cute and chill spot for your next matcha craving! Been seeing this place online and wanted to try it out. The matcha was good to me. It wasn't too sweet which was nice. Price wise it was relatively affordable compared to other matcha spots for the quality of it. I like how you can watch the process of your drink getting made with the open concept.
In my opinion, Mako Matcha Mill has the best matcha in Portland. I haven't tried it all but I've tried a good amount and this stuff is so tasty, whether hot or iced or flavored or not. Their soft serve is great too. This matcha gives a caffeine kick in the way my daily multiple cups of coffee don't (don't judge me). I also appreciate that they try to educate the customer on where the matcha comes from, how they mill it, what grade it is, etc. I love the interior - from the quality wood furniture to the beautiful natural fabrics hanging from the ceiling to the murals to the rotating artist features. Yes, they do get very busy, but they keep the drinks coming out pretty darn quick for a drink that is hand-whisked every time. I also love their partnership with Masu upstairs to sell small bites. It's always great to see local businesses collaborating!
Mako Matcha Mill is a solid spot to grab some matcha in PDX. To get here, there are some street parking spots directly in front of the shop or tons of other street parking around the area. Inside, they have a spacious setup with a good amount of seating. All the homies and I got matcha and I opted for the Mango Coconut Matcha. I liked the subtle flavor profile and thought it was solid. All of the staff here are very chill and welcoming.
I got an Earl Grey matcha latte with oat milk. My drink was not sweetened I think or the earl Grey syrup was not enough and I had to add 2 squeezes of the simple syrup. Nice of them to have on the side, but if I am getting a drink with syrup in it I hope it would be enough. I want to try their other drinks and give it another try. There's some seating inside and you can sit in front of the baristas and watch them make drinks. My friends enjoyed the strawberry matcha and blueberry matcha.
Cute matcha spot. The girl who took our order was knowledgeable in each of the matcha powders they provided. My friend and I got the competition grade matcha. Pretty cool that they mill their own matcha and you can watch them make your matcha. As you can see from the picture, both our matcha had a nice vibrant green color but there was a lot of small clumpy pieces of matcha that made experience less favorable. For the price of the matcha, I would expect no clumps. It's a place to try once and that's it for me.
I just left and I'm already excited to go back. The space is beautiful and calm with some comfortable chairs and flat benches. The tea maker was friendly and helpful. I ordered the strawberry cheesecake matcha latte and they said it's one of the most popular flavors. It's beautifully layered and I like that you can taste the components separately if you want or immediately stir it all together for a fixed flavor profile. The cheesecake layer on top had a natural flavor with a creamy finish. The matcha was bright and earthy. The strawberry was also natural with a mild to medium sweetness. The sweetness was well balanced and there's simple syrup for those who prefer a more sweet drink. I'll be back to try some Kill Green matcha blends for a pure matcha experience, but I will definitely order more flavored matchas in the future.
Stopped by early Saturday morning on a vacation with friends, and the matcha was worth it! The staff were friendly, helpful, and chatty. I enjoyed my Jasmine Matcha Latte, and the jasmine was quite subtle, coming out more towards the last half of the drink. My friends also enjoyed their drinks here! The shop is nice and cozy, with cute decoration, impressive monstera plants, and nice seating. Because we arrived soon after opening, the prepared food they sell like Sandos hadn't arrived yet, but I won't hold that against them.
I love matcha and the drinks here are so good. It wasn't too sweet either, it was perfect for me. Busy when I went but I didn't mind the wait. I'll be coming back here the next time I'm in Portland. I recommend trying this place if you love matcha as well!
I thought I didn't like matcha until I came here. It was so good that I had a cup every morning of my stay in Portland. If I lived in the area, it would certainly be the place I could relax in and read/doodle/journal/etc.. On top of it all, all the workers were very very very nice.

We had iced coconut cloud which was smooth and tasty. The Type 2 macha latte from kill green menu (competition grade which is available only at Mako) was delicious! No wonder this place is packed.
There's a handful of really good matcha places in Portland, but this one is my favorite. The staff is very knowledgeable and they bring their own mill to the business so that you can have choice premium tea milled right before your very eyes. The staff here are very friendly, and the prices are very affordable (though if you are a true head, you can go buck wild with some of the best in the world straight from the motherland in Japan). Everybody there is so nice and friendly and even though you gotta go into downtown Portland to get it, it's well worth it. Take it from someone who loves matcha and drinks it every single day. This place is top-notch and has something for everybody, including specialty cold foam drinks, inventive creations, and their own soft serve machine with rotating flavors.
I loved mako matcha mill!! From the cutest interior to the most delicious cream top matcha latte. It was so creamy, just the amount of sweet, and a large portion size. The line went super quick and service was also super fast. Highly recommend this somewhat hidden gem!
honestly, an amazing price point and great size options for their matcha drink. they also seem to make their own syrup as well and have a nice drink variety on menu! however.... they do have a heavy hand and make the drinks TOO sweet for me which is a shame im a big fan of jasmine matcha drinks in general and picked that drink up here. good drink and color but a tad too much sweetner used in my opinion. very affordable drink tho
What a cute place! Located on a side street, parking might be a little hard to find here but across the street there was a parking lot available. Menu is a bit small but everything is made fresh. You can watch the staff whisking the matcha. We ordered the banana matcha, pandan matcha, and the regular matcha latte. All were really good and enjoyable. I really enjoyed my pandan matcha. The matcha taste was strong and had a good taste. Inside is really nice and has a great atmosphere. Few tables to sit at. Would recommend coming here. read more
Wow! The matcha here was really impressive! I was impressed by the ceremonial matcha menu and got the #4 matcha as a hot oat latte while my boyfriend tried an iced banana cream matcha latte. Loved the #4 matcha which was strong and earthy but well balanced with the oat milk. You can really taste the quality. The banana cream matcha was yummy as well if you're looking for more of a fun drink. Appreciated that it was not too sweet! The space is really nice as well with enough tables and seats to stay for a bit. A really nice gem in downtown Portland, it's the perfect spot to unwind after exploring and shopping around. read more
This is arguably some of the best matcha i've ever had. It is true ceremonial grade matcha, earthy and delicious. It's not too sweet and not too bitter. It is absolutely perfect. Customer service is great, and it's a cute little shop. This is a must try when in PDX! We ordered the pandan matcha latte and a brown sugar latte and they were both 10/10... no notes. Will be going back tomorrow! read more

Hands down the best matcha cafe in Portland I have had so far! The matcha is premium quality, I mean look at that shade of green! Their flavors are lovely without overpowering the matcha itself. Some of the best matcha soft serve that I have ever had was from Mako. The staff is all very friendly and the vibes inside the cafe are good for catching up with friends. Maybe not a study space if you're into that though. Overall, great spot :) read more
Quick service. It seems like a great place to study and hangout. I've been heard a few times now and noticed that it has always been packed! This newly opened matcha shop might just be a favorite for me! Although parking is a bit annoying as it is in downtown Portland, this cozy shop is a great spot to chat with a friend or get some work done. Their menu has some of the most affordable prices that I've seen and not only do they offer matcha, but they also offer teas and hojicha as well. They also have a variety of syrups to customize your drink and the option to switch to a milk alternative (oat) comes at no added cost. I got their matcha latte with jasmine syrup while my friend got their strawberry latte. Both were delicious but I thought the strawberry was better as the jasmine wasn't very fragrant (it was just sweet). Nonetheless, it was amazing and I would definitely come back. read more
An awesome new matcha spot! Inside is super pretty and cozy. They curated their space very well. I especially love the counter seats where you can watch the baristas in action. They have a rotating menu with fun syrups and cold foam. We tried the Match Latte and Latte with Ube Syrup. I honestly liked the Latte with Ube more than I thought! Perfectly creamy and sweet. The Matcha was alright to me, maybe it'd be better hot and with some sweetness. The Spam Musubi was a nice snack with our drinks. Prices were good as well. Would come back to try more! read more

Lovely experience at Mako Matcha Mill! The staff was incredibly friendly and knowledgeable, and I really enjoyed learning more about their matcha. I had a matcha latte that was balanced + smooth. I ended up grabbing a tin of their matcha that was milled in Oregon to take back home with me. Definitely one of my favorite matcha stops in PDX! read more
Cute and spacious cafe nestled in downtown portland with beautiful wooden decor. We came about a week after opening on Sat, waited about 40 mins. Decent line but moved fast enough. A small 12oz matcha latte is $4 and large 20oz is $6. They use 4g matcha for small and 7g for large. We got the regular matcha latte and jasmine matcha latte. The only difference is the jasmine syrup! DEFINITELY get the jasmine matcha - it adds a subtle floral jasmine flavor that complements the matcha well. For the matcha itself, it has a lovely grassy with just the right amount of light bitterness to cut through the milk. The price is so affordable and refreshing for this day and age considering they mill their own matcha in store!! I'm not sure if there's any other matcha cafes in the US that mill their own matcha.They also hand whisk EACH drink instead of batching! This is my new fav matcha spot. Even though it's all the way in downtown, it's worth the drive and the wait. read more

I've been back several times since the soft opening and the experience always gets better. I like seeing the new decor that populates the shelves. It's also nice to see all the baristas behind the bar getting a hang of things. The matchas here compared to many other Portland spots is STRONG. This is perfect for me because I always could use the extra caffeine but if that's not your preference it might taste off to you. Also -- still don't know if they're serving their in-house milled matcha yet, so staying tuned for that. Matcha w/ strawberry syrup: 5/5. Great viscosity. I like my fruit syrups more jam-like and Mako's mixes well in the drink. read more
This place was so cute. I tried the strawberry cheesecake cake matcha and I give it a 7/10. The absolute STAR of the show which is not pictured here is the mochi they sell at the register. It's like a mango flavored small little pack of it that I brought back with me to California and I can't stop thinking about it. read more
The day of the soft opening there weren't many people there. The matcha was only $2.00 and another $1.00 if you wanted frothy cream on top. They even offered a complimentary tea flight. It was spectacular. A few days later there was a huge line so we skipped it. A week later we were back and the line inside was short. They were still serving a limited menu. I got their regular iced matcha with oat milk and cream. The vibe is very trendy and clamoring with loud conversation. The aesthetic is simple and serene in quite a juxtaposition to the loud atmosphere. There is plenty of seating so go get your matcha on. 2026 - Review # 8 read more

my first stop on this trip to pdx was Mako Matcha Mill!! Verdict: best matcha i've ever had so far!! everyone in portland is so nice and the baristas were so fun and chatty, complimented my vintage green bag (made me super happy cos i love this bag so much lol) and even remembered me from my bag when i came back a couple of days later. Interior is soo cute and modern with natural accents. Both times I went it was pretty busy but my order was taken and also made pretty fast. The vibes from the employees is very positive I ordered a regular matcha latte with oat milk and simple syrup. A really good, classic order and the matcha had a strong flavor that blended well with the oat milk! They use Califia i think which is the best oat milk in my opinion lol. Menu is still small and it seems like it changes every day? Not sure but they do have a variety of options for milk and sweetener (jasmine, ube, blueberry, etc). When I come back in September, i'd like to try a matcha latte with a jasmine sweetener! read more

Got the Jasmine matcha and it was pretty good ! I appreciated that the Jasmine did not outshine the matcha (like many places do). It was the perfect sweetness and for a good price ! I think the matcha flavor could've been stronger but I can't wait to give this place and their other drinks more tries !! read more

It was pretty busy, but the space felt cozy and the staff were friendly and patient while getting everything figured out! We ordered a matcha latte with oat milk and a matcha latte with whole milk. The matcha leans more grassy and earthy with light umami flavor so it's great if you like a stronger matcha taste. I'd suggest going half sweet if you really want to taste the matcha flavor, but full sweet is great for those who prefer something sweeter and smoother. Nice little spot to relax, catch up with friends, or grab a drink while walking around the area. I'm excited to check it out again in the near future to try the rest of their menu. This matcha was amazing! I tried the mango matcha and it was perfectly sweet and very refreshing. The line moved quickly, and the actual store was very pleasant with some seating. The staff were also very kind in helping to explain what was in the different drinks. read more
Nice ambiance, free wifi, bathroom, seats and tables. Service was fast and nice as well. Matcha was quite good, but the Matcha Jasmine Latte I got does not have any jasmine taste or fragrance at all. I'll just get a matcha latte next time. read more

I had one of their special drink of the day. The carrot cake matcha. It had carrot juice and topped with crumbles. It was a nice, light and refreshing drink. I really enjoyed it. The place was busy and had a line, but it went pretty fast with the super nice and speedy matcha mixers. read more
