I ordered a steak torta, and the waitress asked if I wanted it the Mexican way with a fried egg and avocado. I said yes, but was highly disappointed when the sandwich came with two hotdogs and AMERICAN cheese. It was more hotdogs than steak on my STEAK torta. The fries that came with it were all small pieces like they came from the very bottom of the bag. The food is usually good from here, but I recommend they revise their torta recipe. read more

Service was alright, the issue was the food for me. I got chicken carnitas street tacos and the meat was shockingly unseasoned. The chicken also had an off putting smell to it. Both times our server was nice but other waitresses (the white girls) give you snarky looks. I thought maybe the first time was just an off day but I guess not. Both times we were fighting flies while eating but it could be where we were seated. If you get seated to the right when you walk in beware of the smell of mildew and mold. You can actually spot some molding at the tops of walls too. The left side seems prettier and just overall the better side. The food must have been pretty good the first time but nothing to remember but this time it made me instantly nauseous after the first 2 bites of my food. This is one of our go-to spots for dinners when we don't feel like cooking. They have great margaritas, sizes ranging from small up to a big fishbowl. Food always comes out quick and hot. My favorite is the chicken quesadilla with rice and beans, but I did try the shrimp fajitas tonight. They were good, but not as good as my quesadillas. They have a great playground for the kids to play on, which honestly, is one of the biggest selling features of this place for my family. We always sit at the tables in the sunroom area that is by the playground so we can sit inside, but still see the kids playing. Tip : Vivianna is THE best server there. It doesn't look like much on the outside but when you get inside the aromas of the food and the Mexican themed interior hits, you immediately get happy. Their food is the best Mexican I ever had, the tacos are the bomb (Both in taste and presentation.) the chips are ALWAYS warm and the cheese dip is so good! The food here has always been mediocre at best & the margaritas taste more like lime gatorade than a margarita. But I've always supported this establishment because 1: it's local and 2: it's cheap. On my last trip for lunch with my daughter, I got the same dish I always do: chicken quesidilla, rice and beans. The food was about the same but our waitress didn't return not once to refill our drinks or to even check on us until it was time for us to cash out. No one offered us to go plates or to go drinks. I could typically understand this if the location was unusually busy but it was later afternoon and it wasn't. However, the deciding factor was not the mediocre food or the unimpressive service (I can always deal with that when it comes to cheap food) but the decor really upset me. I get it, we are in GOP country and in a predominately white town that worships Donald Trump but I am not one of those people. As a graduate with a business degree, I cannot for the life of me understand why you would want any of your customers to feel uncomfortable or offended or why anyone in the service industry would be willing to lose customers over political bias. Why can't they just remain neutral? THAT is good business practice. This establishment has always been pro-Trump but the new decor will have me at Azteca's from now on. read more

I ask for a small bowl for the salsa and was told it was against company policy, ask for a knife to cut my burrito was told it was not company policy but did get one. People should read a full compliment of reviews about this place before considering patronizing the business. The experience I had talking to the manager today is consistent with other "one star" reviews I'm reading. I called ahead to order food to go. After giving my order for a lunch entree and a soda, I told him that I had a coupon for an identical entree at no additional charge (from a fund-raising book the school kids are selling). He told me (in a very curt and "put out" manner) that the offer was for dine-in only, and hung up on me before I could inquire further. Other coupons in this book state "dine in only", but the majority do not, and this restaurant's coupon does not. Other information from the coupon is also misleading. If the purpose of being in the coupon book is to advertise the business/introduce more customers to the restaurant/gain a wider following, I hope they learn that treating people rudely is not going to accomplish the objective. We ate at the restaurant several years ago, and were disappointed that the closest Mexican restaurant to us didn't taste good. This coupon was a reason to give it another, more recent re-consideration. I will not make that mistake again. [ A side note - this week the Covid death rate in Alabama was the highest reported of the pandemic, the highest of any state, and 50% higher than the state that was second (Florida). Wasted my cheat meal:( Very bland- didn't seem fresh at all - just a total waste. The shells seemed stale, the rice had absolutely no flavor, the beans seemed like they were drying up as if they'd been under a heat lamp or something, the meat had NO flavor. The sauce on the "enchiladas" was like a mystery flavorless sauce. Our waitress seemed very unhappy and it was like pulling teeth to get anything. This restaurant is located on Saraland St just North of Industrial Pkwy and not far from exit 13 on I 65. It is a cute place and was about half full when we arrived at about 7 on a Tuesday. We were seated quickly and the server was there to take our drink orders before the host had left the table. I got the Burrito plate with a taco on the side. I must say that the presentation didn't wow me, but the food was really good and the prices were also really good. The service was spot on and the bathrooms were clean. The decor was kind of cheapy Mexican and oddly enough they were playing 70s disco music. When have you ever heard disco music at a Mexican restaurant. Another odd thing is you get you place setting in the form of a metal fork in a small wax paper bag. Napkins are provided by the dispenser on the table. The drinks looked good and they had some nice drink specials but we were on the road, so we passed. I will go back next time I am passing through on I65. We had 8 people go for lunch on Sunday. The waitress didn't know what enchiladas or chimichanga were much less what cilantro was that was in their spoiled country lime salsa. We work out of town eat out usually 3 meals a day and probably eat Mexican food every other day and this was the worst Mexican food I've ever eaten. A coworker and I stopped by while on assignment in Mobile. It's small, out of the way, and poorly lit/marked. All pretty standard for a Mexican place. We got a booth and ordered drinks right away. I had a frozen margarita which was heavy on the tequila, and definitely something I'd recommend. Server was great. We asked a few questions, and she was helpful with recommendations. I got a combo with a taco, a burrito, and an enchilda. Food came out in literally five minutes. Mine was great. Beef was good, lots of salsa and cheese. Would have been nice to get a side of lettuce and tomatoes, but for the price, I can't complain too much. Frozen margarita, complimentary chips with salsa, and a good sized meal for right at $10.
