I typically need two to four drafts to splash down to check out every changing options, white porters, festbiers, black lagers, spiced ales, fruity beers, and ciders easily overwhelm the casual sipper. The big surprise win that actually got me back to The Tap this year is Sunking's Amber Has Two Mom's, a complex and unrivaled red ale I need to find now that it's gone. There is an unfortunate gluten heavy hand over most of the menu, dairy, and high carbs pervade perhaps to combat BAC. Gluten free crust is offered for pizza and buns but no such options for apps or wraps. Surprisingly the ahi, burger of the month, their sauces, especially the pesto, are fantastic! Parking can be tricky but there's plenty of street and garage options. I had given up with the trivia allowing cheaters to prosper, perhaps that has been addressed. Rewards program is awkward, unable to check points or browse deals without the app. There are few better outdoor dining spots for people watching and taking in the Purdue vibes however the picnic tables are not so stable or comfortable. Plenty of space inside, private room in the back, massive bar offers literally hundreds of options and most any day can pour nearly any style imaginable; and the staff this fall is well trained and friendly. Excited to see The Tap back for me!

6/17/15 Today around 1PM I placed an order on hungryboiler.com. I recently had two orders open, one of which was for Moe's Southwest Grill and the other for AJ's Burgers. As I was inputting my credit card and delivery information, I was unaware that I was still on the order for AJ's. The order processed and I seen that it was for AJ's after everything went through. I called AJ's right away to cancel the order, as I thought it was Moe's that I was paying for. Right after that I contacted hungryboilder.com and informed them that I would need a refund. As I reading over there policies online I noticed a "All sales are final" message, so I went ahead and called AJ's back and told them to go ahead with the order but to change some things on the sandwich I ordered, which was a breaded chicken (only lettuce extra onion), a small fry, and a small coke. My delivery came maybe 15 minutes after that. I opened up my order and noticed that the chicken had pickles and tomato on it and looked dry. I took one bite and the chicken patty was so hard I could not even bite through. I went to my fries and ate one and they were soggy and looked like they had been sitting for hours. Then I went to take a drink of my coke and it was flat having no carbonation what so ever. I called the store back shortly after that and talked to a manager and explained my situation. I also informed him that I have ordered there before and the food was never this terrible. I continued to explain to him that the food was disgusting and clearly not what I paid for. He advised me that the only thing he could do for me was send me out a new meal if I went through my trash to dig out the old meal. He also told me that he could not refund my money. At that point I became upset and asked to speak to the store manager. He informed me that he was the store manager (of which he hesitated to say so I don't believe he was) and that he could not doing anything until I dug my disgusting meal that I threw away out of the trash and that it was store policy. At this point I will be trying to get in contact with the real store manager and inform he/she of my situation and see to it that this is made right. I will also encourage the community to take part in standing up for bad customer experiences such as the one I've had today. Horrible experience with AJ's Burgers!!! 6/18/15 The owner of the store did reach out to me after I sent a couple emails. He did in fact explain the policy very briefly on why they want take the food back with them. He sincerely apologized and gave me his word that such an experience would never happen again. He also went out of his way to make sure that my meal was free of charge and offered me 3 free meals. Needless to say I am very pleased at how this was handled; not for the free meals I was given, but for the simple fact of knowing that this place cares about each and every customer by reaching out to them whether it's a good experience or bad. AJ's Burgers and Beef is the restaurant to visit if you're in the mood for some great Chicago cuisine. AJ's offers a large variety of Chicago-style and All-American food at a reasonable price. On my first visit to AJ's I went with my mother. We had some difficulty finding it due to its somewhat hidden location. However, once we found it we decided to go ahead and try it out. We ordered different food in order to get a taste of the different menu items. I ordered a regular cheeseburger and my mom ordered a Chicago dog. My cheeseburger was good but it was a little plain for me. I typically like my food to have a lot of seasonings so that could be why I thought it was plain. I did not try the Chicago dog according to my mom it was amazing. The best part of our meal, however, was the fries. We ordered regular fries and waffle fries. They were both absolutely delicious. They were crispy but at the same time soft with great flavor. So, although I've only been to AJ's once I don't have any complaints about their service. I think they had good customer service. The girl that took my order was very friendly. We did have a to wait a couple of minutes for our food to be ready but it wasn't a very long time considering it was lunchtime. Something that I found interesting during my visit was the type of customer that eats at AJ's; or rather it was the lack of type. During that particular lunch hour that I was there the customers present were very different one from one another. There were customers that looked like they worked in construction as well as those that worked in an office. There were students as well as people that looked like they were already retired. The restaurant itself is not too big but it has a decent amount of seating. They have a lot of decorations on the walls. They are all sports-related, mainly the Chicago teams such as the Bears and the Cubs. The TVs in the background created a very casual dining experience. My one complain, however, is that while I was there the place got very smoky. I don't know if it was due to poor ventilation of they burned something in the kitchen but during the last couple of minutes that we were there the restaurant became very foggy with smoke. My roommate and I ordered food at about 3am, tonight. We waited until about 4:18am to call in and make an inquiry as to why our food had not arrived. I was informed by the imbecile on the phone that our order had been canceled and that the delivery guy had "came out there and tried the door code, but it didn't work; and called my phone a couple of times." Our apartment does not have a door code and I did not receive a phone call from anyone, let alone our mouth breathing delivery person. I'll look to order food from another place in the future and recommend that others do the same, lest you want to be subject to the service equivalent of a stranger spitting in your mouth. read more

I am an uber eats driver and I came to pick up and order when i saw a front counter girl, kirsten, i believe was her name. She looked as if she had been crying. It was quickly confirmed that she had been because her coworkers and MANAGER, were making fun of her for it!!!! The MANAGER, partaking in bullying when they should have put a stop to it immediately. Absolutely unprofessional and unethical. Kirsten, Im sorry your employer and your coworkers are so disgusting. I came to Aj's expecting to be fed with a meal which would satisfy my drunken hunger, which it did. However, as a drunken customer I expect to be treated as such. My three friends and I waited for an hour and a half before we received our food. What drunken person is able to wait that long. Luckily I am a chill af compared to most people. I was so close to throwing hands that my three friends had to dog pile me at the counter. At that point I shed a tear and left the building in defeat. New location is a great atmosphere for dining in. Sports fans should come check out the new location at 150 vine street. 10 TVs to watch the Boilermakers on or your favorite sports team. Reasonable pricing and various beers to choose from. Draft, bottle and canned beers available. These burgers are out of this world. Anytime you need a quick pick-me-up this is the place to go. Burgers are authentic Chicago style with great fries. This place is really good. I always get the Garlic Chicken & Cheese (w/ American Cheese). Always freshly cooked. Their fries and onion rings are like nothing in the area. My suggestion is to get carryout instead of delivery. Because I live off campus, by the time I get delivery, the sandwich needs to be warmed up. read more
