We had heard good things about this restaurant from people at the phone store nearby so we stopped in on Thursday night.Place was fairly dead, only about 2 tables of people at 5pm. Decor was nice and the place was clean and kept up.Service was so so.Could have done without the music however, it was kinda loud and reminded us of a sort of Mexican club-ish sound?We prefer the softer more traditional music that doesn't interfere with conversation. This was distracting. The chips were thick-ish which we like, and the salsa was spicy. The beans and rice were as we're used to, but the fajita meat although spiced was not charred in any way so it was kinda just like steak pieces.I feel like if you order fajitas they should be sizzling when brought to the table. I have been coming here for a very long time since I live nearby. The food and service has always been so great. Today I ordered something new and was more impressed. I asked for some street tacos which I didn't really see on the menu. The owner stated they could make anything I wanted. Boy did they ever!! Best ones I've ever had in this area and most plentiful. Wow, what a find. I went with my son who goes frequently as it is close to his house. Was i impressed, super clean, great atmosphere and decor along with outstanding food. I lived in both AZ and CA and the food at Agave was absolutely as good as the places I've lived. Super friendly service, piping hot food and extremely reasonable prices with huge portions. I had the beef enchilada and beef burrito enchilada style with rice and beans. The meat was tender , flavorful and covered on Mexican cheese. Delicious. A must go every time I'm in town. read more

I've been to this spot a couple of times before Covid-19 for taco Tuesdays. And those tacos are delicious! Super cheap, I think like $1.50 and they are very good. But today, it's not Tuesday, and I want tacos. Not rice and beans, just tacos YOLO. Wasn't very busy, so I decided to dine in. Customer service was great and restaurant was clean. The waitress and I chatted for a few minutes about the weather, she had a great personality. I asked for recommendations and she suggested Tacos Al pastor. The dish arrived and I was like Woah! I turned to the waitress and said " I must look like a little piglet with this dish and the enchilada on the side?" She didn't say anything but I'm sure behind the mask she was like oink, oink. (-: The best thing about this dish was the flavor. Sure I've had Tacos Al Pastor before but the flavor here was out of bounds. When the first bite hit my mouth it was like fireworks. And it continued that way throughout the entire dish. I wasn't able to finish all three because there was an enchilada, oink, oink. I'm almost embarrassed to admit this is my first enchilada. Almost. I usually get tacos (corn tortillas) or chimichangas. It's my go to Mexican favorites, until now. Today, I took a journey beyond my comfort zone, a small step in the right direction ;-) The enchilada looked like it it was drowning in sauce but it wasn't, it was swimming. We looked all over town for some good lunch to eat on Sunday. Upon entering Agave, we could see it was a popular choice. Betsy's entire Sunday School class was at the long table. The menu was big (approximately 1,517 items) so we just picked something. The food was delicious and our drinks were humungous! They offer big Michelada with Shrimp in it, which we did not order, but looked impressive. After we finished our food and drinks and were near death, the waiter seemed to insist we get even more hammered. I could tell he works hard and plays harder. This is a 5 star place. I went two nights in a row. They were some of the best tamales I've ever had, and the salsa was also some of the best I've ever had. The chips were kind a plane without much flavor, but the salsa made up for it. The rice and beans also weren't my favorite, but they were still pretty good, I guess between the tamales and the salsa, that was enough to leave a good impression on me. I guess I'd call it a 4.5 overall, but rounding up to 5 is fine. I also liked the atmosphere in there. It was laid-back, and kind of fun place. They played good music, too. It wasn't the typical old-timey Mariachi guitar & trumpet fare, which is fine, but this was sort of a nice change of pace, I guess you could say. read more

What's stood out to me at Agave? One word... Flavor! Nestled near the University of South Alabama, the recently opened Agave has proven to me that they have what it takes to make it in this town: Great portions, Great flavor, Great prices! I really hope they do well. Back to flavor, I've tried 4 different dishes from Agave now and have yet to be disappointed in either the portions or the flavors. Today, for Cinco de Mayo, I tried the Yolanda's Plate (see Pics). It was absolutely delicious: three cheese enchiladas, topped with shredded chicken, queso, fresh tomato and sour cream, and almost drowning in enchilada sauce! At first I thought it was too much sauce but it was so rich and fresh tasting that I ate it all. Period. My lady ordered the schredded chicken taco salad (see Pic). She said the flavor was very good. Interestingly they served it not in the baked/fried tortilla bowl I think most of us have come to accept as the gold standard of taco salad bowls, but rather a fried, slightly folded tortilla. My sister brought food home from here as a surprise tonight. This is by far the best Mexican restaurant I have eaten. The only place that compares is Guadalajara's located up North in the Midwest. All the other mexican restaurant in Mobile has beef that tastes foul. Whatever you do AVOID Margaritas they're the worst. We've tried ordering food from Margaritas multiple times giving them multiple chances and it's always inedible. read more

One if the more unique restaurants in Mobile, AL. Los Arcos is a fusion of Costa Rican, Indian and something else. It may sound bizarre, but the flavors definitely blend well together. Table side guacamole is a definite must try. So are the entrees on the insert fusion menu. Samosas are also a great appetizer option. read more

I live close to hear and have never tried it until today! Honestly, I was afraid to try the restaurant because it always seemed like the parking lot was empty. It looked like they had gotten new owners because of the new sign out front, so my wife and I decided to give it a shot. Boy, were we surprised!!! I felt like I was in an authentic Mexican restaurant in a small town in Mexico! The burrito vaqueros was AMAZING, it had so much flavor and if you like cilantro this is your dish! Second trip here, I was intrigued by the fusion menu on my first visit, but played it safe and went with the enchilada. No complaints there; it was a clean interpretation, and a large portion. The chips and salsa are quite good - fresh, homemade flavor. On my second visit, I had to have a selection off of the fusion menu. That's what makes this place special. The seafood paella was on special for $13, so I went with it. The rice was cooked perfectly, not over done which can be a pit fall. A little light on the seafood, but no big deal there. The "Indian chutney" was fabulous. It's like liquid cilantro, which sounds strong, but it isn't. I'm not a huge fan of strong cilantro notes. This was just right, not overpowering. I'm definitely going back for a third visit and I'm sticking to the fusion menu for now. The only negative thing I can bring up is the ambiance. This is a family restaurant. There were a lot of families there, thus a lot of kids. I can see having a bad night, being surrounded by snot nosed complaining brats, but I haven't had that bad luck fortunately. I wouldn't want to risk a first or second date here. It's a good place to get loud with a group. read more

First off I would like to say that this is a very home type feel place when you walk in. Now I'll go ahead and start when you DO walk in. The decor seems a bit outdated and it doesn't give a traditional Mexican feel to it. Ideal they definitly need to redo the interior a bit. Another thing that bugged me was how close all the tables were. I could see a lot of people having to move around others just to get out. ESPECIALLY big groups. Enough about the interior. On to the food. The chips and salsa were pretty good. Better then iv had at a restraunt in a while. Definitely look forward to that. The drinks came out pretty quickly. The actual food itself I had a chicken burrito and fajita and the chicken was a bit bland. The beef tasted like it was frozen (almost like hamburger helper) but all in all the dishes were ok. The prices here are also a bit stiff. Yeah you get big plates but the food is only decent. This place feels more like a Mexican diner then a restraunt. All in all me and my girlfriend weren't the most impressed but I look forward to seeing how they update it in the future and we will be coming back to see what they change. One last thing. I ordered via Dapper Deliveries. The chips were stale, the cheese sauce was extremely thin and almost tasteless. The Taco Salad (Beef) was meh. It looked pretty, but there was a definite lack of seasoning for the beef itself. It could have been so good but was just kind of bland. The cheese on top could have been better as well. It was just so so. Because I ordered it online and it was delivered I expected it to be a little cold when it got here, but it wasn't which was good. The menu at Agave Mexican restaurant goes beyond the standard Tex-Mex restaurant items. I have had the menudo here and the broth is rich and flavorful. The tripe was tender and they provide you with the traditional garnish of chopped onions, cilantro, lime wedges and oregano. I have had the tacos de lengua and carnitas here as well. Again, the lengua was very tender and flavorful. The pork carnitas was well-prepared. The service is excellent here at Agave. read more
