Sounds like they just have really high standards or are faulting the service instead of recognizing how incredible the food is. I'm not a giant fan of Hawaiian style grills, however this place fucking CRUSHES it. I've tried Hawaiian style grill places in Portland, Beaverton, and Tigard that have a following of people who say it's incredible. I haven't had a showstopper meal like what Hawaiian Style Grill has done. Most places are overpriced, hyped up, and just mediocre. This place is decently priced, the service is just fine, and the food is great. It's truly a gem for Hawaiian food in the Portland metro area, and I'm proud this one is on the Vancouver side of the river.

They had one special menu and the manapua man noodles and gaugee caught my eye. That's like the perfect combo. But we skipped out on gaugee and got the manapua man noodles. Wish the options for the additions was one fried chicken but instead it was either pork belly or sweet sour chicken. Which isn't usually the kind of combo I would get. Especially if you label it manapua man noodles. The noodles tasted more like fried noodle / fried saimin style since it was cooked on a wok. I do miss the simplicity of a manapua noodle where you dress it with shoyu and sirracha. But these noodles weren't bad. They were super flavorful. Portion was huge! My husband said he could've gone without the pork belly. The pork belly was meh. The noodles tho, ono! I also went with the japolo chicken and kalbi combo, which is my go to. Kalbi is saucy and so flavorful! The chicken is nice and crispy. My only thing is that my plate was swimming in sauce. And when it touches the rice, it's a no for me. Wish had some buffer like cabbage to catch the sauce. Other than that, food is always ono here. Service is also friendly and the place is nice and clean with lots of seating!

So, sure enough I made a trip out there...It's a good 25 minute drive from where I live. I ordered the Huli Huli Chicken and it was some of the best chicken I ever had! Even with a plastic fork and knife, it was super tender and moist. Grilled perfectly and tasted so darn delicious! They gave me a side of Teriyaki, which I barely used on my rice, since the Chicken was flavorful enough! The Mac Salad was very good as well! If it seems a little on the speedy side, it cost me almost $17 with tax, they justify by giving a big portion of Chicken and rice. It's enough to split among two people. Next time I make a trip out there, I would like to try their Garlic Chicken or their Poke dish. I wanted to try their dessert, but I didn't see a Chocolate dessert listed on the menu. The short ribs were 90% fat and 10% actual meat. The macaroni salad was incredibly plain, it needed more seasoning - pepper something because it straight up looked it was pasta with slabbed mayo. I will however give a shot out to their poke because I don't eat seafood nor like it and I did give this a try for the fun of it and it was delicious. Again I think because we came in 40-45 minutes before closing closing the service was not great either. I saw the self service bottles of sauce and when I came back I asked the lady for one and she said she had run out when it was pretty clear she was just cleaning up. Fair- you want to get out of there on time. So I asked the lady for hot sauce and she said it was extra and charged me $1.00 per 2.5oz container which is just diabolical in my opinion- I still paid none the less so it's my dusky for contribution to the fiasco. Overall it was mid, I'm used to much more flavorful food in Los Angeles. Ill give it another go whenever I'm in the area at a different time. Perhaps it was a one off day for them.
