Al Mac's Diner is a diner. A diner is not a gourmet place with nice furniture, nor is it a refined atmosphere. A diner is a simple place that is timeless. Al Mac's is simple and timeless... Nothing too interesting or trending on the menu. No pancakes decorated with clown faces or colored sprinkles. No low-fat keto crap either. No poke bowls, etc. Very basic stuff here. Moey's sammie was wicked greasy and yummy. My Chix and Waffs were OK but were Tenders (not bone-in) and had White Gravy. Waffs were very soft and well-made and were the star. The dish was quite teenie however and I could have easily eaten two orders. Let's just say, they have coffee and they have eggs n' things. It's food. The establishment is appropriately janky, i.e., beat up and old. Friendly enough service. Food is diner quality... Recommended if you want to dine in a diner... It's legit... My review is as basic as Al Mac's Diner... Kiss my grits!

We originally were looking for another restaurant but when the parking issue prevented that, out popped this diner. I've been in those glossy chrome and plastic diners in NJ. Gaudy. Al Mac's diner is a no frills throw back to the thirties and forties. What's outstanding is the food. We sat on leather green and white retro chairs at a black topped table. We were greeted with a smile by Cheyenne. I asked her to guess what we wanted from the dinner menu and she knew we wanted the meat loaf. Just wonderful. It's served with lumpy mashed potatoes, two large cuts of meat loaf and a bowl of brown gravy. This is basic food done right. The coffee was unlimited. I knew there was a secret ingredient in the food which I will now incorporate in my version. In a few weeks we're going for breakfast. We're looking forward to their versions of pancaked and French toast. Had I room after this meal, I would have had the bread pudding. It's a warm memory. This is a good place to go for well prepared food. Oh, the bathroom was clean but like the rest of this historic diner, it's basic.

The eggs were cooking perfectly and were very fresh. The yolks were almost a dark orange when I broke them. Some of the best over easy eggs I have had . The Portuguese sweetbread was huge and thick and tasted marvelous, would definitely come back just for this !!!! The only thing that I did not like was the home fries. Even my fiancé who never heard of things called spices thought these home fries were bland. They were also very soft and mushy. The customer service was outstanding!!!!!!

Great old time diner tahr takes me back a few decades. Super friendly service and very reasonable prices. Full assortment of breakfast and lunch options with a slight Portuguese flair. The your choices omelet (including a very good caciola) is a heck of a value at 10.99. No frills, just good and plentiful. Cannot go wrong!

Home fries, sausage, eggs over easy, toast and pancakes. :)

The waitresses are always friendly, attentive, and informative, and hearing them describe the daily specials always makes my mouth water. Even when there's a wait, it's absolutely worth it. The restaurant is very clean. I've met the owner twice as he tries to get around the diningroom before you leave to make sure your experience was a good one & personally thank you. I feel that in itself makes a big difference in quality control & guaranteeing he is hearing his customers & perhaps can make changes before it becomes a business-changing problem. (Sometimes a few bad reviews spread like wildfire & changing rumors back to the truth can hurt the bottom line). There is a delightful waitress you'll be glad to have serve you if you are lucky enough to be seated at her table. "Grandma (name)?" is a very happy way to start your day. She knows the menu well & can make you smile on your worse days. The menu has plenty to choose from & the portions sizes..epic! Eggs Benedict is 3 egg size. Pancakes & French toast orders are enough for today & tomorrow without adding eggs or meat. But their prices are similar to other places lessor size plates. There is an ramp at the entrance for those with mobility issues. There are a couple of handicap spots too. I do not know if the restrooms are wheelchair friendly as I didn't check it out yet. Even on a packed Sunday morning, the kitchen was quick moving the food out.. the waitress was right on top of refills too. Definitely worth stopping in & giving it a try but bring your appetite. Eating like a bird, I think, is frowned upon.

The diner is more of an older 50's look. Very clean. Local's enjoy. I was greeted by a young lady dressed as a fairy I believe. I expressed that it was our first time eating there. The staff were so friendly. We were handed little Halloween treat bags while we were waiting for our order to be taken. The food was really good! Freshly made to order no skimping on my bacon order! We happen to notice freshly baked blueberry muffins that were huge! Next time. If you're in the Bristol area it's definitely a must stop. Pictures to follow.

The waitstaff are all super kind and friendly and are a tight-night family that I think go way back in the community. Be ready to order, because seating is limited and there is usually a line of many regulars out the door on a sunny weekend morning. Cross your fingers for immediate seating if you show up between 9-10am! This is a classic diner with classic diner food--the diner food as seen on TV. Let's also not forget, you get what you pay for! In cash too, but don't worry--they have an ATM. Prices are pretty decent!! ~$20 all encompassing per person. I've seen some reviews complaining about the service. I find myself here quite often so I feel compelled to vouch for the Hope staff. They are genuine people who won't take your bs!! Be respectful and they'll take care of you. I can honestly say it is my top choice to bring people from out of town to experience, but I'm not a weekly regular. If you love classic diner food you should check it out at least once. I'm sure I'll be back soon!! RECR: - Definitely try their grilled bagels!

Until yesterday morning, the holder of that title was 3 Monkeys in Richmond, Virginia. That title changed hands at the bar at Jax Diner yesterday in Middletown, RI. The man running the food, I think his name is John (my apologies if memory fails me!), is a force, in both a physical and epicurean sense. He towers o er the grill with a presence and makes the best sausage gravy I have ever tasted, and that is saying something. I practically ignored everything else on that considerable plate of food because I didn't dare leave a scrap of the biscuit and gravy! It's that good. Title worthy good. It's made to order too - yup, you heard that right. When I sat down and told the server that this was my first time there, the local guy to my left chuckled and said, without looking up from his plate, "it won't be his last." When our eyes met, I saw the truth with no words exchanged, that I had found my way accidentally into the club of Jax believers, those who truly understood what makes it great there. And now I do too. Go find the secret - it's at Jax, a cool little humble diner doing great things. Enjoy!
