitely saved this place for next time we are in town.

The texcoco soup is darn good. This time I paired it with a beef crispy taco and both came out great.

was in South O (picking up my kid's repaired Tacoma at Beaudry's) and was a bit peckish. stopped at JORGE's MEXICATESSEN for a quick bite -- chicken rolled tacos with cheese and guacamole. went back a week later for smothered and covered with guacamole, sour cream, cheese, shredded lettuce, and tomatoes. both were excellent. the "deluxe" version was really filling. my early lunch was massive enough was still full at dinner. place is tidy. woman at the register was engaging. enjoyed the experience enough ate at the Encinitas location a few days later with the family. extensive menu. really solid fast Mex.

8/1/24 Thursday 3:00 pm We stumbled upon this place on Yelp and decided to give it a try. We were greeted promptly and waited on in a timely manner. Food was just ok. The carne asada burrito we ordered had a lot of excess tortilla. In fact the first 2 bites was nothing but tortillas. The meat was tough, and the sour cream and cheese were cold. When we get this type of food to go, we can always microwave it but gosh.... Sitting down to eat in a restaurant,the food should be hot. We asked the gal for warm chips and she said she could dip ours back in oil. LOL! No!!! Wrong answer. We paid for the chips so we expect something fresh, not chips that have been sitting under your warmer for hours. We used about 10 of our baby wipes trying to get the sticky stuff off our table. Air conditioner was inoperable and very humid in the dining room. We spotted a split AC but it was not running. Overall, we have had better and more than likely, will NOT be returning.

Saw they had 4.7 stars so we had to check the food out ! We were not disappointed! The salsa was excellent and a little spicy. I had a carne asada taco and a carnitas enchilada. They were delicious. The corn tortilla was very thick and flavorful. The refried beans were flavorful and the flour tortilla was big , warm and fresh ! I will be back !

I had been craving crispy tacos for a while....tho the street tacos are good in the area--these crispy tacos are 10/10! The salsa has more than enough spice Definitely fulfilled every craving we had!! We'll be back soon! read more

Jorge's is known for their Chicken Soup, and rightly so, because it is delicious. But Jorge also has a lot of other great stuff on the menu. In addition to their excellent Chicken Soup (served with warm tortillas) We also ordered the Crispy Taco combo plate, and the massive Fajita Burrito. The #7 combo plate came with two crispy tacos (1 chicken, 1 beef) rice & beans. The taco shells were not too greasy and the meat was nicely seasoned. The Rice & Beans were fine. The Chicken Fajita Burrito is enormous, and loaded with big chucks of chicken, onions, bell peppers and tomatoes. The service here is very friendly and helpful, and there is plenty of room to eat inside. My only complaint is that they don't have a salsa bar, and they only offer one salsa, which isn't spicy. Regardless, I will be back for more. read more

I'm bummed to say I have to update my review and take one star away. While Jorge's chicken soup and breakfast burritos are still my absolute favorite, I was recently craving a California burrito and Jorge's unfortunately really missed the mark for me. To be fair, maybe it's listed on their menu on-site, but to make a California burrito with no french fries and NO GUACAMOLE feels criminal. My husband made a special trip out to secure my craving the other night, but when it arrived home, I asked him whether he'd gotten the order wrong and ordered a carne asada burrito instead? He checked the receipt and for nearly $15, he had in fact ordered a California burrito. Inside there was only carne asada, potatoes, sour cream and cheese. I could probably forgive the potatoes in place of fries, but there was no guacamole in sight and I was completely underwhelmed. I ate half of it hoping it would be so amazing as-is, but was left feeling really disappointed. Insanely expensive and just not what I've come to expect as a native Californian. Service is still always friendly and fast, food quality is great but you'll never catch me ordering a California burrito here again. Pleeeeease Jorge's, for the love of everything, make me the California burrito of my dreams and I will continue loving you forever!! read more

This place is fantastic! I reminded me of an authentic restaurant with the look and feel of Mexico. The staff was really nice and friendly. I felt sorry for them because they were very busy (that is a good thing, lots of people enjoying their food). All the people in the kitchen were moving as fast as they could and the man who helped us was so nice. I tried one of the fish tacos (cod, not the usual talapia) and their rolled taquitos. Prices were very reasonable and very tasty. read more

Ok so Mexican food is very subjective. Everyone likes different styles and flavoring. Past decade spent in Encnitas with some great options. Moved to Carlsbad and was trying to find a Cali B that matched my profile. Couldn't find one that hit. I'm not a fan of a lot of pico in mine and most places do this around here Carne is tasty. Has tasty potatoes instead of fries. Sour cream ads good flavor. Nice melted cheese. Enjoyed this one. 5 of 5. Only one salsa though. It's a salsa style red. read more

Not sure who's been giving these guys 5-stars but, as a native San Diegan, I have to honestly say this spot is pretty average based on their CA burrito. Using dry potato chunks instead of fries was a bad decision by these guys and kind of sacrilegious to be honest. Also, the burrito barely has any sour cream (except for one end of the burrito which shows laziness). Lastly, the hot sauce was underwhelming. It's kind of Americanized with too much tomato and not enough kick. Place is clean inside though and service is great. Just disappointed. read more

5 stars just for the chicken soup! Haven't had anything else there, but man, this soup is amazing. It's hearty, the chicken is so tender, there's rice, big slices of avocado, and chopped tomatoes and onions. And it's salty, just nearly too salty. It will bring you back if you're sick, hungover, or just plain tired. We are obsessed. read more

Delicious food - best chicken soup and wonderful customer service! How have I not been here yet? I will be back frequently. Today I had the chicken soup and a crispy chicken taco. Nothing was greasy. Not fine dining but VERY fine, authentic Mexican food with a refreshingly light touch. Over 3 weeks we've had: Mexico City chicken soup (indeed THE best!) Chicken hard shell taco twice! (tender chicken, perfect shell) Shrimp taco Huevos Mexicana w egg whites (spicy and perfect) Chicken tostada (tender chicken, tasty beans, great guacamole) Breakfast burrito w bacon (outstanding) Sweet people. Excellent! Food 5 stars! Service 5 stars! We ordered the 6 beef taquitos to share. The guy taking our order was extremely friendly and helpful with menu items and info. The taquitos were crunchy and the meat was tender. They're topped with lettuce, sour cream, guacamole and tomatoes . They also come with onions and cilantro which we left off. We also ordered a side of beans which tasted fresh and homemade. Definitely returning! read more

Best ceviche I have had in north county San Diego outside of Dija Mara (which has the best ceviche in the known universe). It is extremely fresh and not overpowered by acidity, fishy smells or rubbery shrimp. The ceviche here is legit. Great. AND ONLY $10 (for cameron). If you order anything here, get the ceviche first. I'm anxious to try their aguachile now. We also ordered the fajitas ("suprema" with chicken, steak and shrimp). Fajitas did not come out sizzling at all. I have never seen this before. Also, there were only two shrimp. The steak/carne was bland and dry. Not great. Wife ordered the Sopes (3) and mother ordered the Enchiladas Cameron. The sopes were okay, but a bit bland. Wife had to salt everything on the plate. The enchiladas had a sauce my mom said was too sweet. She wasn't a fan. For all three dishes to be a miss is completely strange considering the sheer number of 5-star reviews. I want to believe. We must have come on an off-day, but the place was busy. Quite a few larger parties were here, so this place is popular with the natives. We also grabbed a Model and a Corona. Only $5 for the beers! Total for everything came to $117.64 (with tip). Not great, necessarily, but good and the prices are some of the best around. They have a ton of options, and lots of drinks, including beer. We were just picking up, and it was a very hot day. The restaurant didn't have any air-conditioning so it was quite warm inside. Most people were eating outside. We'll be back again to try some other menu items given that their prices are generally pretty good.

I am giving this restaurant 3 stars, because their food is still AMAZING and their staff is super nice and I believe deep down inside that they just had a REALLY OFF night. We had reservations for a party of 9 last night. The table was set up nicely and accommodated a few extra if needed, which I thought was cool. We started with some adult beverages: an Old Fashion, some Hotel Nacionals, a Fashionably Late, and a couple of beers. Everything started great. Dennis, our server was very cool and friendly and gave great suggestions. We ordered the mac and cheese sides and they were delicious with huge pieces of savory bacon in them. We also ordered the brussel sprouts which we never received and didn't even realize it until the very end when we received the bill because of all the other issues we had... but we'll get to that in a moment. But let's talk about what did go well... the delicious food we did get. We ordered the Pig burger which was sooo good and came with crispy fries. The fish for the fish and chips were 2 huge pieces and were delicious, came with yummy seasoned waffle fries and the tiniest tartar sauce and malt vinegar. I had to request 4 more for that amount of fish, but no big deal. Dennis brought out as much as we needed. Their ranch sauce is really good too. Don't judge just because it's a little peachy'ish and looks thousand island'ish. lt's still some very good ranch. My son said he really tasted the bitterness of beer in the fish batter but maybe it was just in that piece he had; I could not taste it in the piece of fish I ate. The short rib was really tender and delicious... the sauce was just a tad salty for my taste, but the mashed potatoes it sat on sort of balanced it out a little. The fried chicken thighs were really cooked well, juicy, crispy and seasoned perfectly. We ordered two Teres Major steaks. One rare with mashed potaoes, one medium rare with grits. The rare one came out medium and without any mushrooms, took FOREVEEERR to remake (the rest of the table was almost done with our meals...& not sure why it took so long since the restaurant wasn't that busy and it's a RARE steak). The one with grits came with mashed potatoes instead of grits. Dennis was super nice and apologetic and corrected both mistakes when we let him know. He then brought us a big bowl of grits. The manager (blonde gal) came over and apologized for the mistakes tonight, letting us know that usually does not happen, and let us know she'd be comping one of our steaks and would be bringing a dessert on them. We thought that was very nice of them. However, as nice a gesture. we never did receive that dessert. My husband handed Dennis his credit card before the bill arrived (before our friends could try to pay the bill) and not sure why but our bill never came, and we never saw Dennis again either after he boxed up our leftovers and took the card. We had to ask another server for our bill because we had been waiting for quite a while... and needed to head out as we were already late to meet friends at a lounge. The other server came back with my husband's credit card, the bill (that's when I finally noticed the brussel sprouts sides we never got but were charged), and let the server know. He immediately apologized and took it off the bill. So I'm not sure what happened last night at Flying Pig...missing and charged brussel sprouts, steak overcooked, missing mushrooms, mashed potatoes instead of grits, then a comped dessert promised but never delivered. WOW. I had to apologize to my friends. I was totally hyping up this place and it underdelivered. They automatically got their 20% gratuity for our party of 9 but anyone that knows me knows how much I absolutely love great service combined with exceptional food and that could have easily been a 30-35% tip had they been on their A game! We only come to Oceanside once a year. Maybe we will try again next year. Maybe not. This trip was about trying out a bunch of different restaurants and giving honest reviews on dishes/businesses we haven't tried before, or in a long time. Do better guys.
