Great new place in Blawnox! Cozy atmosphere and you can definitely tell that everything is homemade. Since there aren't many Afghan places around, I wanted to try as much of the menu as possible. I decided to try the bolani kachalo, tandoori samosa, chicken kebab with brown rice, homemade cake, and Afghan naan. The food was very good. The chicken kebab came in a generous portion. The chicken was cooked perfectly and quite tender. It was juicy and flavorful but not too spicy. There was also a refreshing side salad with some creamy sauce on the side, which was very good. The rice was well cooked too but nothing special and had no extra seasoning. I do wish they had a yogurt sauce come with it complimentary. The bolani was interesting. The portions here are large and this was large too. It's a tad crispy on the outside and has potato and some leeks on the inside I believe. It's good but nothing special. Does have some spice to it. The samosa was once again also quite large but surprisingly light. It's delicious with fresh, juicy lamb on the inside. The corners are crispy. This was pretty perfect. Maybe a tad more seasoning but still very good. The naan at this place is some of the best I've tried in terms of value. It's absolutely huge, like, bigger than a persons head. Think pizza size. Crispy bottom and soft on top. Very good. Finally, the homemade cake was a nice sweet treat to end off the day. Nothing too special but good. It had cream and orange pieces throughout. Like an orange Swiss roll but better. I liked it and it was cheap. All in all, a great new addition to Blawnox. I love the homemade feel and how fresh + delicious everything is. Easily one of the tastiest meals Iv'e ever eaten. The mantis dumplings are a must try. They are smothered in this tangy sauce and cooked perfectly. The dough used in the samosas was flaky and interesting and it also came with a salsa-like dipping sauce that complimented it in the best way. Cannot wait to come back and try more items. High noon on a hot Monday, when many things are closed ... but not Afghan Kabab and Pizza House in Blawnox! A friend and I were the only ones there, considering take-out (they have two or three tables, and sidewalk seating), but they cranked up the AC when we decided to stay. Very friendly people running it. I had an excellent mixed kabab (chicken and lamb with tasty brown rice mixed with herbs and raisins, and a small salad on the side) and the Bolani Kachalo potato-filled bread was delicious. She liked my dish better than her Qabuli, but we intend to go back to try the Mantu and maybe a kabab pizza. The owner brought us (gratis) some lamb Tandoori samosas to try, a little greasy but oh-so-flavorful. Service was great. I arrived a few minutes early for my food and since it was my first time in, the owner let me try one of their dishes. When I got home to eat my takeout, it was delicious. All of the meats were well seasoned and well cooked. Sauces and the samosa were delicious as well. Definitely would return! Great local restaurant with some novel cuisine. read more

We were finally able to try out this restaurant. Well worth the visit and we enjoyed it. Friendly team members when walking by and great explanations when making phone order. Food for pick-up was made right on the 15-20minute estimate. I love eggplant (Botani Bademjan) appetizer was an excellent dish; nice touch of creamy dairy and freshly roasted & well-seasoned eggplant. Veggie Rice dish (Palaw) was a hit with everyone whom tried it. Hearty portion and very filling. Lamb meat cubes were generous and delicious; we had them in the gyro wrap. Tandoori Samosa with meat was tasty as well and generously sized. We did not try the pizza but I'd probably only reach for that here to give a pizza option for kids/others with the focus being Afghan take-out. Inside is clean and roomy; functional waiting area and seating but for us we'd lean toward take-out. Easy walk from Old Thunder Brewing to take back. Highly recommend this for freshly made real food. Decided to try this out with the kids before a football game. Recommend the easy to order family meal for 2-3 that is actually enough for 4-5. Kebab was done perfectly and tasted great. Afghan bread was hot and fresh. Took a kebab pizza home for later. Tasted great. Super cheesy and nice chunks of lamb. Nice guys and great service. Would recommend this great local place. read more

I have placed a carry-out order for six on Wednesday and it was absolutely delicious. I realized that I have ordered way too much chicken which tasted as delicious on the 2nd and 3rd. day. I was craving good chicken KABAB for so long and it is finally here. The chicken is all boneless breast, so tender and so well seasoned in their secret recipe. First, read the Jully or August 2024 Pittsburgh post gazette article on these gentlemen and their business. I look forward to giving a five star review as they continue to learn. That said, everything we've tried (about 1/2 the menu so far) is at least good, most is very good and some is excellent. All portions range from ample to excessively large. The beef has been slightly tough twice and the chicken seems under-flavored - though still very good. I am nit-picking a bit. The pizza is fine, but this isn't principally a pizza place so a sauce that is a bit sweet is totally forgivable. The service is still improving and will get better. The first time I went on a Friday evening and it didn't seem like they had another customer. I ordered the 2-3 person sampler, Naan, and extra pilaf. I got a small plain pizza, too. This ultimately fed 6 meals. Took 45 mins, so I went next door to dietch's for a beer. Oh, the first visit when I asked what was good or what they recommended, I was simply told everything was good. Further probing didn't help much, although they were eager and happy to share their passion for food. Very earnest and caring, they ultimately will take good care of you. My point is only that I found communication / cultural differences made conversational ordering a teeny bit frustrating. Of course,that is a two way street. :-) read more

My parents and I came to have some food and it was really a lovely and quaint place. The food and portions are quite filling. The food is rich in taste and the breads are beyond. On a whim decided to eat here- the food is absolutely marvelous! You don't need ambiance when every dish is out of the world. Nothing is fried (not sure what the other review said about grease- there literally is no grease)- everything is makes or grilled. Tandoori samosas, dumplings, kababs, incredible homemade afghan naan from one employee who is an aghhani baker- all amazing. What great food! It's a little hole in the wall, casual and unassuming, but the food is outrageous. The owner was so friendly and spent time talking with us. If you like to try new and interesting things, this is the place! I hope they are 100% successful. read more
