Never would I recommend this business to anyone! After Garrin came out for measurements, he hasnt returned our call for 17 days! When I called to check on the status of the measurements, I was referred to Zack, then to Ritchie.... Still no call back. So I've enlisted another company, who is way more caring and reliable! 2/12 - Akamai installed a glass window. Via email, I notified them that the installed window had what looked like a scratch. 2/13 - I called Akamai & Zach acknowledged receiving my email w/pictures of the damaged window & would have Charijean call me the next day. 2/14 - no returned call. No response to my email 2/18 - I called Akamai, again. Per Zach, Charijean told him to handle my situation. So, he was going to see when they could send someone out to check out the damage (whether it was a scratch or crack). 3/15 - over a month has gone by and still with a damaged window, still no response to my email, still no returned call, & nothing scheduled, yet! I feel that Akamai is now giving me the run around!! At this point, i have no more patience & understanding!!! Needed a custom made glass for a dresser. Called Akamai Glass & Supplies Co. Spoke with Richie who was able to give me a quote, which was $158.00. I was told my order would be ready in a week. Received a call 1 week from my initial call stating product was ready to be picked up. Their shop is located in Mapunapuna. Parking is tight. So make sure you park directly in front of their business to make it easier to load your item into your vehicle. Staff was friendly and loaded my custom made glass into my vehicle. The measuring guy came at the scheduled time and was quick. The scheduler guy told me they would come after 11:00am and said they would call me after their earlier job so I could meet them at home. My balcony glass door shattered in the middle of the day. No one was outside or touching the door. It was a weird experience. Building management recommended me a glass company but the estimate came out to $6000+. One piece of glass for $6000+ is ridiculous. I called my insurance company and asked them for a recommendation. They told me to call Akamai Glass company. I called them and they were available to come check out the door as soon as possible. They provided the estimate a day or two later via email after checking the glass. And by the following month they installed the glass door. Their service is very fast. The price was still expensive for me personally but it was half the price of the initial glass company I was introduced to. Service was excellent and the glass installation went smooth. I had Akamai Glass Company install a 4 ft sliding glass door and large mirror in my condominium. $2000 just for the glass door. Recently a slat that fits between the stationary glass door and the sliding glass door fell out. First response was that they have no record of this transaction. I then sent a photo of the receipt and the picture of the piece that fell out. Response "We no longer sell this product so best to find another glass shop." No referral, I felt abandoned. I then asked if someone could help point me in the right direction if I brought the piece to their shop. I would have given them at least 3 to 4 stars if I didn't get this reply. Charijean in her own words said "Please find someone else to work with. You can name me as the owner and our conversation. You think its not rocket science yet you ask for help." Pretty sarcastic if you ask me. I was totally surprised! Best take your business elsewhere and save yourself some grief. I wish that Yelp had a negative star rating. :( read more

We had Akamai glass install two exterior fixed windows and they did it with just top and bottom u type metal framing. I thought that was odd as one tall glass is next to the shower. They said that's how they do it but my contractor said they should have framed on all four sides. Now I'm stuck with this install. When I messaged them for an estimate on Yelp they responded right away. I called them regarding my estimate and got my order in right away. They said 5-7 days for my table top but didn't get anything and needed to follow up with them after two weeks has passed. They said they were gonna follow up on my order and called me back on the status but didn't get a call for a week. When I finally got a call from them they said they were delivering it the next day. So to sum it up, orders may take up to 3 weeks even if they give an estimated time. The thing I liked about them is that they made my table and didn't let me pay until it got delivered! With so many ups and downs, it's tough to rate Akamai Glass - especially given the meaning of "akamai"; I really want to recommend them but am reluctant to do so unless you're really patient. The low cost comes with a challenging customer experience. I'll let the this complete pre-sales to post-sales story help you judge for yourself... Pre-sales / Sales Experience ====================== When evaluating three vendors for a custom shower enclosure, Akamai by far was the worst to deal with. After multiple calls and messages explicitly saying that I am trying to give money to someone, we eventually got an appointment set up, though I was ready to write them off then. Wayne Nitta and an assistant came out for a free on-site estimate and to make exact measurements. They were nice but couldn't tell me much about the products, simply deferring me to the manufacturer's website and leaving their catalog for me to peruse. It does seem odd that they could not tell me more about the main product line they sold. After some time though, they were able to get me an estimate. They were able to offer a customized frameless solution that was at a lower cost than that of two other vendors. Akamai said they would charge a deposit but in the end, did not - that seems to have been a mistake on their part rather than a generous gesture (as you'll see later). Installation Experience ================= The bumpy experience didn't stop there. Akamai said that it would take some time for the glass to be made on the mainland and shipped to Hawaii. That was fine but when the scheduled time came without a phone call, it felt like I had to chase Akamai for an ETA. The phone calls didn't inspire any confidence in terms of feeling like they knew where it was. But a couple of weeks later things eventually settled on an actual installation date. The installation itself was good - the guys came in professionally and got things installed just fine and we're happy with the finished product. Except for some rubber-scratching noise that can't be removed, the shower enclosure is as expected and surprisingly doesn't need any maintenance. Post-Installation Experience ===================== A few months later, I get a call saying that they need to charge me the full amount for the shower. They were wrapping up their year-end financials and somehow did not charge me for the product and service. I contested this and asked if I had not already paid for the deposit, but they they I had not. I did double-check and sure enough they had not and so paid for it all later. One might think that this would be a good thing, but as someone that runs a business, this is indicative of very poor business practices. Regardless, we got it settled in short order. A little while ago, the shower door would no longer roll, and instead just scrape along the shower edge floor. A service call was made and after the scheduler called me 4 (yes, four) consecutive times while I was in a work meeting, we eventually made an appointment. (Not sure why the company rep does not know how to leave a voicemail.) After taking time off work to accommodate their request of waiting until they were able to get staff in town, the help didn't arrive at our agreed-upon time. A call back to the scheduler revealed that despite what he promised, his workers could not come into town but had to go to their office in Salt Lake first instead. He was trying to get them out to town as soon as he reasonably could. Eventually they arrive, apologized, left their shoes outside and fixed the door; however, it was just another experience that showed how Akamai is not really well run at all. Summary ======= It's a family business (or a business with family) and while each individual you interact with may be nice and may try; my experience has shown me that time and time again with Akamai, you will suffer poor customer service. On the bright side, in my case, the price for what we were looking for helped compensate for the difference, but looking back on it, I can't help but wonder if paying $300 more with any of the other vendors would have saved a lot of (unpleasant) surprise, and anxiety. Horrible service. Ordered in December and the Measurer didn't come out until January. Then they didn't order for 3 weeks because our Contractor didn't give them the deposit (he had authorized the Credit Card on file). Then they didn't order for another 3 weeks because of COVID. Then they cancelled the install because one of the workers called in sick. They finally came out to install and the measurement was off by 4 inches. Today, March 09, I was waiting for their call to see how they were going to make it right, and was dealing with Zack. If you call and talk to him, he doesn't sound like he wants to be there. Uncomfortable silences waiting for him to answer. Finally started dealing with Sherry and she decided to cut her losses as the fix was eating into their profit margins on this job. Bottom line; Akamai glass will not make it right, even if the mistakes are on their part. This review obviously will not put them out of business, that's not my intent. They have plenty of business feom large contract jobs,"Up to 300 per day! (as per Sherry). My intent is to let you know, if you're a small homeowner, that Akamai Glass does not value your dollar, and will treat you as a thorn in their side. Finally went with Guru Glass. Aloha! Be Akamai! Because no one called me back yet, I called on Friday to follow up but no one answered the phone. Akamai Glass was recommended by Angie's List for repair of my jalousies. Several aluminum rivets had broken on the handles/levers. They recommended replacing the jalousie frame in one window and re-riveting the others. Quote 6 days later (I inquired by email after 3 days): "All for the sum of $2532.00, tax included". I have no idea how 4 rivets and one replacement strip jalousie hardware could be $2500. I have the glass, I just don't know how to rivet. read more

A punk kicked in my business' front glass door this Saturday morning to do a Smash-n-Grab at 5:30am. After the cops left and we cleaned up all the broken glass I called Akamai Glass because they had helped us replace our door glass back in 2011. Their phone message said they weren't open on Saturday but I could "press '6' for Chari's cell phone." I pressed '6' and got Chari. She said a crew was going to be working today and she would send someone over to measure and get me a quote. Someone was there by 8am to measure - I got a quote texted to me by 8:15a which I accepted and the workers were there putting in replacement glass by 9am!! Wow!! We opened for business at 10a without any interruption! Charijean was very responsive and got me up an going for business before we even opened - I couldn't ask for anything more! I called again on a Monday morning (9 days later) thinking that I would get better response. Was told the estimator would call me later that day. He never called. I had Akamai Glass do the install on a 3/8" custom frame-less shower stall enclosure as well as change the rollers out on 2 aluminum framed windows in my condo. They were timely and arrived when scheduled for both the estimates/measurement as well as the install. They did a good job with both projects and even added some fabric to the window frames to assist with some rattling issues I had. I thought pricing was fair, especially after speaking to Screens & Things, Inc. who I would NOT recommend just based on the outrageous quotes I got from them. All in it cost me a little over $2k, they were able to to all the work in about half a day but expect a lead time of 4-6 wks on the custom glass. read more

My sliding window shattered, leaving a big hole in my wall in my high rise condo in Waikiki. I called, texted, emailed, and chatted with every glass and window company I could find. Akamai was one of the few who are really available to help in an emergency. The company owner answered my call and had me text photos of the window to him. He had two of his guys at my condo in an hour. They took the window frame with them back to the Akamai warehouse and returned a few hours later with brand new glass in the frame and the wheels on the frame replaced. All of the other companies I had managed to reach gave me a six week estimate because they needed to have the glass cut and set to them from another location. Akamai does the work themselves in their warehouse in Honolulu. The guys were polite and friendly in my home. They discovered that one of my other windows was loose and fixed it on the spot at no charge. They even offered to help with cleaning up. Just called for a quote for a simple job and the rep I spoke to was very rude and kept interrupting me while I explained my project. Yes, I understand it is difficult to visualize someone's project but if you don't let them finish describing the project, of course it will be 'difficult' to give me and estimate. When I finally finished explaining to them what I wanted to get done, their response was a simple "umm, maybe $600-700 just for installation.. I don't know". which is already more than the cost of material & installation from 2 other companies I've called. You would think that when a potential customer is inquiring for a quote, a better attitude and approach is taken, but nope, not today.
