Feasted here with a bunch of incredible people and ate so many delicious items! Even though it's been a few months, thinking about the Al-Ameer dinner brings warm feelings to my stomach and heart! I loved the dolma, the variety of grilled meats shared (all were succulent, juicy and well seasoned). The hummus was sooo smooth and the Kebbie / raw beef was something I haven't tried before, but was thoroughly enjoyed! They also have freshly squeezed drinks and I had some juiced beets with celery -- very delicious! Service was graceful and excellent. What. A. Feast. Al-Ameer is a James Beard award winning middle eastern restaurant. I had some of my favorite dishes and tried some new ones - this was definitely a meal that I won't soon forget. Here's the grub I got to try: Hummus - This may have been the best hummus I've ever had. SO full of flavor and the complementing pita bread was so fresh and soft. Baba Ghanouge - This was DEFINITELY the best baba I have ever had. Before this meal, I always preferred hummus to baba... now, I'm not so sure. This was one of my favorite parts of the meal. Roasted Baby Potatoes - I enjoyed these way more than I thought I would. They were definitely a great pre-entre snack. Be prepared to eat too many of them. Vegetarian and meat-filled grape leaves - To be honest, I didn't care for the vegetarian grape leaves, bubt the meat filled ones were delightful. I think the contrast in temperature helped to make them more enjoyable. Kebbie with hashwi (raw meat topped with cooked ground meat and onions) - Wow. This was easily the most memorable part of the meal. I had no idea I would enjoy this so much. I don't care for tartare, so I thought that this would be the same. Without the cooked meat and onions on top it would have been a tougher sell for me, but I could have eaten a full plate of this by myself. Family Tray #1 (feeds 4-6 people; lamb and steak kabobs, chicken shawarma, falafel, French fries, rice and salad) - Honestly, by the time we got to this, I was already pretty full. I still nibbled around a bit and everything was great, but everything that came before it was more memorable for me. All in all, I would DEFINITELY recommend Al-Ameer. Food is B+. It's not warm enough or fresh enough for an A. The bread was fresh out of the oven though which is an A+. Service is C-. I ordered Alameer platter which comes with hummus and salad. When I gently reminded my waitress that my platter is missing Hummus, she said it's either salad OR hummus, not both. Either the menu is wrong or my waitress is. Service was slow and transactional. If ever in Dearborn, Al-Ameer is a must try for authentic middle eastern food. I've been to quite a few middle eastern restaurants, particularly in the Sterling Heights area and Al-Ameer remains my fave. Came often when I was in undergrad at UofM Dearborn, not so much now as it's kind of out of the way for me. My go to is the Shawarma with rice (beef and lamb seasoned deliciously with so much flavor), hummus, fattoush salad, falafel, and their pita and garlic sauce is the best compared to any other middle eastern restaurant! Inside looks very nice and was comfortable. Unfortunately, the food fell short of expectations. Ordered Tomato Kebbie which tasted like they didn't drain the tomatoes as it had a very watery consistency which made the flavor poor. The lemonade I ordered tasted very chemical and could not even finish it. The eggplant and cauliflower dish I ordered only had a few pieces of each and then a ton of fries. The eggplant was very good but for $14 I expected to receive more than 4 pieces. Love the sujuk. It is in a creamy, tomato garlic sauce and comes with fresh pita bread and pickled cabbage with the sujuk sausage. It is a slightly spicy sausage that by itself would resemble jerky. Everything combined with the sujuk sampler made it worth getting. read more

I ordered the stuffed lamb and the sausage sampler. The lamb was extremely dry and tough. It was honestly a workout just to get it down. Not a lot of flavor. The sausage sampler was okay, nothing too special. The complimentary salad was very good. I would come here just to get the salad if they sell it. The one waiter that was there was taking forever to take orders, I had wait a long time just so they pick up the check. Other guests were also getting angry. After living in Michigan for nearly four years, I have heard plenty of times that the best Middle Eastern food in the midwest can be found in Dearborn. I recently gave it a try with some friends who frequent the area. One of their favorite places for food was Al-Ameer; I can easily see why they like it so much. The food and service were phenomenal, and this place is easily one of the best I have ever had for Mediterranean food. Our part went with two orders of the Al-Ameer Platter and a large Boneless Chicken. This was plenty of food for our party of five. The portions were great and more generous than I expected. The shawarma was delicious, and I would say the Boneless Chicken is a must-try. In addition, I would also get a side of their fries as they were a perfect crisp. All around disappointing. I read reviews and determined this was the Mediterranean place I wanted to try in the area, but I'm convinced I picked the wrong place. The food was very average. My husband and I shared the platter for two. In the photos, it showed falafel and kibee with that platter and we did not get any. It was just meat, salad and hummus. Not even any rice! I thought the beef Shawarma was terrible. It had a very gamey taste. The chicken shawarma was probably my favorite meat on the platter but even it was nothing to write home about. Dined in on a Tuesday at 4:30. This was a good time to get service as when we were leaving it was getting crowded. As such, we had to wait quite some time for our check. We were seated promptly and served water. Waiter came quickly. I had small chicken schwarma fattoush salad, my dining partner had medium meat fattoush salad. Food came quickly with wonderful puffy bread and garlic dip. Food was very good but it should be served on a larger plate; as soon as I put a fork in the salad it spilled onto the table. If your scour the Internet for the top Middle Eastern restaurants in the Dearborn area this place is almost always in the top 5. That's saying something. Visit this place and you will understand why. Corner location that is easy to find. Plenty of parking around the building is well lit. Lots of seating. Inside is spacious, clean and uncluttered. Staff wears uniforms and are so polite and helpful. All these things are huge if your new to this ethnic dining or not. The menu has so many options. There's lots of typical platters like shawarma and hummus, sandwiches and combinations. We opted for the Al-Ameer Platter for 2. Chicken shawarma, meat shawarma, tawook kabob, and 2 kafta. Served with salad, hummus, and their UNBELIEVABLE bread. We upgraded our hummus to Beruit hummus with peppers and onions for something different. This place must go through a million to-go containers because everyone was walking out the door carrying one. The serving sizes were huge and no matter how much you stuff yourself, there's always something left to eat. The endless bread didn't help! No way I'm leaving anything behind! Our meal, with waters to drink, plus a generous tip and I rolled my fat belly out the door for $40. With so many middle eastern restaurants to visit, I try to mix things up. Would be nice to be able to judge the food. Went in and hostess said it would be 35 minutes and we could wait or wait in car and she would text us. Left our number and went to car. Waited 35 minutes without receiving a call so we went inside to check. Hostess said she tried to call us, but she had written one number down wrong. I asked if we could still eat and she said "the kitchen is closed." I even checked with person by kitchen and, although there were several workers back there, he told me kitchen was closed also. It says open until 11:00 pm on their page. I really feel like since we are Caucasian we were discriminated against since others were still eating. read more
