So many people recommended this business but it did not meet my expectations. The food was okay. That bad but also not so great. The staff is super friendly and preformed excellent service. But a big issue they have is greasy floors... I almost slipped and broke my leg when I walked in from the oily floors. I had to tip top slowly to my table and when i left the business. Seems like they don't mop... This is a huge health code violation and an even bigger law suit for the future if they do not start cleaning. read more

I am visiting Ann Arbor for the summer, so first on my list of things to do is eat tons of great Lebanese food in Dearborn. I have so far tried the shawarma at Al-Ameer, Cedarland, and Hamido, and I have to say the results of my findings are surprising. The shawarma at Al-Ameer was extremely tough and lacked any complex flavor, while the shawarma was excellent and tender at both Cedarland and Hamido. Since Al-Ameer has such great reviews, I decided to give it a second chance, and on my second visit I ordered the stuffed lamb, a specialty of the restaurant. The baby lamb was not as tender as it should have been and the flavor didn't excite me at all. The lack of any clarity and consistency as to what is included with the meal also left me a bit unhappy. The first time I went they offered complimentary lentil soup and bread. The second time, no soup, no bread, and they charged for a fatoush salad which they originally told me was part of the meal. The service was fine, but I will not be returning here. I do plan to enjoy many more delightful meals at Cedarland. read more

Gotta agree with the Yelp consensus - everything here is so good. The hubs and I shared the combo platter (I think combo plate #1?) and it was filling for two people. It started with lentil soup, which is good and had a peppery kick. Then the piping fresh pita bread came out with the tahini and garlic sauces, along with some pickled radish and peppers. The plate came out soon after with hummus, skewers of ground lamb, beef, and chicken, and falafel and rice. The ground lamb was pretty juicy and flavorful, as was the chicken! Nothing was dry or bland. I also got the Vitality fresh juice of beet and carrots and celery and it was deeee-lish! Highly recommend it. Of course at this point I was painfully stuffed and fully satisfied:) I would like to try some desserts if I could fit it into my belly... Perhaps I shouldn't eat so much pita and garlic sauce (we killed it). read more

Al-Ameer - Shawarma Entree - Middle Eastern Near Me - Dearborn, Michigan

Judging from the number of Middle Eastern restaurants we passed by, Dearborn, MI might be the shawerma capital of America. Al-Ameer is one of the larger kabab/shawerma restaurants in town and it was packed with Middle Eastern families and burqa clad women (from Iran & Iraq) tucking in huge platters of shawerma and more. It looks like a casual diner with booths and tables. The menu includes fresh juices, appetizers, salads, sandwiches and entrees. A shawerma sandwich is only $3.30! A plate of pickles (turnips, cucumbers) was at the table before we ordered. They weren't as crunchy as I had hoped. When I asked for hot sauce, they gave me a bottle of Frank's Red Hot sauce. Hmm. * Lamb & beef shawerma ($13.95) comes with soup or salad, hummus, rice or fries. The lentil soup was a thin puree of lentils, carrots and chicken broth, delicious. The pita bread (mini rounds) was still warm. The pita was oddly sweet though otherwise well made, on the fluffy/thick side. The shawerma platter was huge, with excellent creamy hummus, a plain yogurt sauce, lettuce, and tons of thinly shaved, glorious shawerma. * Chicken livers with rice: I don't like chicken livers but I had a bite and these were deliciously tender with a thin, savory gravy Al Ameer was featured on an episode of No Reservations. read more

Our neighbors have relatives who live in Michigan and they told us to try this place while we were here. Since then, no trip to Michigan is complete without at least two meals at Al Ameer. After taking a tour at the Henry Ford Museum, we were excited to try the food at Al Ameer. We did not know what to order so we got the Al Ameer platter so we could try a little bit of everything and the arayes. Once we tried the food, we were in love. I haven't had a bad thing here. I absolutely love their hummus and I could eat it with/on anything. The chicken and lamb shawarma are flavorful and cut nicely. The chicken and the lamb stew are also favorites with the lamb being slightly superior. The juices are also incredible. The fruit cocktail juice was the favorite with it's tropical flavors. Overall, I can't say enough great things about this place. If I lived in the same state, I would eat here every week. Parking can sometimes be an issue, but even that can't stop me from eating here when I'm in Michigan. The food is part of the reason why I love visiting Michigan so much and I look forward to eating here every time I visit. read more

For the past 2.5 years, I've been a regular. Why? They are open late (1am on the weekends, love it). They give you the baked to order poofy pita bread. And I cannot get enough of those pickled turnip pink things they give you with the bread. I flipping love em. I love this place because not only are they opened late but also because they excel at take out orders of any scale. You can count on them to get your take out order right AND they package everything up nicely too. AND they will help you out to your car if you ordered a lot. AND they even pack up fresh pita bread AND pickled pink things and peppers. You will always have enough pita bread to go with your pile of delicious hummus when you get take out from them. In your take out order you'll even find utensils and napkins buried somewhere. This is always a pleasant surprise to find napkins after you just spilled a dollop of hummus on your lap from trying to snarf and drive. Want one of those delicious Lemon Crushes to go? You will be amazed when they hand a just been made icee to you in this fantastic awesome already sealed plastic container. How do they do that!? Favorites to order: - Chicken schwarma with hummus instead of French fries - Small (aka HUGE) fatoosh salad with chicken schwarma on top - fried kibbe - falafels - Family Dinner #1 and #2 (SO MUCH FOOD) - Lamb sausage kabobs - Lemon Crush (strawberry crush being painfully sweet) - the hummus and poofy pitas are something I want to live off of My family in Chicago now make requests before I leave to drive home -- they want their Al Ameer. Don't bother coming home without hummus, they say. I will miss this place so much. read more

Al-Ameer - They give you pickled awesome things in your carry out order! - Middle Eastern Near Me - Dearborn, Michigan

I am torn between a three and a four for here. It's good, it's sometimes very good. The service is generally friendly and very attentive. The food is more plentiful during dinner for sure. It's just that it is never the first place I think of when in Dearborn, It's not even the second. I have been in periodically through the years. They have great hours (open til 11 everyday) and to go is always packed up so well. Dine in has been fine, no real complaints. No real big wow memories though either. It is good but not great. Salad could use some punch, soup is watery, occasionally its a bit bland too. Shwarma is just off all the time to my tastebuds and their shish kafta is not my absolute fave (this being my standard middle eastern order). I have had some great dishes in here too though. I went recently and was happy. I ordered some sujuk, it was quite tasty with my garlicked up rice. My mom's lamb chops were cooked perfectly and were so tender (spendy but damn). We feasted on puffy delicious pita with garlic sauce and added some feta cheese to our salads which made them delightful. It made me wonder why it is I never swing by here. Then I remembered oh yeah, I need shish kafta. The other places so very nearby have such delicious shish kafta. It's a three and a half but you will really like it here as long as you don't need shish kafta or shwarma, branch out and try something new. If it were in Belleville it would be amazing but for Dearborn it's just good. read more

Al-Ameer is unassuming. Looks like a Rams Horn but the food is better, much better. The shawarma is great, the humid thick and creamy and the kafta is great. I ate here with a large group while on a road trip to Mackinac Island from Columbus, OH. The decor and vibe and food here is all wonderful. We split one of their enormous combos among 5 people, and we had a difficult time finishing the food even though we all wanted to if only our stomaches would let us. Their bread is top notch. We asked for a bag to take the leftover bread with us, and the waitress said she'll just get us more fresh bread from the back. What a sweetie :) read more

Al-Ameer - Family platter... - Middle Eastern Near Me - Dearborn, Michigan

The service was amazing. I absolutely love Mediterranean food but it was lacking for my taste

Al-Alameers is the by far the best restaurant in East Dearborn and Dearborn Heights. I had a couple friends over from out of town and they wanted to experience something that they never had. Middle-Eastern food was definitely the way to go, since it is Dearborn. They completely renovated the whole restaurant, which I wish they didn't because it had it was designed with Middle-Eastern art. The server said the reason they changed it, which by the way has a little bit of the Denny's feel was because of the lawsuits it encountered with the steps to the main dining room. What a shame because the wonderful food does not match the boring ambiance. Our server Abbas was outstanding, he made my friends feel welcomed into a territory that they have never experienced. And they left with a great feel of wonderful people and great food from that 2 hr of just having dinner there. We ordered the Alameers platter and a side which was more than enough for 4 people, with a touch of authentic fruit/veggie smoothies. They by far have the best garlic sauce in town. If you have friends that have never tried the food, come here because the choices that they have and the service from the host to the busser is exceptional. I know my friends will never forget this experience! Thanks again Abbas for the job well done! read more

I try really hard to be open to new tastes and flavors but this review is strictly for the vegetarian dishes. For Middle Eastern restaurants, my standard is a vegetarian plate with fattoush or tabbouleh. (Kinda like getting lasagana @ Italian joints.) To start, they give you pickled purple cabbage & banana peppers. Not sure if this is to cleanse the palate or condiments to be eaten with your meal. My Veggie plate had 4 of the best falafels I ever had that weren't overly fried or dense. Definitely could taste the ground fava beans and sesame seeds. The baba ghanouj was standard but the hummus too lemon-y. I'm not a fan of grape leaves as I find them too sour so I typically substitute with tabbouleh. On this occasion, this waiter said he couldn't substitute so he just brought me a whole side order of tabbouleh. SCORE! Oh, the tabbouleh was good as any MidEast restaurant is. Albeit lemon-y. They bring out unlimited pita bread which is great and all but these were only slightly warmed and turned into hockey pucks after a few minutes kinda like what happens when you microwave bread. Also, where's the toum/garlic spread/dip? I'm not a middle eastern food connoisseur and would gladly love eating w/ someone who could educate me (I can teach you a thing or two about Vietnamese and Chinese cuisine! Let's be friends!) but apparently this is only eaten with their meat dishes?!?! At Beirut Palace in R.O. (see review) that's listed as an appetizer. But then again is there a big difference between Lebanese vs. other types of Middle Eastern food? I thought Al-Ameer was Lebanese. **Scratching head** Anyways, we asked for the garlic dip and the waiter laughed his way to the kitchen and back as he brought us 2 plastic dressing containers with their white garlic dip. This was not toum friends. I wanted thick, whipped garlic with the consistancy of hummus not curdled ranch dressing. Eh, it was garlicy, but not toum. Dedicated Fiance wasn't feelin' the meat department either so he went with a Greek salad (I kicked him under the table. Greek? Really?) that was all basic lettuce and neatly placed clump of canned beets, green olives, 3 slices of cucumbers and 4 slices of tomatoes and a cup load of feta. Cobb salad of Greece if you will. Nothing special but that's his damn fault for ordering Greek at a MidEast restaurant. He enjoyed it anyways. We ordered the "Energizer" Raw juice which included Energizer Strawberry, rasberry, banana, milk, honey, and ice.16oz. ..$2.95. Eh, icy and watery and not well blended b/c the water separated to the top. We saw people come in and order the Al-Ameer Platter or Combo Platter: one shish kabob, tawook, kafta, falafel served with hommous and salad, fries or rice. We should've went that route but we just weren't in the mood for that much meat. Cleanliness at this location is so-so. They look like they recently upgraded their booths and tables but the downfall is walking to the bathroom. The slate flooring is incomplete and turns into the old flooring that old school McDonald's used to have w/ brown rectangular blocks. The bathrooms are gross too. I'm sure Al-Ameer West in Dearborn Heights is a lot nicer but we chose this location so we could grab dessert at Shatila's (see review) after. read more

No frills ( I mean none) middle eastern restaurant You do not come here for the ambiance, you come here for the food. They do meat and rice very well, I mean the majority of people eating here (including myself) are middle easterners, they must be doing something right. The shish tawook and the shish kabob were highlights along with the rice. Fetoush salad is hands down some of the best! We ordered one of those family platters that was HUGE no seriously unless you have five people plus or some seriously large appetite guests you will not be able to finish it! It comes out on a tray that was the size of the table. Please bring your inner fat kids along. Service really is hit or miss, I mean really truly it's been really bad where we have had to stop random employees to help us, or we had our server stop by so many times we were going to offer him a seat at our table. Price was definitely affordable. If you want fancy or a festive atmosphere and are more in a people watching mood, find another place. If you want a good meal that can put you into a potential food coma, welcome! read more

Al-Ameer - Family platter, let alone enough for two families not just one! That's a lot of meat.... - Middle Eastern Near Me - Dearborn, Michigan

On a recent road trip I insisted on a stop in Dearborn, Michigan, why Dearborn you ask? Well Dearborn has the highest Arab-American population in the United States per capita (40% of the population is Arab-American), being an Arab-Canadian myself I knew I had to stop by and check out the Middle Eastern cuisine in this Arab-centric town. Wanting to sample a little bit of everything on the menu we ordered the Al-Ameer platter (2 grape leaves, 2 fried kebbe, chicken shawarma, shish tawook, kafta, falafel, hummus, and salad). This platter was HUGE and quite honestly was a bit of a mixed bag. The shish tawook (chicken skewers) were the best of the bunch and reminded me of family BBQ's we used to have when I was a child. The tawook was charocoal grilled, perfectly seasoned and juicy. The kafta (minced beef kebab) was equally good. Another hit was the stuffed grape leaves, these were the best I have ever had at a restaurant but still not nearly as good as home made. While those were the standouts of the platter there were a few misses. The shawarma was pedestrian, slightly dry and not too flavourful. The fried kebbe was a bit greasy but still decent, same goes for the falafel. The tabule and hummus were pretty good, better than most restaurants but still far from the best. In addition we ordered the fried cauliflower and eggplant appetizer which came with fries, everything in this dish was greasy and IMO it could have used some tahini, this one was a miss. The little fresh pita served with our meal was delicious. In addition to food we also ordered a fresh juice, it was some sort of beet, carrot, and ginger concoction which tasted fresh and was very delicious. I would definitely recommend the juice here. The service was bare bones; our waitress was somewhat courteous but a bit cold even when I tried speaking Arabic with her. The restaurant itself is quite large and has a family restaurant vibe. Overall I enjoyed Al-Ameer, I would recommend you stick to the grilled meats as that seems to be their strong suit, you should definitely avoid fried items. If I am back in Dearborn I will probably try a different place, but if you are in the area this one seems to be worth a shot. read more

Al Ameer is quite a large restaurant but was eerily quiet when we arrived for dinner, the reception & service however was both super friendly & professional & we were sat at a table by the window & was able to watch the world go by on Warren Ave. Promptly some Free Pickled cabbage & peppers arrived followed by some warmed Pita bread. We ordered Lentil soup & for entrees Sujuk & Tabbouli salad The food all taste fresh, i felt that the Lentil soup was somewhat weak & Watery. The Sausage & Tomato dish (Sujuk) was served with rice & was pleasant. I have come to the conclusion that I'm just not a great fan of middle eastern food, nice enough just not memorable. However if i did like it i could see Why Al-Ameer is so highly rated, the food is well prepared & presented with extra little touches that are nice & the service is very good. read more

The BF has a serious love for Middle Eastern/Mediterranean food. I'm sure if it was socially acceptable, he'd eat shawarma everyday. Just kidding (but am I?!). We came in on a Saturday afternoon for a late lunch because we're both not capable of getting up early on the weekend. He had shawarma. I had a shish kebab sandwich and an order of labneh, cause I have no shame and will eat it straight up with bread. I also had a Mango smoothie, which was really, really good. Service was attentive and efficient. Our food came out quickly, which was really helpful cause we were super hungry! read more

The food here is delicious and is prepared with care and understanding. The shish kafta I ordered had a flame-charred exterior but it still was moist and tender inside. These characteristics meant that they weren't afraid to use a high-heat flame to quickly sear the surface and lock in the juices. The pickled root vegetables were refreshingly tasty. The crushed lentil soup was just fine. The hummus and fresh, warm bread were all very good as well. Try the carrot smoothie; the banana and honey make it sing sweetly. The service is the one thing that can be a negative here. You get the impression that the wait staff know you will come back again despite any slow/poor service. One more caution: the ramp to the non-smoking area (see pic) is about a 25º slope! I can't imagine someone in a walker/wheelchair making it up that thing! read more

Oh my goodness... I tried so many things here. I only had time for one meal in Dearborn which was a Must-Hit spot on my trip to Detroit. It came down to between three places and a couple tosses of a cold determined Al-Ameer to be the winner. And the winner it was! On the tour of the menu here is what was ordered for my friend and myself (yes, just two people...): 1) The Al-Ameer Specialty juice (consumed with a spoon) 2) Chicken Ghallaba 3) Al-Ameer Platter 4) Shish Kabob 5) Rice Almond Salad Along with fresh pita was delivered as an appetizer is a delicious pickled cabbage which is bright pink. Not sure if that was just for the Valentine's day weekend or not, but it was tasty. The service was wonderful from the moment we walked in. While our attendant and I miscommunicated something that was really on my fault and not hers. Shortly after we arrived a gigantic group of teenagers and a couple chaperones appeared and were seated next to us, but they behaved well and weren't overly rambunctious. The Al-Ameer Special juice arrived first. Sparkly red with large chunks of fruit clearly visible. About half the glass was fresh banana and the flavor was sweet but mild and not overpowering. A bit of savory added in by some raisins, pistachios and other nuts made this worth of a meal itself. Everything else arrived in short order. The Ghallaba, then the Kabobs, the Rice Almond Salad and finally the Al-Ameer Platter. The Chicken Ghallaba was freaking delicious. Similar in taste to a Jambalaya, but a bit soupier, the flavors melded very well and had both a spicy and savory component I don't recall getting in other mediterranean dishes. The Beef Kabobs were prepared almost perfectly. Served with a side of hummus seasoned with paprika. The meat was tender and still juicy. I often like my beef more medium-rare than medium but the flavor on these kabobs was wonderful! The Rice Almond Salad was wonderful. I'd already had enough side-salad to drown in because we ordered so many things... all I wanted from this dish was the rice made with almonds and vermicelli and a touch of cinnamon. SO good! As a side-note, the salad is light and oily but very very fresh and the seasoning was very simple. The flavors glide on the tongue as you eat it. The salad alone would have been a great light and simple meal. The Al-Ameer Platter was huge. We had it boxed before we could eat it, and since the temperatures that day were to get into the -20s (fahrenheit) with windchill the rest of the day, we just took it home to warm up later. The platter has 2 stuffed grape leaves, 2 Fried Kebbeh, 2 Chicken Shawarma, Chicken Tawook, Beef Kabob, 2 Falafel, Hummus and Beef Kafta. Clearly a meal for two on its own. While I have a tendency to explore... I very well might hit Al-Ameer again if I'm anywhere near the Detroit/Dearborn area. read more

The go to place for the best lebanese food. Hands down. Their service: MOST of the time they're great. It's on rare occasions that you'll get bad service. Gotta give it to them though, they're quick! The food: Yummo! You must try the kibbeh nayyeh (raw). Which consists of raw lamb, burgul and spices. I recommend eating it with their fresh pita, a drizzle of olive oil, and fresh onions. If you like garlic, try adding a bit of garlic dip. We usually order the family platter for two (feeds more than two in my opinion). Under $25 gets you a lot of food! The shawerma is outstanding. The skewered meats are juicy and tender. And you'll also get to try grape leaves, fried kibbeh and falafel (I think two pieces of each). Then there is the bread. You can just eat that and be happy! They also have a variety of fresh juices! The price is good. Just watch what you're ordering. But whatever. It's worth it! Parking sucks. I'd recommend not parking right at the entrance if they're busy! Unless you want your car to get dinged! read more

Everything was delicious, fresh, and authentic. Great price to portion ratio, especially with the platters to share. A must see!

We stopped here during our trip for lunch. It was highly recommended from a friend. And it was good, but I just think the expectations I have of falafel places in this area are just VERY high. I think the bread they were bringing out wasn't fresh, until I insisted on it. Even then, it had this black/burnt taste to it. Some people may like that, I guess. I know some pizza places have burnt crust as part of their thing... but yeah, it was just somehow not up to par compared to my fave. The falafel sandwiches themselves were fine. I'm glad I tried it. We're from out of town and wanted to eat at an Mediterranean restaurant. We landed on this due to reviews and location. Best idea ever! Our server was Mary, and she made the entire experience perfect. We ate a late lunch/early dinner (around 3) and she suggested we order the sampler platter, and also suggested that we 3 ladies share a combo plate, that the menu said would feed 2. We ate on that, brought a lot back to our hotel and ate on it again! I don't think we ever completely finished it! It was amazing, flavorful, and extraordinary. Our last two trips to Dearborn, we've stopped off here at Al-Ameer restaurant. All I have is good reviews doe this place. The food was excellent, especially the small variety of pastry. -1 star for the not so super perfect service and the crowded space. First time visiting the Mid-west and coming to Dearborn for some real Mid-eastern food was high on my list. Thought we won't make it due to the time restriction but so glad we were able to go. Hand down to the best kabbie (raw ground meat)! What we ordered: 1) kabbie (raw ground meat) with hashwi (stir fried ground lamb -$13.50 for the medium size) - so good!!! I tried the kabbie at another place the night before and this is like 10x better. The more you eat it, the taste and texture of the dish grow on you. 2) lamb chop (1 lb - $24): solid lamb chop, medium. Perfectly cooked. 3) hommous and meat ($11 for medium size): we got the beef. It was just ok. If I have another chance, I would order the shish Kafta. Overall, it was perfect for my birthday lunch!!!! I love it and love the person that took me here . read more
