We had a wonderful experience through Airbnb, where we tried ancient chocolate, learned about the history of chocolate, and made our own chocolate bars. The chocolate was incredible, and the educational portion was fascinating. Michael is clearly passionate and very knowledgeable. The shop itself is lovely, with a charming interior and a variety of innovative chocolate products. I especially recommend their drinking chocolate as it is delightfully rich without being overly sweet. Overall, a memorable and delicious experience!

I returned from a trip to Central America and was inspired to try some specialty chocolate. Roste did not disappoint!

Interesting little spot. Reminds me of a place on the coast down at Cannon Beach. We opted for a Mexican Mocha and a Mocha Freeze (I think it was called). Service was welcoming. We waited a few minutes for our drinks. This is a "fancy" chocolate spot, so prices are moderate. They do have pastries, an assortment of chocolate beverages as well as full espresso bar, and of course chocolate! The ambiance was really chill with music in the background. Simple but somewhat elegant decor. Very quiet. We did enjoy our drinks--although I definitely should have gotten a small instead of a large as the Mexican Mocha was very rich.

Single-Origin Chocolate Beverages, House-Made Pastries, and Futura Coffee & Espresso Drinks. Located in the Pearl District at 475 NW 14th Ave, Portland OR 97209. Next to 10 Barrel Brewing Open 10AM - 6PM Tuesday - Sunday! Phone: 1(971) 339-9014 info@rostechocolate.com I picked up some chocolates here. Lots of dark chocolate and a few other types. They even have house made marshmallows. The store is quaint and dark toned. Service was okay here. Not very friendly. Food: 4/5 stars. The Gianduja is smooth and silky. Not sweet, dark chocolate with hazelnut notes. Service: 2.5/5 stars Ambiance: 4/5 stars

this is my happy place. I've had many great chocolate experiences and this is the best!

If you need a little sweet treat while exploring Portland you need to stop in here! I am not a coffee person but sometimes you want a little beverage and Roste popped up on my map with their drinking chocolate. There were two chocolate varieties when I went, India and Indonesia with different tasting notes but both 70% cacao. The cashier asked if I wanted to sample which was super helpful! I ended up going with India which was a little fruity and a little caramelly - so delicious. You get a 4oz cup of the chocolate and a little shot of seltzer. Normally I don't go for fizzy water but it was the perfect companion for the rich chocolate! You also get a small cup of fresh whipped cream. This drink perfectly satisfied my sweet tooth and now I wish my city had a drinking chocolate cafe!

I ordered the Mexican hot chocolate and it was definitely too strong and too rich for my liking, however my partner ordered a latte that was pretty good. The inside is large and pretty cute. I do wish there were more vegetarian breakfast options other than pastries. They have a great drinks menu though that's pretty diverse.

I was downtown craving a sweet treat and I knew there was no better place to go than Roste. As soon as you walk in, the smell is overwhelmingly delicious. Choose from their pastries, drinks, or sample some chocolate about as straight as you can get it. I recommend dining in and leaving plenty of time to savor your chocolate rather than having to shove it down. This is best when savored! Alternately, consider booking a tasting class with chocolatier Michael. It's very informative and well worth your while to learn how everything is made and to contrast chocolate sourced from different regions.

This place has the best chocolate I really enjoyed the s'mores brownie. I think about it sometimes just randomly I can taste the cacao in their chocolate so fresh so yummy so rich.

Walked in here on a rainy Sunday afternoon. It was pretty busy but staff was friendly and helpful. We found a seat easily and our drinks came out relatively quick. We ordered the sipping chocolate. The setup was adorable. It came with the chocolate , whipped cream to add and sparkling water to cleanse the palate. This was the best time I had with my niece. It gave us a nice moment to enjoy conversation while sipping something yummy.

Mothers is a great place to eat downtown, but I'd recommend making reservations or at least calling ahead. They get busy! Service was very friendly and our server checked in on us an acceptable number of times. Everyone we interacted with was also friendly and warm. The food came out quickly, hot, and prepared correctly. All items were quite tasty. It's not exactly gourmet in terms of you taking a bite and thinking it's the best thing you've ever eaten, but it's solid. I really want to try dinner there. Ambience is busy and bustling. Really it's what you'd expect for a downtown diner. This is the kind of place I would take people to who are coming in from out of town and I'm not sure how adventurous they are (mom & pop from Ohio for example) We will definitely eat here again.

But when our server was with us, they were very nice and patient with my questions and requests. It's a bit loud when the place is on the full side, making it difficult to have a conversation. I wouldn't bring my girlfriend who is hard of hearing, at least with a group. I'd be curious to try more of the menu. I was very much not wowed by the breakfast. The beverages were however very nice, and I recently had the cobbler dessert and it looked amazing and tasted better. We had the coffee (Extracto, love.), I had a really good hef and my mother a very well balanced Bellini that I was very pleasantly surprised with trying. From what I saw, the lunch sounds very good and I'd be more apt to recommend folks give that a shot if they happened to be going there too. I'm not sure if I'd recommend as a must go stop. Vibe wise, the ambience is overall really nice. I think having rolled flatware, even with just upgraded napkins, would better complete the aesthetic you initially see and feel. This would also connect with the price point of the food and quality of the beverages. As a fellow server, on that note I would expect more consistent stronger visual appearance standards with servers. (Sorry guys! But some of you looked great!) Overall, I'd definitely join a friend for coffee and lunch over there in the future. Just wouldn't be my top pick for a celebratory brunch or intimate dinner with a date or friends and fam.

It's upscale ice cream... are you expecting to be disappointed?…read more I'm sure you at least know Salt & Straw by reputation... it's the preeminent ice cream chain in Portland. And for good reasons! The flavors, taste and experience are truly phenomenal. I typically try to visit during the day so that there isn't a long line. If you come anytime after 6 PM, expect to wait a while. It's just that good! The staff is always incredibly friendly and they will let you sample as many flavors as you like before you decide. They have standard staples for flavors and then seasonal ones that rotate every few months. This particular location has very little seating so you should plan to take yours to go. I recommend enjoying it while you stroll on NW 23rd. Otherwise, the staff will be happy to pack up a scoop for you and/or you can take a pint to go! Parking is a typical challenge for this area, but prices are reasonable and you can't beat the service. My favorite part of the experience is that first step into the front door when I smell the fresh waffle cones being made. From beginning to end, it's a scrumptious culinary experience that can't be missed.
