The boys and I decided to try out a new place for my birthday lunch, and this is where we wound up. A part of the reason we chose this place is because they advertised Costa Rican, Indian and Mexican cuisine. The inside looks like a typical, somewhat divey Mexican restaurant with a few live plants hanging up, which I thought was a nice touch. I noticed they have an adorable outdoor patio with a lot of pretty plants too. We were promptly seated by a very friendly and attentive waitress. We looked over the menus and placed our orders. It didn't take long for our food to come out. Spencer ordered a humongous burrito, and ate every bite of it. Stanton decided on two beef enchiladas, which were $7.50 and didn't come with rice or beans. I decided to try the Tico taco platter. It was a fusion plate. The rice with beans was a Mexican style dish, the taco (which was about 3" in diameter) was Costa Rican, and the potatoes were Indian. I loved the taco. It was carne asada meat with shredded cabbage and carrots on a little (very, very little) homemade cornbread style taco shell and drizzled with a thin white sauce. They were kind enough to put the habanero sauce on the side so I could chose the amount I wanted. The sides were good, but I really wish they had a dish with like 2 or 3 of those tacos without sides. We didn't intend to order dessert, but when one of my boys mentioned it was my birthday, the sweet waitress brought out a complimentary piece of cake. That was much to the dismay of the boys, who were hoping she'd throw a pan if whipped cream in my face. The cake was soaked in milk and topped with whipped cream and sugar and cinnamon. I regret not asking what it was called because it was delicious. Our total bill was less than $40, which is pretty average for us. We will definitely go back again. I'm already craving more of the Tico tacos and that cake. read more

I am just basing this review after one dinner experience with my husband just FYI. We moved from San Diego, Ca to mobile about 6 months ago and are loving every minute here! On Saturday night I was seriously craving some Mexican food (since that's san Diego's specialty). I yelped and googled the "best" and most "authentic" Mexican restaurant in the area and we found Los Arcos. We heard it was a Springhill favorite, so decided to give it a try. We both ordered Margaritas and snacked on chips and salsa (complimentary) before our food came. The chips were decent (a lot better than store bought and warm!) but the salsa was lacking. It tasted as if it came from the jar or they used canned tomato paste to make it? So not authentic tasting. We got our food (mine a chimichanga, his a flautists combo). They looked VERY appetizing and great so we were excited to dig in! Upon first bite I was SO DISAPPOINTED. I'm used to a chimichanga being made with shredded beef NOT hamburger meat. Also the refried beans were from the can and the guacamole was store bought-- not fresh. :( I also think they used regular canola oil to deep fry and not lard, which made the tortilla get soggy. Overall it was decent enough to satisfy my craving for a week or so...lol. But remember, this review is based on the fact that I'm a native San Diegan and am a bit of a Mex food snob! read more

Don't let the name 'Mexican Restaurant' fool you. This place has some funky cool Indian and Costa Rican food you must try. I am the first to admit, I'm not a big fan of Indian food but I was feeling adventurous, and determined to try something besides the standard boring Mexican food. Tandoori Taco platter was ordered by at least 4 of us in our large group, and we all loved it. Crazy flavor combinations that won me over quick. The potato and bean sides were just OK - sort of bland. But who cares when the tandoori chicken was so yum. Others in our group had the tico taco platter and tico tamales. Both said they enjoyed their food. It's always fun to try something different, right? Sangria and margaritas were delicious, as a matter o'fact I think our bar bill might have been as much as the food bill! And let me just say something about the owner. I called ahead to see if they accomodate our group of 18+ on a Saturday night. We arrived early and the tables were set up and even decorated with festive stuff. I was pleasantly surprised. The owner came to check on us a few times and to ask what we ordered and how we liked it. That says a lot, Yelpers! Give this place a try. I'll be back! read more

I don't know what has happened here, whether it is management or just the kitchen staff, but the quality here has taken a serious nosedive! The flavor is lacking in almost every dish and the attitude of the person taking the orders and payment is lackluster to say the least. Our office has been getting lunch from them for more than a decade and we have rarely had a complaint, but lately that is not the case. Botched orders, cold food and sparse helpings (that used to be bigger) have made us decide to take them off of our list, probably for good. read more

Ate here for lunch yesterday. The staff was very friendly and attentive! We were seated promptly and I was very impressed with the large variety of lunch specials. The vegetarian quesadillas were great for such a cheap price. The salsa and pineapple fajitas were also excellent. This place is no longer Los Arcos. New owner bought the restaurant and it's now called El Agave. My parents and I loved the food and service. I had the enchiladas verdes and they are delicious! Coffee is so good too! Prices are reasonable and will definitely be back for more, good luck for the new owner Guillermo. read more

I was planning on eating Indian food but the place was closed so we decided on Mexican but little did I know I was still going to get Indian food. First time ever having fusion food and it was great. Great choice if you like Mexican or Indian food and a must eat place if you are tired of boring food. The managers (owners?) were very nice, as was the wait staff. I will be going again and again. Edit: I went again and had different "fusion" items, the ceviche and my dad had the paella. The fish in the ceviche was tough and the paella wasn't really paella but was tasty. Both meals were disappointing but the ceviche was barely edible. I haven't had their Mexican menu so that could be great and the manager was very nice about us being disappointed and gave us a free desert. I will go again but it moved down my list. read more

We decided to give it a shot after buying a bike at the shop next door. We were seated quickly and asked our server what he recommended. His response was that he "didn't really know because he had never eaten there". I went the Indian route and unfortunately cannot remember what I ordered..that is due in part to the server spilling an entire bowl of sauce in my lap. Aside from the most cliché restaurant accident on earth happening, my food was unremarkable... likely another reason I cannot recall what I ate. My family enjoyed the Mexican food although you should understand that my family is about as Hispanic as the Swiss Family Robinson. Granted Los Arcos is off the beaten path of your Americanized Mexican restaurants but it's worth the drive to get away from the Taco Bell type of food. They serve Indian,Spanish,Costa Rican and yes Mexican food. If you're timmed try their pulled beef or diced chicken tacos wrapped in a soft shell...delish!! The owners,Shah (husband) or Rocio (wife) will gladly explain the different dishes that are available if you have any questions. I went back for my second trip last night and was not disappointed,I did the Costa Rican route. My next trip will be to try their Indian food but will have them cut back on the hot stuff as I'm not a fan of overly spicy food and Indian can be rather spicy. Ate there today for lunch. With the 4 stars reviews & I'm unsure of how. The salsa was settled in the bottle in the fridge for a bit. We had to get a knife to get the salsa out (video). My cousin got the beef enchilada. Said it tasted okay. His ground beef tasted like old & bad quality. I ordered steak fajitas. It came with 6 pieces of steak piled with green bell peppers. That's 2 small pieces of meat per tortilla.. I even asked the server if that was all the meat it came with and she responded with "yeaah...." didn't offer anything else to try to fix the apparent issue. The steak wasn't seasoned at all & the quality wasn't good. Tasted old, also. Didn't come with lettuce, guac, & the other small condiments like other places. Definitely won't be back. read more

In an attempt to try a new restaurant in Mobile, my friend and I stumbled upon Los Arcos near USA's campus. I was a little hesitant about the fusion menu, but ordered the empanada appetizer. It was fantastic! A very authentic picadillo filling served with a habanero-based dipping sauce. The platter came with sides of curried potatoes (surprisingly delicious), Costa Rican-style black beans and rice (yummy), and a cole slaw of unknown origin (not my favorite). My friend enjoyed her massive plate of nachos and we both very much enjoyed the sangria. I would definitely suggest giving Los Arcos a try if you are looking for a unique dining experience with good service and food. read more

Los Arcos is one of those restaurants that I can only comment on 1 dish but that 1 dish is the best I've had in any Mexican joint in Mobile. Los Arcos is the must go place in Mobile for fish tacos! Everyone else in town has their version that taste like Gorten's fish sticks in a taco. Arcos uses fresh fish with actually beer batter. So good! This Costa Rican / Indian fusion restaurant will knock you over with flavors and combinations that you've never had but now can't live without. When I moved from the Bay Area to Mobile, Alabama I wondered whether I would find as many interesting restaurants. I didn't. But those I found down here are worth seeking out. Los Arcos is at the top of my list of wonderful new finds. I especially recommend the Tandoori Taco and the Costa Rican Tamale. read more

I swear this is the best Mexican restaurant in Alabama!! I am a vegetarian, and the menu has a large vegetarian menu which is hard to find, especially in the south. The queso, salsa, and guacamole are excellent. The portions you get are huge! I had to take a to-go box. The prices are very reasonable, and their happy hour is the best! My server Chelsea was fantastic! I will definitely eat here any chance I get. I am looking forward to trying more menu items! I really hope the owner will open more restaurants, everyone needs to give this awesome place a try! 10/10! read more

I'm afraid this place isn't what it used to be. I really don't like how they have about 10 servers and employees just sitting around in the corner booth waiting on tables. It's really unprofessional especially with most of them on their phones and screwing around. There is one female server who's been there for a while - I believe she is from Europe - who is really great. Very attentive and friendly. Also the food has gone down hill. It's like this fusion stuff has taken away from the Mexican dishes. To sum up my review: Get back to basics and drop the fusion meals. This place is awesome! We came in there with a big hungry group and the accommodated us extremely well. Lots of refills on chips and salsa. The salsa is fresh and tasty. I ordered the fajitas y mas and split it with a friend. I usually don't like mixing my meats. Shrimp, chicken, beef and chorizo. Been here 2 or 3 times and wasn't impressed either visit. Service was very fast--almost too fast. Like, I-just-took-your-order-threw-it-in-the-microwave-for-3-minutes-and-served-it-to-you fast. Didn't taste fresh or authentic. I believe this place used to be strictly Mexican, then the they tried a few other routes to gain different crowds and excused it by using the "fusion" title. The fusion menu is hit and miss. The Somosa was excellent and very light and crispy. While the tiki masala taco was overladen with onion and chimichurra. The meat seamed to have a boiled texture and seemed to have had most of the yogurt marinade boiled off. After moving to Texas 18 months ago, one of the first restaurants I started to miss was Los Arcos. Sure, I can get Mexican food in TX. Same goes for Indian food. But Mexican AND Indian/Costa Rican fusion all in one place? That is quite unique! My absolute favorite is the Tandoori Taco Platter. A wonderful combination of flavors on a large flatbread. I've never managed to actually eat one as a taco, though. The Indian style potatoes and Costa Rican rice and beans are great sides as well. read more

Took a friend there for dinner last wknd thinking wanted Mexican food/hadn't had any in over a year.... This was by far the worst possible excuse for Mexican food that I have ever eaten in my entire lifetime in Mobile. Middle East doesn't know how to cook a good Mexican foods. It was so bad that I was so embarrassed that I should've gotten up and walked out on it.
