Rack of lamb with ocean sauce.
    Marc W.

Last night was my second trip To Adolfo's and it did not disappoint. Rather than go off the menu as last time, I opted for the special. Rack of lamb with ocean sauce. It was amazing. Service was great and as a reminder, the place is SMALL-about 10 tables. They do not take reservations but there's a bar downstairs to wait it out. One small side note-if they opt to offer this or similar specials more frequently they need to invest in better steak knives. Yes. The lamb was as tender as could possibly be but the knife was slightly stronger than a plastic spork.

The place is tiny and perfect!! Got seated just before 9:30, the last seating is at 9:30. We needed to get food in our stomach before continuing to enjoy Frenchman St. ordered Steak Scotty and a side salad. DELICIOUS! Perfect cook. Seasoning was spot on. Was so happy with this place

This may very well be my NEW FAVORITE NOLA restaurant. In the 25 years I have been coming to NOLA...I finally pulled the trigger and ate at what I heard was a legendary restaurant! What I thought was myth and legend was entirely true. An amazing small local joint with ridiculous food with service to match. Fresh clams with a garlic sauce for starters, pasta with homemade marinara and the special...crab stuffed blackened grouper with the ocean sauce with a little spice and shrimp & crawfish sauce!!! AMAZING. The ambiance was amazing, incredible service, the staff didn't rush us and 1 1/2 hours later... it was one of the most enjoyable dinner services I've ever had in New Orleans.

This place was mid. The ocean sauce was good but my cut of veal was not. Cute story but the food wasn't anything memorable. I judge Italian spots by their marinara sauce & cheese & their's was just not it for me. Rao's is better, actually. I'd suggest the ocean sauce with a different protein. The service was excellent, but the dining room was pretty tight and loud (again, it's NoLa) so that's expected. The desert was fine but again nothing memorable. I probably wouldn't return or recommend given the trillions of options nearby.

I had an unexpectedly authentic Italian dining experience at Adolfo's on Frenchmen. I honestly didn't even know this place existed and stumbled upon it by accident. It's a small restaurant with limited seating, and you'll need to climb a narrow staircase to get inside. Still, it's absolutely worth the visit--especially if you're planning a romantic night out and want to impress. I loved the Pasta with Italian Sausage, and the Chicken Parmigiana was perfect.

This is a repeat for me. When ever I am in NOLA I try my best to dine at Adolfo's. This last time, we stopped by a little after 6 on a Wednesday in March. We were seated right away and had a lovely meal. The plates are huge and delicious. Be prepared for a memorable meal in the tiniest restaurant!

Doesn't get any more NOLA authentic than this! Very cool, old space and building. This is a must stop place, if not for the restaurant, then for the bar downstairs. Live music was great! Waitress was awesome. Gave us suggestions on different dishes. Everyone enjoyed their meals. I chose a special that was a flounder with shrimp and crawfish with their house sauce. Huge portion and it was excellent.

Service was great and a nice off the beaten path restaurant. We got there approx 10ish min early. Shortly after a line formed. We got the special appetizer steak bruschetta, it was amazing. My husband got the fish with ocean sauce, it was great. I got the Rachel's pasta. Both entrees were good but the sauce on the pasta was watery. You had to use the spoon to gather the sauce. For the price of the food I don't think I will return but the atmosphere was good. I recommend to try and see if you like it.

The most amazing food I have ever had the pleasure of experiencing! Sitting above the Apple Barrel Bar, this quaint little joint is easy to miss but hard to forget if you're in the know. First seating is the best, you're almost greeted as one whole table. Hearing the specials as one, meeting the staff as one, it's a really nice moment you share together that encapsulates the NOLA vibe. For dinner we enjoyed the infamous ocean sauce over the stuffed flounder and it did not disappoint. The creamy, spicy sauce had chunks of crab and shrimp, atop the flaky flounder; it was so delicious! The linguine was so fresh, the red sauce had so much depth, everything was just divine! Cannot wait to come back!!

The best things in life are unplanned, and that's exactly how we stumbled upon this hidden gem. We were walking around Frenchmen Street and stopped at the bar downstairs. I noticed a staircase and decided to go up not realizing there was an entirely separate restaurant waiting for us. We had no dinner plans so we decided to put our name on the list. This place is tiny - probably no more than 10 tables and you can see the small kitchen with just two or three cooks working. Here's some of what we ordered: - Chicken Brenda A lemony spinach sauce that paired beautifully with the side pasta. Might sound like a simple dish, but the flavors were next-level. Definitely worth trying! - Ocean Pasta- this was recommended by the waitress and 100% my favorite dish here. MUST TRY! - Escargot - My first time trying escargot, and I am officially obsessed. I don't even remember exactly how it was prepared but WOW. - Mussels - Another absolute flavor explosion. This dish was incredible. Everyone at the table loved their meals and the atmosphere made the night even more special. I celebrated my birthday here surrounded by my family, enjoying amazing food, wine, and great service. A dinner filled with laughter, great conversation, and unforgettable food. Thank you Adolfo's!

The restaurant is upstairs. There's a unisex bathroom in the corner past the door and the cash register area. There are 11 tables in the restaurant, so arrive early or accept your fate. Don't say nobody told you. When we arrived, it was dark and hot inside. I thought it was unusual mood lighting, but Gary explained the electricity was out and recommended we come back after a bit. Apparently a transformer had gone out, so it was lights out all along Frenchmen. We moseyed a few blocks to a brewery, and the lights flickered on about an hour later. Perfect timing--we were the last of 6 tables to be seated, and then they had to start turning away customers, as Gary was the only waiter on staff. Adolfo's doesn't take reservations, so if your timing isn't right, or you're due for a dose of karma, you'll be out of luck with an unimpressed date. Don't make a scene and just come back another time. It's worth it. Gary masterfully waltzed from table to table, giving us all the rundown of evening specials and apologizing for the earlier electricity snafu--a very gracious and polite host. We started with the sausage and spinach cannelloni, a perfectly-balanced palate pleaser with strong notes of fennel in the sausage and something that might be too spicy for certain people. There was a beautifully light lingering sensation of either crushed red pepper or perhaps cayenne. 10/10 My entree was the Fish Missy. Half was sauced with creamy, lemony spinach, and the other half was generously embellished with crabmeat and capers. Divine. Sent by the gods. 10/10 My handsome date devoured his stuffed flounder in ocean sauce. While the sauce had a wonderful flavor of its own, it also let the taste of the crawfish and shrimp shine. Although il sure some people prefer it, I did see a vein in one of the shrimp, so I say 9/10 Everything about Adolfo's is exactly what we love about dining out: intimate setting, superb service (even under pressure!), unique dishes with flavorful consideration, and located in a spot with opportunities for many interesting side quests. Looking forward to our next visit.

Are they open now? I keep reading they are closed indefinitely?

It is currently closed as owner is recovering from an illness.

Do they have a cork fee?

    No, they do not

Can the accommodate a party of 7?

Yes. They did have a couple of tables that size. You may want to call for reservation as seating is very limited.

If I want to get a table as soon as they open, can I get there early and sign in? Is there a sign in book? How early should I get there. I don't mind sitting for a while and having a drink downstairs.…

It's like any other restaurant were the sooner you get there, the sooner you will get seated, based on your party size. No they don't have the waitlist available before they open.

Is it still BYOB...or BYOWine? Haven't been in a few years.

No, they have beer and wine. Nobody in our group asked for cocktails so I don't know about that. We were just there this past April. Get the ocean sauce.

That's clearly communicated when you're greeted, so naturally it sets the expectation for shareable portions. We started with the ricotta and meatballs. Overall, portions felt on the smaller side, but the ricotta, especially at $18, was honestly a bit shocking in size. When we asked about it, a server jokingly said "inflation." I get it, but still. The two guys I dined with come here often and were actually the ones pointing out that portions have seemed to shrink. For mains, we each ordered a pasta. One was a server recommended agnolotti with crab, corn, and roe. It was decent, but the broth felt a bit too loose and could've used more depth and richness. That said, the crab portion was generous, the pesto was great, and the red sauce pasta was solid. We also ordered two pizzas, hands down the highlight of the meal. Easily the best thing we had. One small but off putting detail, the red pepper flakes were served in an open jar rather than a shaker. It made me question how many hands had been in it, especially since it appeared to have been reused from another table. Not the most sanitary presentation. Dessert was a strong finish. Panna cotta, tiramisu, and olive oil cake were all fresh and delicious. Drinks included a cocktail for me and beers plus an espresso martini for the table, all fine. Service wise, things started okay but felt rushed toward the end. We even mentioned we were still picking at food and what seemed to be a manager still cleared plates from the table. The tables themselves are also very small, which doesn't help when you're doing family style dining. Our server appeared to be training someone but never introduced them, which made things feel a bit awkward. Also, when resetting silverware, it felt rushed and a little careless, almost tossed onto the table rather than placed. Overall, the experience was good but not great. The food had its highlights, but portion sizes versus price and some service missteps held it back. 6/10, and honestly it reminded me why I hadn't felt the urge to come back before.

I would caution solo diners before dining here…read more After reviewing reservations on OpenTable, I called to confirm that outdoor seating for dinner was the only option. The host was firm, sharing "we are fully booked this evening, only {heated} outdoor seating is available" I decided I'd walk by the restaurant just to see if a bar seat was made available and the server shared "Awww I'm so sorry, the last two bar seats were just taken", after a few taps on the iPad screen. I asked if I could be sat outside & he said "yes". I kindly advised him I'd like to book my reservation on OpenTable so I could get my Opentable points. I stepped outside added a credit card to the reservation and miraculously bar seating was available. I waited 15 minutes, went back inside and acted brand new. And guess what ..... I was sat at the bar. The host kinda smirked and said "oh yes". As if he perhaps had remembered a previous dialogue. I watched every other guest be treated differently. When seating guests, the host gladly removed the reserved sign, asked what type water they would prefer & offered exemplary service, even stepping behind the bar to assist those newly sat guests. I on the other hand sat with my menu the entire meal, the brass reserved sign was never removed and I truly felt forgotten. Sitting with empty bread basket, finished & empty {lasagna} plate. The meal was delicious & the bartender needed extra hands. The experience didn't feel very welcoming. The owner of the restaurant jumped behind the bar to assist with washing glassware. At the very end of my meal as I was waiting for my check to be closed out, he asked if I was finished with the menu. I jokingly said "many moons ago". Something just felt very off - and the only conclusion was: I was dining alone. I quietly departed.
