I come to this location for quick service and no lines for inspections. This time, I almost entered the wrong way, so be sure to follow the signs for inspections (around the back)! Once the inspector takes the car in, he directs you to walk around to the front, which is a little inconvenient. There is seating outside the convenience store as well as inside. The whole process was so fast, i barely even remembered to take pictures. The customer service isn't necessarily the best. I am giving four stars instead of five for this reason. read more

don't even think of fixing your car at this station, they will rip you off.. even if your car is fine, they will never pass the inspection, they will look for anything charge you more.. the owner is very very rude and doesn't care about customers. they charge at least 30% more than other shops. save your money and go somewhere else. I took my car here to get the VA state inspection which they failed due to my brakes. They told me it would cost $550 for 1 brake pad, step, and drum. I told they that it was too much and i would take it to my shop to get it fixed. Which they didn't take to nicely too. I paid then $20 for the inspection and after driving 3 miles from the shop my car doesn't move anymore and stopped on the road. Their drive-through for safety inspection is the best. Only takes me 20 mins to done the check. No more need to drop off my car overnight at other safety inspection stations. read more

In full honesty, I have never filled gas here or used them for car repairs etc., but I have been getting the state and emissions inspections for my cars done here for at least the past 15 years of so and they are the best in that department. From what I have observed over these years, there mission is to get the given car inspected as efficiently and quickly as possible without trying to hold the customer hostage for any unnecessary repairs as part of these mandatory inspections (unlike some other shops). I have found all the technicians to be very friendly, reliable, efficient and fast, and I think they inherit this behavior from the station managers/owners. Most of my trips there have taken less than 30 minutes, and now even though I live at least 12 miles away and there are many car inspection places nearby, I still drive up to them to get my cars inspected every 2 years, based on the good customer service I have received from them all these years. Wow, I came in for a quick inspection and they ended up telling me I have to pay $500 for my brakes that they claim were not working which I knew was not true because I recently took it to a shop and when I picked it up after the inspection the car completely stopped working on the drive home had to pay $80 just to get it towed back to my place. Brought my car in for an oil change. I left my car in the garage and decided to leave the car with them. Big mistake! 5 min later, the mechanic walked In to the gas station and told me there is something they found on my car. Apparently Lifted my car up for no reason and found a nail in the tires. The mechanic was disappointed when I decided not to fix it in his shop. When the service was complete, had the garage door blocked by other car. Really took their time for the service. Not coming back here ever again and do not recommend it to others either. read more

This review is not for the convenience store which is great! My review is for the service center located attached to the Shell convenience store. I've been here twice for a VA state inspection and emission test. The issue I have is with the technicians always trying to make extra money by stating a front/back/rear light bulb was out and needed to be replaced. I believed it the first time as I did not check beforehand (costed me $36 extra for a light bulb change). But at the second time (a year later), I was told the same thing which made me annoyed as I had checked the bulbs a few minutes before while waiting in line and they were all working! Ok, it is possible that by some weird chance one of them stops working in the 5min of me waiting to get my car tested however it just didn't make sense! He performed my emission and safety test which my car passed, then gave me a bill to pay inside at the convenience store located next to the service center, and at no point was anything mentioned about the bulb being out! If it were, I guess my car would not have passed the safety test! It was "coincidentally" mentioned after I paid (ie was away from my car for 5min while paying inside the store) and that it would cost me $26 extra to change. I felt cheated that he would mention it to me like this. Ridiculous and would never return to this place. You end up feeling cheated after leaving and always doubtful if you got the service you expected! Don't go here for your VA safety tests! read more

Had an issue with my 1987 S15 GMC pick up truck. For some reason when I tried to start it the small wire leading from the positive battery terminal to the frame began to smoke and melt. Had it towed to the Herndon shell near where I live and left it thinking this is going to be expensive because I've never seen anything like that happen before. The next day I got a call it was fixed. The main ground and cable to the engine block had become so rusted and no longer completed the circuit from the battery to the starter and back to the battery when I turned on the ignition. The cost for the repair or $60. I was thinking they would come to hundreds not knowing we could possibly be the issue and how many parts they have to replace to fix it and had to charge me for five or $600 I wouldn't of known it. So that's the story I'm regular garage doing quality work I'm not ripping off customers who wouldn't know any better. read more

My wife brought our car for inspection. After the inspection was done without issues, when my wife came to the car to drive ,they suddenly told her the car could not change auto-transmission gear. So it could not start. The car never had transmission problem before . They lifted it up and down a few times, took some parts off and told her that the transmission had problem but not sure what. They told her the car could not be drive and had to stay there. The next morning, they called and said they found the problem. It was the cable problem and asked $200 to fix it. Obviously, they intentionally manipulated the car and created the non-drivable situation to make profit by taking advantage of unknowledgeable customers . Absolutely a scam, beware. read more

Took my car to this place for a regular oil change and ended up with engine damage. They used the wrong size oil filter that caused all of my motor oil to leak out and left me with a burnt-out engine. I had to get a rebuilt engine which cost me thousands. The owner and staff of this place were no help at all. They gave me the run-around for weeks until I was able to file a claim with their insurance company to get reimbursed. We were making a last minute decision to get an inspection done and didn't use our usual mechanic.. BIG MISTAKE!! Our windshield wipers were not working properly and we failed inspection. So we went ahead and let them repair it with the idea that their mechanic actually knew what he was doing. We were told that we needed a new motor for the wipers. Needless to say they didn't fix it correctly. We took it back to the mechanic we trusted who informed us that we never needed a wiper motor in the first place and if they had just run a technical service report they would have known how to easily fix it. When I went back to the service station to get my money back the manager was very rude and stated that I should have brought the car back to them if the wipers still didn't work correctly. Now why would I take my car back to a place who couldn't figure it out right the first time.
