My parents had a leak at their residence. I provided them with the numbers of several roofing companies I found on Yelp, including AL Roofing. My parents called, and sent pics. The rep they spoke with indicated that they were busy but they would call back the next day. No one called back and my parents moved on. 12/25/2019: maybe if you spend less time writing responses to negative yelp reviews in which you imply that the reviewer is lying, you would have time to actually return calls. Because my landscaping project segued into a potential rain gutter issue (not enough down spouts) I've been searching Yelp for rain gutter companies. AL Roofing & Rain Gutters came with 37 reviews and 4-1/2 stars, more than enough of a recommendation for me to given them a call. Professional on the phone and when scheduling the appointment, their estimator, Nick called me when he was a few minutes out to let me know he was coming. Just finished talking to Nick about my situation. To my surprise he recommended a completely different course of action. Rather than just agreeing to quote down spouts that might not fix the problem, Nick suggested checking with a plumber about snaking the existing down spouts. It resulted in no new business for him this time but I was very impressed by his integrity and home maintenance being what it is, I know soo we or later I will have a reason to need a roofing or rain gutter company. It's been raining quite a bit in Kaimuki. My garage and back unit was getting flooded. I love to save water in barrels and I was losing a lot. Who you gonna call? Yelp....and Yelp to the Rescue. I sent out a couple of request for quotes and Nick of AL Roofing got back to me really quick. He messaged me to come over and give me an estimate. He quickly measured my roof space and provided a work plan. I felt the price was fair. He was able to schedule within a week's time. The guys came on time and were very professional. Very disappointed with the service or lack of service. Facts: 1) Made contact on 2/6/19. Nick who I spoke with asked me to send an email with pertinent information. The email was sent on 2/6/19. It is not 2/26/19 and I have yet to get a reply. 2) I left 3 voice messages on 2/10; 2/13; 2/16 along with my contact information. And my contact information was also on the previous email sent. Yet, none of my messages were returned and Nick said he only got one voice message. If one message was received, why wasn't I contacted? 3) On 2/12 I called and Nick answered the phone. He said he would go to our property and get an estimate. He said he would go to our property at 12:30pm. 4) Today, 2/26/19 I called for a 3rd time. Instead of using my work phone, I used my cell and Nick answered. I was told the following: -Nick said he got my email. -Nick said his partner visited the property. -Nick said he visited the property. It is 20 days since I made initial contact and I have not gotten a quote. My concerns are: 1 - Timeliness of contact. 2 - Inability to communicate. 3 - Lack of remorse for slow service (in my opinion). 4 - Slow speed of sending an estimate. 5 - Inability to apologize and accept accountability. This is how it will play out. I believe excuses will be made. Then Nick will wish me the best as I look for other vendors. I have taken notes every time I have emailed; called; or spoke to Nick. Write to AL here on Yelp because we had a Tesla Solar Roof installed and needed new gutters all the way around our house. Got a reply pretty quickly from Nick who asked me when he could come by. I gave him my schedule but didn't get reply. Wrote again and gave him my cell again, and asked him to contact me. He finally did, and then came by to take a look at our roof. He told me he'd need his partner to look at our roof and said that he'd text me within the next couple days to set up another appointment. I waited a week, but didn't hear anything, so I texted asking when his partner could come by.... never received a reply and gave up after that. Nick is really nice guy but, unfortunately, isn't good about returning texts, which can get pretty frustrating. We had a meeting set for well over a week. 20 minutes past the time were set to meet I call his phone to check on his ETA. He says he's stuck at a project all day and unable to meet. Oh and he had the wrong time for our meeting in his calendar anyway. Says he tried to call but doesn't apologize. I say thanks. He hangs up on me. To clarify, he called my husband at 10:14 am (14 min after our appt time) and didn't leave a message. I also emailed him at 10:10am to check on where he was but he still hasn't responded. The workers showed up on time, were friendly and courteous. Finished their job expeditiously and with no fuss. Cleaned up well after themselves, getting rid of nails and screws and debris from the old rain gutters. New rain gutters look great. They billed me in the method I requested. I had talked to Nicholas last year. He came out promptly and did a thorough inspection and gave us a reasonable quote. He really impressed me with his professionalism. Just when we were about to hire him, we decided to go with a Tesla roof. Unfortunately, the cost of the roof (which was going to require an electrical upgrade) was too much. Nicholas was gracious when I told him we were going to go with a Tesla roof, and was even more gracious when I came back to him less than a week ago and told him the Tesla roof wasn't going to work out. He sent me a revised quote (which was only nominally more expensive) on Monday, and they were out on Wednesday to demo, Thursday to put on the roof and Friday to put on the gutters. I found Nick on Yelp with an additional positive referral from our realtor. I emailed him a very detailed description of a gutter issue. He texted back within minutes and came by to assess the leak the next week. He was prompt and professional, and I even texted him video of the leakage later so he could have a better look. He suggested simple caulking first, rather than getting into a full gutter replacement. It took us several weeks to schedule. It IS the rainy season, and he had several large jobs with entire roofs leaking, but I kept checking in with him. He was polite and responded each time to my little ol' job. Today texted, came by, caulked and sealed the leaking gutter, and didn't even charge us. I needed my roof replaced prior to getting solar installed in the next 3 weeks. Nick texted me back within an hour after I called and left a message and set up a home visit. He had an estimate to me in a few days and had the roof done within 2 weeks after I first contacted him. I also contacted 2 other companies, one of whom came out and assessed the roof but then didn't get back to me with an estimate until Nick was already done with my roof. Erwin and his crew did a fantastic job reroofing my house and carport all in less than a days work. They came early & on-time, didn't waste any time, and started banging out the work and were halfway done before noon. They stripped off my existing roof & disposed of it in their huge dump truck. I give plenty of props to Erwin & his men as I live out in Ewa, as it gets super hot out here in the area Plains while da crew kept @ it just working. I was outside almost the whole time and I never heard any of them complain once about anything even the heat. They're also all respectful (always asks to enter any part of house & use bathroom). For my main roof, they used Nail Pro Shingle (lifetime), r&r hood vents, pipe jack, and drip edge. And, they made sure that all the bolts & ss foots we're properly remounted for my electrician & plumber to readily put back my PV panels & solar hot h20 heater panel. (SEE BEFORE AND AFTER PIC) When it was all said & done, I was impressed w/ their work- fast, professional, and most of all clean. I went up and physically checked roofing job, and Erwin walked me through Pretty much everything-- from where my leak was- no more, and that one rotted plywood- replaced. To redo your roof is not cheap, but I believe the workmanship, professionalism, and value his crew showed in the end product & got my monies worth. Looking for a rain gutter company and unfortunately fell upon this one via Yelp. Two stars was given only because Nick (worker/evaluator) actually took the time to come out to my place, otherwise would've been a one star. He spent literally 1 min talking with me, took a measurement and said I'll email you the quote. It's now been 3 days since. I've texted him kindly reminding him about the no email, thinking I may have sent the wrong email... Nothing. I sent one more follow-up text and still nothing. No response, no explanation, nothing...
