I visited this restaurant often with my father until he left the Dearborn area a few years ago. It was our favorite place for Raw Kebbie (kibbeh nayeh). Having the opportunity to visit again I was very disappointed. The Raw Kebbie was prepared differently - there was no longer the "bite" from the cracked wheat. Instead of a firm texture the kebbie was bland, improperly spiced and had the consistency of mush. Instead of slices of raw green pepper, the kebbie was covered in large bits of jalapenos (?) alongside the traditional mint leaves, radishes and and onion. The waiter mentioned that the cook had changed and therefore the recipe. The pita bread was store bought - but at least fresh. The restaurant was clean as I always remembered it to be. read more

I highly recommend this restaurant. Everything is delicious. They brought out small, fresh pita bread and a plate of lifit (pickled turnip). The bread was satisfying because it was poofed. The lifit is reallllllly good. I haven't tasted any this good before. I ordered grilled boneless chicken with a garlic/lemon sauce on top and fatoush and hummus as sides. The fatoush was very very good and the hummus was good too, but I didnt die over it. The chicken was delicious. It tasted even better when I added more garlic. It was an insane amount of food for $30. Has it's own parking lot. I'd definitely come back read more

I throw out all the food and never go back there again. read more

I'll Ameer never disappoints with anything that I've ever ordered on the menu. My absolute favorite thing to get is the boneless chicken meal with the garlic sauce. The staff is always so friendly and even though they are always busy they service everyone with a smile on their face. I have never ordered a meal from this restaurant and I'm not been completely satisfied. They have awesome sandwiches, salads are great, entree meals are delicious. If I am dining in or picking up takeout, the food is phenomenal. read more

Great restaurant overall. This Lebanese Restaurant is one of the most popular staples in Dearborn. It's actually highly acclaimed and gained recognition by their James Beard award print. I came for dinner last night and it was fantastic. There were lots of people dining in so I'm glad I had a booth to myself! I started with lentil soup then moved on to my dinner entree, kashkash shish kafta which is ground chicken with their house special salsa on top. I loved their white rice as well because it was slightly nutty and almost had the texture of pilaf. One of my favorite parts were ripping the fresh puffy pita and just scooping the meat and rice. The food was just tasty and very addicting. For $16 this was a steal. If you're looking for a great quality Lebanese restaurant with excellent service and a vibrant crowd, come to Al-Ameer's! read more

Dearborn apparently has the highest Middle Eastern immigrant population in the US so my friend knew my visit to Detroit wouldn't be complete without coming to a guaranteed authentic Middle Eastern restaurant. Al-Ameer was just the right restaurant to do that! Our group of five decided to go family style and order a platter and that was definitely the way to go. The platter came with different types of shawarma and kebabs as well as with a side of fatoosh and tabouleh. Everything was super tasty and there was more than enough food to share among our group..but I would say that what really completed the meal was the hummus. It as soo creamy and rich and tasted so different to what I'm use to from the store and I just wanted to slather all my food in it. Service was really friendly here! If you make a trip, there's a parking lot with ample spots and plenty of room in the restaurant. Al-Ameer is a great place to get a taste of the Middle Eastern cuisine out in Michigan. read more

I always have great food here, never any issue in that department. The staff can seem a little slower at times even when the place is not that crowded. I've had breakfast, Msabaha, cheese pies, and Zaatar, all very good. Lunch/dinner, the best thing I have to say is the deboned chicken with the garlic white sauce it's cooked in. Hummus here is great and so is the shawrma chicken sandwich, which I usually order to go and is done super quick. The tabouli was not very impressive, I can tell they use citric acid rather than real lemon in it and it ruins the taste. Over all great place for breakfast/ lunch/ dinner, definitely will continue coming around and recommending them. read more

DANG! My go-to place for Lebanese cuisine. As being a Lebanese myself, I have high standards for Lebanese cuisine. Al-Ameer meets those standards. I like my Fried Kibbeh to be CRISPY. The kibbeh is crispy. The fries are awesome! FLAVAAAAH! Don't get me started on the shawarma. It's AMAZING! Whether I'm nibbling on some chicken wings, wolfing down some shawarma, or munching on Kibbeh, I leave with my stomach full with delicious food. 10 out of 10. read more

Never again ordering from here! I ordered enough for three people and the only good thing was the salad. Our whole food was burned and it even smelled burned that no one could really eat it. The chicken was also very dry and barely any sauce on it. I m very disappointed! It's my first time ordering from here and definitely my last and will not recommend this place to anyone unless people like their food to be overcooked and burned. read more

I was passing through Detroit and asked my friends where's the one place I need to eat and several suggested Al-Ameer so I decided to give it a go. Just outside of Detroit in Dearborn and not too far from the freeway sits this Al-Ameer. The moment you walk in, the aromas hit you and you realize you could be in for something special. Let's start from the top. Service: Top notch, very friendly, smiling, courteous and attentive. A+ Decor: Cute place, I loved the tiled floors, booths were standard, everything was clean. A Food: My gf and I did the Al-Ameer Platter (meant for 2). It included Grape Leaves, Fried Kebie, Chicken Shawarma, Tawook Kabob, Kafta Shawarma, Falafel and is served with hummus and salad. Let's start with the hummus...AMAZING. Seriously some of the best hummus I've ever had in the US. The salad was about what you'd expect, everything was fresh and the dressing was light, refreshing and had a great citrus flavor. I don't like grape leaves, so I have no comment. The fried kebie was solid although not my favorite dish. The chicken schawarma was surprisingly moist and not dry at all. The Kafta Shawarma was tasty albeit a little fatty for my tastes. The falafel was high quality and the Tawook Kabob was also pretty great. Finally I had the turkish coffee and let me tell you, it kept me wide awake the remaining 4 hours I had to drive. I'll be returning to Detroit and I'll most definitely return here. read more

Been going to Al-Ameer for years on and off, but the 2 most recent visits, with a year in between them show the restaurant is declining. Last visit, on a slow winter Tuesday night, was marked by terrible service and 1 of the 2 main dishes was terribly cooked with old and dry chicken. The other dish was very good (combo plate). After the poor service (slow to come to table for initial order, not bringing complimentary bread until requested, not bringing complimentary garlic sauce for the bread and zero water refills) several days after dinning here, I had fraudulent activity on my credit card. Coincidence? Maybe. read more

Super disappointed with my visit here tonight because Al-Ameer was one of my favorite Middle Eastern restaurants period. I used to come here often with my family, but it's been a couple of months since we've eaten here. In that time it seems like their menu changed and prices have increased a ton. We used to order a platter that cost 50ish bucks and now it's gone up to $85. You also used to be able to customize the platters a bit if you didn't like the standard offerings, but they no longer allow that. Our service was much slower than usual today, it was about 15 minutes before someone came over and took drink orders (which weren't brought out until the food came out.) We ended up ordering the lamb and rice, a platter for two and a couple of shawarma sandwiches. They used to bring bread to munch on while waiting for your order, but we didn't receive any until asking for it after the food came out. We ordered rice as a side to the platter for two, but it was forgotten and not brought out until halfway through the meal. I'm usually willing to overlook when stuff like this happens, but most disappointing of all was the quality of the food. Given the new pricing, I expected the quality to still be top-notch but the food was just ok. Not awful, but certainly not what it used to be. I'm sad to see one of my favorite restaurants slip like this; hopefully they can return to the quality of food and service that they were previously known for. read more

The best meal in life!!! We ordered the family platter with grape leaves and Tabouli on the side..Heaven!!!

Stuffed lamb was so good. How good?... 1) Good when I ate it hot and fresh at the restaurant. 2) Good when I ate it after an unrefrigerated ride from Detroit to Grand Rapids. 3) Good still when I ate it straight cold from the fridge when I stumbled drunk into the Airbnb kitchen after the wedding eating it in my skivvies abreast my in-laws having no fucks to give. I am coming back. read more

Generally a nice restaurant for middles eastern . We came back after a year and our food was the worst middle eastern food we have in Detroit. How much difference a year makes? Chicken undercooked, falafel cold, bread cold!!! Never going to come back to this place. Moreover, after telling the waiter about the chicken, they just came back in 2 minutes with some fresh pieces on top of the old undercooked ones. read more

On a weekend visit to Detroit (Dearborn) we chose Al-Ameer for a Middle Eastern lunch and boy are we glad we did. Our server was fantastic and the food was so good we decided to go back the next day and load up for the Holidays. We tried a number of staples and everything was the BEST we've ever had. Al-Ameer - Freshly baked bread - Middle Eastern Near Me - Dearborn, Michigan

Went here on several recommendations from friends and it did not disappoint! My husband ordered the Sfeeha (a Syrian meat pie) it was not on the menu and they were able to replicate it perfectly for him! 5 stars there. I had the fhool. It was delicious and reminded me of time I've spent in the Middle East. Next, we split the Al-Ameer platter for two. It came with fattoush, hommus, chicken and meat shawarma, Shish tawook, shish kebob, kaftka and delicious fresh pita bread and extremely fresh vegetables (onions, cucumbers, tomato and lemon wedges). Everything was delicious! The shish kebob's were medium rare and quality steak. My husband said his least favorite was the beef shawarma because the meat was chewy and fatty. Only reason we gave this establishment 4 stars instead of 5 was the hommus was a little tahini heavy for me and the garlic sauce was not quite balanced. Otherwise, everything was amazing, including quick and friendly service, and we would highly recommend! read more

Carry out order summary: Shawarma and tawook sandwiches heavy on pita and light on meat. Order was accurate except requested pickles omitted in tawook. Garlic sauce heavy on mayo. Oily, spicy Ghallaba had tiny shrimp. Light in portion size. Grilled vegetables were so-so. With stiff competition all around, they really need to raise their game to appeal to a discriminating palate and provide good value. read more

I went to Al-Ameer over winter break with my daughter and her hubby. The service was great. The portions were huge. The food was good. I don't know what I was expecting, but this didn't quite live up to my expectations for a James Beard Award winner. Don't get me wrong, it was solid, but I just wasn't blown away. read more

I was disappointed in the last two visits to Al-Ameer in Dearborn Heights. I am Lebanese so I feel I am allowed to critique the food. I ordered Chicken-Tawook; the pieces of chicken were about 1' square, and only two skewers. I have never seen kabobs that small! Service was not very good either. Waitress never refilled the break basket or water glasses. We were very disappointed. We usually go to their restaurant in East Dearborn which we have always been satisfied with. read more

Very bad experience. We went today on 25th december 2023. Guy who was at the front desk seems to be a mangager too came to our table and before we decide anything, he recomended to get a platter for $130. We said, we are still looking but he was keep insisting for this platter. We asked our kids and they wanted to order individual items. After reviewing the menu we order some other items. This guy did not seems to like it. told us food you ordered is not enough. We had late lunch and were not too hungry and did not want to waste the food too. Anyway that is our choice whatever we order , he should not be offended by not ordering his recommeded food. no one came to our table for half hour, no one broght bread, salad, water nothing... I complained to waitres about this behavior. As per her Manager instructed her not to bring this. Will never go there and will not recomend anyone. This restaurant do not deserve any customer. I have traveled all over the world and have been to many restaurants. Living in Michigan for last 28 year. Please don't go there. This is probably one of the worst meals I have had this year! We arrived at dinner time and the place was filling up with locals. Ordered the Lamb and Chicken shawarma plate. The dinner came with hot bread. As soon as I tried the chicken I knew something was wrong. It was so--- dry and inedible. I tried the Lamb shawarma and it was either a plate of grisle and fat or burnt. See attached photos. I waited for the waiter to stop at the table but he never came back. I stopped one of the table cleaners and asked him to send my waiter to the table. When he arrived I asked him, "Do you see how dry the chicken is? Do you see the plate of burnt lamb and fat?" I asked him if he would eat that? His reply?!? "No. Why would I?" I asked for the manager and he said he wouldn't be back for the night. He offered to take it off my bill but did not offer anything to replace it! When my bill came he charged me for the bread and dinner salad. WTH? I did call to try and speak with the manager later that night and again the next day. I left my name and number but DID NOT get a call. Not only does this place miss the mark with the food they get 1 star for wait staff and management. WILL NOT be back. Trust. read more

I ordered lamb stuffed rice. First thing, it is a lot. It is definitely for two people, especially the rice. The lamb is good, has its flavor. The rices is not my favorite saffron type one but it is one kind of thick rice with lots of water in it. All in all this is a neat food restaurant and worth trying once or twice. read more

As others have said before, the portions here are great - much like all the restaurants in the area. I had the stuffed lamb to go, and it was good. That being said, I don't think a restaurant would survive in Dearborn if they had bad stuffed lamb. I wish they offered yogurt with the stuffed lamb, though. I also had the moujadarra, and it remains imprinted in my memory. There's something magic in that dish. The pita was fresh and hot. read more

I had been looking forward to coming to Al-Ameer for a long time, and the legend did not disappoint. Shawarma was excellent, as were various grilled skewers, which had the right amount of smoky grill flavour. The kids went crazy for the stuffed lamb, which was perfectly tender and not at all gamey. The sleeper hit for me was the moujadara, a mixture of lentils and rice with onions on top. It sounds boring, but it was intensely savoury with incredibly depth of flavour. I have no idea how they do it, but it was good. For me, this was even better than the lamb, which is saying a lot. We got a corner booth which made it easy to have a bunch of kids at the table, plus they were very kid-friendly in general. Al-Ameer is the best Middle-Eastern food I've ever had. A must-try for sure. read more

I eat Middle Eastern food all over Metro Detroit and this place has three items (so far) that rank at the top of their respective categories. 1) "Stuffed Lamb" - it's the best meat dish in the area. There's nothing else like it. Tender and tasty in every bite. 2) Hummous - the smoothest 3) Falafel - perfection. Al Ameer is worthy of its accolades yet is somehow underrated on Yelp. read more

Our expectations were sky high considering that this place is a James beard winning, food network featured, and eater national 38 restaurant. However, everything fell short and I left feeling pretty disappointed. We were seated immediately but our waiter was hard to find. When he finally came, we ordered the renowned stuffed lamb and vegetarian ghallaba. The bread and food came out fast but the bread wasn't warm and the food was hella bland. We salted both dishes to make it more palatable. The lamb was tender but lacked flavor and any hint of spice. The vegetarian ghallaba ended up looking and tasting just like veggie stir fried rice and had no sauce. The worst part was the service for me though because we could not find our waiter to give us our check and he seemed busier talking to the kitchen staff. He also didn't check on us even once during the meal. Maybe the quality has declined like other reviews have indicated but this is definitely not the best middle eastern food I've had in Detroit. read more
