We love Al Mac's! I used to come here as a kid with my dad, and now I bring my kid on the weekends. It's a classic train car diner experience. Solid diner food, great service. It took us 3 visits to start getting recognized as regulars, which is such a nice feeling. Soon after, we started recognizing the other regulars, and all of the sudden it feels like our neighborhood community. Al Mac's Diner is a diner. A diner is not a gourmet place with nice furniture, nor is it a refined atmosphere. A diner is a simple place that is timeless. Al Mac's is simple and timeless... Nothing too interesting or trending on the menu. No pancakes decorated with clown faces or colored sprinkles. No low-fat keto crap either. No poke bowls, etc. Very basic stuff here. Moey's sammie was wicked greasy and yummy. My Chix and Waffs were OK but were Tenders (not bone-in) and had White Gravy. Waffs were very soft and well-made and were the star. The dish was quite teenie however and I could have easily eaten two orders. Let's just say, they have coffee and they have eggs n' things. It's food. The establishment is appropriately janky, i.e., beat up and old. Friendly enough service. Food is diner quality... Recommended if you want to dine in a diner... It's legit... We originally were looking for another restaurant but when the parking issue prevented that, out popped this diner. I've been in those glossy chrome and plastic diners in NJ. Gaudy. Al Mac's diner is a no frills throw back to the thirties and forties. What's outstanding is the food. We sat on leather green and white retro chairs at a black topped table. We were greeted with a smile by Cheyenne. I asked her to guess what we wanted from the dinner menu and she knew we wanted the meat loaf. Just wonderful. It's served with lumpy mashed potatoes, two large cuts of meat loaf and a bowl of brown gravy. This is basic food done right. The coffee was unlimited. I knew there was a secret ingredient in the food which I will now incorporate in my version. In a few weeks we're going for breakfast. We're looking forward to their versions of pancaked and French toast. Had I room after this meal, I would have had the bread pudding. It's a warm memory. This is a good place to go for well prepared food. Oh, the bathroom was clean but like the rest of this historic diner, it's basic. read more

The eggs were cooking perfectly and were very fresh. The yolks were almost a dark orange when I broke them. Some of the best over easy eggs I have had . The Portuguese sweetbread was huge and thick and tasted marvelous, would definitely come back just for this !!!! The only thing that I did not like was the home fries. Okay, so we were on our way home from Cape Cod, and we just happened to be driving through Fall River, looking for a place to eat. I saw this place at the end of the street on the right, and the sign read: AL MAC'S DINER, JUSTLY FAMOUS SINCE 1910. I was like, this place has been in business for 114 years?! That's impressive. Anyway, we pulled into the parking lot, and one of the signs in the window says DELICIOUS PANCAKES. Given the fact I hadn't had breakfast yet, the pancakes sounded pretty good. The wait staff is super nice, and I love how the diner has the feel of an old art deco train car. I even saw an old black and white photo on the wall, which just added to the vibe of the place. So now let's get to why I was there to begin with: THE FOOD. And also the drinks. I ordered a vanilla milkshake, which was nothing short of delicious. For breakfast, I opted for two buttermilk pancakes, thinking they'd be gone in short order. Well, when the pancakes are the size of my face, I did my best to wolf down as much as I could. The pancakes were so light and fluffy, served with butter and powdered sugar, and they tasted sooo darn good!! I did wind up waddling like a stuffed penguin back to the car, but it was sooo worth it. May 6th, 2024 was my first time here, and it will definitely not be my last. I stopped at Al Macs on my way home from work this morning because I was starving and was craving bacon and eggs. I sat at the breakfast counter right behind where the cook is. I'm watching this cook for about 10 minutes and realize she's touching food with no gloves on after using a dirty dish rag to wipe down part of the grill. I was so disgusted watching her spray the grill with spray grease but also spraying it on the food. I'm watching her literally throw the bag of bread onto the grill like with an attitude ...that doesn't even bother me. I could care less about that but the fact that she was touching/cleaning with the dirty dish rag and then proceeded with bare hands to cook my breakfast that was the icing on the cake never ever again.! I went here today super excited to try it. We went in and sat down. Right away they came and got our drink order. After bringing our drinks we waited 10 minutes for the waitress to come back to place are order. We then waited 30 minutes for our food. The food was nothing to write home about. The kitchen worked slow and the servers (females) only cared about taking care of the construction workers (males) at the counter. Also, the temperature was 64 degrees in there! My only regret is that l didn't take a picture of my Stuffed French Toast topped with Bananas, Strawberries, Blueberries, Walnuts and dollops of Whipped Cream. Wanted a good breakfast place to hit up with some co-workers after working an overnight. I've been looking for a place that has good home fries. Man how come it's so hard to make home fries?! Well Al Mac got it right. Their home fries were a home run. I'm sure that pun has never been used... Moving on. Honestly my whole breakfast was good but expensive. I paid $10 for two pancakes, 3 sausage links and a really small side of home fries. That's a $7 meal at best. And then I guess my OJ was over $2? I can get a bottle of Simply Orange for an extra buck. BUT! I don't mind supporting local businesses. However pricey and small portioned I may think this breakfast was, all flavor was on point, which is the real reason why we eat out. I want simple, good tasting food. And it was. My one friend had an omelet and the other I don't quite remember. The consensus for all three were that the home fries were great. The only other downfall at the time that we went in was that their card machine was down by the time we had to pay. So remember that $10 meal I had? Well I didn't end up paying for it. I hate that though, I much rather pay for myself. Went in as a 'Secrete Shopper'. I called early in the morning and just asked a bunch of question. Shiann was so friendly while answering them. I ordered lunch in the early morning working off the breakfast menu with a ton of substitutions to make it a lunch. Steak and baked beans, salad w/ a side of hollandaise sauce. Took my granddaughter for breakfast this morning. She wanted a pancake, so she was getting a pancake. The waitress offered goodies in the pancakes; chocolate chips. The little's eye's grew big and asked, "can I have chocolate chips AND whipped cream?!" Of course, she was told. I don't remember the name of what I ordered, but it was 3 eggs over easy, home fries, a Chourice link and toasted sweet bread. This is the third time I've eaten there and every time I try and make a point to next time just order the toasted sweet bread. But seriously...Breakfast was perfect. reasonable time to take our order, reasonable time to get our food, and it was perfect. The waitress was even quick to offer a page from a coloring book and crayons. My little was made to feel special. I love diners. This one is one of the reasons why. Disappointing. Home fries were so bland and soft it was like eating plain mashed potatoes. Our waitress dropped first the cutlery on the floor - no big deal, she immediately apologized and got a new clean set - and then also spilled the fruit cup I ordered that allowed some fruit to spill out onto the table, and never offered to replace it or bring a new one. Thats just poor service. The eggs Benedict was good, and the omelet ordered with extra cheese did not have extra cheese, it was very bland and the side toast was burned black. Where to begin. Ok, so it's 8am, we arrive at the diner and proceed to walk in where we are greeted by the entire waitstaff. Wonderful one might think, but no. All that means is we interrupted their conversation as they we all just sitting together shooting the breeze. The place had one person at the counter and a table of two that was just leaving. That's it, one customer and us. We where given menus and the usual chit chat. My menu had a big coffee stain in the center, but that's ok, after all they were busy conversing when we arrived, remember. Let's hit on the ambiance for a second.... Think truck stop diner, but dirtier. I'm talking floors, tables, chairs with stains on them. Fine for a truck stop, but for a family establishment? Now food. Simple order of 1 pancake, side of beans and sausage, and for me a ham and egg sandwich on a grilled bolo. When my wife went for the syrup the squirt bottle was sticky and syrup was connected from the bottom of the container to the table, gross. And now for my breakfast. Egg sandwich was good but very tiny for 8 bucks and it came with the most unappealing home fries I've seen in a looooong time. Beside being covered in paprika I detest cold tasteless home fries, I'm not talking about not hot here, I mean refrigerator cold. Yuk! One more thing to add. If your running a diner why is the nice, useful griddle behind the counter not being used? I mean it was dark and off. Now if your thinking, maybe they can't get the help they need. Well as the owner or manager then their butt should be the one there. Diners are all about the short order cook, it's part of the whole experience! I'm not trying to be picky, outside of the COLD home fries the rest of the meal was eatable, just not up to par, in my humble opinion. My husband and I have been going here on Sundays for breakfast for the last few weeks now, it was our first time eating here since the new owners took over. The food is always very consistent, service is always pretty good, a few minor mistakes on our bill here and there but it always gets resolved so it's not a big deal, just make sure you pay attention! The ladies there absolutely adore our son, and make us all feel right at home and welcome. When we go in it's always pretty busy, we've never had to wait for a table yet but some folks that come in after us do sometimes. Nothing crazy though, but it definitely stays steady as far as patrons. The first time we went we each got "the battleship" breakfast sandwich and split the strawberry stuffed French toast, the sandwich was HUGE and extremely filling. Definitely way too much food! So the next time we ordered the granite city which is 3 eggs, choice of meat home fries and choice of pancakes French toast or grilled sweetbread, and we split that and give our son the French toast and order stuffed French toast to split with lots of strawberries for the boy!!! We went there for breakfast because we were in the area. My seat and the table hadn't been wiped down very well. The waitress came over quickly and we got our coffees right away. I asked for milk with mine and when she brought it over, there were brown flecks floating in it. Used the pre-packages creamer instead. We ordered and waited 25 minutes for the food and the place was DEAD! We were ready to just go pay for our coffee and leave when the waitress finally came over with the food. I think the waitress must have forgotten to put the order in, because another table sat, ordered and got their food in 5 minutes. Or maybe it took so long to make sure my omelette was burnt. ‍ The staff was extremely unprofessional-very loud and talking about inappropriate topics. As we were leaving, a couple came in and was told they could sit anywhere they wanted, except that the back table hadn't been cleaned yet. Mind you, they've all been sitting around the cash register just continuing their conversation. $3 for coffee and $4 for a side meat. Omelette cost was very reasonable at $10. Not sure what the average price in the area is for 2 fried eggs, but there's were $5.80. Won't be back there again. read more

I'm an occasional visitor, and it is really hit or miss. I was flying solo, so sat at the counter to not take up a whole table, and ended up watching the cook on the grill. Bad move. Sausage and bacon were kinda sitting hap-hazardously on more than half the grill. Pancakes were getting ripped when trying to flip. My OCD wanted to go around and scrape the grill clean; tossing everything so that it could all be new. I specifically asked for crispy bacon in the hopes of getting fresh. Nope. I wasn't paying complete attention, but I saw my scrambled eggs come out from the back. Maybe they were cooked i the front, plated, go back to grab potatoes then back up front? I dont know... On one hand, your quick service and simple plates are a blessing, especially in the early morning, when well-intentioned kitchen adventures have the potential to rapidly devolve into an incident involving the fire department. We know that between your typical customer (i.e., me) and sheer volume, circumstance might dictate that your plates adopt this as the norm, but a sober diner expects a bit more than a cooked egg folded over watery innards. Call me picky, I dare you. Because the corned beef and hash tasted like it was dug up from the belly of a salt mine. It was undercooked and appeared to have pink bits of brain matter under its tough exterior. The Strawberry Milk should be renamed Milk with Pink Food Coloring. But your prices? They reflect the quality of your food. No complaints there. Your hours? In keeping with mine. It is sometimes best to summarize conflicting emotions in verse: Your bread is from Wal-Mart, And water comes from the tap. Your Corned Beef and Hash? Well it tastes like crap. The food was just blah to me. Nothing special, and nothing I enjoyed. I thought the hash browns were gross. I've gone to Al Mac's diner since I was a kid. However it's under new management now and I hadn't been in quite some time. In the last three weeks we've been there twice. And both times I have been less than impressed. The first time we went my food was cold when it came to the table, and I paid extra to have fresh strawberries put on my waffle. There were about five very thin slices of strawberries. Definitely not enough to justify the up charge. My fiancé was with me and he said his food was OK but could be a little bit warmer. Saturday we decided we wanted to get out of the house again and maybe the first time we went they were having an off day and wanted to give it a go again. Unfortunately, when we got there there were no tables left and we had to sit at the countertop. Not the most comfortable seating but we made do. However as we were sitting right in front of the cooktop I saw several things that would make me never go back. One the girl who was cooking was constantly touching her mask, and was over never her nose! Two, we watched her take a wad of uncooked bacon and arrange it on the grill top. Then, without changing her gloves she touched cooked food to plate it for a customer. In addition to these two things that we noticed, our food arrived in the same condition as our first visit-cold and hardly any strawberries for the up charge. The breakfast was reasonably priced but I'd rather pay a little bit more and get my food at a warm temperature from people who know how to wear a mask properly. read more

I went with all my kids and the service and food was great- perfect loving service so much in fact that this is written over a MONTH after and still fresh in my mind how good I was treated. I had my toddler being loud- happy loud yes BUT LOUD- he was hungry, a litter too hungry that even their fast service couldn't satisfy him and someone eating at the counter kept giving my kids and I dirty looks and saying things loud for me to hear about how I shouldn't bring my kids there- then my toddler grabbed my drink and spilled it ‍‍ the waitress came over as she cleaned it with me and told me how it's a family place and loves kids and they are so happy to see kids there. They checked on us after the food again and told me again how they love seeing big families here.( I have six kids) I really recommend this place and the pancakes and home fries are awesome. We went to Al Mac's last night for breakfast for dinner. It was our first trip there and we were very happy we went! The diner is adorable! The food was reasonably priced, and delicious. I had a chocolate chip cookie dough pancake! Did you read that?! A chocolate chip cookie dough pancake! We had some eggs and other things too. Very good! The hash browns were some of the best I've ever had too. We shared a strawberry milkshake that was carefully crafted---super tasty with lots of whipped cream, sprinkles and his and hers pink and blue straws! The service was absolutely horrible. After being there for almost an hour the waitress notified us that "there was a glitch in the system" and our food was never put in. when the food finally came after an hour and a half it was cold and all orders were completely screwed up. We went without drinks for an entire hour, when we asked for refills only some were given, and some where forgotten. then when the bills comes extra food was charged that we didn't order, after giving me someone else's food and getting the orders wrong. when this was addressed to the waitress she was rude. After the manager was called over all that was comped was the drinks, and we were forced to pay not only the wrong food, but cold food. i would never come here again. read more
