Probably the worst dining experience ever. Went there for dinner with four people. They brought out my meal, and then never brought out the rest of our order! We waited for over an hour for the rest of the food, and I had to share my stone cold food with everyone. Our friends finally had to cancel their meals because it got so late they had to leave. This would all be ok, but then the manager was actually rude about it and refused to even take anything off the bill (other than the food which my friends never got and cancelled) including my meal that got stone cold while we waited for the other food. The waiter walked by a few times and went to check on the other meals but didn't come back with any update and never even offered to bring warm tortillas or heat up my meal. Then the manager was not apologetic at all and offered no solution except that he didn't charge the people for the food they cancelled. Worst service, worst management, and absolutely horrible customer service. There are so many better restaurants in Vail with owners who are class acts and people who actually care about their customers. Don't waste your time or money on this one. read more

We went for drinks and to see a band. A waiter immediately told us we would not be served if we sat at a table, and had to come up to the bar to order drinks. Ok. Then for the next hour we saw people at other tables being served by waiters. The margaritas were strong but not very good. It's a small venue to see a bar band, but there are not a ton of similar options in Avon. It's a young crown - mostly 20-somethings. The guys standing behind us were cursing loudly and graphically, and the smell of pot was in the air. So it's ok, and others there seemed to be having fun. Two years ago my husband and I were in Vail Valley and stopped to eat on the patio at Agave. The experience then was good. This time around it was a chilly evening so we ate inside. Because the restaurant doubles as a music venue they have a cramped table layout which creates an abnormally loud environment. In addition, many of their lights are meant to showcase musicians on stage, putting off a lot of heat. The staff was moderately attentive. The chips and salsa provided had a hair in them - okay, so they're free. Both of our draft beers were semi-cold. Once the burritos arrived, they turned out to be pretty decent - the only reason I'm giving them 2 stars instead of one. Next time we're in town, we'll look for alternatives. read more

We were visiting from out of town and happened to go on a Tuesday for their taco specials. The only good thing from that night was $2 bud light drafts after 9pm. Service was terrible.. We got seated in a corner, was brought the wrong side dishes, and felt rushed the entire time. While we still had our plates with food on the table, we got asked to pay the check and move tables due to the live band setting up. Food overall was eh, okay. However, service was AWFUL. I love this place! I met up with one of my best friends from college for some skiing in Beaver Creek and we just loved Agave. Its located right across the street from where we would catch the shuttle to/from Beaver Creek (the "bear lot"). I loved the grilled mahi tacos (on their fresh flour tortillas!) so much that I had them twice, despite all of the other temptations on the menu! (I'll save those for the next trip). My friend couldn't stop raving about the ceviche Caesar salad. We managed to catch two live shows at Agave during our relatively short trip. One was a jazzy hip hop and the other was more straight-up rock - we had a great time dancing to both! I'm afraid I lost count of how many delicious prickly pear margaritas we consumed :) Overall, I highly recommend Agave whether you want dinner after hitting the slopes or you want to catch a show and spend the night on the dance floor! Exceeded expectations in every way. Was in Arrowhead to celebrate my parents' wedding anniversary. We decided to do take-out but when when got to the restaurant it was so tastefully decorated and inviting we almost changed our mind. Placed order with friendly manager and it was ready in 10 minutes (it was about 5:15pm...so not crowded yet.) The food was DIVINE. Homemade tortillas, fresh guacamole, more flavor than most every Mexican restaurant these days (which seems to have become generic, big batch and boring). And we were greeted by a nice size container of the freshest homemade salsa and generous bag of chips. Someone at the bar told us the margaritas were really something special so next time we are in town, we will eat in and enjoy a margarita. Great deals on tacos on Tuesdays and they have a happy hour. Used to love coming here in our past trips to Vail. The food was amazing, cocktails were dialed in, and the service was efficient and friendly. In our recent outing to Agave for lunch, the food wasn't as savory or as fresh as previous trips. The burrito was good, but nothing special. Rice inside seemed like it could have been a bit undercooked. Meat was okay, but not as savory or fresh as previous visits. My fiance might have gotten a bit sick from the Chile Relleno which was covered in an odd brown sauce that can only be described as "fatty" and "flavorless". Cocktails were still good, but seemed to be missing something making them taste a bit flat. I always order the Coconut Margarita and I remembered it being a bit more thick and coconutty. The recent version tasted watered down and the glass was full of ice. It still had the delicious sugar coated coconut shavings in it, but wasn't the milky opaque color I remembered. Much clearer. The service and wait staff seem to all be ski bums who may have smoked a bit too much before their service. When asking if we could substitute Rum for Tequila (due to an allergy) our waiter said, "I don't know." And then stood there staring at us like we should do something with soft smile on his face. I finally said, "Could you go check with the bartender?" and he replied, "Oh, yeah!" and hopped off to go check. I was wondering if he'd remember to come back and finish taking the rest of our order or if we'd lost him for good. He did finally come back but I think we had to start our order over again for him. I haven't been during the dinner service, but if the lunch is any indication, it's got a bit of tuning to go through before it's back to where it was before. It could also be that the lunch service isn't something they're interested in investing good wait staff or cooks on so maybe the dinner services are still dialed in. read more

I have been to Agave a few times over the last few years, and I say it is a solid mexican restaurant and not a bad choice. Located off of Hwy 6 between beaver creek and arrowhead ski resorts. Pluses I have noticed: Nice big margaritas (with options) Solid food often large portions Not bad prices Good service I have always had a good experience at Agave. Is it amazing? No. Is it good option in this area? Most definitely. They do have live music often later in the evening during the ski season. Everytime I visit my sister in Avon, Colorado we always come here for margaritas (they're served in giant margarita glasses) and food. The manager here is super sweet and accommodating. The margaritas were good - very generous portions and the food was delicious. The burrito is massive - it will definitely fill you up! I highly recommend Agave for some great Mexican food. Great food and cocktails. Try their house margaritas in the huge stem glass. Tuesday is $1.50 taco night, they are fantastic. I suppose it works for the owner because he fills the place and sells margs. The standard menu features authentic Cali-Mex (not TexMex), a delightful deviation from typical. The Mexican food here is GREAT! Friendly staff, excellent selections, dining inside or outside. Agave has a TACO special on Tuesday night which we avoid because it's packed and crazy...but if that's your cup of tea...try Tuesday night. Their salsa is medium to mild, and the guac is fabulous. Extremely disappointed! This used to be one of our favorite places to eat but unfortunately the service has dramatically declined over the past several visits. The food remains solid but the overall service was terrible. The waiting staff was rude and they couldn't seem to get our order right. We started off with Queso as an appetizer. It took 4 attempts for us to receive the chips that went with the queso. By the time the chips came the queso was cold. Decent, but nothing special. I ordered the queso fundido and chicken enchiladas. Unless you like a greasy block of melted cheese, skip the queso fundido. It's not worth the cost and comes with greasy tortillas that can't even hold the cheese. It's very awkward to even try to eat until it cools and solidifies. The chicken enchiladas were good, but basic and again nothing special. I wish I wouldn't have wasted my money there. The house margarita was a good deal. read more

My 3 experiences at agave haven't been the best. Service is always very slow, food is subpar and the staff has never been very friendly. The last time i visited Agave we had 3 different people trying to serve us. I'm not sure if it's because they were shorthanded or what but it took about two hours to get an appetizer and two beers. We went early for lunch because we had a toddler with us. We sat on the empty patio because it was dark and hot inside. Nice to be outside but we both thought the patio was very dirty. Waitress very nice. Beef Taquitos very good. Cheese enchilada was cheesy but the sauce had no taste. From the service to the food Agave provided a first class experience. The food was amazing, traditional Mexican with flavors that melt in your mouth. We loved that it was so close to Beaver Creek too, we walked across the street from the Bear lot, were greeted immediately and settled at a wonderful table that fit our group of ski weary travelers. The warm tortillas, fresh chips and homemade salsa were on our table before we could pull our jackets off! Then came calamari that was to die for! Now the food is disgusting - the special "kale salad with summer squash and Mexican cactus" came out with iceberg lettuce only, a measely zucchini strand and they wanted to charge $18!
