Didn't have a great experience with the 2 other Advance Auto Parts shops I visited that Sun but decided it was worth trying again since I really needed to replace my battery that day and no car shops were open. I first asked for a battery diagnosis (which they do for free). The employee was able to quickly diagnose and explain to me the details of that diagnosis that was easy to understand. I do know quite a bit about batteries but physically I fall into a demographic that people might assume that I do not. So I appreciate that he was not condescending or anything. So that past my 'trustworthy' initial test. So I ask for them to install the new battery I bought from another location. And that's when the red flags started to come.. -first guy didn't disconnect the negative terminal first -didn't hold the other end of the terminal bracket to prevent twisting when trying to turn the nut -had to get a 2nd guy who was more experienced -he didn't bother wearing gloves and touched the corrosion with his bare hands..(clearly not safety first) +2nd guy was smart enough to hold down the other end with some pliers and sprays a lubricant to help loosen the nut without breaking the terminal bracket +2nd guy did use gloves to isolate the terminal brackets to prevent short circuiting +2nd guy was able to properly explain to me how the corrosion occured (with a bit of help from Google) +2nd guy gave me a battery tie down rode for free since my car was missing it +2nd guy sprayed down the bolts and brackets and also cleaned the terminal clamps with a metal wire brush +2nd guy made sure that my car could start up twice after the replacement -both used impact guns to initially loosen or tighten bolts - the best way would be to use a rachet and then a torque wrench All in all, got the job done, but not in the safest manner. Thankfully nothing went wrong. But I don't think I'd risk them doing something else on my vehicle. I think I would only trust their help with finding parts. read more

Why so rude to someone who wants to give you money? I visited the store and showed them the part number and price for an item they had in stock. The manager, Ahmed, who was at the counter, acted quite belligerent to me from the second I walked into the store. When I showed him the part that I wanted, he stated "That's not my store, that's your phone." I said that the site shows the part in stock here and he responded with "Well then why don't you purchase it on your phone?" I asked again for him to sell me the part and he stated that "if you want this for only a hundred bucks, you should visit WalMart, not my store!" Really? Yelp needs to give a Zero star option because service like this doesn't deserve any stars. All else I can say is WOW! read more

Purchased some wiper blades that didn't fit. Wanted to make a return within the same hour and the system would not let us. The manager Ahmed told us too bad and now we have wiper blades that don't fit our car and no refund. Would not recommend shopping here. Auto zone is right across the street. Popped in one afternoon to buy some detailing supplies. Line was backed up out almost out the door. One of the two store employees was wearing a tank top, loudly spouting vaccine conspiracy theories for the entire store to entire store to hear, and proudly proclaimed he would not be getting the COVID vaccine, all while not wearing any sort of mask. Managers at this location are very rude. Went in yesterday and noticed a really bad smelling large trash can left at the door way so everyone that walks in has to smell the stink. Told the manager very nicely that the trash was smelling really bad and he cut me off and basically said not to talk about the trash and let him know what I wanted. I then purchased one item for cash and returned the next day to return an unopened package. It was raining today and the front entrance had no slip proof mat, so I nearly fell on my head slipping on the puddle of water as I walked in. I caught myself and tried to explain the danger to customers to this day's manager. He just ignored me. I asked to return my item and that I paid cash. He stated he could not give me cash back because he did not have any to give. I told him just he day before the cashier reached down to another cabinet to unlock the cash drawer which had plenty of money. I only need $9.53 back and he very rudely stated "that was yesterday and today is today, I don't have cash to give to you, if you want cash, go to another store, that's all I can do." His demeanor was very rude. I will not be returning to this location for anything. The location further up in Fairfax circle area had a much nicer lady cashier who had no issues and was courteous on refunding cash. The location in Fairfax Station is also nice, but this Main street location has had a long history of rude personnel. Nothing changes, except that I won't be returning. read more

I have a 2007 Honda Accord and he has always gone above and beyond for me to help me out when something happens whereas other locations I have been to do not even check your battery if the light is on. I needed to replace all of the wipers on my SUV, and stopped by Advance knowing that they typically will replace your wiper blades. Well, not only did they not offer to do that, but the guy behind the counter lazily told me the lengths that I needed but nothing else like model or anything. Naively, I assumed that because of this they must have universal adapters. Turns out that may be true for the front but not the rear wipers. After spending an hour and a half and looking at YouTube videos I finally gave up and went to a different Advance Auto because the rear wiper would not go on with the wiper cover. Not surprisingly I had the wrong model for my car. The guy at the new Advance Auto not only immediately realized the problem, but came out and replaced it in less than a minute. I will never give this Advance Auto location my money again with such poor customer service. read more

We bought a battery for our 2019 Honda Honda Odyssey 6 months ago for $258.41. However, the battery was dead a few times in the last 2 months. It required a jump start to function again. We went to the store to request for an exchange of this defective battery but the staff and manager refused to honor the warranty. One of the staff did the tests on the battery, the first 2 results came back with Red words stating to replace the battery, the next 2 results came back with Green words stating it's fine. The staff and manager refused to replace the battery because they went with the last 2 results. We thought they did multiple tests and pressed different buttons to get to the "fine" results so they could refuse the replacement. If the battery didn't die out and put our vehicle at risk, we didn't want to come to the store to bother anyone there. The store's customer service was dismissive and unhelpful. We request that you reconsider your decision regarding my warranty claim and take immediate action to resolve this matter. I expect the defective product to be replaced or repaired at no additional cost to me, in accordance with the terms and conditions of the warranty. read more

If I could give zero stars, I would. I have never been treated as poorly as I was than by the manager Ahmed and his employee (I believe he is the same young Hispanic boy that has been complained about already in these reviews). I had my mechanic brother in town for the holidays and he was going to fix my car. It wasn't until after he started working on the car that he noticed that we needed an additional part. We noticed this issue on Friday (11/24) and he was leaving town Saturday (11/25). We frantically called many auto part stores looking for the part and Advance Auto said they'd be able to get it in the quickest-- being Saturday (11/25) around 2:30. My receipt even said delivery would be at 2:33. I was thrilled to hear this and ordered the part with Perry in the store. Nothing wrong there. Perry was great. However, Saturday rolls around and we call around noon to see if the part came in earlier by chance and Ahmed answered very rudely saying "what did he (Perry) tell you!?". There is no need to be rude when a customer asks where the part THEY paid $200 for is. The time of delivery rolled around before we knew it and we hadn't heard anything. We went to the store at 3:00 and asked if the part was delivered. Ahmed very rudely kept refusing to listen to our concerns about the matter and would walk away from us saying he wasn't going to help us and that they didn't have the part. I asked if he could track the order or contact whoever or wherever the part was coming from. He refused to do so. Therefore, we took matters into our own hands and found the information of the shipper and called them. We found out the part wouldn't be delivered until Sunday. At this point I was very frustrated as I felt I was lied to. However, Ahmed didn't care and was very vocal about it too. We left and had no other choice but to wait it out. Sunday rolls around again and it's 3:00 and still nothing. I call the store and am told it's still not there and they will reorder the part. At this point, time is no longer a piece of the equation and I just want the part I paid for. I wait again. Monday rolls around and I call at 3:00 again because I haven't heard anything. The young Hispanic boy answers the phone this time and is very very unprofessional and rude telling me I have no common sense about this stuff and I don't know what I'm talking about and to leave what happened with Ahmed on Saturday in the past. Ahmed then picks up the phone at one point and even gives his speech again (rudely) about how he cannot help me and so on. (Sidenote: every time I spoke with them they said "do you just want a refund?". I felt as though they didn't value my service and did not care to fix my issues). At one point, Ahmed puts the phone down and him and the young boy are talking to one another about me while I am listening on the line still. Unbelievable!! I ultimately contacted corporate, spoke with the district manager, and got my money back today (11/28). However, I am very disappointed with this service and felt very disrespected by the general manager and that boy. It seems to be a common theme at this store per the other reviews here on Yelp. AAP and autozone are located crossed street of each other and most time It is about what is in stock in which store. A week back I bought the air filter here and the staff heard the model year wrong. The shape looked diff from the my usual filters so I went back to the store and did a quick return and exchanged. I assumed AAP has pretty much the same return policy as other stores would. Then A few days back I bought a tool that turned out pretty much unused but unboxed. Turned out AAP's policy demands no return for Tools. The store mgr tried to help but said the computer would not accept it. Just heads up NO RETURN allowed for tools. That is pretty much end of the story. Hader and Raphael were extremely professional and helpful. My Story: Car battery dies, Purchased it from Carquest which was acquired by Advance Auto Parts. To apply my replacement warranty i needed to be in the system. Since Advance and Carquest had different systems, they couldn't find my name. After a 30-minute phone call with Corporate, they called Hader location to check out and test the battery. I was frustrated and irritated because the previous location I visited was very cold and distant to me. I had a very hard time getting them to just check the health of my battery on Fairfax Boulevard and the front end associate wasn't helpful towards me. I am not going to disclose who exactly was cold but i decided to visit Haders location. Heres what Hader did that was excellent. He immediately had Raphel, his technician do a test on my battery while I was explaining what had happened with my warranty and all the challenges I was going through. After listening patiently, Hader explained to me the company policies and he identified the problem. Hader, spoke to the representative that sent me there and came back with a solution. Hader (manager) very relaxed and cool-headed guy. He was able to get my battery changed for me in 20 minutes. This is my new Car spot location. Thank you Hader and Raphael. read more

Not sure if the woman with the short hair, glasses & tattoos problem is but she came off very prejudice! She was super friendly to the woman who was in front of us (who was actually being rude to her) but when it came to checking my husband & I out, she couldn't even look at us. If she didn't have to speak, she wouldn't have even uttered a word to us. We didn't get a "hi", "did you find everything okay?" or anything customer service wise. She rang us up, told us the total in the most monotone voice while making sure to look another direction & gave us the receipt. We weren't even offered a damn bag! My husband, being the kind person he is, told her to have a good day & she couldn't even say it back. Absolutely rude, rude, rude! Pretty sure she was racist based off the entire interaction. Not sure why she couldn't treat us the way she treated the lady before us but we will never go back to this location. First & last time ever going here. There are plenty other locations & other stores in general that would never allow this type of treatment. It's 2021, grow up! read more

The auto advance in luray is good, Chris, was a lot of help but when he needed the manager to fix things it was taking a good minute and I told him what was happening bc he assumed Chris was ordering something. I told Tom that I just needed to return something and buy two items, I never would have expected, Tom the manager, to shut me up and say that they got it. So very unprofessional. I did logistical work in the military and was just trying to explain that he wasnt ordering anything. I will never go there again, unless Tom isn't working there anymore. Thought I would share this most interesting experience I had this evening in the hopes it will make a difference to the way customers are treated at this sore by manager Ahmed and the clerk working. As I was dumping used oil into the recycling container, which I have done a dozen or so times prior, Ahmed the manager ran up to me and began berating me like a child for not introducing myself, even though I explained, I had just made eye contact with the clerk before proceeding to the back to dump the oil. I immediately apologized. I understood his point although there is a polite way to convey that. The clerk then spoke up and claimed he was with a customer and didn't see me in a rude way. I apologized again to him and said " sorry about that buddy" to which the clerk replied "I'm not your buddy", he said this twice and approached me in a menacing manner to ask if I understood I should have let them know I was going to the customer oil recycling container. The manager stood by quietly and said " Its not me saying that" Feeling pretty insulted now,I asked who the manager was and received no reply. I asked who the manager was again. Ahmed said sarcastically "I am the manager you see this shirt?" " This means I am the manager" As I went to leave ( I had enough at this point) I was told I could not dump my oil there (clearly as retribution for having to "deal" with me) I asked why as I have done it many times. Clerk says "commercial accounts can not dump oil" I asked what that means exactly and the clerk said" if you change oil in other peoples cars" I explained I do not change oil in other peoples cars, I am not a mechanic and these were my vehicles for my business that I personally own and personally change oil on. He walked away then. No further clarification was given. As I am leaving and sarcastically being wished " happy holidays" by the clerk, the Manager then tells me I spilt a few drops of oil on his floor by the entrance door and was very upset. I apologized again and I offered to wipe it up. I asked him why him and his employee were so angry. It was literally a few drops. He said I was "the only person who has ever spilt oil on his concrete store floor" dumping oil in the recycling container. He then says " I am 60 years old" I'm not sure why this matters or why Im being told this, as I am about that age and treating him respectfully. In any case, he refused to let me wipe it up, again as I offered and instead told me I did not have to shop here, it was my choice. I told him I did not like to be disrespected and left the store. Overall, obviously rude service bordering on hostile. Manager Ahmed provoked the situation to escalate into the loss of a customer. Store clearly, does not value its customers. read more

Rodney and Emily were very helpful!! I called ahead and learned that they had a steering wheel knob, which is already helpful since I have a shoulder injury. Rodney clearly explained how to install the knob. And we both laughed about how they call these "suicide knobs." While there, we got to talking about the impeding Flash Freeze Warning for Monday and lotsa ice possible. That's when Rodney mentioned that they had ICE CLEATS to put on the tread of boots. I bought some, and Rodney helped me stretch them over my boots right there on the counter- so nice. They worked well in the ice slush -- let's see how they do with ice. For $10, it's worth a try. I appreciated the help and was pleasantly surprised that they even had ice cleats. No other closer auto stores had the steering wheel knobs. read more

The big sign in the window says free battery test and installation - so when my battery was dead this morning, I got my car jumped and drove over to Advance... where they declined to test my battery. So here I sit outside Advance Auto Parts with a dead battery and nobody inside willing to help. Are you kidding? The assistant manager says it's because there's only one employee in the store because they don't sell enough volume to have two employees. That means that as a customer I basically can't expect to get battery help... at any time? So to sum up: I needed a battery, I went to a store FULL OF BATTERIES, and I left without a battery, an apology, or any help at all. I took my car to another business, the battery tested failed, I got it replaced, and I'm back on the road. So Advance lost a sale today and didn't do much to retain a customer either. read more

He suggest that I "start googling", and had zero clue what to do( which is ok, if you then try and help me figure it out too) he did not take the time to try and help me or figure it out. With him just standing there I ended up hurting my knuckle trying to figure it out. I went to autozone down the street and they gladly helped me. Actually my rating would be -5 stars if it would let me. Well I just had the worst experience I ever had at an Advance Auto, at the one located on Valley Ave. I was disrespected by an employee with a smart ass remark. Then when I told him I needed a rear window wiper he pointed to where it's located. After finally coming to the aisle to get it for me, I asked him if he could put it on for me, he said no they don't do that anymore due to someone broke something on someone's car. That's funny because one of their advertisements says that one of their services is installing windshield wipers. WTF. So I said to the employee, "What are you too f*****g lazy to put it on". I said, "This why I come here due to you guys put them on". That's when the manager said, "Sir if you don't like it you can leave". I guess this business is making enough money that they don't need my business, because I'll never come back in there again. So the employee rang up my wiper and it came to $16 and something. Now I have purchased enough wipers in my time that I already know that there about 3 different grades of wipers, cheap, mid-grade, and top of the line which is what he chose for me. Well after my debit card didn't work right the first time, I then said, "Forget it I'll go somewhere else". I was going to go to Auto Zone right down the street, but I changed my mind and went Advanced Auto on Loudoun Street instead, because I have always preferred Advanced Auto stores over the others. So I walked in the store and an employee said can I help you and I told him what I needed, he immediately came I got the wiper, rang it up and it was $13 and something, obviously the cheaper one, which all needed for the back. I asked him if he could put it on for me and he said, "Yes Sir". After I paid for it he went out and put it on for me and I then told him, "Even though his store is a little more out of my way, they will be getting all my business from now on". If this was up to me I would definitely fire the employee and the manager located at the Vally Ave store. Neither one has the customer satisfaction in mind. A good manager would have come over to see how he could better the situation, instead of telling me to leave. As for the employee, he is the most worthless person working in retail I have ever seen. read more

Advanced Auto Parts is a great place to buy tools, I usually go to the further one away from me which is near Fairfax Circle, cuz they are so nice and help out to much. But instead I went to this location cuz it was very close 4 minute drive away. The first time I went in the older gentleman was very friendly, he called me kiddo, felt like a teenager again. Lol. But anyways I had to buy this tool cuz when I was trying to change my oil Jiffy Lube Tightened the but to much. I was using my tool and it broke so I went to get a new tool. Got 1 and a back up just incase the first tool gave me trouble, I'd have the 2nd tool to be a backup if I strip the nut. Got home opened both and the first tool worked! so I didn't need the 2nd tool, I went to return it, and there were other guys in there later that same day, so one of the guys, guessing the manager, but not sure, gave me a little bit of a hard time for wanting to return a "Defective Tool" apparently. I said I didn't use it at all and he could put it back up on the shelf, he said the packaging is all messed up and it's defective. Well in my opinion, don't give the customer a hard time. But anyways long story short, got my money back for that "Defective tool". Lmao. Got to change my oil before work that day. And it all worked out. read more

Saved my family's night! I was out with my pregnant wife and 1 year old son when my battery had died. Was actually at another Advance Auto Parts store to buy a battery when they refused to install it. Was told that it was at the manager's discretion. Not sure what kind of policy that is for a store that advertises free battery installations. Desperate for a new battery and a baby about to throw a tantrum, I got back in my car and drove 20 minutes to this store where Mike quickly got me a battery, rang me up and had it installed in no time. No hidden fine print, no caveats... just straight to work. Though this store is much farther from my house, if they have guys like Mike working the store, I'll keep coming back. Very good experience. Staff installed battery for me. Bolt holding battery brace broke in place and staff spent one whole hour in the cold and dark finding a new way to tie down the brace. And didn't charge me a penny. Manager and other mechanic came out to help. And the bow on the present was how friendly they all were. Thank you all! read more
