The old-school street lamps are a nice touch as candles that adorn the bar, but the bar crowd hasn't changed since the nineteenth century. Lads rambling about as their drinks get the best of them, lonely working women who just need a place to sit and men who think that their polo shirts are considered "dressy". I truly enjoyed dining at AG; I especially loved the dining on the veranda to take in the busy streets of Downtown Atlanta. Our server Phillip was quite knowledgeable, pleasant and professional. He recommended the fried green tomatoes in which definitely fulfilled the fried southern food. Phillip also suggested the salmon as well in which I knew I was getting in a steak house since I'm not much of a steak eater. I went lighter on dinner and enjoyed the salmon in which the textures (seared crispy skin) and taste were delectable and satisfying to my palate and enjoyed a nice French Rosé. Solid steakhouse on the second level of the Ritz Carlton. There's a nice masculine feel of classic meat palace wood décor without feeling too heavy. The colorful art installations add to the appeal. There's a long bar where you can slip in to grab a meal on the spur of the moment. I had the scallop appetizer--the scallops were perfectly cooked and caramelized but the accompanying cauliflower, bacon, and leek sauce was too salty overall. The NY Strip (pretty reasonably priced at $38 considering the location) was a success, with a perfect cut of beef simply grilled exactly to temperature. The side of roasted Brussels sprouts with the maple-bourbon glaze was delicious, though the sprouts on the very bottom of the dish got a touch too soggy when the glaze settled. Overall, this is a fine choice in an elegant but comfortable and approachable environment. read more

Oh.my.goodness!!!! The seating is great! On a nice summer evening, with a breeze it is wonderful. The breadbasket with cornbread etc??? Amazing. I could eat just that! But the topper????!!!!!! They fixed the soup issue. The soup is thinner and creamy goodness with large chunks of crab that initially made us fans. It had a nice little heat to it also. I'm not sure if they just had a bad batch that week, but I was pleased this go around. read more

Atlanta tourist trap? I don't get the outstanding positive reviews. Sound a little over the top ;) I work close by and have been here numerous times over the years, so this isn't a one off. Not once have I received decent service. Lunch, dinner? Doesn't matter. Service has always been horrible. It's slow and bad despite it being dead every time I've been there and a guy in a suit acting like he's watching what's going on. I've only gone back because business partners want to go there. I'll strongly advise against next time. Recently, we sat on the terrace and waited 20 mins to be greeted. Servers were sometimes coming around to help other guests and acted like they didn't see us despite me waving my arms and asking for help. Their express lunch menu is a joke. $21 for a tiny amount of food that isn't adequately represented. Had a business meeting today and felt the need to finally post to warn others. 10mins to get greeted and 30 to actually order and the food has a bunch of "extra toppings" not noted on the menu. I didn't dare send it back as I didn't have time to wait on the waiter to actually come by and ask how everything was (which never happened btw). Got tea refills after glasses were empty for 20 mins. Just poor. Ritz should be embarrassed this place is associated with their hotel. read more

We had a reservation for a Sunday night. We had to wait about 10 minutes to be seated. We opened with the steak tartare which was awesome. I had the she crab soup which came in this really unique bowl. The soup was wonderful and I would come back for that! My filet was cooked perfectly. It was a beautiful piece of meat and needed no sauces, companions, etc. The wine list was on an iPad and while it was extensive, our waitress was not well versed in the offerings. Plus, we all struggled with the iPad. Maybe I'm just old now. I don't know. I did really like the wine we stumbled onto though! It's a bit pretentious, but also nice to pick out your own steak knife! read more

Terrific in-house steakhouse at the downtown Ritz-Carlton. Great service, perfect steaks, sides appropriate accompaniment. Craft cocktails with great presentation- try the smoky old fashioned with the rock glass done table side. It was served over a large single cube of crystal clear ice without an internal flaw - no bubbles no opacities no haze in the middle - a diamond merchant would have been impressed. Went here on a weekend. The restaurant is located at the second floor of the Ritz-Carlton just off Peachtree Street in downtown Atlanta. Quite a classy location. The restaurant is joint with a bar and there is a band playing in the corner. You can have both inside seating or outside with a view of the action on Peachtree Street. We decided to go with inside seating. In the summer it can be hot and muggy outside and the traffic on peachtree on a saturday night can be excessive. Not sure how exhaust mixes with good food. Being associated with Ritz-Carlton you have certain expectations as to service and standards. The serve is very good and we were quite pleased. We had a good bottle of wine (Shiraz) and both of us ordered steak medium rare. I have a side potato and my partner had mac and cheese. The steak were not made to order. One was over cooked and the other one was very rare (they walked it by the stove). We sent back one of them are a replacement. If you are a steak house, you need to have chefs that know how to grill meat! So not that impressed by the kitchen. It was a slow night, apparently most of their business is on week days with business people in town. So there is really no excuse for not cooking meat to temperature. So great service, interesting ambience but mediocre food. There are quite a few options in downtown, so not sure we are coming back. read more

It tasted like the orange flavored cinnamon rolls nobody likes. Patio seating was nice but the food was expensive, and just so so. So, I was on an expense account dinner but was totally underwhelmed by the food here. My salad (greens with pecans and dried cranberries) was overdressed. And, the filet was ordered medium but came more well-done and was tiny with no sides. The menu said it came with some crab and asparagus but it was all piled on tip of the tiny filet (about half the size of my palm). Not horrible but just not great for $50. Back to the patio seating -- this was almost worth the price. Just the people and car watching was fun. Crazy cars and motorcycles blasting all varieties of music and a parade of people on the sidewalks. There was actually a bride and groom taking wedding photos in the middle of Peachtree Place Road. Nice atmosphere. Really good service. The Caesar salad I had was not that great. On the other hand, the steak I had was amazing. Seriously. Cooked just as I requested. I had the red wine reduction sauce with it and it was good. The wine here is kinda expensive, and you don't get a lot in each glass. So overall the food is good for the most part, but a bit pricey. I expect everything to be excellent if I'm paying over $100 just for me for a meal. I would eat here again, but would get a different salad, and ask for a better pour on the wine Oh one more thing, there's no tv in the bar. Normally not an issue, but I went there during March Madness. I would have stayed longer if I could have watched the game. Just sayin'.... read more

I realize that the Atlanta Grill at the Ritz Carlton in downtown Atlanta, now known as AG, has mixed reviews. However, I would be remiss if I did not take the whole package into consideration. In fact, if I was simply reviewing the food, I would still give the restaurant 4 stars. However along with the impeccable service, the attention to detail, the beautiful setting, and how accommodating everyone is to guests of all ages, I have to give this restaurant 5 stars. I've had the pleasure of dining here multiple times. But the last two times are the ones that really stick out to me. The second to last time I was here was at Christmas. My family which included my wife and me as well as our three children were looking for a restaurant that would be open on the holiday evening. We were able to quickly make a reservation at AG and were pleasantly surprised and satisfied with how warm and receiving they were. We enjoyed all our courses. The kids' menu was quite extensive and not "dumbed down" for children. For instance, the grilled sirloin steak on the kids menu would probably consider a quality steak almost anywhere you order it. They have many other options for children such as cheeseburgers, pizzas, mac & cheese, chicken tenders, along with sides such as salads, vegetables, fries, etc. In fact, the kids' cheeseburger was a lot better than a grown-up cheeseburger at any fast casual restaurant. The adult menu is where the restaurant really shines. Great steaks, seafood, raw and hot items. Very delicious and served with a lot of care and great attention. The complimentary cheddar and chive biscuits are an awesome bread service. Very addictive! Finally, highly recommend the desserts here. I invited some business owners to brunch on Saturday, December 9th. My husband and I love coming here for Sunday morning breakfast, so I thought my business-besties would enjoy it too. They'd never been to AG and initially they loved the location, covered valet parking and it's beautiful ambiance and decor. I was completely embarrassed when: 1) Our waitress was inattentive. Two of us ordered tea, yet she never came back to refill our hot water, nor did she even ask. My colleague set-up a tripod and our waitress continued to reach in front of our live video, even though our table was a middle table and she could have easily avoided the camera altogether. Besides refiling our water, she never connected with us again. She never offered us more beverages, dessert, anything. 2) All three of us ordered different omelettes, but each one of them were overcooked and dry. My guests complained about the food. 3) When retrieving our vehicles downstairs, they were unable to locate the cars keys of one of my guests!!! We waited with her for 40 minutes as they COULD NOT find her car keys! Which made her late to her next appointment. As this meeting was important on so many levels, I was completely embarrassed as our experience certainly did not make a good impression. I can only hope that this experience does not damage any possible future collaborations with these very important women and their businesses. As a result, I WILL NOT be inviting anyone else to AG. read more

Great local brew, try the IPA. Flawless cornbread, light and savory. Crab cakes made with large pieces of authentic blue crab meat delivered fresh daily. Scallop entree delivered, cooked perfectly. I really wanted to like this place because the interior is beautiful, there is a terrace, and the service is warm. However, this restaurant simply overcharges for the level of the dishes that are offered, and that's the reason its rating was reduced to 3 stars. While any restaurant located inside a Ritz Carlton can hardly be expected to offer value per se, it seems a bit excessive to charge their prices when the dishes come with no sides and extremely basic presentation and arrangement. The filet mignon was decent and tasted good, but if the waiter had not wisely thrown in a red wine sauce, I would have been unimpressed with the actual eating part of the experience given the charge. read more

So consistently mediocre, that I find it hard to believe that Atlanta Grill is in a Ritz Carlton. The food is solidly okay, but lacks that "wow" factor you'd expect with the location and with the price tag. I've been here for a variety of business lunches, and usually stick with a salad of some kind. Nice things first, they perfectly cook the salmon and the salads are impeccably dressed - no dressing on the side is needed as each leaf is perfectly and lightly coated. Other than that, it's a solid "meh." Even their bread basket is less than remarkable. Red Lobster outdoes them on the cheddar biscuits, and even our server couldn't find anything nice to say about their ciabatta, calling it "plain white bread." The interior here is also less than exciting and is starting to look dated and faded, with wrinkled tablecloths and booths straight out of "Matlock." While the service is certainly attentive, it's attentive in an awkward rather than suave way. Though the validated valet is a nice touch, they never have enough people working, so expect a long wait to both pass of your keys when you arrive and again when you pick up your vehicle. When I'm paying $27 for a one-course lunch, I expect more. read more

The Atlanta Grill is not somewhere I would go by choice -- a stuffy restaurant at the Rtiz has never really done it for me. But in an effort to make my clients feel comfortable, we came here for dinner on a Tuesday night. When we arrived around 7:30, the place was dead. Literally three other parties were seated throughout the restaurant, and two men were at the bar. Despite my perception that business was slow mid-week, the hostess sighed loudly when I said I forgot to make a reservation, and made a big show of flipping through a book to "find" us a table. She then proceeded to take down my information and input it into their computer system: name, number in party -- pretty typical stuff -- then wanted my address (what the hell?). She printed all this information on a receipt-sized paper, and handed it to someone else who took us to a lonely table in the bowels of the restaurant. I should note that I never saw another party enter the restaurant while we were there. We ordered some drinks -- I got a peach martini which tasted like it was 75% vermouth. The second try wasn't much better. Thankfully the food and service from here on out was fine -- tried a fish special and my clients had steaks -- we were pleased all around. But that initial encounter with the host staff, our miserable table far from any other humans, and the first round of drinks put a bad taste in my mouth (literally) that I haven't really been able to get over. read more

My boyfriend and I dined here last December for our one-year anniversary. Among all the restaurants in the area, we chose to dine at Atlanta Grill simply because we stayed at the Ritz-Carlton hotel that night (Convenient much?) We made a reservation from our room - for a time that was only 15 minutes away - and just went down. The seating hostess greeted us by our name (I still don't really know how she recognized us..) and promptly seated us. Our waiter provided helpful and professional service, but not a friendly one. Perhaps he was sick and jealous of our PDA? I don't know what was eating him, but we ordered Salmon and a filet of Kobe beef. I was feeling not-so-hot about my salmon, but I was deeply in love with the Kobe beef dish. Served with a fine piece of foie gras, the Kobe beef blew me away. Many know that Kobe beef is the cream of the crop, but oh man, this was too good to be true. This tender beef literally melted in my mouth! The chef really knew how to prepare this precious meat to perfection. I would recommend this dish to anyone; this is a must-have! Yes, it is a bit more expensive than other dishes, but it's worth every penny. Judging by their chic and fancy interior, this place could easily be an ideal business meeting place. (Bald or gray-haired guys in full-suits with their juicy steaks.. go figure). Yet, the live jazz band and candle by the table suggests this restaurant to be more romantic. Hence great for every occasion! But I really wouldn't recommend bringing your kids here unless they appreciate a fine cut of filet mignon. Same goes to vegetarians. This place is your typical "grill," also known as "steakhouse." If you eat seafood, then you should be okay, but keep in mind that their specialty is meat. read more

When I was thinking of having dinner at the Ritz, I am picturing an ultra glamorous layout and patrons dressed to the nines. What do you really get here? Being surrounded by People in jhorts (jeans+shorts) and sandals and tshirts at a place that could be mistaken for any other forgettable steakhouse. How disappointing! YOU are the RITZ friggin CARLTON. Have some respect for yourself and the people who bothered to spend the money and dress up to dine here and IN FORCE a friggin DRESS CODE. If you don't want to get dressed up for dinner, take your azz to ANY OTHER restaurant in Atlanta - we have a ton of them. Food. Holy sh*t what a waste of money. We went during restaurant week, so I was anticipating a small portion, but I was also expecting the best because this is the RITZ friggin CARLTON. My boyfriend is from NY and has had some good steaks. His steak was tough and not enjoyable. I had the seafood, which, granted, was fresh, but seasonings were not palatable. Service. Service was professional, but I wouldn't call our waiter 'pleasant'. He wasn't rude, just not personable at all. Bottom Line. This is not your usual hotel restaurant. This is the Atlanta Grill at The Ritz Carlton. I had dined at this place once before for lunch and really just considered it just a place to get a good salad. But once you have dinner there you think of it as an excellent place to have a special date. The low ambient noise, soft music, and excellent service that is available at a moment's notice, yet is not intrusive, make this restaurant a perfect date night location. Add in to the fact that the FOOD is OUT OF THIS WORLD make it even more special. We both had steaks that were cooked to perfect. Shared a large portion of vegetables, and started off with one of the best cheese plates in Atlanta. All of this good food and service comes at a price so make sure you bring your American Express! This would have been a four star review, but I'm taking off a star for miscommunications. I tried to reserve the private room for a breakfast meeting, went through several phone conversations, several fax attempts and sent in my credit card authorization. And when I showed up for my meeting? We were in the regular room and no one seemed to have any idea that I was supposed to be in the private room. Grr. However the restaurant is lovely (real flickering gas lamps!!!!) and the breakfast buffet was excellent and the perfect solution for my meeting needs. There is the standard spread, plus an omelette chef, and CHEESE (Brie and goat it looked like - that's right, I did not have cheese for breakfast. For a change.), bonus. It was truly a great experience. The AG at the Ritz Carlton has been one of the best places I've ever eaten. The people there are very friendly and the environment was great too. Our server was Vangail (I believe that's how it's spelled), he made the dining experience very memorable and enjoyable. I ordered the New York strip medium rare, it was arguably the best steak I've had and far exceeded expectations. My father ordered the special which was 7oz of a New York strip, with scallops, and a side of asparagus and he too said the food was very good. I had the peach cobbler and my father had a peach mousse dessert, both were amazing. If you ever come to Atlanta I highly recommend that you visit the AG at the Ritz Carlton, and ask for Vangail. Came here with my husbands parents after picking them up from their CNN tour. We had originally planned on having an afternoon drink at the Sundial as they were in town visiting and I heard the view was worth it. After finding out the Sundial bar didn't open until 5pm and they had already stop their lunch seating (it was 2pm) we ventured out to find somewhere else for a relaxing drink and a snack. In order to avoid the Hard Rock Cafe and Hooters (chains that are available anywhere and neither are quite our scene) we oped for the Atlanta Grill. Considering it was located inside the Ritz-Carlton we figured it would be a safe choice. Wrong. We saw they had a lovely outdoor area/balcony and asked to sit outside and were told that we couldn't. Even though the tables and chairs were out and the balcony doors were open! It was a gorgeous fall day and we were really hoping to enjoy some of it with a drink, but they wernt willing to offer service on the patio. Which, I could understand if they had packed away their patio seating for the winter or something, but there it sat, available for us to sit at; but still we were told no. And when asked, no one could really give us a reason why other than "no". Im guessing it was because they didnt want to have to service the outside in addition to the other parties seated inside (which was a whopping 2). Then, once seated, when we informed the waitress that we were just planning on having a drink and a snack she seemed incredibly irritated. Even though it was a little after 2pm and there were only 2 other parties in the entire restaurant (one at the bar, another at a table). She went from being friendly to very short and snippy with us and made it very clear by her demeanor that she wasnt happy we weren't ordering more than a few items. The food was okay (my mother in law and I each had a bowl of tomato soup and my father in law had a bowl of gumbo in addition to 2 glasses of prosecco and a beer) but the service, overall, was pretty terrible. My colleagues and I were traversing the city of Atlanta looking a place to eat - needless to say, we were surprised by the lack of restaurants in our area so we had to walk a far distance before we arrived at Atlanta Grill, the first place that we came across. The entryway is adorned with a variety of awards so we thought that we had stumbled upon a good spot. The place was packed, which was pretty amazing for a Monday night and required a reservation. Even though we did not have a reservation, the host quickly found us a table which was in the back room, "the library" as it was called, which was beautiful. Hands down, the customer service was outstanding, thanks to the efficient host and our charming waiter but I was not terribly impressed with the quality of the food or the variety on the menu. I was pleased with my five onion soup but my crab cake fell flat. Instead of the flavors harmonizing, they clashed which made it difficult to swallow. My wine was good but terribly overpriced. First I am kind of puzzled why this has a category of Southern.....Not sure if they have changed their menu or focus or what, but I would have to say that Atlanta Grill menu is more focused on steak....and it certainly shows!!! This place is very classy. It is on the second floor of the Ritz-Carlton Hotel overlooking world famous Peachtree Street in beautiful Downtown Atlanta. From the moment your car is taken care of by a valet you realize that you are in for a special treat. (By the way Dinner includes 3 hours of free valet parking) We started out with shrimp cocktail for an appetizer. Without a doubt the shrimp were the largest shrimp I have ever seen served for shrimp cocktails. It was served on a bed of ice with two sauces. My wife ordered the Filet Mignon topped with lump crab meat and portabello mushroom in a Bearnaise Sauce and I opted for swordfish with chopped shallots, cilantro peppers and sweet potato. The steak was most excellent with large chunks of crap meat on top. The fish was also very good, but I will admit her choice was my favorite.. All in all the meal and service from our waiter Arnold was impeccable. What more would you expect from a restaurant at the Ritz. read more

I'm so disgusted with this restaurant. 8 of us dined at the Ritz during the NACF conference on 10/10. Things started well but quickly fell apart. The food was decent, but the wait was so incredibly long, that the manager brought us a bottle of wine. Even he recognized the wait was unusual for our entrees. I could understand if the restaurant was busy, but it was 9:30 PM and not very busy. The things that upset me the most, was what I found on my credit card statement today. Even with horrible service, they added a 20% gratuity to the total bill. He told us when he delivered the bill, so that wasn't a surprise. What was a surprise was the additional $10 he added to my signed credit card receipt. Are you kidding me? I haven't asked the other seven in my party if they had additional gratuity added to their credit card statements as well. That shady practice is reason to stay away from this place. read more

Very romantic, intimate atmosphere. Although the restaurant itself is huge, the dim lighting, good service, and layout of the restaurant makes everything feel cozy and intimate. The service was great, and the waiter was more than attentive to our diminishing bread tray or our withering ice teas. For food, the foie gras was excellent, although couldn't really compare to the foie gras of Montreal (where I visit often, given that I live in New England). I had the scallops, which were seared to perfection. Being a New England seafood snot, I must say that the scallops were some of the best scallops I've ever had (and I eat scallops at least every other week in New England). Granted, we did go to AG on a quiet Wed night, so it might explain the quality of the service and yummy food. Even though this is in the Ritz, the restaurant is not pretentious at all. Would highly recommend stopping by for a quick drink, dinner, or dessert. read more

The bar: Great bar atmosphere: upscale, wood, not too light, pleanty of space without feeling empty. Great selection of everything from bourbon to scitch to beer to vino. The restaurant: also nice atmosphere as it is contiguos to the bar. The service started out stellar as the sommellier dropped by my table to introduce himself. The service dropped off when the server tried to oversell us on every freaking course. He finally backed off a little after I offered him a taste of our wine. Extremely expensive wine list. Food was served with great presentation but my ribeye was a very poor cut. Lots of unedible grisel, but cooked very well. read more
