Salted just right, the guacamole is served in a molcajete with a garnish of peeled grapes on a small vine. Those grapes had great flavor as well. The lunch specials were decent and we had a couple drinks which were tasty and visually appealing as well. I ordered the Enchiladas and to my surprise, when they were served, they were hot and cheesy. Took my first bite and was transported back to childhood, sitting at my abuela's mesa the surprise was pleasant and tugged at my heart strings. The plate comes with cilantro rice with a green color which was weird to me but very tasty. The beans were refried and had a great taste as well. We didn't get any tortillas so not sure that they serve them here. As the manager came around, I had to let him know that I was so pleasantly impressed at the transportation back to childhood. He verbalized his contentment at my experience when I simply came to celebrate my friend's birthday. Definitely will be back here again. 'lol

Giving two stars because the manager was very understanding and made us an entire third large fajita plate and when that one came out, it had significantly more meat on it, worthy of the $52 price tag! This place was my pregnancy craving four years ago and it has gone so downhill. The chipotle sauce, which really was the craving is now completely tasteless and has been for the past few visits. Ordering takeout from here is even worse. With 1000 Mexican restaurants in the area they could do so much better. Unfortunately, this restaurant has lost our business.

The entrance process was a bit confusing, but we eventually found the walkway leading to the host stand, where a sign instructed guests to wait to be seated. We waited patiently at the reception area and noticed a few guests already seated outside, others being served inside, and a bartender nearby preparing drinks. As time passed, several more parties lined up behind us. During the approximately 20 minutes we stood there, multiple staff members went in and out of the main dining room entrance, and the bartender was clearly aware of guests waiting. Not a single employee acknowledged us, offered an estimated wait time, or even said, "We'll be right with you." We understand that restaurants get busy, and we certainly weren't looking to cause a scene or demand special treatment. A simple acknowledgment would have gone a long way. Instead, after standing there for what felt like an eternity without anyone checking on us or the growing line behind us, we decided to leave. Sadly, our return visit ended before it even began. We headed over to our reliable favorite, the Gristmill, where we were promptly greeted and seated. While I can't speak to the quality of the food here, the lack of basic customer service and guest recognition left a very disappointing first impression. I hope management takes a closer look at the arrival and seating process because no guest should feel invisible the moment they walk through the door.

I am sad to say that I made my last visit to Adobe Cafe after 20+ years of being a loyal customer who recommended them often. This is thanks to the awful treatment I received from the general manager Justin Zercher this evening. My husband reached in and picked up a tortilla from the warmer and to our surprise, there was a hole in the middle and two bites taken out of the edge of the tortilla. I immediately picked up the warmer with the tortilla and went to the front to seek a manager. A gentleman came up and asked what the issue was and I showed him the tortilla and asked for new ones. He was very apologetic and advised he would bring us some fresh tortillas. Instead, our new tortillas were brought by Justin Zercher. He told us to enjoy and I replied I would as long as there were no bites taken out of these. He told me emphatically and repeatedly that he was certain there were no bites taken from the tortilla. He said they were brittle and that is how they came off the grill and I told him I saw the teeth marks. He proceeded to argue the point and kept repeating there were no bite marks but after each time would say "I'm not trying to argue with you " I asked him to bring me the tortilla and I would show him that there was a hole torn in the middle and two bites taken out of the edge, but he refused to bring me the tortilla and insisted it was just how it was cooked. I quit eating my meal (I had eaten less than a third) because I wasn't comfortable eating food from a kitchen that would send out used food. My husband and mom were not affected by this and continued to enjoy their meal. I waited for our waitress to come over and picked up my late and handed it across the table to her and said "please take this and remove it from my bill as I will not be paying for it". She asked me why and I told her I wasn't going to eat food from a kitchen that sent out tortillas with a bite out of them. She left and Justin Zercher returned to our table with our bill which did not have my plate removed. I looked at the bill and told him he needed to remove it because I wasn't paying for a meal I did not eat. He told me the tortilla wasn't bitten and I had eaten part of my meal so I had to pay for it. I told him there were bite marks and I saw them and I wasn't paying for my plate. And for the record, I agreed with Justin and told him I did not feel as if anyone in the kitchen took bites out of this tortilla and put it in the warmer to serve us. I told him that I felt we got a used warmer off another table. He told me that was impossible and ridiculous and could not have happened. Then his reasoning for not giving me a refund was that "you shoved your plate in my servers face". He then told me he would split the difference and I refused. I told him the bite marks were there and I would be happy to show them to him but he refused to bring the tortilla back. He then said, "do you really want it because I'll go get it." I told him I did want it so I could show it to him. He did bring it and again doubled down that theses were not bites, just the way brittle tortillas cook. I took a picture at this point which I am posting, so you be the judge. He walked away and returned with my check with my plate removed. I was very frustrated because I did not feel my request was unreasonable. All I asked for was for my plate of food which I did not get to eat and enjoy after the tortilla incident be removed. I had every expectation to pay for all the other food and drinks at the table. Had Justin Zercher just stayed away from our table I would not be writing this review and more importantly, I would still be a loyal Adobe customer. Mistakes happen in every industry, it's all about how you handle them that determines whether or not a customer will overlook it and give you another chance. Justin Zercher made it very clear that he does not value me as a customer. Edited to add that most people seeing the picture all agree this is not bite marks but indeed caused by the cooking process. While I am relieved to hear that I was not served used tortillas, I am keeping the 1 star rating due to how poorly this was handled by the manager. read more

Since my last review 6 months ago, I have been continually satisfied with the food quality at Adobe. I love the carnitas, moist, tender, and flavored perfectly, and I love the fajitas (shrimp, beef, and chicken). The shrimp they use here for all the dishes are huge, fresh, and grilled just right. Their tortilla soup is a welcomed necessity in the winter. Adobe has refreshed their menu and now has many more True Mexican dishes instead of Tex Mex. There are too many to name, so visit the website. I am glad that the owners have established a Yelp business account and are responding to their customer's comments. read more

We recently moved to New Braunfels and love Mexican food. After trying several other Mexican restaurants, we found Adobe Cafe! We eat there very frequently and the food, service, and value is fantastic. We dine out 2-3 per week and have found the most consistent food quality and service in this area has been Adobe every time!! The management is hands on and that always is a positive thing in a restaurant and goes a long way to keeping it's staff focused. We have never been disappointed with the food, service or atmosphere here!! read more

Overall we enjoy the food, ambiance, and service at the Adobe Cafe Tex Mex Cocina and the Adobe Verde. As a local, it is nice to take friends and out of town guests to a place where the food is good and the experience is too. I will say the last time I ordered meals to go, the girl who answered the phone seemed distracted, and I had to go over the order more than once. It was correct when I picked it up. The menu is what you might expect at a Tex-Mex type of cafe with huevos rancheros, enchiladas and similar offerings. My eggs were perfectly done over easy and were delicious with the home fries on a homemade tortilla. Prices are very reasonable as well. If you're traveling between Austin and San Antonio, this is a great place to stop for a solid meal. Recommended.

If coming with more than 6 consider calling ahead and asking for a reservation. They charge for chips and salsa. For the meal ask for all 3 salsa, the darker red quemada rocks. Really good food.
