My wife, her son and I went to Akashi for her birthday dinner. We are very experienced Sushi eaters. I'd have to say that the red flag went up when the green tea came in tea bags. If you are portraying a Japanese restaurant, at least use macha/green tea power and not bags. Secondly, the sushi rice was cold as in refrigerator cold as opposed to room temperature as it is supposed to be. They were out of otoro and king salmon which were reasons we visited. They also carry unagi but not anago which we prefer. Also, this place does not even make tamago which is a Japanese staple. We ordered two of the speciality rolls and I have to say that they were just so-so. The salmon and maguro and even the white tuna (escolar) lacked taste associated with a higher graded sushi fish. The real disappointment was that the pieces of fish were not cut uniformly and the sushi chefs were all very young and had apparently not been properly apprenticed. Bottom line: Nice decor but very modest food. Our bill was $103 and we have had much better at Sushi Coast, Tokyo Bowl, and Masa Sushi for around $70 for the same selections. read more

Delicious. Immediately upon entering the ambiance was impressive and decor beautiful. Started with the spicy edamame which turned out to be a delightful fusion of szechuan from China and traditional Japanese edamame. Perfect! We visited here twice in December 2018, once for lunch and once at dinner (takeout). The lunch visit was midday on a Monday and the restaurant was mostly empty. The staff was very polite, server was great, food was great and very well priced. Really couldn't have been more pleased. The dinner visit was on a Friday night and it was typical Friday crowded. Sat at the bar to order and had a drink while we waited for takeout. Again, very friendly and polite staff and outstanding service. Didn't take long for the food and it's very reasonably priced. The drink was excellent and about averaged priced for a cocktail. Happy to have this place in Clear Lake City. read more

I have been to many of the Akashi restaurants around Houston so I was incredibly excited when one opened close to me. I went in on a Sunday and ordered take out and waited for over 30 minutes for my food. The manager was apologetic and asked me to give them another chance so I did. This time I ordered and paid, then waited over 40 minutes. I had to ask about my order then they tried to get me to pay for the order again. When I told her I already paid she said "we checked the computer it said you didn't" I then have her the receipt I had. The food is amazing, but it's not worth the hassle. read more

Tonight (10/26) our family dined in at Akashi for the first time and had a horrible experience. We previously ordered takeout from this location and had what we felt was a good experience. We are taking the time to write this review in hopes that our neighbors' time is not wasted in the future, and so that the restaurant takes our comments to heart in order improve. The type of service that we received tonight was simply unacceptable, and this restaurant will NOT last in Clear Lake if serious changes are not made quickly (i.e. see how long Mama Fu's lasted in the same shopping center - less than 12 months). Date: Friday 10/26/2018 Time: Arrived at 5:45 PM, seated immediately Received food and departed (ended up getting our food to go because of the wait): 6:55 PM Summary (see Akashi Facebook page for my full review): -Not child friendly, no children's options/menu. -Rude, poorly trained, uninformed wait staff. Disinterested manager. -Poor table service (order timing, understanding of limited "children's" options, lack of drink refills). -Waitress did not enter our entire order which added an additional 15+ minute wait to our experience. -Took more than 40 minutes to receive our food, multiple tables around us that arrived after us received their dishes before us. -Manager seemed disinterested in fixing any issues or resolving our bad experience with a reasonable reduced bill. We were so frustrated when we were finally able to leave with what had become our "to go" order, that we informed all of the waiting families - including the family that drove up and asked us outside - that they should without a doubt not continue to wait for a table and find somewhere else to eat their dinner. We wanted to ensure that no one else had such a bad experience as we did - and all 3 families did leave, which was about the only glimmer of satisfaction we got from the entire experience. Without a doubt, we will not be returning to this location. There are many other exceptional Asian restaurants in our area that have earned our trust and respect over the years, and those are where we will take our business. read more

I was working in clear lake and craving for some sushi, with Akashi being closest to me. I can't use it as a comparison to some of the sushi places in Houston, like Kata, MF, Shun. However, for being on outskirt of town, it was a decent meal. Fresh fish, good service. read more

We live near this new restaurant and having be looking forward to having it open up. We were not disappointed in our wait! My husband had the New York Style Tuna Tataki which he describes as impeccable and delicious, he also had the chicken tempura which was very tasty as well. I myself started with some edamame and a sushi roll, both of which were done perfectly. The menu is very fairly priced and the service is friendly without being over bearing. The hot sake was what you would expect and perfect for a dinner drink. We grabbed a take out menu on the way out so that we can order out some time in the future and we will definitely be returning here in the future. read more

We visited for lunch after receiving a menu in the mail and it is in an area without much competition. I had a sweet and sour pork off the lunch menu with white rice. It came with salad and an egg roll. The meal was adequate but nothing spectacular. The wife's meal of a Bento box of teriyaki chicken, it came with some California roll. She enjoyed the meal but again nothing to differentiate it from others. The service was good although we saw some slack managers ,well decorated and a clean appearance. Maybe it was the meal chosen but I would classify it as visit again if we were others that want to try it. Or give it a little time to see if is around for several more months. read more

We went today as their first opening day. The grand opening is going to be on the weekend as I understood from the waiter. They have lunch menu consists of 2 rolls with salad and miso salad for $10:99. The food were super delicious. The waiter was so friendly and professional. The decorations are very nice. If you're first question to the waiter is what kind of sushi do you have that's cooked, you're in the right place. If you like obnoxiously American fried sushi rolls covered in sickly sweet sauce u will love this place. Anyone who has ever had decent sushi shouldn't waste their time. I am not exaggerating, there is a full page and a half of specialty rolls and every single one has the same eel sauce on it. Its unfortunate too, it's a great location and very nice on the inside. So we went here after leaving komeya with a very bad customer service incident, read my review. We went inside akashi and what a surprise. Very clean casual and fun atmosphere. Greeted quickly by a wonderful host. Sat down and immediately got a very attentive waitress. Drinks were served fast and order was taken promptly but without rush. We had the spring rolls which were delicious. This is where I dropped a star. One of the spring rolls had a cold spot in it, once I told the waitress she immediately apologized and took it back, bringing me another full order. The food came and it was delicious. Big Texas portions. The presentation of the plate was very appealing. The food was very good. The prices were reasonable. The food was ok at best, it would have been a lot better if I wasn't waiting for 2 and a half hours for my entree. I understand times are tough and staffing a restaurant it's difficult, but 2 and a half hours is ridiculous. The server I had was Bobb, and I don't know if he was having a bad day or what, but he was the biggest smart@$$ I've ever met. Every question we asked at our table was met with a facetious response. He rarely came by to check our drinks, so not only did we not have food on the table, half the time we couldn't even get our water refilled. At the end of this horrendous experience, I had to bring our checks to the bartender and ask for assistance closing out our bill because Bobb never came back to pick it up. A total of 3 hours of my life was wasted on sub par sushi and rude service. I hope this place gets there act together because there prices do not reflect the experience they provide. read more

5 stars for service, 2 stars for food. I averaged it for my rating. The food just wasn't very good. Unfortunately, in an area that offers a lot of similar options, you have to really stand out. This place just didn't deliver with their food. I had a very weird tasting spicy tuna roll. I couldn't quite tell if it was the quality of the fish or the way they tried to spice it. Either way, it tasted off and I wasn't able to finish it. It also gave me heart burn, which I also found strange. Probably won't be trying them again. read more
