I was pleasantly surprised to find this new ramen house, and even more so when my food arrived. But before we get to that, I wanted to touch on the environment of this restaurant. Particularly I enjoyed having the open kitchen, the wood touches with a classical feel meshed in with this modern dining experience. The restaurant was clean and the noise level was appropriate, as you can hear yourself think while you enjoy your company and your meal. I ordered the hazelnut broth option, and I was impressed with the thick, rich and flavourful broth when I took my first sip, and this continued until I slurped my last spoonful. The noodles were a new experience for me, I never had them really absorb all of this delicious flavourful broth while maintaining the wit texture. The mushroom and nuts really completed this hardy bowl of ramen. The service was excellent, the staff were knowledgeable, and the food arrived so fast, it's the perfect place to go when your hungry and need something fresh ASAP! I was such a happy customer when I left, so I had to get some take out to continue to enjoy this experience when I got home, so I ordered some Japanese fried chicken and rice. The decor is very clean and bright and servers were nice but some were just standing there when bringing guests to their table. The process could went more smoothly if they are more attentive. I ordered the Yuzu tsukemen and the pork dumpling. The broth does have a strong Yuzu taste to make it refreshing. I liked it but I think there are better options. Spacious for a Japanese restaurant. I tried the yuzu spicy ramen as suggested by my colleague, but I don't really like the combination. I would probably just try pork ramen if I go back in the future. It did have an unique flavour if you like citrus flavour. I had the yuzu cheesecake at the end as well, but it didn't really have cheese taste to it and I think it could taste the fridge which wasn't pleasant. Another colleague of mine got the matcha ice cream sandwich for dessert, it was much better than the cheesecake, but also not much tea taste. Saw this place on the map and had to try it out as I had just come back from Japan! I tried Afuri while I was in Japan and wanted to know if the Afuri in Toronto tasted the same. We got the Yuzu Shio Ramen Yuzu Ratan Ramen and some Yuzu Shio Edamame. First thing is that both ramens had a very strong yuzu flavour. Too strong in fact. I feel like they could've toned down on the yuzu as it overpowered the broth. Other than that, the ramen was super chewy and the char siu and egg was cooked to perfection. The Ratan broth could be spicier but it was still very good. The yuzu flavour on the edamame complimented the beans very well and I would recommend getting this if you like edamame. Overall, these ramen are comparable to the ones in Japan. I would definitely come back if I'm ever craving some yuzu ramen. read more

Fairly new place in Toronto. Another ramen joint has opened in the city. The ramen noodles are made in house which is a good sign. Yuzu infused ramen. If you are not a fan of Yuzu, you may want to try a different ramen place. Managed to get the last table before a huge lineup started. The atmosphere is nice and refreshing. Doesn't feel like the usual ramen bar. It had the cafe sort of vibe. Tried out the Yuzu Ramen and Tsukemen. Also tried two appetizers that the server recommended. The buta gyoza and Karaage. The food that we were served during our visit was great. It arrived promptly and arrived piping hot. We both liked the Tsukemen over the regular ramen. If you like something with a bit more flavour, I would recommend the Tsukemen over the Yuzu Shoyu Ramen. If you like something subtle the shio or any of the soup ramen stands out. We ended the evening with a matcha miso ice cream sandwich. which is something that was a bit unique from the usual matcha or sesame ice cream flavours. Overall, great experience and great memories. 4stars for food, 3.5 for service. Friendly but inefficient. 2 star foe the space, looks great but no AC Good soup base! Tried the spicy chicken ramen that had some yuzu in it. It was light soup base and east to have even when there is barely any AC on a very warm day. I get it's inflation the slight of meat in our ramen were like a shaving for your cold cut slice. It's not even a proper thick slice for ramen here. Chicken Karage is dark meat rolled up in a ball. Seasoning is good. Not the typical chunk. agedashi tofu had a good lift batter but not true to Japanese style as they use a med-soft tofu instead of a softer silky grade. Servers were friendly even though they are not the most efficient. we were there at lunch, there were 2 floating wait staff that seems to be on strict missions and not checking things in between. I had to flag the manager down for extra bowls and spoon/ mini ladle and he only got us the bowls. I walked over to get an extra ladle. Not sure if we got the right fried buta gyoza since two gyoza came to our table and we told them one came already. They never bother to check if we got the right one just took the second one away. Not sure if we overpaid for the wrong one at the end. I'm sure service will improve after grand opening moment. I will return! read more

Afuri Ramen and Dumpling just opened last year. With it's spacious and luxurious aesthetic, it has a very relaxed atmosphere. I decided to be adventurous and got the hazelnut tantan noodles. It comes with hazelnut broth, and miso cashews. Slightly strong ginger taste. Not my favourite broth to be honest but I commend them for being creative! Their specialty is their yuzu broth so I would definitely give that a try instead next time. Seems like people enjoy that a lot! This venue is so cute. It has a really beautiful, modern aesthetic and I love the neon lights on the back of the wall that have a fun saying on them. The woman who greeted me and ended up being my server was so friendly and kind. She was really on top of communicating with me and very sweet. I found out that the ramen is different than others because it has yuzu in some the dishes. I got the classic Ramen because I wanted to try to the yuzu. It did give it a nice tangy flavor. The pork was cooked perfectly and the noodles were delicious. You could tell they were fresh. The broth was flavourful, but I didn't have the same depth as some of my other places that I really like going to have. The winged Buddha dumplings were mind blowing. Again you could tell they were fresh. The meat inside was really flavourful and the dipping sauce had so many different flavours as well. I would definitely go back again. read more

This new ramen spot downtown was getting a lot of attention on socials, so I opted for a visit on a Friday afternoon. The interior is very neat and clean, it gives the aesthetic of Muji. I ordered the Tonkotsu Shio which has a black garlic flavour. The service was pretty quick, but when I got my ramen, I was disappointed to see that for a $17-18 bowl, they only give one piece of protein. Most ramen places provide 2-3 pieces at least. The broth was good but it wasn't anything special imo, same goes for the rest of the ramen. I think my meal was decent but honestly wasn't worth the hype this place is getting across socials. I probably wouldn't crave Afuri - there are better ramen spots out there. read more

I can't say Afuri Ramen + Dumpling was on my radar at all, but I'm always happy to check out a new ramen joint, so we made our way to the place on a recent Sunday morning. We arrived a little before noon and the restaurant was already about half full. Neither of us was hungry for one of the tasty-sounding appetizers, so I wound up ordering a bowl of the Yuzu Ratan ramen ("spicy shoyu tare, chicken broth, bamboo shoot, frisee, chashu, egg, nori, leeks, chili sesame, yuzu, thin noodle"). The food arrived a short time later and on first glance, it sure looked appetizing. I took my first sips and was immediately surprised by how citrus-forward the broth was. It was maybe a little off-putting at first, but the more I ate, the more it grew on me. The depth of the flavor is pretty epic, to be sure, as I kept discovering more tastes the longer I consumed it. The other components all work really well, and the noodles were cooked just about perfectly. (It's pretty depressing how many ramen places serve soggy, overcooked noodles.) I wasn't crazy about the enormous spoon I was given, but other than that, I enjoyed the heck out of my meal and look forward to returning to try some of their other offerings. I had the Yuzu Shoyu, Yuzu Lenonade, and Soft Shell Crab Bun, all tasty. For appetizers I had the ikageso karaage and tori karaage. The fried squid was nice and hot right out of the fryer. I loved it as it was a new experience for me. The fried chicken too was hot. It tasted similar to others I've had. For my main entree I had the ninikku shoyu. This ramen offered the thin noodles which they weren't willing to substitute for thicker ones. Chasu is all important indicator for me and it was alright but could of been thicker in nature. One disappointing thing is that you could not order extra noodles. I've never encountered this before. Not sure why they would not offer this option. This establishment has high ceilings, airy feeling, well lit and today's music the younger generation listens to. The service here is very good. This is a great place if you want to try some ramen in downtown Toronto. The first thing you notice when you step inside is how big and open the space feels. There's a big bar, an open concept kitchen and very tall ceilings almost like an industrial space. The service we got was very friendly, and our server made it a point to explain items on the menu and answer any questions we had. I had my eye on the hazelnut tan tan as I had never seen a variation of noodles with nuts as the main accompaniment. It tasted really good. The broth was very rich with a little bit of spice, and overall a very good dish. I also got some of their house made Ginger ale which has a very strong ginger taste. I thought it was really good but my friend got the Yuzu limeade, which would probably cater to more people. The dumplings at this ramen shop don't differ much in quality compared to those in Hong Kong. However, what makes them unique is the slightly sour sauce, which is very appetizing. As for the ramen itself, it's the best I've had in Toronto. The char siu (barbecued pork) is noticeably well-cooked, and compared to other ramen shops in Toronto, they put more effort into preparing it. We chose the yuzu-flavored broth, which has a tangy and refreshing taste that's very appetizing. Not a kid friendly place unfortunately as many dishes are spicy and flavours too strong for a child's palate. This place is a very open concept restaurant, it feels like there is a lot of space. This place was more spacious than most of the ramen restaurants I had ever visited in toI came with my husband and so we ordered two bowls of ramen. I have ordered a Yuzu ship and a Yuzu tsuyu ramen. The broth for Yuzu ship was light and I could taste the Yuzu flavour in the broth. The type of ramen was thin noodles with a slice of chasu and half of an egg with some bamboo shoots and greens on the side. The broth for Yuzu Tsuyu on the hand was more stronger in flavour and came in a separate bowl on the side. The broth tasted a combination of sour and spicy with a light touch of Yuzu flavour in it. It really opened up my appetite. The kind of ramen used was wavy noodles. On the side, I also ordered a chicken garage. The texture was like eating a meatball. Somewhat spicy but it's not too hot. The service was not bad. The waiters and waitresses were all around and were ready to attend our request. A little disappointed when my husband was not able to order extra noodles for his Yuzu tsuyu. We were told that noodles had to make fresh in their machine. It also brought to my question how long did they take to make the first portion of noodles for my husband's Yuzu tsuyu ramen. Anyway, that's not important. Another negative comment was the seats at the booth were kind of dirty. I could see patches of grease on the seats. The noodles were obviously made in house cuz they were so thick and chewy The karaage was good with a very light batter and yuzu mayo dip. Pork gyoza had really thin skin but i thought the meat lacked seasoning, which i didn't expect since it's one of their more popular picks. We came later at night around 930 and most things were still available on their menu which is nice! This may have been the best bowl of ramen I have ever eaten. I had the Tonkotsu Shio ramen, as well as the Spicy Ebi Wontons. The ramen had a perfect soft egg, great combination of traditional ingredients & a marvelous broth deep with umami deliciousness. The noodles were handmade on site & you can see the production room from the dining area. The consistency & chew were very well done. The dining area is spacious, open and comfortable. The service was very personable and my server assisted me as a first time customer in engaging the menu, as well as providing me some chili oil upon request. I would highly recommend a visit.
