I checked out this trail yesterday which is way back in Aiea heights. It's 4.2 miles which for me was a pretty significant distance considering I started work at 4:30 AM. It's really pretty and has various environments. Mainly it's winds along the inner side of a long oval ridge. There are many little side trails which offer views of Pearl Harbor and over the valley where the H3 Highway goes. You can pretty much see the entire length up to the tunnel. There is are lots of little pockets of tree forest such as pine, bamboo, ti, mossy areas, and a little jungle area. I went counter clockwise and besides the length, it wasn't bad at all. Very pretty. Most of the trail was pretty wide and well treaded. Not too many narrow areas but some fallen trees which were easy to go over. There were a few manageable muddy patch but the majority of the trail was dry and level. It took me 2.25 hours with frequent stopping and exploring. Honestly the most challenging part was going up the drive way at the end because it leave you at the bottom of the hill. Great trail to spend the day on and take your time. Public restrooms and picnic areas in the park and lots of nice spots to spot and take in the beauty along the trail. read more

I love this trail. I Like the idea of getting away from everything so close to town. Then again every trail is really close by town. But this trail is really a nice for beginners. You can walk, run, skip...no, don't skip, NO skipping! :-) I even saw once a guy riding a unicycle on the path, passing me twice. And making my way down the path there was a bench to sit and relax for a while as well as soak in the view or take some great sunset photos. There are bathrooms near by so you don't have to squat in the trees. The park areas have tables and nice open areas to play. I just love it because its just a nice walk. read more

Fun and easy hike. Not dangerous at all as long as you watch your steps. It is a great work out hike! Very well kept park and hike. Grasses and bushes trimmed. Falling trees are cut if they block the trail. There are some too big to move but you can always walk around the stump. There are a lot of pretty trees to see. Today there was a refreshing breeze that we enjoyed through out the hike. A little scattered drizzles but it didn't phase us. All the times I came here the ending of the trail had a little higher incline and it was wet. We started from the top entrance. You can also go the opposite direction. My slippers got little muddy but I kept water in my trunk to wash off the mud on my leg and on my slippahz. That's right slippahz! I have to recommend to wear covered shoes on this hike with lots of grip. But I was okay with my Scott's. bring lots of water! Enjoy read more

Family friendly hike. We hiked the whole loop in 2.5 hours with twins on our backs and an 8 year old. We made a few rest stops and checked out the look out points. It's mostly breezy, but woah it's extremely muggy when the winds die down in certain areas. We ran out of water towards the end, so I suggest bringing enough. Also, bug spray! I got bit by the blood sucking stinkers. It was muddy towards the end so be careful! It's slippery. We parked at the top and went around. Walking up that road to the parking lot is killer!!! Oh and just a tip! People with dogs, it's common sense to pick up after your friend!!! Don't be a douche! read more

Want a long yet steady hike? This is the one. By keeping my New Years resolution of the usual weight loss, I wanted to find a hike that's be good for walking but not as treacherous as something like Koko Head. Aiea loop is a great choice for coming with a group of friends due to the long 4.8 miles you'll be enduring and the 2-3 hour journey (if you're walking). It is quite possible to jog the hike because there is a lot of flat ground, but some parts of the hike have many roots and fallen logs that you have to maneuver around. Because the hike is so long, I suggest you prep for the hike with the usual water, fruits or trail mix bars, good shoes, and possibly wipes in case you get your hands dirty climbing around or nature's call. Like other reviews, this hike does sometimes seem endless. You think it'll finish, but there is more to go. If you want to estimate how long it'll be till you're finished and if you will be walking most of the hike, time yourself for about 2 hours and 45 minutes. I'm pretty sure you'll be done around this time. Mosquito repellant is an option but when I went, there were barely. Also also! towards the end, there are trees that have grown into literal CIRCLES/LOOPS! Have fun and be safe! :) read more

There is a great possibility that you will get muddy. This hike is a lot of fun but it's very basic. The only reason I comment on it being basic is because of how spoiled we are in this state with so many great hikes. From the other adventurers in the park it appears that this is a great running trail. The only issues with this is as a running trail are the roots that stick out of the path which would add some sort of technical aspect to it. Overall though this is a great hike. We've used it for work get-togethers for comradery building. read more

The Aiea Loop Trail is a very relaxing hike - nice views of different parts of the island and loved that we were walking along the H-3 freeway but from way up above. Here are some FYIs for people like myself that are NOT in shape like the beastly trail runners I saw that day. Props to you folks. - I parked in the middle lot because so many recommended parking there because it's close to the end of the trail - which was definitely true and good info. HOWEVER, some reviews glossed over the monstrous trek up to the top lot where the trail begins! I'm not even joking when I say that if it's possible - bring 2 cars and have one car park in the middle lot and one car park at the top lot to avoid the long walk up to the start of the trail. My friend and I had to actually take a short break BEFORE we even got on the trail after walking up that steep devil hill. BUT, if bringing 2 cars isn't possible, the lesser of two evils is definitely parking in the middle lot and trekking to the top. Or even start at the end of the trail (counterclockwise?) and finish at the top. Then you just have to walk down the giant hill. Whatever you do, avoid walking up that hill at the end of your hike! Ignore those reviews telling you to park in the lowest lot. They're spreading lies!! - The beginning and end of the trail were the more difficult parts. But, everything in the middle is relatively flat and well maintained. - Take a rest if you need it. There are lots of shady spots along the trail to rest and catch your breath. There are also benches at different lookout points which was pretty cool. - Have fun and practice social distancing! read more

fairly easy trail, it feels like walking through a forest, the trail has nice muddy colors and various elevations. it has a great view of the highway read more

This was a great mid-difficulty hike! I logged the hike at 7.6 km and it took us about 2 hours and 15 min with a short water or photo stop here and there. The hike itself is relatively easy but during wet conditions can get very muddy and slippery so not so good for older folks who might be a bit more fragile or less agile. Definitely bring an extra pair of shoes or flip-flops for the drive back so you don't track mud in the car. There are several parking options. You can either park in a lower lot and then climb up the very steep hill along the road to the trailhead first when you're still fresh or park at the upper lot and have to climb up the hill along the road to the car after your hike when you come off of the trail at the end of the loop. This would also be a great place to trail run during drier conditions :) read more

Just did this trail for the first time to break in the new hiking carrier we got for our son for Christmas. It took us just under 3 hours (2 adults, one carrying a 30lb toddler). Few things: 1. Someone logged this as a 7k......our Garmin watches said just over a 10k or 6.4 miles. The Hurt Series trail run that runs through here is a 7mile run. 2. We did the hike during winter so the middle part of the hike was SUPER muddy. Be prepared. 3. It's doable with a pack carrier but there are some obstacles. My 6'6" husband was able to navigate them slowly. Only reason I gave 3 stars is because I'm a nervous hiker so the mud along steep drop offs made me a bit nervous. There aren't many lookouts but the trail is constantly changing which kept it interesting enough for me! read more

Five stars. Nice park to visit. Did the trail hike a few times. It was ok. The environment was nice & it's nice n cool up there. There's a family of wild boars too, but be careful with wild animals, especially a mama with piglets. I remained in my car, with the windows up. I'll leave that one to the real hunters. Aiea Loop Trail - Hiking Near Me - Aiea, Hawaii

You can't get lost in this hike! Located in Aiea, to get here you have to drive up on Aiea Heights Drive till you bump into the state park sign and keep going and follow the signs pointing to Aiea Loop Trail. Here are a list of things for the newbies reading this need to know. - Be prepared to get dirty! Parts of the path are little muddy especially in the shaded area where the sun can't dry it up. I try to avoid stepping in the really wet muddy area but it got to a point where you have no choice but to submerge your foot. - Its only 4.5 miles. Doesn't sound like a long trip but going up and down, hop scotching over tree roots, jumping over or ducking under trees and did I mention the mud earlier. - Get a walking stick. You don't know if you need it until you wish you had it. This can be a big help when you start loosing your balance and come near falling into the mud or you just need to give yourself that extra hump to get up or to aid yourself coming down. - Its nice to have a camera. There isn't that much to see out here but the view of Pearl Harbor and H3 freeway are pretty awesome to see up from a mountain view point. - Food en-route. There are guava trees growing on the side of the trail if your hungry for a little snack feel free to grab some. - Do you have a dog? This place is great to take your dog out for a hike. Overall this hike is good, great for beginners and you get a good work out. Yelp 365 Challenge - #008/365 read more

This is my second time here & had a great hike! It hasn't rained for about a week but still had plenty of muddy areas along the trail. Went around 10am on a weekend and ran into about 7 other hikers. Super friendly & considerate. Trail seemed alot longer than the first hike. Took us about 2 hours to finish the trail. Parked a lot closer to the end of trail where we had to hike up one hill to our car. Bathrooms are very clean with lots of toilet paper. There is also a water fountain. Trail is very pet friendly! My puppy had a great time! I suggest bringing water, hat, sunscreen (for the non-shady parts of the hike), hand sanitizer, extra shoes/slippers, etc. I highly recommend this trail if your looking for a beautiful scenic nature experience! read more

Type in maps AIEA HEIGHTS DRIVE !!! The automated directions takes you to the wrong address. I parked at the first parking lot when I got in because of a review I read and went through the entrance that's typically the exit (it was through a campground, but you go down some stairs first) I would suggest driving closer up there, there are a few small parking lots. Wish I could be more specific but it was a tad confusing but definitely worth going, you will figure it out. Definitely BRING A SNACK & water. Lol. My blood sugar was in the depths after mile 4. Well it wasn't no where near that but the 4.2/4.8 whatever the sign said in the beginning miles. I'm way out of shape and some reviews said it would be challenging, it really wasn't. It had its steep parts and I wanted to give up but I pushed my way through it and I am glad I did. The views from the trail are B-E-A-U-T-I-F-U-L!!! First off, i dont enjoy exercising but i did enjoy this hike. As long as it hasnt rained recently this hike can be done by almost everyone. Its a very long hike for me... i think about 3 hours. And from the name of the trail it does go in a loop. Next time i go ill have to remember to park on the bottom parking area and walk up in the beginning or start from the lower entrance. I made thr mistake of parking at the top, starting at the top, then having to climb the hill back up to the car after being exhausted from the 3 hours of hiking! So just a tip there... anyways, from certain parts of the hike youre able to see the H3. Nothing special, just the freeway lol. But nice breeze in those areas. I was very surprised how clear the path is. From winds and rains the week before i would think the path would be completely covered in branches and totally muddy but they arent. Someone is doing a great job at cutting branches and trees that come down and block the path! I have seen all ages doing the hike so i guess as long as you can handle at least 3 hours, and some muddy areas here and there... try it out! read more

I did this hike on New Year's Day with a friend. It was a nice way to start off 2012. I'll rate this as an easy hike since it doesn't have any steep inclines or declines, and the paths are well-worn. It might be long for some people, since it's about 4.5 - 5 mi long. My friend and I took about 2 to 2.5 hrs. to finish it, and I kept stopping along the way to take pictures. There were people on mountain bikes, and runners going through the trail. There are fallen trees that obscure the trail at times, but people have added footholds, so you can hop over the tree trunks easier. We somehow missed the wreckage of the plane that's mentioned. Not sure if we just didn't see it, or if it's been obscured by vegetation. I've seen it in the past, and was looking out for it, but we never did see it. Overall it was a nice hike, and we visited the Heiau near the entrance to the park on our way out. read more

Great trail! Its almost 5 miles and it's not too difficult. It can get muddy after it rains, so I wanna honey suggest going right after the rain. I love that it's a loop and you don't need to turn around at all. There is plenty of shade so if you don't get there super early in the morning you will be fine. This is also a great hike for dogs ( as long as they are fine with 5 miles ) bring water. Some good views of the H3 and Pearl Harbor also. read more

I've done this hike when I was younger but today was the first time doing it that I could really remember. It's all the way up in aiea heights, nice place for lunch picnic and you could even camp out! The hike itself is not that hard, kids and all ages do it daily. Dogs are allowed which is awesome! Make sure you bring a leash though. Since I haven't been here in forever we made the mistake of parking at the first lot and walking up. Save yourself 10 min before and after the hike and drive up to the 2nd lot to park. Overall a nice hike, usually not crowded at all and great views of the H3!! read more

I love his hike. It's fresh and clean and has great views of the H3. Gets muddy so be prepared. Easy to moderate hike. Bring water and expect to be here a few hours if you're a beginner. I also suggest parking at the bottom of the hill, near the campgrounds and walking up the hill to the start of the trail. Only because majority of the hike will be down hill if you start at that end and trust me, you'll want your car at the bottom of the hill after this long hike. Hope that made sense read more

Aiea ridge trail. Halfway into aiea loop you can discover a trail that branches off into aiea ridge trail. This trail is for those that would like to discover a path less traveled or want to hike along the entire h3. The end of this trail sits next to the entrance of the h3 tunnel. The view is nice but the freeway just ruins it. The trail is very narrow and drops on both sides. Some parts have little or no ground to pass. The weeds are a bit over grown but this provides very good foundation to grab when almost falling over the edge. It is very muddy because it is always raining. Total 11 miles. 3 rope sections. This is a beginner and children/pet-friendly hike, although it is long. Trail is straightforward and easy to follow. It is for the most part flat, with the occasional ascents and descents. There was also a muddy part towards the "Exit" and a part where you cross a low stream about three feet wide, not impossible or unsafe for young children or pets. It is mostly a trek in the forest and offers great scenery of nature, as well as views of the H3 freeway. Hike was approximately 4 miles long, and took my group a little less than 2 hours, including stopping for water and to take pictures. We are faster hikers and would approximate the trail to take about 2.5 - 3+ hours for others. I would like to note that although this is called "Aiea Loop Trail," you will not exit where the trail begins. We started the hike at the official "Start" of the trail at the top of the road and came out at the camping site below, which meant a trek back up to the top parking lot where we parked (about an additional 10 minutes, and another mini workout). Because you are able to enter/exit at different paths, some people enter through the "Exit" portion of the trail. I would recommend starting at the official "Start" as towards the "Exit" portion, the path is pretty muddy. If you are coming from the "Start" you'll be hiking upwards through the mud, which I prefer. The drive to the hike was also quite nice, you'll pass two camping grounds before finally reaching the top, where I suggest parking. There are various parking lots throughout the entire camp sites so you will find parking, however it may be a trek to the start of the trail or a trek back to your car depending on where you park. Also to note that the women's restrooms were the cleanest I've ever seen for a public restroom (toilets were actually white), however the guys in my group mentioned that their restrooms were really dirty. read more

1. They should have signs saying that once you enter into the Park it's a ONE WAY street. 2. Wayyyyyyy too muddy. You have to be EXTREMELY careful. I don't recommend you take your kids. 3. I did this yesterday with my 2 senior dogs and my mostly blind puppy. We loved it. All three did it so well and really loved it. We even got rained on which was super nice. Overall, this was a very easy but long walk in the woods. We parked in the middle lot and had to walk up to start but when we finished we had only a short walk up to the car. There were a few vantage points along the way but overall it was just a nice 2 hour walk in the woods. The last bit was so muddy, so I wouldn't recommend slippers as I almost lost my sneakers a few times. No water was needed except for the dogs Bc I always take better care of them than myself! Nice and peaceful hike, it seems the trail is usually damped mud, not so much in the beginning but half way through even when it's not raining. It's fairly easy but I would not recommend attempting going through the whole trail with smaller kids; although halfway is fine (unless it's raining). The further you get up the mountain the trial has some narrow points. There are 3 small parking lots, the one that starts at the trail has a rest room, hard to miss. read more

My favorite trail. I usually hike this twice a year (yeah I'm totally fit -___-) I've been hiking this trail ever since I was younger and damn it, every f^$#(king single time I GET LOST But hey, at least while I'm lost I can enjoy the beautiful scenery and pretty much get my self-esteem knocked 100 points when I see a group of people practically sprinting this trail like it's a walk in the park. It usually takes me 3 hours to get out of this labyrinth (okay it's not that bad) but the real challenging part of this trail is not even a part of the actual trail...it's actually at the end and god damn ...it's the road going back up to your car in the parking lot. I pretty much dread this hike back up to the car the whole time I'm hiking and the thought of the excruciating pain my thunder thighs (due to eating too much chicharrón) has to go through hovers over my head like a black cloud. You'd think that going back to the car would be great incentive for me but noooooo I. Die. Every single damn time. I know what you're thinking, how the hell is this your favorite trail? I love that it's shaded and it's an awesome trail to hike with your close friends or loved ones because you get to bond and talk about shit you never talk about if you weren't hiking on a trail and there was nothing else to distract you. Another reason why is because after we're done with the trail, I feel accomplished and kind of at peace with my thoughts. Here's some advice, try to go a few days after it rains. The mud buildup is super intense and if you don't have a friend with you, it can be very dangerous. Last time I went there was a tree that actually was blocking the path and without someone spotting me, I could have easily ended up in the hospital. And I dont have medical insurance. Wear good shoes and accept the fact that your shoes will get mud or super dirty. Don't be sportin' your J's. read more

I'd rate this trail 3.5 stars. It's better than OK, but I wouldn't say that I'm quite a fan. PROS: + Ample parking + Not too difficult, or strenuous + Great beginner hike + Great view of Halawa Valley CONS: - Not many breathtaking scenic viewpoints - Some spots are really muddy all the time - Since it's an easy hike there isn't anything too exciting about it This is definitely a beginner hike. The elevation change isn't too drastic, and there isn't any terrain that's too challenging, or physically taxing. At 4.8 miles it is a pretty decent length, though. The abundant foliage is nice to shade you from the sun, so you'll keep nice and cool. The down side to the protection from the sun is that in some spots where it's sheltered from the sun and wind the path doesn't dry out, and there are perpetual mud pits on the trail. Watch out for those! There were also a lot of downed treed across the path that you would have to go under, or over depending on how much space you have, and most of them have notches cut out of them for ease of stepping over. Some have had whole sections chopped out to clear the path. There are a few spots where you can stop and admire the view, but most of these views are just looking out into the valleys. The most impressive view, in my opinion, was the view looking towards the back of Halawa Valley. You can see the valley with the H3 running up it to the tunnel entrance at the back. One thing that I liked about this trail was that it kind of reminded me of an old RPG/adventure video game. The ones where you're wandering around the world, and you can only follow the path that's set for you, and you can't step off into the woods. In the games it's like an invisible wall is blocking you. On this trail you can step off the path, but you'll just slide down into the small valley below. It kind of felt like an adventure! I highly recommend this hike if you, or someone you know are just starting to get into hiking. As always, be sure to bring enough water, and maybe some OFF if you're prone to getting eaten alive my mosquitoes. I'd say sunscreen is optional, but I always have a tube in my hiking bag. read more

This is a great beginner trail! My friends and I took their kids here (8 & 10 year old girls ), they made it through the 4 1/2 mile trail just fine. Some complaints of being tired in the beginning, but as we got to the upper section they were fine. I must warn you though that there are areas where you will see drop offs into the valley, so if you do take kids, PLEASE PLEASE be careful, they must be supervised at all times, and I would recommend that one adult stays in front of them and the other behind them. If it rained do expect to see mud, I recommend a walking stick (2 for $24 @ Walmart) and shoes with good traction it really helps... Eric A.'s Review mentions wild pigs, we did not see any this time around thankfully! But you should be aware. As we made our way through the hike, I kept trying to look for the air plane remnants but was not able to find it. We saw 7 other hikers along the trail and they too were not able to spot the plane. On the trail you will find 2 benches one is located about 25 minutes into the hike if you start from the top (by the bathrooms), the other is located at the peak area (about an hour and a half into the trail if you start from either the bottom or top of the trail). You can use these as your markers to give you an idea of where your at along the trail. It was a great experience for the kids and a good workout for us adults! The iphone worked. if you have the 3Gs the compass worked well and I was able to show the girls how the coordinates on the following map (http://oahuhiking.com/aiea.htm) worked along side the compass application! Guess, I should have used the Compass app to find the plane since I had the coordinates, but i put it away since I did not want to get distracted and accidentally roll down the valley... nope that would not be good! Finally, if you start later in the day, note with kids, it took us 3 hours to get through the whole trail. read more

I'm usually pretty well prepared on hikes...I'll bring plenty of water, snacks, hand sanitizer, etc... and I did bring all of those items...except the most important thing, SNEAKERS! We were already half way there when I realized this and it was already past 3, so it was late to turn around..Since I had read that kids were able to go on the trail I told my friend I'd be fine.... I was fine....till we hit the mud...holy crap. A guy we passed had told me I should go barefoot and I replied - OK (in my mind - Hell no, gross) Well turns out the old man was right...taking my sandals turned out to be the smartest idea....cause the mud was sticking to the bottom of my rainbows... The trail was muddy for a good portion of the hike, especially near the wooded area at the end...I started working up a sweat having to drag my feet through the mud. I mean I guess it was similar to wearing my vibrams except now my toenails are black... The hike was an easy afternoon one. We saw kids on it and I think the hardest part is the mud...As far as steep inclines or rock climbing or anything of that sort...you will not see any. There were a TON of strawberry guava trees...We ended up picking a bunch - and I'm hoping to make a strawberry guava pie today! :) One word of advice....if you have sweet blood like me, WEAR BUG SPRAY. Mosquitoes love me...I don't know what it is...but they do. They always find me. So if you have a tendency to get bitten when no one else does, bring some.... OH, and I saw my first wild boar! They didn't even nudge when we honked at them! 31 Yelp Review Challenge : 1/31 YELP 365: 243/365 read more

The hike wasn't bad but it's not something I would do again. The trail itself is said to be 4.8 miles and fairly flat for majority of the way. There are some up hills and downhills but nothing too critical. The main thing that I didn't like about the hike is the fact that there isn't much to look at in terms of a scenic view. The nature and scenery was beautiful but since it is a loop trail and mostly just forrest, there was no sense of "YAY look at this view, we made it to the top!" After we got to the half way point it just felt like we were looking at the same trees and that we were walking in circles. Other yelpers have said that the trail can be extremely muddy but it depends on when you hike. Hurricane/tropical storm Iselle occurred this past Friday (I hiked on Thursday, 6 days after the rain) and found that the trail was fairly dry. There are some portions that don't get much sunlight that were a bit muddy but mud was definitely avoidable overall. Since the hike is around 5 miles and slow and steady for most of the trip, it did get kind of boring and tiring. It wasn't strenuous but walking for 5 miles in general will give you some aches here and there. Around 35 minutes before the end, everyone kept asking if it was almost over. The loop is good for beginners and people who have bad knees because the lack of inclines is definitely easier on the joints. You can see a LOT of trees, which was beautiful but there is no ocean view at the top like many other hikes. You do get a really cool view of the H3 though! There is parking right at the entrance of the hike so don't make the mistake of parking at the bottom and having to walk up a steep road to get to the entrance, which is exactly what we did and regretted (worst part of the whole hike). Overall it was a good experience but I don't think I would come again. read more

The 'Aiea Loop Trail, which marks one of the most accessible entrances to the mighty Ko'olau Mountains, is actually composed of three major features that make this place worth visiting. Kea'iwa Hei'au: An old, sacred Hawaiian ground that was used for healing. The stone platforms--set in the original pattern by the ancients--sit silently near the gates of the park. Passing the hei'au, especially at dusk, gives you the chills. Here, the spirits of ancestors still roam. Park/Camp Grounds: Sheltered bench areas are found at different sites throughout the forested park. Used frequently by 'Aiea families for picnics and gatherings. Some patrons claim to hear the faint thumping of pahu hula (dance drums), coming from somewhere in the park. Loop Trail: A pleasant, walker-friendly trail that takes you through 4.8 miles of the lovely Ko'olau Mountains. Native trees stand imposingly, like ancient warrior-guards, and along the path eucalyptus trees and berry bushes kiss the air with a calming fragrance. Leaving the Park: I've always imagined the long drive down from the park summit like a descent from the sky and a return to earth. On the way, I gaze at the panoramic view of the militarized zone (i.e., Pearl Harbor) at the foot of the valley, and the bustling activity and movement of 'Aiea Town. And then I turn my head back towards the summit, as if to bid farewell to nature. read more

I enjoy this trail as it's long enough for you to break a sweat and it's a loop that will bring you back around to where you parked. This 4.5 mile trail has good parking, a clearly marked trail, and very cool birds-eye views of the H3 Freeway. This is a good trail for kids and is fun when it's been a pretty dry week. If it's muddy then it's a mud bath, so be warned. If you don't enjoy the mud, then definitely go somewhere else or on a hot day! read more

Nice loop trail to get out and walk. Trail can be quite muddy at times due to rain which reminds me, use bug spray! Lots of mosquitoes as it's pretty wooded. Cool view of the H3. Overall, a fun Sunday, Mud Day. read more

Let me preface this review by saying that I am an Aiea native, born/raised and currently reside in Aiea. So I obviously have some deep rooted love for Aiea and have done this hike a few times. While I love coming to the park I just don't find this particular trail to be my cup of tea. I lived at the top of Aiea Heights for about 12 years so I know how often it rains, which pretty much ALL the time. With that said, the trails can get pretty muddy and rigorous to walk. There have been times where we would be mid hike and it began pouring...NOT FUN. I nearly sprained my ankle after multiple times of rolling it while slip sliding in the mud. We were all a muddy mess after we were done. Other Yelpers seem to love this hike but this one is just not for me. :) read more

This is a fairly easy hike which is a little less than five miles. I like it because it is close to where I live and it takes about 2 and a half hours for me to do. I can loose 500 calories doing this which is awesome! There is a significant amount of parking and there seems to be a lot of people that camp at the park here. I did this hike again on Saturday, when I woke up too late to go on a long super calorie loss hike. It is a pretty view of the H3 and the shrubbery changes dramatically from bottom to top and bottom again. There are a lot of different plants and really pretty scenery like you are in a movie. There are a lot of couples I passed and a lot of single people that run this hike. You can go in either way, but it is a loop. We started off at the dry end and ended up with muddy shoes since near the bottom there is a lot of mud with the stream and rain. I love the Mariners Ridge hike because of the view, but this is my favorite hike for the scenary as you are hiking. read more
