The food here is not delicious at all! The chicken schwarma was not good, the chicken was waaaaay over cooked and just not pleasing to the eye. It basically was a whole bunch of food plopped on a plate as if it were a soup kitchen. And, don't get me started on their beef kabob!! It was sooooo darn chewy!! I seriously couldn't swallow it. I had to make sure that I chewed the kabob down to the tiniest morsel , which seemed like an eternity, or else I was going to choke. It truly was a concern for me! I thought to myself, I may just croak here and have my last day of living at Al Amir with a piece of chewy, tougher than a $2 steak type of beef lodged in my throat!! It was that bad!! The kabob was soooo dry, it was not juicy at all. I can't believe an establishment can even sell a kabob like that. The only thing I think you should get here is the hummus, that was very good. Anyways, I gave this place 2 stars and not 1.... because I did have a lot of fun here. The only reason we keep coming here is because Richardson is a further drive... They do have good Humous wa Lahme the Humous with Meat that has been one of my favorite East Med foods ever since I used to room with Palestinians. Rooming with and having so many Palestinian friends, I learned about the food, and was able to pick up a good amount of Arabic as well! Needless to say I know Authenticity when I see and taste it and while the old Al Amir location had it this place has severely lost it. I have fond memories of people dancing Dabkeh a full room of Lebanese, Palestinians and other ME people all around enojying themselves from Grandfathers to Grand babies dancing the night away. This place only retains the name of that place, but it does not deserve it in the least. I have never been here and seen a crowd of people dancing which apparantly happens, but on Sunday to Latin Music.. It is that same kind of thing that killed the original Al Amir in the first place. Their Kunnafah here is always different, but is never quite good the first time it had too much atta, that is syrup which is the clear sign of a not fresh kunnagah that they soak in syrup to cover up the fact it is not fresh. The second time it was made with Semolina as opposed to filo doigh shreads and had barely any atta at all. Not consistent and not good. Only stand out again is the Humous wa Lahme. It is what it is,; and what is that?? Well It is a place built to convince others it offers an Authentic Middle Eastern vibe that many Americans, Indians and Africans seem to go for. In fact my server whom I chat with on each visit has told me that their busiest night is Sunday and that is a Latin night. The arghila that is the hookah is not bad but also this is not the bast thing. You can find better pricing and more authenticity for better hookah at other places for example Afrah or Sultan in Richardson. Go here if you are too far from Richardson stick to the meats, dont go for the sweets, and be prepared to pay more than you believe your meal was worth. read more

I absolutely love this place hookah, belly dancing, AND SALSA DANCING? WHAAAAAT? This place was made for me. The food at Al-amir is very good and I highly recommend the hummus here! The hookah is very good and a decent price on some weekdays i think $10 but normally it's $15. Friday and Sat they have belly dancing performances for free! They are extremely good! If you want to watch amazing belly dancing this is the place to go ^_~ . Cat Tip : Do go to Latin night on Sunday for the lesson at 10:15 ish ( they advertise at 10 but they've always started at 10:30 for me. Then wait and smoke some hookah till it gets busier around 11:30 ish :) I think the best salsa dancers come out to Al amir just to have fun and they look amazing doing it! read more

The main reason to go to Al-Amir Addison, in my mind, is to have a hookah with your dinner. Now that the smoking ban has been enacted in Dallas, as far as I know there is no more dinnery hookah-ey goodness to be had there. While I've never gotten sick from eating at this place, a couple of times the food just didn't taste very fresh. I've only been here for dinner, though; can't speak for the lunch buffet. The times I've had dinner here, even on weekends, the crowd is often quite sparse. So comfy and casual elegance, we were immediately pleased with our first impression. Dark woods, brass, mirrors, high tables in the bar area ...just wonderful....We were the only ones there at this early hour. Phillip, the bartender, was so attentive. One house Merlot, one draft Miller Light. Quickly served. And he was so friendly and excited about "His" restaurant. And the chatter started. He told us all about the history of the restaurant, the one on Greenville, and this location. Very talkative, informative, and excited about the possibliities of the restaurants. Live Band on Thursdays...playing music from the 80's to the present Mon-Thurs - $3.00 beer, $3.00 wine all day Thurs-Fri and Sundays - $$3.00 call its 230p-1100p (House wine is Oak Vineyards 2007 @ $3.00 - AWESOME !! Last Saturday I got few friends together for dinner at Al Amir for my Birthday. After reading reviews here I was tab bit concerned about the food... Well, the food was great! All members of the party enjoyed their meals except one. She had chicken dish and didn't like it. I personally enjoyed very much Lamb kebab. Other dishes we ordered were Garlic Salmon, Chicken and Beef kebab, shrimp dish - all were delicious. We arrived just after 19:00 and the restaurant was empty which was great - we were able to eat and talk and enjoy the company before the party started! :) I guess around 21:00 the music started, belly dancer was OK (I have seen better) and she came out around 22:00 or so. Well, the night was lovely and everyone had a fun great time. Crowd is diverse and enough space to dance for everyone. I wanted to specifically mention the artist that performed that Friday night. I haven't caught his name, but we saw his website on one his devices: http://www.theviolinguy.net/ he was brilliant! What a talented young man! I was very impressed and he entertained us most of the night with songs, music. He was singing, playing guitar, violin, keyboard - absolutely fantastic! Our waitress was great and attentive. By the way, I think there is an entry fee of $10 after 21:00. Children are allowed even after 21:00 as we saw few couples with kids. Great place for dancing without being stuck in the crowd where you can't move. Valet parking is available. Happy Hour on Friday until 20:00. Great for date night, quite nice out. I was looking for more when I came here.. The music was nice so was the belly dancers and violin guy. The thing that drove me nuts was the customer service, constantly had to ask for coal, water, napkins,... Our food was also taken away from our table when we weren't done because we got closer to see the performance which was annoying. I had lunch at this place with coworkers. Upon arrival, we were greeted by a friendly Russian server and quickly guided to our table. She then invited us to tour the buffet line. Well, since I was already hungry, I listened to her with a plate on my hand. :-) They have a griddle where they cook beef or chicken fresh to order. The buffet line has nice selection of middle eastern vegetable, salad, and meat. Some of the items that I liked were their golden fried chicken, seasoned rice, lemon soup, fried falafel (everybody's favorite), hummus, pita bread, okra, eggplant, and the sweet pudding. Right before we left, some of the people ordered coffee. Well, apparently they serve Turkish coffee, so I went ahead ordered one as well. This coffee really goes well with the sweet pudding. Nobody knows about happy hour? We arrived about 7:40 and were seated but nobody came to serve us. I eventually took matters into my own hands and approached the bar. The lady told me she didn't think there was happy hour on Saturdays. I told her there was. She told me to go to the other bar. I went. The guy and 2 servers told me happy hour was over. I pointed out that it wasn't 8. They checked imaginary clocks and then took my orders. Back at the table, the same sort of terrible service continued. It was 9:30 before I finally flagged someone down to take my food order. It was after 10:30 when I flagged someone down to bring me a box. It was almost 11 when I flagged someone down to bring my ticket so that I could pay. They didn't even come to clean our table as we emptied glasses or appetizer plates. We finally started piling dirty stuff onto nearby reserved tables (Okay, what would you do?!??) and before we could grab another armful and turn back around, the stuff was cleared. The invisible guests' table was more of a priority than ours. In a nutshell: The food was okay. The chicken was better than the garlic shrimp though shrimp costs $6 more. The grape leaves needed sauce for which they couldn't recommend anything good. The baklava was made with pistachios and it was just okay. The baklava ice cream cake lacked baklava. This review is strictly for the Latin Sunday nights hosted at this venue. I will rate this venue based on the following criteria. Dance Floor, Parking, DJ, Ambiance, and Location. 1. Dance Floor is Great. There is 3 large areas that serve as dance floors. One of them is hardwood floor and the other two are ceramic tile. Incredibly, all three dance floors here do great. Baby powder is popular here since dancers use it to improve floor dancing condition when necessary. 2. Parking is fantastic! Huge parking lot and the next door restaurant Los Lupes has never had problems allowing AlAmir's customers to park there. They even have driveway access and plenty of walkways to cross back to AlAmirs side when walking towards the front door. 3. Good DJ. Plays a good variety of music 4. The ambiance here is the best! My mother and I were on a hunt for reasonably priced lunch food when we stumbled up Al-Amir. $7.50 for Lebanese lunch buffet? Yes, please! We asked to check out the buffet before we sat down because we'd just been burned by Flavors up the road. The food was fresh, the buffet area was clean, and had lots of variety. The salad bar area has tabbouleh, hummus, traditional salad, something tzatziki-like, delicious Israeli pickles etc. The buffet includes a daily special which the chef thinks up each morning. When we went it was on-the-bone chicken simmered with tomatoes and onions. Also, there was kofta, meatballs, and a bunch of vegetarian dishes that I think were even better than the meat! They had eggplant that was amazing! I'm usually on the fence about eggplant but this was fantastic! Also, they have two kinds of soup - lentil and lemon soup. I was too full to try the lentil but the lemon soup had rice in it and a really good flavor. Dessert consisted for fresh fruit, delicous brownies, and some congealed rice that I didn't try... I'd never thought I'd say this but this place really rocked my socks off. If you're looking for something different from your typical local/dive bars or the typical dance clubs, Al-Amir can offer you that. The crowd is not like what you can find at Sherlocks, Blackfinn, or Duke's in Addison. Same goes for the Shops of Legacy in Plano and Uptown. The crowd was a good mix in age and ethnicity considering that it's a Lebanese restaurant and bar/dance club. It's actually a restaurant by day and a dance club/hookah lounge by night. The DJ there played an interesting mix of Middle Eastern and Latin pop, salsa, hip hop and a top 40 hits by Latin artists ( JLo, Marc Anthony, Pitbull, etc). Some of the Middle Eastern music they played made me want to belly dance a la Shakira style lol. I smoked some of the hookah and chose the Sex Panther as a flavor, which consisted of blueberry, peach, and other fruit flavors. As a non-smoker it was ok, but not something I want to very often. The drinks were reasonably priced - at least for the one I ordered. I only ordered the tall vanilla vodka coke for $7. However, there is $10 cover charge, that and I was expecting a belly dancer or two to dance around - these were my only complaints. Lol. I heard the food was awesome. My Experience: charges more to customers thinking they wouldn't see the itemized receipt. I visited Al Amir on 03/01/2018 after confirming happy hours prices as well as hookah price - which they told me is $10 per hookah ( Monday - Thursday ). Please note we were only 2 members Pro's : 1. food was good 2. Hookah was decent 3. Customer service was good. Con's :1. They charged $20 + tax on hookah on the bill, when we notified the server about the discrepancy she agrees and goes in to change. But comes back with the manager and says we will charge $20 today even after verbal confirmation on phone. 2. They added 24.05% mandatory tip on our receipt. I have been there many times, hosted events or joined friends' events. It is the place to go for people in North Dallas to dance and have fun. Not many places like this here and Alamir caters to all etnnic groups and ages. More on this later. First, the food: - It is not outstanding in general, but good. Little bit expensive, though. Everytime I go I find the food cold, maybe too many people per waiter ratio. Last night we waited a looong time for ours, a group of about 20 people. I had the Chicken shawarma. Nothing special about the taste but the garlic sauce (toum) is the best I have ever had. And potatoes were good too, spicy. Now, for the fun part: the belly dancers are generally amazing! The 10:30 show it is usually the best. Camilla, Alia and Layla are awesome dancers! Last night they had another entertainment too, some acrobats. Very fun but not my personal preference. The music is fantastic! The best of the world music. Kudos to the DJ! Just wish it had more of house, electronic beats. Sometimes it is just too much of Arab, Bollywood.. and because it caters to all ages, what about some good oldies dance pop? Cher, DJ tonka, all Buddha bar! And then I get to my complain. There is a bunch of guys you will spot right on. Or they are always there or I am the most unlucky person in the world and get there when they are too. All almost bald, some chubby, all with square pointed shoes, no butts ( lol I am Brazilian, of course I check it out). All drunk and dancing with each other, even with the most sexy belly dancer performing- Layla, in this case. But what one can do if in your culture just men dance together, right? It consists of guys holding hands, jumping and stomping their feet, a folkdance. When they are dancing you better stay away or you will get hurt! They will knock you out, seriously. read more

As I said in my Tasty Greek review, I'm not a big fan of buffets. I think I should revise that statement to say that I don't like buffets with lots of children touching the utensils and possibly the food. This a another review for a buffet that caters to an adult crowd. Al-Amir has a delightful lunch buffet offering many Lebanese favorites. It is not overly crowded and I appreciate the healthy options. If you are lunching with vegetarian friends, as I was today, there are many choices for them as well. It is a good deal at $7.50 per lunch. I need a nap from my gorge fest! I have been to Al-Amir for dinner as well. The lamb shish kabobs are outstanding. Very tender. So many places overcook the lamb so it is chewy. Al-Amir's was perfect. The Addison Al-Amir is located next to Los Lupes on Beltline. I cannot for the life of me understand how Los Lupes, a truly crap-tabulous restaurant, is always so crowded compared to Al-Amir. Experiment and try something new! We went on a Sat night around 11pm so it was pretty much a night club by that time. The music is loud, maybe a little too loud, but it's a club. There were lots of guys hovering around the dance floor (so ladies, beware of these dudes copping a feel when you walk by). They played Middle Eastern, Indian, Spanish, Techno music, very eclectic. I missed the belly dancing show but we did catch a women dancing on these 2 big rope ribbon things without falling which was pretty cool. The hookahs were nice, lots of people had them on their tables. There was also cigarette smoke in the place so when we left, my clothes and hair smelled like a club back in the day when you could smoke in them. Pee-eww. :( I saw a couple fights break out on the dance floor amongst 2 guys and the bouncers were quick to break it up and kick the guys out. I really liked the artwork on the walls, especially the one of a belly dancer's belly in a blue outfit and jewels. All in all, good times had by all in our group. read more

The girls and I went for GNO here--just the five of us. When we got there, I was instantly greeted by warm, friendly hostesses (pretty, too!). They were extremely accommodating and even checked on me several times while I was waiting for friends to arrive. After my friends arrived, we went and ordered a hookah and some drinks. The drinks were great, and again, our waiter was very sweet. The hookah was delicious, and I was pleasantly surprised by the smoothness of the tobacco, being that I am not a smoker. Now this is where it got weird, and why I am giving it a 3 star. When we finally sat at our table, our waiter was changed out to a waitress that was working that section. She was fairly non observant of us throughout the night. Several times we went unnoticed when we would ask for things, or just plain forgotten about. The food was good; I had the garlic chicken. In my opinion, the garlic chicken could have had A LOT more garlic. It was flavorful, but I thought it could have been better. The tabouli salad was OK, but again needed something to really bring out the taste. My favorite thing was the potatoes. They are spicy and yummy. The atmosphere was a lot of fun. It was fairly loud, but we could still hear our conversations. The belly dancing is fun, and that was an added bonus to being ignored--being entertained so as to forget the ignorance. Pretty good buffet for the price and variety on offer. We went there for a Tuesday afternoon and it was as empty as it could possibly be, except for a couple other tables that were occupied.. The place is well maintained and has a nice layout as such, with transparent sloping roofs that let in natural light and make for a pleasant setting.. There were two soups, lentil and lemon, and the lentil soup was just great for starters. The food itself had lots to choose from, from salads to crunchy falafels. Not to forget the potato cubes that is so typical of Mediterranean/Middle Eastern cuisine, an okra curry that tasted like heaven, a kind of vegetable wrap bathed in a spicy tomato sauce, and some really good chocolate cake for dessert. I certainly like myself more now (anti-masochist you say?) for having chosen to go out all the way here! read more

I'm a frequent visitor of their lunch buffet only which is what this review is going to be on. Al Amir is located at the corner of Beltline and Commercial Dr. in a stand-alone terracotta-colored building. Like most lunch places in Addison, the best times to beat the lunch crowd would be somewhere between 11:30 and noon. Their lunch buffet has gone through a few redesigns since we first discovered this place. Their latest iteration of their buffet offers two options: order off the menu and get the soup, salad, and dessert bar included, or just order the buffet. This can be a tough choice sometimes because they offer lunch items on their buffet line that aren't on the menu and vice versa. Some buffet items to try: the cabbage rolls, the falafel, and the meatballs. The last time I was there, I ordered the mixed grill kebabs which also included steamed veggies, rice, and assorted pickled items. The kebabs that came on the plate were chicken, beef, and kafta (I think that's what it was called--basically ground meat on a skewer). The kebabs were tender and well seasoned and the veggies had some kind of lemon-buttery sauce drizzled on top which was pretty tasty. I did get to have some of their hummus and flatbread as well as a cup of their lemon soup which over the last few months has transformed into more turmeric, less lemon soup (but is still a fave of mine). I did get a chance to browse their dessert bar, which to my disappointment, no longer had the rosewater-flavored custard I remember having the first few visits :( I would've given them 3 stars but I have to admit, the entrees and menu items were still pretty good. I recommend trying the Shrimp in butter sauce. OMG, it was yummy. This place turns into a club and has a small dance floor. The music was fun. Try to go on a night when the Violin Man is there. He is a great performer. They also have a belly dancer that will dance by your table. The atmosphere is awesome. This is a smoking place and when we left my clothing did not smell like smoke. I loved this place because people are really good, you get treatment like nowhere else. Very friendly environment, Very Spacious, Very Very good and very tasty food...I loved the food...I got seated in a hookah lounge and enjoyed the hookah. Food amazing Service horrible Party of five sat down at 8 pm and we didn't leave till after 10 pm. It took them almost 45 minutes to get us our food. Our waitress Redi was one of the slowest individuals I've ever seen, if it wasn't for the two other services in our area nothing would have ever happened. I love the belly dancing shows every now and then. The foods are pleasant. The atmosphere is excellent. It's very fun and entertaining. However, the service sucks!!! I made a reservation for my friend's birthday couple months back, it took them at least 1 hour to arrange the table, and another 2 hours or more to have the foods ready. I'm not talking about foods for 100 people, just 10. They claimed to have another party over there with over 100 people so that's why the foods are delayed. I looked over, I only saw like 20 people max on the other side. And another time, I went there with just 2 friends, still took them at least 2 hours to get my plates ready. I don't recommend ordering anything late at night when the place turns into a club, the food isn't as fresh and tastes like it has been sitting out for hours. However, I do recommend coming here during lunch or dinner. If you love hummus, you should try the hummus. Also, the meat pie is fantastic if you want to start off with an appetizer. Any of the kabobs are good and always ask for the white sauce. It goes with almost everything you order. I love mediterranean food, so this place is average. If you are in the mood to go out, this place is good to hang out with friends. I wanted a side of yogurt sauce to go with my meal and they charged me $6 for it. Our waitress was never around. She was not attentive. Nice place to chill with friends... They play all kinds of international party songs as well as middle eastern. For me it's the best Hookah lounge in Dallas metroplex. Tried other places as well but this one's mah favorite. If I can give zero star I would . Terrible service the waiters are rude I had feeling of being discriminated against . We asked for tea and it came to the table cold. Food took for ever and it was serviced cold and did not taste good. I would never ever visit this place again. read more

*PHYSICAL ASSAULT & CHEATERS* I went there with a buddy to have drinks and hookah. Hookah is average. Service is bad. Our server never came back to follow up. We had to ask other servers to change the coal and call for another round of drinks. Still nothing bad had happened. When we called for the check, they automatically applied 20% tip when, according to their own policy, gratuity is applied to a party of 5 or more. Felt cheated. Things got worse. When we were about to leave the place, couple of guys were waiting to be seated. They were standing outside the door. Seeing us leave, they tried to enter. Right then the usher/bouncer pounced on one of the guys and yelled at him for entering before he was called in. Not only that, he pushed and shoved him so hard that the poor lad banged against the door and was jolted out. The bouncer then went ahead to abuse the guy and asked him to never come back again. I was stunned to see such a treatment. No situation calls for physical assault. Poor guy was just trying to stand inside as it was 38* outside. Think 10 times before you go here!!!! read more
