Some of the best Filipino food I have tried. I came here on a Sunday and ordered the tosilog and the ube bibingka. The tocino was so flavorful and fatty and marinated very well. Pro tip come early because they do sell out!
I ordered the pork dish for lunch and was honestly surprised at the lack of flavor of the dish. The pork was good and tender, but the flavor of the dish really just tasted like salt (soy sauce). I was hoping for a bit more variety of flavor- sweet, tangy, spicy, - something to add to the salty.
Great food cart and loved all the options. Tried two different dishes, and they were both amazing. Fun little location that was next to a bar that you could get drinks to go. The service was fantastic. Can't wait to come back and try the lumpia... unfortunately , they ran out but next time.
*Disclaimer this review is for their brunch spot only open mondays and Tuesday called Balong* Amazing food! Filling breakfast sandwiches that come with a runny yolk that bursts when you bite into it. I also got the potato pave. It was good but nothing I would get again. I recommend the sausage breakfast sandwich. They also have a vegan option as well.
For some reason, just for fun, I was searching for JOLLIBEE, because of their Fried Chicken (on which I've not tasted), but Filipinos raved about it. On my search, it showed up Baon Kainan, and we're just 9 mins. from there, so we turned around and was able to park out front. Our order was taken right away. We were also able to find a large table for hubby and I. The food was served in a unique way. They had the Adobo Chicken and sauce, in a separate container to which rice could be added as you wish. The Adobo was very tender and delicious! (I add his Bok Choy with my leftover, but he tasted it. No worries, he's a picky eater, he won't eat them at home, either!) For the first time, I had the Kare Kare with Rice. (No way will I try Filipino food with fries!) Kare Kare had that peanut sauce, which was good, but it was something I've had to dip Egg Roll Salad. Like I said, my first time to order this, from any Filipino restaurant. It was more on my plate than I can chew, so I'm saving the rest of another meal. It also came with Bok Choy, which I ate. I didn't see the Ube Bibingka! I'd like to stop here, Saturday, after my 3pm event, but if we stop there and they're gone, oh well. . . next time. I want to try these. The server educated us about the menu items, and thank you for having patience with us!
Traditional it's not, but that's probably a good thing as Filipino seems to rank near the bottom of Asian food popularity. That is, their offerings should draw-in more who are unfamiliar with the cuisine. It was hit and miss. I didn't connect with their version of Adobo, the staple of Filipino cuisine, we didn't finish it. I guess with this dish I'm a purist at heart. And while I've never been a fan of Sinigang, I definitely didn't care for it here. Conversely, the Kari Kari fries were awesome. Those fries plain would have been satisfying. An ample portion dish for cold weather. It includes a small side of what seems to be fish paste. Likewise, the Ube Bibingke was mouth watering wonderful. So it's a worthy cart, the drawbacks were more personal rather than uniform. That is, they have earned glowing reviews. Lastly, the co-owner who tends the window is extremely nice, you want this business to succeed. Parking is relatively easy in this obscure spot that's also home to another Yelp favorite cart.
It was pretty decent but nothing crazy. I felt it was a tad pricey for what you get. I tried a couple noodle dishes which were tasty but pretty simple flavor wise. The palabok was a bit different - vermicelli w/ a seafood gravy, ground pork and shrimp. Almost tasted a bit like carbonara.
I love my Filipino food but I love supporting these local businesses even more! We were lucky to find them open until 8PM on a weekday so when the kare kare craving hit we were SO GLAD to find it on their menu. We came close to closing so not a long wait but glad to check them out in their new space near Concourse Coffee. We were able to chat with the owners as well and they were so kind! For this first visit we tried almost half of their menu with the kare kare (with a side of garlic rice instead of fries), palabok, longanisa lumpia, and calamansi cider. The kare kare was traditional but with a kick from the peppers. The meat was super tender and there was plenty of sauce to go around the side of garlic fried rice. As for the palabok they use thin noodles and their sauce had plenty of crunch - yum! My favorite though had to be the longanisa lumpia because who doesn't like longanisa OR lumpia. Since it was a cold night the calamansi cider was a nice option and it was a nice flavor combination that kept me wanting to sip on it more.
Kare kare fries (peanut butter beef stew)?! Don't worry they didn't forget the bagoong side (fermented shrimp). The fries was light and krispy. Not your Mickey D's fries either. It was delightful. Kare Kare is one of those ideal and unique Filipino taste that surprises most non-Asian tasters. Normally eaten with white rice, this twist is a nice way to be introduced to Filipino flavors. The ube bibingka was also good. A little chew with a pack of tarp/ube flavor is a nice way to end a light meal! Thanks and kudos to the KB team. Much success.
We finally made it here on a gorgeous sunny Fall day. The food was everything I hoped it would be. They have created a unique fusion of flavors starting with traditional Filipino favorites. It's definitely not what your tita makes but at the same time, I think she would enjoy it...if you forewarn her it's what the youngsters are doing today...but your cooking is always #1 to us. I think they are smart to have a limited menu so they can keep things fresh and tasty. They offered three solid choices today and I had a hard time selecting! Excellent experience, tasty delights, friendly staff and thought went into investing in better one-time use packaging.
One of the best Filipino food I've had. We bought the pork sisig, chicken adobo, pancit palabok, and ube bibinka. Everything was excellent.
We came here on the same day we had to fly back home so we could only eat here once.... This place did not disappoint! We had an amazing experience! The owners were friendly, the food was amazing. You can tell it is quality Filipino dishes. They put their heart in this and not just try to hook up a regular dish. Nah! Nah!! EVERYTHING we tried left us feeling "wish i ordered double of this" Lumpia- very flavorful filling and rolls were crispy which i love. I love the fact that it is not oily. Tosilog- the pork belly was tender, excellent flavor, the portions of the meat, rice and eggs were very filling! Ube Bibingka -what can i say..... BEST! BEST! Ube Bibingka! I wish i had bought 10 of these! It was perfect! Great texture, flavor! Calamansi juice- very refreshing! I came here to try the Palabok, however at 1220, it was already sold out. I told Hubby, we would prolly just have to fly to Pertland on one weekend and just go back to these spots we bookmarked.. I'll give this place 100 stars if i can.
Filipino food used to be scarce in this area south of Seattle. Now there seems to be a growing scene. This little truck had food packed with flavor. We ordered the lumpia which had a unique take on it. I've not tasted these flavors before. The palabook also had a flavorful savory sauce with a generous amount of shrimp and pork. Calamansi cream puffs for a Filipino twist on a classic. Great place!

I had visited Baon Kainan a couple of years ago and they had a limited breakfast menu. So it had been on my radar to return and try more of their menu. Showed up for a very late lunch at their Alberta location. Stepped up and ordered: Palabok-Rice noodles, seafood sauce, ground pork, sautéed shrimp, pork crackling, fried garlic. First, I should have added an egg for $1. This was a little more bland than traditional palabok. Noodles were also a little thicker than I like. Its good, but I do favor the more traditional palabok. Adobong Gulay-Green beans and fried tofu in a tamari and vinegar sauce. My sister had been hoping for the Kare Kare, but they were sold out, so she opted for the Adobong Gulay. I tried a bite and found it tasty. Lumpia-Good lumpia. Says it has longanisa sausage as a filling, but it wasn't the usually strong longanisa taste. Ube Bibingka-ube flavored rice cake, toasted coconut. Not as heavy as a traditional bibingka. It was fluffier (reminded me of marshmallows). And I ate every bite. Good solid filipino food cart. read more

A great food cart to get some Filipino food. The Breakfast Bowl (Tosilog) came with some pork belly tocino and eggs over garlic rice. A simple dish, but very tasty. The chicken adobo was also pretty good. The chicken was very tender and full of flavor. The service was nice and friendly and the food didn't take long to come out. read more

Great Filipino food truck in Portland! We ordered the Kare Kare fries, tosilog, longanisa lumpia, and calamansi soda. Kare Kare fries were really good, it had big chunks of beef in it that were tender and soft. It's also a huge serving (for some reason I thought it was going to be the size of a side). The tosilog was also really tasty and had an interesting twist. I've never had pork belly tocino before, although not traditional it was still good. The longanisa lumpia were probably one of my favorites because that is just the ultimate combo! Also would definitely recommend getting the calamansi soda. Very refreshing! If you're wanting to try out Filipino food I would definitely suggest checking this place out! read more
Finally got to try this place and we can't wait to return! Their kare kare fries are perfect and will you keep you warm even on the coldest day despite no rice and just French fries!! And their ube bibingka was fire. It wasn't overly sweet so easily devoured! This food truck is neighbors with the Matta which is another great Asian food truck and owners for both are A+++. Super friendly and always willing to converse with their customers. You can mix and match and get a whole meal start to finish from these two trucks alone, which adds so much delight to your meal (and also the fact that you're supporting two small Asian owned businesses at once!). Will definitely return and try the rest of their offerings! read more

I came here and tried the tocilog and ube bibingka. The tocilog was AMAZING and cooked to perfection and I would definitely come back just for that. I'm pretty sure the only tocilog I've had prior to this have come from the frozen section of the Asian grocery store with its bright red coloring and I will neverrrr be able to go back to that after having Baon Kainan. And the ube bibingka is the BEST bibingka I've had... ever in life! Looking forward to coming back to try the adobo and kare kare fries. read more
I visited with my girlfriend for a Sunday brunch after a bunch of friends recommended this cart, and I'm glad we came! It's pretty clear to see why this cart was awarded one of the top food carts in PDX. We ordered the Tosilog, but with eggplant instead of the pork belly. I've never had Tosilog before, and I would've gotten the pork belly version if I were alone, but after I tried the eggplant, I would dare say that it'd be almost impossible for the pork belly version to have been better. The eggplant is lighted coated and then deep fried to perfection, resulting in a crunchy exterior and a very light and fluffy interior. I'm not even an eggplant person, but I loved it here! The garlic rice was also cooked perfectly, and I found that there was just the right amount of garlic in it. The two sunny-side up eggs added creaminess once the yolks were broken, as they slowly oozed over the rice sitting below. The onions and cherry tomatoes gave a slight smokiness from hitting the flattop, as well as some needed acidity to cut through the other savory flavors. The way the dish was executed, I can't help but think that it was the perfect representation of Filipino cuisine - an exciting combination of salty, savory, and acidic. We also ordered the Ube Bibingka for dessert, and it was amazing! The cake is extremely light, with the ube flavor coming through for a perfect amount of sweetness. And the coconut crumble topping gave some crunch and textural contrast. Would absolutely order this again. There wasn't a line to order when we came, but we did have to wait about 15 minutes to get our food. The cart is a 2-person operation, so be patient. They're super nice too, and I loved that we were able to chat it up with them a bit while we were waiting. There's only outdoor dining here, as there's 2 long wooden tables that serve the patrons for all of the food carts in this pod. There are some parts of the tables that're covered by umbrellas to shield you from the heat, but I didn't mind getting some sun while eating. Pricing is reasonable given the amount and quality of food that you get. It'd be tough to find anything cheaper, and I know that it's already tough to find good Filipino food to begin with. There's tons of street parking around that's free - we didn't have any trouble when we came. If I remember correctly, there's a 2-hour parking time limit, but not sure how enforced that is. Absolutely love this cart! Show them as much love and support as possible, because they deserve it! Whenever we visit PDX again, we'll definitely come back. read more

If you're a fan of Palabok, this was pretty damn good! Loved the portion size, flavor of the sauce, and the squeeze of lemon really put it over the top! I usually see it with hard boiled egg, so had to add a fried egg. Great job! It's hard to find good Palabok these days! read more
Had a tasty and wholesome meal here recently. The service was quick, food was delicious and felt pretty clean/healthy. I haven't had much Filipino food so it was an awesome way to try. The menu changes slightly daily - we got chicken adobo and pork belly rice - both were good. The citrus soda was similar to tangerine in flavor. There were a few benches, only some with shade. Not too crowded on a weekday lunch. read more

Came here on a family dinner. Easy to order, very clean location. Customer service was friendly and chill. I ordered the signature Chicken Adobo over rice. The chicken was grilled and braised in a soy-vinegar broth. The meat was tender and fell off the bone. The chef is obviously very well trained and takes his craft seriously. My wife ordered the Vegan sisig. It was the first time she tried calamansi, and she loved her dish. Very flavorful and very beautifully presented. My two year old daughter loved their garlic rice (with the adobo sauce). We got to also sample their rice cake/ube dessert. It was very nice way to end the meal. Not many food carts can do both entree and dessert; very impressive. Overall, it was a great experience. Filipino comfort food done at a high level. Look forward to coming back again, next time probably for their brunch. Dying to try the pork belly with fried egg combo. read more

The more Filipino food in Seattle, the better! Baon is a pop-up that is hosted out of Ben Paris and their food is DELICIOUS. We first tried them back in August and ordered their salmon singang and chicken adobo. But this is not your mom's cooking! The salmon in the sinigang was lightly smoked. Everything was so well balanced and the smoky flavor didn't overpower the soup. The bok choy in the adobo was fermented (surprise!) which worked so well with the vinegary tang of the dish. Our orders were 3-course meals and we got Shanghai lumpia and a cucumber tomato salad on the side. Bibingka (sweet rice cake) was for dessert! Baon now has an ala carte menu for their various adobo bowls. Get it while it's hot! read more

We're from Seattle and this place was definitely worth the drive. This place leveled up every Filipino dish I've ever had growing up. The adobo fried chicken tasted like crispy pasta. The acidity in the pancit bihon was well balanced with the infused ground pork. Ending my meal with the ube bibingka and honey butter was like a #ratatouille moment. And to top it off their customer service was exceptional. I was there right before they closed and they had run out of most of their food so to make it up they gave us free dessert and their last pancit bihon which they were probably planning to eat for lunch at the end of a very long and tiring shift. If I could give this place more stars I would! I'm also bummed I forgot to take photos of the food because my family and I inhaled it. Thank you Baon Kainan! We'll be back read more

Just passing by OR and was craving Filipino food. We came across this cute stand with the nicest people. I celebrated my 30th while they celebrated their 1 yr anniversary! They had so many good things on the menu, but we tried the: kare kare fries, adobo with garlic rice, filipino spaghetti, ube bibinka, longanissa lumpia, and calamansi soda. All were so good!!! I wish they had a location in LA. PS - their calamansi soda was so good, we had to get seconds! Thank you for satisfying our cravings! read more
