Food trucks can be hit or miss. Al Pastor hits every single component: friendly, informative service, nice location by the beach, and delicious food. I had a chicken taco and a pork taco. Each were filled to overflowing with tasty pork and sumptuous and moist chicken. They were both heavy on meat but light on fillers. A note again on the service. Ono grindz! Great stop on the way up to North Shore (or any time, really) - the fresh fish tacos that day were ahi tuna. They were so juicy and flavorful and the sauce on top was de-lish! Great beans, rice, and guacamole too. There are picnic tables, a view of the water, and on-site parking, so it's easy to pop off the highway for a bite, and then head back on your journey. The food takes a while to make but the biggest issue is the blandness of the food. This is yet another tourist trap that is starting to be a trend across Kauai where these vendors gouge you with their price and in return give you a crappy product. We ordered the fish tacos and chicken tacos and they were totally bland. The beans were bland. The rice was bland. I even ordered the chips and salsa where I got chips and the salsa was pathetic - just sliced tomatoes! You pay 16 bucks for these lame meals and you just end up feeling ripped off. I see the same thing at the famers market like Princeville and hanalei where they charge you 10 bucks for a freakin coconut. These vendors wouldn't last a month on the mainland where you would actually have to compete on quality and price instead of trapped tourists. Get your act together and earn your money with a decent product at a decent price! read more

Amazing fish tacos, with the largest amount of meat I've ever had! Had seared ahi that was at least a 3 to 4 ounce steak per taco, not that chopped up cat food you get at other places. Also very friendly staff, and very fast service. We will certainly be back. Mahalo! read more

Al Pastor was so good, we came here 3 times on our trip to Kauai. The ahi tuna tacos we got each time were so consistent, fresh, and well seasoned. You can order them a la carte or with a side of rice and beans. The tacos are so good, I would order as many as you can and skip the sides this time. They do have hot salsa, but watch out. Highly recommended, nice Mexican food truck. The tacos are very authentic tasting and had just the right amount of spice my wife told me the workers were very nice when she did the ordering. If you were looking for a great tasting tacos, come here! The parking is great and is right next to a nice beach. Do not feed the chickens they're very aggressive and will cause a mess! They have many things on the menu but fresh fish is a must. We are definitely planning on coming back to this food truck on our next trip. They have many more things on the menu that we want to try and I hear all of them are good. They will ask you the temperature for the fish and you are better off to go with medium rare or medium. The tacos come with a side of rice and beans which is not always the normal for most places, what a deal! If you like it more spicy ask for the green sauce and they will give it to you, it is very good! read more

We got the nachos which I wouldn't really recommend (in my opinion over priced for basic chips and pico de gallo that goes on the side). We also got the fish taco and the shrimp taco. The fish was very fresh and they cook it how you like (we got medium rare). They give you a big portion of fish. These tacos were pretty tasty, especially for Hawaii (not the best Mexican food in Hawaii but you go to Hawaii for the views, ocean, and poke not Mexican food). Although we had heard great things about the fish tacos here, I actually preferred the shrimp ones. But both were good and the service was friendly. There's plenty of parking. read more

We were so excited to see this taco truck open and serving lunch after reading all the positive reviews. BUT oh my; what a disappointment we both had the Ahi tuna tacos, mine was supposed to be well done (it wasn't) and his was supposed to be rare (it wasn't either) they were both medium. Neither was freshly made, beans came straight out of a can. Rice was stale and dry and were aptly fed to the chickens in the park adjacent to the food truck parking lot. These are some of the best tacos you can find in Hawaii! Located in a food truck square along the coast in Kapaa. Parking is a little goofy but the town is quite walkable so find a spot and walk over. Or if you rent a bike, the Kapaa bike path runs super close. I ordered their fresh fish tacos (ahi the day I went). It was cooked medium rare and had so much flavor! Their salsa and toppings were great additions. My husband ordered the shrimp tacos and was equally impressed. We traded a bite of each and we each thought we had chosen the better taco! If you order the platter, you get 2 tacos with rice, beans, and guac. The rice and beans are decent and the guacamole is above average. Honestly tho, next time I would just order an extra taco and skip the sides. read more

I will reiterate, this is the best taco truck in Kaua'i! I had their Pastor tacos which were absolutely delicious! A little logistical difference, as several of the food trucks have banded together (wagon train style), and the seating area is between all the trucks which makes finding a place to sit and eat way easier. Holy cow. We're from So Cal and these tacos were bomb as he**!! Great place to stop and get some lunch. It didn't disappoint.

2* for food, extra star for price. If you're going to name your truck Al Pastor, your Pastor better be good and the Pastor tacos were very average, though you do get a good portion for $4. They serve them on two standard Guerrero-type corn tortillas you can buy 30/$1 in California and I split mine into 2 tacos, so I look at it as $2/street taco, which is a great price for the island! However, any decent pastor from a taqueria in California in San Diego, L.A. or the Bay Area would blow this place out of the water. The meat was on the drier side, there was zero caramelization and the meat was devoid of flavor. They skimped on the guacamole taquero, which I can understand since avocados are stupid expensive in Hawaii and no salsa was offered, unfortunately (but they did try to upsell me three times!). I know they make hundreds of Pastor tacos a day and I may be an outlier. It's hard to make a living off of a food truck on Kauai and they're trying hard, but from my 2 tacos, align your expectations accordingly and you'll be happy. If nothing else, you get decent food for a very reasonable price, IMHO. Most Americans whose only access to Mexican food is some Darden or RealMex-owned restaurant would love this place, but honestly, even the huge chains serve pretty good pork nowadays. Very underwhelming. Two tacos, some beans and rice make up their taco plate, which costs upwards of $10. I could look past that if the tacos were delicious. Unfortunately, they were quite ordinary. The garlic shrimp tacos lacked the bite of garlic or the freshness of the shrimp. The ahi taco was good but nothing to write home about. The taco shells, the filling, sauce none of them really had anything defining to write about. Maybe some of the other tacos will pack more flavors, but don't see myself going back to try them. read more

These are some serious tacos! They might just be the best tacos I've ever had to be honest. Located on the side of the road next to little greek town, this food truck is simply not one to mess with. I know a lot of people who are skepticle of eating at food trucks, understood, but this one is a must try! My new wife and myself stopped by here as our last hurrah on the way to the airport to go back to new york. After almost missing our flight for these tacos, we both took a deep breathe and said, yup, it was totally worth it. We both each got an al pastor taco and a fish taco. These tacos are LOADED, there's no skimping here that's for sure. The al pastor was cooked to perfection and slightly spicy, the flavors are what put them above all else. they were nothing less than amazing. Now on to the fish taco, one bite and this taco demanded whose you're daddy?! Hands down best fish taco i've ever had. Not only was the fish cooked perfectly, but the sauce they put on top was sooooo good. I find myself waking up in the middle of the night craving these bad boys. We have lived on Kauai for 3 years and I am pretty sure I have tried fish tacos at every restaurant on the island. These are hands down the best. I eat here weekly. The lady who runs this little food truck is named Fawn and she is literally the sweetest. She greets her guests with the sweetest voice and "our fresh fish today is ahi" every time. Literally, I've never been here when the fresh fish WASN'T ahi, but no complaints from me because the ahi is so fresh and perfectly prepared. Don't even bother to get fish tacos anywhere else--they won't compare. And her beans, rice and guacamole that come with it are pretty darn good, too! read more
