Visited Dearborn for the first time and ate at the big name places that people always talk about and Al Ameer was one of them. We came here for a late lunch and ordered a few things including stuffed lamb, kabobs, an appetizer combo, and a cheese maneesh. Portion sizes were huge but probably the norm for the region. We ate leftovers for breakfast for the next few days. Stuffed lamb was fantastic and Al-Ameer had our favorite babaganoush of the trip. The hummus was pretty good too. The maneesh was twice the size of a child's head, fresh and warm out of the oven. The grilled meats were ok, a little dry, but I would go back for the stuffed lamb alone. It was delicious. read more

The Chicken Shwarma sandwich was hands down the best I've ever had and the Hummus was thick and delicious. There was a garlic sauce that elevated the whole experience. From the shawarma to the shish tawook, the hummus and baba ganoush, the fattoush, the amazing pillowy pita bread, it's all good! The kebbie with the cooked beef? My favorite! 5 Stars for an incredible Lebanese feast worthy of its James Beard Award! I was in Detroit for a work trip, but we were totally down to make the trek to Dearborn for this special restaurant. The area is known for its Middle Eastern population and dining scene and Al-Ameer is definitely front and center. To be honest, someone else ordered and I am not quite sure what they got. I tasted it all and was blown away by the fresh ingredients and bold, deep flavors. The dishes that really stood out were the Baba Ghanouge (holy moly, I didn't know it could taste this good! A must-order for sure) as well as the Hummus (basic? Not this hummus! Order it and be taken on a journey. And never be able to buy pre-packaged Sabra "hummus" again.), and the Kebbie with hashwi (This is a dish of raw meat topped with cooked ground meat and onions. On a recent work trip to Detroit, my coworkers, Annette J and Brittany S planned a group dinner at Al-Ameer for us. When I saw we were heading to Dearborn from Detroit, my first thought was, why would we go so far when there are so many options downtown, but then I heard about Al-Ameer and I understood! While I grew up in the Detroit area, I never made it to Al Ameer back then. After having it now, I feel like I missed out on years of experiencing the real deal of authentic Mediterranean cuisine! This is one of only a couple of Middle Eastern restaurants that opened back in the eighties and still remains, which is definitely a testament to the food and overall experience! Our group started with family style appetizers including hummus, tabouleh, kibbeh, and babaghanoush. All of this was served with warm pita, which is of course, delicious! Some folks ordered some fresh juice as well. We then decided to continue family style and ordered a family platter to experience a variety of entrees including kebabs, shawarma, falafel, rice, french fries and more. Everything was super high quality as Al Ameer does not use MSG or other flavor enhancers. We kept eating although we were full, and still had plenty of leftovers. Serving sizes are quite large! A neighborhood known for amazing Lebanese food? A James Beard award on the wall?! A blazing brick-oven fire baking fresh pita at the entrance? It's the recipe for an incredible meal. We were instantly sat in this casual restaurant and immediately started ordering appetizers for the table. We started with hummus, baba ghanouge (like hummus except with eggplant) and AHH (chopped parsley with tomatoes and lemon juice). They came with bowls of fresh pita for dipping that looked like mini pillows. I piled all on my plate and honestly could've eaten this as my entire meal. It was THAT good. We also ordered roasted baby potatoes and both vegetarian and meat-filled grape leaves (meat were my favorite), as well as the raw kebbie with hashwi (raw meat topped with cooked ground meat and onions). Then, we couldn't decide on entrees, so we opted for the Family Tray #1 (feeds 4-6 people). It came with lamb and steak kabobs, chicken shawarma, falafel, French fries, rice and salad. There wasn't a single food item we ordered that I didn't like. And we tried a LOT. Oh and their juices?! Incredible. They had such a variety of fresh juices and smoothies that it was hard to choose. I went for the Vitality Juice, which was simply carrots, beets and celery. I almost ordered a second one. Their service was incredible, and they were constantly bringing out new dipping sauces for us to enjoy too (the garlic one is delicious). Al Ameer is our go to for Middle Eastern food. We eat here or get to go at least 1-2x a month. The portions are HUGE which allows for plenty of leftovers for a lunch the next day! We try to go here right when they open to enjoy the first pieces of Shawarma of the day. Everything is very well seasoned and tastes authentic. The team is and service are great. Decided to stop into Al-Ameer before heading out to DTW. Located in the heart of Dearborn, this place did NOT disappoint. Upon walking into the restaurant it's very warm and cozy. Although not decorated like other traditional Mediterranean restaurants the decor did not turn me away. We were greeted by a very friendly waitress who brought homemade pita bread to the table. I ordered the Kafta with brown rice, salad, and a side of hummus. Although, by the time the food came I was so hungry I forgot to take a picture of the kabobs. I have to say, really delicious! The hummus tastes exactly the way my grandmother used to make it. I asked for a side of turnips to dip into the hummus. Although they were out, they brought cabbage which was just as good. They taste just like homemade! Their chicken shawarma was also delicious and super cheap! I was shocked that is was $4 for a shwarma! Stopped by here for carry-out on the way to the Ford Drive-In on a Friday evening. It was poppin', no surprise as I'm told this is a really popular location. Portions seemed super generous. I got the almond rice salad and it was almost like a party platter -- no complaints here, easily made two meals. We also had a combo platter. The meat seemed well-seasoned but it was all over-cooked, so the texture was off. Their hummus was good and we enjoyed the generous side of samoon bread that came with the meal. Al-Ameer is the most delicious and authentic middle-eastern cuisine you will find in metro Detroit, in my opinion. Every single dish has just a little something extra that the others don't. Their falafel for example - like, have I ever really HAD falafel before? They're so perfectly crispy on the outside and moist and seasoned on the inside - it's hard to order it from anywhere else now. Their homemade bread, hummus, garlic sauce, shawarma, everything is amazing. Make sure you order the herb roasted potatoes! My husband is in love with Al-Ameer. It's his favorite Middle Eastern restaurant to date. I've joined him on two occasions. To me it's a 3.5 stars. It's good overall. But isn't the best to me. I'll start with his. He loved the tenderness and flavor of the lamb.y thoughts... it was juicy and tender but also fairly fatty. It was on a mound of rice that was ginormous. Literally enough rice to serve a large family. While he nearly finished the lamb, he barely made a dent in the rice. Continuing with rice... our mujadra. It was loaded with rice, intermixed with the lentils. Personally I'd prefer it not have the blended rice. The top of it was delicious as it was loaded with the onions. This dish was huge too. I wish it was half the size. Next up, the hummus - yum. This was creamy and delicious. The pita they served was thin and not near as fluffy as other places I enjoy. That part was a bummer. Lastly the salad. The dressing was flavorful and the salad crisp. I didn't like the chicken shawarma that they used as it was dry and stringy. But honestly it's impossible for me to love a shawarma as much as I do Bucharest. Same for the garlic sauce -- it's just too hard not to compare. This was a welcome discovery, I came here with some friends as one them recommended this place. The place looked nice and spacious and very nice atmosphere, clean and inviting as the smell of the food invited you in. As we were waiting for the hostess/waitress to seat us, a masked customer was leaving after picking up an order. She looked at my friend as if he had the plague and asked him to move so she could get by. As she went past us, the hostess said, "That was rude, she shouldn't have said that. Why did she say that?" and to make up for that rude customer, the hostess/waitress was very kind and accommodating to us. The food here is pretty spot on for high quality Mediterranean food, I got to try the spicy potatoes, moujadara and fried cauliflower and egg plant. After getting off a plane, we stopped by Al-Ameer on the way to downtown Detroit. The timing put us there at about the same time as people were breaking their fast for Ramadan, so the restaurant was quite busy. Despite this, we were able to be seated promptly, and our server was both friendly and efficient. The food, as might be expected from their reputation - was tasty and plentiful. For me, the highlight was a simple plate of roasted baby potatoes. I can't recall the last time that the smell of something being delivered to the table made me so happy, and so eager to dig in. Staff is friendly, the restaurant is clean, and its never too loud at least when I eat here. The menu can be large and intimidating, but it has everything you want and much more. I especially adore their lamb chops and fried potato balls. There are both healthy options and obviously more luxurious ones, so your choices are far from limited. Al-Ameer serves delicious pita baked fresh all day, wonderful hummus and baba ghannouj (I thought I didn't like baba ghannouj until I tried theirs), and scrumptious meats. We often get the vegetarian platter and the house special platter - I think each are supposed to serve one but we often have leftovers if two of us order these two items. I had hummus, a salad, and beef kebobs cooked to medium rare perfection. The chicken stew is flavorful and loaded with goodies. The hummus is a nice blob of perfection. Don't neglect to put some olive oil and pepper on it. This place is very popular with families, and there are lots of tables with 6 or 7 people at them. Service is accommodating and friendly. We occasionally make the 3 hour drive to Dearborn mainly to get our fix of Middle Eastern food. This time we tried Al Ameer. We got our first disappointment 2 minutes into our visit when we were told they dont have Schwarma platters or sandwiches which is a staple for us. Nevertheless we chose other dishes but unfortunately besides the Falafel none of the other items were great. Kabobs were bland, breads were cold by the time they got to us. Lamb chops would have been great but charred a bit too much. Our poor server seemed to be the only one doing the running around while there were atleast 2 who seemed to enjoy seeing him running around. I think one was only seating people not even bringing water. When we asked for some napkins he said our waiter is busy. All in all- definitely not going back and not anywhere close to the 4 stars i see on yelp. read more
