A sign that a place is good is that it's always busy, all day long. This is one such place. I always have to wait to be seated in their large, dimly lit, establishment, but never more than a few minutes. I always enjoy waiting for my food while I look at the ads on the tables, the art on the walls and booths, and enjoy the amazing chips and salsa they have to offer. Everything is always so clean! The Burrito Rio Grande is my go-to pick when I dine here, it's loaded with beans, rice, onions and a generous helping of slightly blackened steak tips, and smothered in queso and enchilada sauce, everything a growing boy needs! There are no sides with it because everything you could want is already inside of it. Their staff is always amazing and friendly, and I always tip them accordingly, as they work hard and provide an amazing experience, whether it's lunch or dinner. The margs will get us going let me tell you! Woo everytime we come in to town to visit family we come here. The drinks are strong and delicious! From the outside it does not look like a great place but some of the best places are a hole in the wall. The el pollo Michoacano was amazing. It is larger portions so splitting with someone is the best idea. Or you can take some to go for another day. I've been to this restaurant a couple of times and had a decent experience. But today was absolutely horrible. I ordered my usual enchiladas but I always ask for shredded cheese inside. This has never been a problem before. But today I had three different people come out and asked me about the order. When they finally brought the food out. It was the same enchiladas that were brought out 20 minutes before, and there was cheese inside them, but the cheese was not melted and the food was cold. I won't be back again. read more

Crazy story. I went here with my elderly parents. The food was excellent. The wait staff was so helpful. The crazy part was after we left, I get home and my mother calls me . She left her teeth in a napkin on the table. So I called the restaurant and ask them if by chance if they found them. No, Notta, Nothing. The manager offer to let me come and look. Well my mother has only had them for three days so being the ever so loving son , I reluctantly agreed. So grabbing rubber gloves and an apron, my girlfriend and I run out the door to beat their closing time. I was lead into a beautiful clean kitchen. I was really impressed. I've seen commercial kitchens over the years and this one was really clean, especially for one that late at night. The kitchen staff, I think took pitty on us knowing what we were about to do. But nevertheless we got down to business of removing the nights table scraps from one trash can to another, searching for my mother's prized teeth. Talk about feeling dirty! But we continued all the way. Imagine how it felt to reach the bottom without a victory dance. It was like going to a birthday party and there's no cake. So after thanking the staff and apologizing for the mess we made, we left. On the way home I decided to stop by my parents house to see if she dropped it in the driveway. No such luck either so I decided to look in her house.. was promised they were not there. She adamantly promised she had looked everywhere. I know you can see where this is going. And yes you are right. Upon walking into the kitchen I can see a clump up napkin laying on the countertop. When I opened it up, I can see the pearly white dentures my mother had received three days before. There was no happy dance. There was no singing of joy, or anything of that nature, just the look of realization that my mother had gotten me lol. So with that said. The food is alright but it's the customer service that makes me not want to come back. The place closes at 10 however when we come in at 8:45 we get rushed through out order while people are closing down the entire restaurant, sweeping and mopping right next to our table and everything. My all time, for many years now, fav Mexican restaurant in Mobile. The cheese dip is always amazing! I had a shrimp quesadilla ($5) with onions and peppers this time, as well as two soft beef tacos ($2.20 ea) - loaded with cheese. The salsa is always fresh and delicious! $2 Margaritas on many nights - beware, they're potent! ^.* I also recommend their taco salad fajita with steak or chicken - they grill the steak/chicken into strips and lather with grilled onions, peppers & white melted yummy cheese & top with fresh lettuce, guacamole, sour cream and tomatoes. I had my order delivered through Waitr. Food was hot when it arrived and it came quickly, so kudos to both El Giro and Waitr for that. Salsa was good. Chips weren't stale. Lots of fresh cilantro in the salsa and not too spicy. Thumbs up. The mixed fajitas were not the best. They were hot, but the meat was pretty dry. I ordered the mixed - chicken, steak, and shrimp. I'd stick with just chicken next time. The shrimp weren't good at all. I ordered a single portion, but it was enough for two smaller appetites to share. Plenty of peppers, onions, and tomatoes. This restaurant is our family's favorite spot! THE BEST SALSA IN TOWN! We love the cilantro and fresh onions in the salsa! The staff feels like family each and every time we visit, no matter if they are busy or slow! Our menu favorites.... everything we've tried! They are SUPER GENEROUS with the cheese so if you aren't a cheese lover- go for an item with the grilled veggies! My son's favorite is the bean dip. If you haven't had it before, this one is a sure thing. If you are going for the nachos, order the 1/2 order because the full order is HUGE! The Plato Especial is another GREAT dish if your wanting to branch out from your regular burrito or quesadilla.... it's grilled chicken over rice with grilled veggies topped with cheese sauce! I have been going to this restaurant since I was a teenager, my absolute favorite Mexican spot to go to when I am in the mood for Mexican or margaritas.. The owner & the staff are amazing, such awesome people. My daughter is half Mexican & they always tease her about not knowing Spanish, she is 18 now but still loves the banter she has with them. I usually have a certain order at every restaurant I go to, this one is nachos deluxe half order or taco salad on rare occasion. very very very fucking rude. food was good though. when the lady came and gave us our cheese dip she still hadnt asked what we wanted to drink. then, sarah asked about our drinks and the waitress straight up told her to her face that she was "busy." then she proceeded to walk away and not come back for another 10 GOSH DAMN MINUTES!!!!!!!!! when i asked for a shirley temple she looked at me like i had 8 heads. i explained to her that i wanted sprite with grenadine and cherries and she CONTINUED to act confused. i was over it and ended up asking for a sweet tea. I will say this- the salsa is pretty good- mostly because it is heavy on the cilantro, which I like; but otherwise I don't like this place at all. Both times I've been here I did not like my entrees at all; most of the time I can pick through an entree well enough to be satisfied- but not here. It's kind of hard to describe why the food is bad; poor execution? ingredients? I'm not sure. Just overall badness. It's a small place with hard wooden booths that are crammed in there that aren't that comfortable- but artfully carved I will say. They play loud mexican music with spanish-speaking djs which can be really distracting. I've heard the margaritas are good, but I've never partaken. When they crank up the daiquiri machine that gets loud too. Overall, I wouldn't want to go there again for anything other than the chips & salsa. Maybe a drink. Avoid the entrees. read more

I went to this restaurant on a Thursday night and wasn't greeted by anyone. We found a booth and sat down but had to flag down someone to bring us a menu after waiting for five minutes. After that, we waited another 10 minutes until we flagged down another waitress to bring us drinks! I thought that was very unprofessional. I ordered the tacos, mexican rice, and refried beans. The rice was the best I've had at ANY mexican restaurant but the tacos left much to be desired. The meat wasn't very flavorful at all and sort of watery. The chips were good but the salsa was too hot for my taste. Thursday nights they have $3.25 26oz margaritas served in a normal glass.
