I run a large, very complex digital, pro tools based music studio. We're talking multiple SSDs, HDs, outboard equipment, interfaces, controllers . I understand service centers have policies, and I wasn't trying to argue or ask for special treatment. When I walked in the store tonight it was empty and I hear a "I'll be right with you" yelled from behind a wall. When the technician walked out and asked what they could do for me I replied with a sad smile and a "I hope you can help" and went on with my story. As I was trying to explain, they interrupted and asked me to remove my phone from its case, and took it without explanation. As soon as they noticed a very small cosmetic scratch on the frame -- unrelated to the software boot issue -- they cut me off mid-sentence and stopped listening. The phone (which is 2 months old) was handed back to me with "it's out of warranty," with no other explanation. I tried to continue the description of the issue, as it was a known software issue with the phone. They insisted that a minor cosmetic scratch voided the warranty. I questioned it and they said they would check with the manager. Went behind a wall for less than 2 minutes and returned and said they wouldn't help, I could try mailing it to Samsung. The manager did not come out to address me personally. This was especially frustrating because Samsung later confirmed the device was still eligible for warranty service for this issue. I can accept a "no," but the lack of basic communication and empathy made an already stressful situation worse.

Today, after Apple refused to replace the cracked screen on my 10 y/o's iPhone 6+, I stopped by the Zagg kiosk to have the cracked glass shields on my 11 y/o's iPhone 6s+ and my 7+ replaced. I noticed a sign that said they also replaced cracked screens so I asked about the service. The technician explained that if he replaced the screen Apple would not look at the phone. I indicated that was fine since they refused to replace the screen anyways. He said it would take about 20 minutes. We returned after 30 minutes to a fixed screen and a very excited and happy 10 y/o.
