One of our favorite coffee roasters in the country. When we land in pdx, we cannot wait to get back here and enjoy a wonderful coffee! Got a latte with their Ethiopia natural beans and it was lovely, roasty and bright within being acidic. We were debating between beans to take home and they also let us sample the brewed coffee version of the beans to make a decision, which was super nice. PushXPull is one of my favorite coffee shops because their beans are phenomenal. They know what they're doing in terms of roasting. My chief complaint is their customer service. I have probably spent a couple thousand dollars on their business. Not being able to pour my cup of coffee in a to-go cup when leaving is ridiculous and not standard practice. I found this out the hard way when I had ordered a drip coffee for here and, when leaving, the women kinda snapped at me when I kindly asked for an 8oz to-go cup. I'm on their bi weekly coffee subscription. I'm located in Portland and my bag of beans was routed from Portland to Detroit, then San Francisco then back to my home in Portland on my last order. How odd. I tried reaching out to them to figure out what's going on and there is no way of contacting their business. Their website has no contact information and I called multiple times and no one would pick up the phone. I finally found a personal gmail account linked to their business somewhere on their google business profile but no one ever responded to me. I find it to be very odd that they're running an online business, you can't contact them, and they don't have anyone attending customer service. That's very bad practice. If it weren't for how good the coffee is, PushXPull would be dead last on my preferred coffee shop. I'll update my review once these issues are addressed. read more

The ambience, food, and the coffee are all hard to top once you've been to Push X Pull. What even is a Bolo? Does it matter? Get one in Standard Sandwich form and another with the amazing jam (recently was balsamic fig). (Side note: A bolo is a Portuguese muffin, so good it's actually hard to believe... the English have nothing on the Portuguese when it comes to muffins!) The service is so good, each barista treating you like a friend, offering honest recommendations that will lead to an amazing experience each time. The cold brew is so so good. I have heard so much good stuff about them that coming here wasn't a 'shot in the dark' and maybe the start of a brew-tiful connection. I was fortunate to find parking right away and was attended immediately . I ordered a cappuccino and a cookie and decided to stay instead of having it to-go . The vibe is relaxed and easy and there is plenty of light. The staff was kind and fast . The coffee however felt a little lacking , in my humble opinion it felt slightly acidic and not creamy enough for a cappuccino . The cookie was delicious on the other hand . Even though my first experience didn't knock my socks of , I am still looking forward to coming back to experience that espresso magic that I had been hearing about. read more

I wanted to try a maple macchiato but the drink comes in a smaller size so We tried the maple latte and vanilla latte instead. Both were good. Didn't taste much maple syrup though. Plus point is coffee were sweet enough with a good flavor of coffee still. Not overly sweet. We also got a coffee bean bag to try at home. Only wish they would have a stamp logo brand on their coffee cups. But with this economy everything is so expensive so I understand some places just use simple plain cups. Ughhh I cannot say enough good things! I am more than ready to come again any chance I get. First of all I love the clean semi industrial hip retro classroom takeover vibe happening here. Staff is super helpful and clearly have expertise in their craft. We really had come to get some beans as we had had Push x Pull from other farther away cafes. I was beyond with all of the options that they had. In fact, making a choice to try to somewhat limit the amount of bags was a significant challenge. I could have easily brought home the entire row of clear bagged beans. Truly a great selection with incredible tasting notes. Their cafe menu is excellent with the standard options as well as some house specials. My partner got the pour over which was amaziiiiiing. The tonic special that I ordered was wonderful. I can be kind of picky with mixed drinks, as i feel that the added flavors tend to be overpowering. That was not the case here, as I thought that the added flavors did not overshadow the brilliant coffee flavor. read more

Push x Pull was a great last stop while in Portland. We decided to grab coffee while here. My pour over INCREDIBLE, and my friends really enjoyed their lattes. We all grabbed second drinks (had a lot of time to kill), and they had a pretty decent wine selection. I got a glass of their red and enjoyed it a lot. I like the minimal interior design - they have some indoor and outdoor tables but I could see it getting packed pretty easily. I got the Suzy with oat milk ($7.25), and it was delicious! This is a pretty cool place located off Stark. We came here before getting breakfast down the street. I tried their Thirst Trap - which was an expresso tonic with a strawberry and lime cordial. 4.5 experience on my first visit to this coffee house with a super dope name. Push X Pull is located in a what seems to be an "up and coming" area in terms of new businesses and prospects and with such a welcoming nature they're what makes Portland great. I had a cappuccino with, and this was my mistake, almond milk, 99% of the time I order with oat milk. It was still smooth and rich, and beans really coming through. I wish it was just a hint hotter, but it was still great. The space is simple, maybe too simple as the line to order when long will trap you in, not a bad problem to have. Customer service was genuine and welcoming, I can't wait to return and this is easily in my top 20 coffee experiences I've had in Multnomah County. read more

Save your money and go literally anywhere else. The matcha at Push and Pull tastes awful -- like they've never actually had real matcha in their lives. On top of that, I was rudely told to put on headphones or end my phone call the moment I walked in, even though the place was already loud with nonstop chatter and music. If that's how they treat paying customers, it explains a lot. A very discriminating environment if you have long hair and a beard they will single you out and make you feel unwelcomed. The seats are also so uncomfortable that my entire lower half went numb. This place needs a complete attitude and culture change. Until then, don't waste your time. read more

Push X Pull has a cool space with plenty of natural lighting, communal table, and then seating area to enjoy your drinks. It wasn't too busy during the time I visited but they seemed to be short staffed so drinks took much longer than expected. Got the standard vanilla latte but it was nice to enjoy in the space with all their large windows to be able to people watch on a weekend. Coffee was solid and enjoyed my cup. Would be open to coming another time to try other drinks and see their service. read more

Never getting coffee here imagine an employee walking up to you mid conversation on the phone with your partner and tells you to "adjust your phone call" WTF!!!! Mind you they have their loud music playing I could barely hear my partner and in the background a group of loud people. You think you a local coffee shop holds up higher standards but not this place! Now this is a coffee shop not a library, if the loud noise is distracting you then you're working at the wrong place boo. Stopped by here to get out of the house and do some work. Came in on a Saturday and it had a good amount of street parking available so it wasn't hassle. The place had a good amount of seating available and there was wifi available to use. Not many outlets, so just be aware to have your electronics fully charged prior to going if you'll be there for awhile. Ordered a latte with oat milk and it came out with a cute design. The coffee itself left a bit to be desired. The ratio for milk to coffee wasn't what I would prefer, and the taste of the the grind wasn't as prevalent as I would have liked. The latte was warm, so I wish it came out a little hotter so I could enjoy it for a longer period of time. Not a bad spot overall, but I don't think I'd make a trip out if it unless I was already in the area. read more

The baristas were very nice and friendly. I ordered cappuccino with almond milk and three teas - lemongrass turmeric, oolong, and mix of green and black. Coffee: couldn't make myself drink it. The milk was overpowering the taste of espresso and because of that I couldn't really taste the coffee. Please consider changing your milk brands - Califia tastes like something so artificial I couldn't taste coffee in 6 oz cappuccino. Lemongrass turmeric tea - spicy due to ginger, so try not to over brew like I did! Oolong - very good but tasted like most oolongs - expected something different. Also try to drink fast because it will be bitter. I'd recommend giving people bigger mugs because while I was drinking 70% of tea the rest was so concentrated after a while I couldn't drink it. Black & green tea mix: didn't taste like tea, tasted like hot water with a hint of tea. Regarding the atmosphere: it was a business meeting and we couldn't hear each other so we left as soon as possible. read more

The cappuccino here was good in ways that I didn't know a cappuccino could be good. It was like a great chocolate bar, not so much because of the chocolatey notes (there were some), but because it had a tartness that hit the back parts of my tongue in a way that only great chocolate, sushi, and maybe some pour-overs have .... but I personally hate pour-overs, because they're just too often overwhelmingly sour for my palate. The interior is a bit small, so it doesn't make the best hangout spot; however, the windows are nice because they let a lot of sun in. The staff were excellent at answering our questions on the various roasts to choose from. The prices are closer to what you would expect in Portland, not the most budget-friendly, however, worth the experience. The shockwave pour-over was really unique! If they ever have the China LAO XU ZHAI Espresso as an option when you come in, this is one of the most unique shots of coffee you will ever have! My friend is obsessed with espresso and found this place after doing some deep research. Upon arrival he started a 20x minute conversation with the barista about all things coffee. I definitely learned a lot listening about coffee types, pulls, pushes, flavors and pretty much anything an espresso lover would converse about. The coffee was really good! It makes me want to try more mom and pop coffee shops! This place also has a lot of seating and tables for people to hangout and study or chill. The way I see things, there are two levels of coffee shops I enjoy going to: those that are comfy and, while the coffee is average, serve as a nice third space in the community where I can go to get out of the house and hang out. Then there are those where the coffee is bomb, where Portland coffee lives up to its name -- strangely these are usually ever so slightly less comfy to hang out in, with the decor focused on hipness rather than comfort. Form over function, you might say. Push X Pull is one of the latter spaces. Beautiful, trendy decor (love the turquoise motif), slightly uncomfortable chairs and benches. But oh the coffee... the coffee is in that upper echelon that gives Portland the reputation it deserves as Coffee City USA. Every drink I've had has been great, and well prepared by the skilled baristas. Latte art is on point, people. They source and roast their own beans, which are naturally dried. I'm not sure how that affects the flavor, I'm not an expert ok? But it's good. And bougie. Food-wise they have a nice little menu of fresh pressed waffles and breakfast sandwiches on bolo bread; can't go wrong either way. There's also an interesting list of special/seasonal drinks which are all fun to try. My only complaint is here, because in the 2ish years I've been coming to PxP that list has never changed! Minus 1/2 an imaginary star... Overall, this is a trendy coffee shop and roaster whose espresso drinks are in Portland's top tier. read more

An awesome coffee roaster located in East Burnside. There's plenty of street parking and shops within walking distance to eat at, check out, or drink at. I forgot to take a pic but we ordered a bag of their Colombia Finca which had notes of raisins. We ground and brewed that after returning home to CA and it was superb. We visited on two separate occasions and ordered a cortado and iced vanilla latte with almond milk each time. Such a great cup of coffee and some place I'd revisit again and again. Great coffee base with unique flavors on top, all presented with a cute design in a big bright yellow cup. My black-coffee-loving friends went for a straight drip pour. The vibe here is cool. Some folks were working on their laptops, others reading, others chatting or having meetings. Music was good and not too loud. A variety of tables for bar, booth, or table seating. Only thing that would be better is a comfy couch I could sit on all day! :) Wood furniture, teal colors, big windows. The baristas greeted some folks like they were regulars. I signed up for their coffee subscription. It's on the pricey side at $22 per shipment so I probably won't do it for long. But if all their beans are as good as the prepared latte was... then maybe. We get coffees and sit down to work, like everyone else here because coffee shops are no longer places for conversation, they are work spaces for lease. Forgot my headphones so now I have to listen to multiple people taking calls, in a coffee shop. The art school seats albeit nostalgic are not comfortable. Then there's the fruit flies crowding the table. I'm ducking and dodging flies. Hopefully one doesn't land in my coffee. The person who took our order mistakenly made it to go, so we can't even enjoy our coffee like others. I've been here once before so I know the drip gets a refill so I ask for one, but the barista says no because I have a to go cup, then asks if I'd like an explanation why, to which I respond "no". The person taking my order immediately leaves the station so now I can't even order. I'm not even being difficult, I just want to carry on with my order, but the barista insists on telling me why even though the explanation is unsolicited. I didn't want an explanation, just to order coffee and sit back down. If you want the free coffee be very explicit that you want a 8oz drip coffee for here. The coffee is pretty good, music much to my liking. If they wanted to live up to the indie vibe at least play music from the records and tapes lining the place instead of just using them as props. I liked drinking my coffee from a mug the first time, but this second visit I saw a different side of Push X Pull. The magic is gone. Portland has so many coffee shops, won't go out of my way to come here anymore. The feeling is mutual I'm sure, because customers here are treated like they are disposable. read more

The nice gentleman behind the counter was genuinely friendly, knowledgeable and knew I needed my coffee quickly b/c I was on the clock. I have been here quite a few times. I feel like I'm teleported to LA where you get served coffee with an attitude. I do warn people before we go in "they ate extremely rude, but the coffee is great". Today I went in and decided this is the LAST time I will be coming in. The person making the coffee was EXTREMELY rude and disrespectful. They just stared and made rude comments. It's an extremely uncomfortable place to visit. I won't be coming back or bringing people back! It's a beautiful place with great coffee. However don't expect anyone to be nice or you. (Except the girl works the register) One of the people in our party is currently going through chemo and we thought, let's get him a nice coffee. The same person making his coffee was a absolutely rude to him. If you see a guy with a dad hat and dad sweater, don't expect him to be even fake nice to you. This place has been open and brewing coffee for how long? If you hear their slogan it's "ROASTING COFFEE SINCE A COUPLE OF DAYS AGO"which is kind of a cool saying. Looking at their Yelp reviews, they've been doing it since 2018. How the hell have I never heard of them before? It's a casual retro vibe that strikes you as you step through the door. It's a hipster analog vibe in this digital world. I can easily see someone posted up with a typewriter here wasting the day away working on their prose. Now what we really came here for was the coffee. What we got was excellent espresso poured with fantastic latte art by the quirky duo behind the bar. Dude's latte art was slightly better than the gal's but both were as good as you'll find anywhere else. You get what you pay for here. I think both of our drinks totaled around $11-12. Probably about the going rate these days, not sure if there's a Vegan tax for swapping to oatmilk or not.
