The ice is nice and NHL rink has nice glass. The reason to be here in the first place...Play hockey. But the locker rooms are extremely small and disgusting in side them. Toilet was clogged with human poop in it, the base of the sink made from plywood and smells like mold. No detailed review needed here ... feels like you went back 40 years ago. Maintenance is majorly needed on this place at minimum if not a major overhaul. read more

Another year later, another Yelp and this place is still a dump. Locker rooms are small and cold with broken doors and no toilet paper should anyone need it. My son plays for a local hockey team and unfortunately we have to visit this rink once or twice a year. AHAI somehow chose this rink to host the state PeeWee playoffs this year! Not sure what they were smoking there. The staff here thinks their locker rooms are grand enough that they do an "inspection" prior to each visiting team leaving before you can get your deposit of your car key back. As if the locker room would be any worse! See attached photos. These photos are prior to any of our boys being in the locker room. It's just par for the course here. Sad. The saving grace is the Blue Line restaurant which does have friendly staff and decent bar food. read more

Really cool you can grab a bite and watch the skating. Nice that there is two rinks. The ice on both rinks has been Zamboni'd well when I've skated on them. Public skate is a little messy, because usually there are no guards, so when it's crowded it's really anything goes, which leads to people skating in different directions. I think $12 is a tad high for the adult public skate admission fee for an hour and a half of skating, but overall a pretty good rink. read more

I have been skating here my entire life. The ice is surprisingly amazing given the equipment the staff has to work with. The staff maintains the building extremely well, which must be difficult with the way the bruins players treat the facility. The Staff has always been friendly and helpful. I've seen many staff members overcome language barriers as many of the people who come to Addison ice Aren't fluent English speakers. addison has its downsides but they make the best of what they have and for That they deserve recognition. This review is a tough one. During my visit here recently, I found some aspects of the facility to be outstanding, while other parts needed some help. If you're coming here to skate, the ice is good, but the rink itself is in dire need of updating. The locker rooms are the tiniest I've seen in my life and at the end of our hockey game, some of us had to start taking off our equipment outside the room because there simply wasn't enough room for all of us. Two rinks, "NHL" and "Olympic". But if you're a spectator, things get a bit better. The atmosphere in the rink is the coldest I've ever experienced (which is great for the ice quality but not if you're sitting in the stands watching the action), so make sure you're bundled up. The good news is that you have an option. There's seating in the heated lobby behind one of the goals so you can watch the game in comfort if you choose. The best part of Addison Ice Arena? The bar. Plenty of seating either at the bar itself or in the surrounding tables. That, along with a TV within view from any angle makes unwinding at the end of your visit here most enjoyable. read more

Since I'm beginning to take my 6 year old around the area for speed skating meets, I get the feeling I will become well acquainted with the various ice rinks in the Chicago area. Addison has the look of an old-fashioned rink, with rather plain exterior walls. It is somewhat out of the way, almost on a back street, with residential homes in the immediate area. Inside, the place has a decent seating area to watch the rink from the comfort of the corridor outside the glass. For those spectators, while they don't hear the action, at least they are not cold. As for the seating inside the stadium, now that's cold. Addison is probably the coldest place I've been to, compared to Oakton, Franklin Park and Pettit in Milwaukee too. Be sure to dress warmly if you are going in there, especially if you are a spectator and won't be working up a sweat in a race. The size of the rink is larger than Oakton. It has a good sized waiting area just as you come into the ice area, enough for a couple hockey teams to gather. The bleachers are on one side and the player/official boxes are on the opposite side. In the lobby area, there is a separate restaurant/bar area called Blue Line Bar & Grill. While I didn't go in there, it is convenient to have it next to the rink, since there are not many restaurants in the area unless you head back to North Ave. The upstairs area of the venue has a room big enough to do warmup exercises. It also has mirrors on the walls and railings like a dance studio. It also makes for a meeting room before and after a race. It is also bigger than what's at Oakton by comparison. If anything, I think the place can be cleaner. I noticed the glass on the rink and in the hallway area was pretty smudged up. In the bathroom, there was a hole in the wall that was filled with garbage inside. Otherwise, it's a good-sized rink with good amenities. read more

The locker rooms were freezing, and I heard the stands were freezing too. You could literally see your breath. The locker rooms are so small that my team had to go into 2 different locker rooms, since we couldn't all fit into one. The boards were really thin, too. The ice itself was fine though. read more

The last time I went here the rinks were great and cheap, however the skates were in the worst condition ever. They were super worn out, some laces weren't even long enough to tie, I had to change my skates 3 times and I sill wasn't completely satisfied. Other than that, if you buy your own skates, the ice is really nice and even. read more

Tricky review because it is a very unbalanced place. * LOCKER-ROOMS are miserable: smallest, least comfortable I have ever experienced. The team jokes that it was modeled after Soviet standards. So little space, we have to take turns dressing for games. * ICE QUALITY is hit & miss depending on the day. This place is a dump. Horrible facilities. Locker rooms are unsanitary and should be shut down by the health department. They even had a lice incident. The ice is unsafe, the boards are leaning over and none of the equipment works properley. Lawsuit waiting to happen. It's a real shame, considering they have a great hockey program. Rink doesn't take temps at the door and does a poor job of enforcing social distancing protocols. Even when you reserve ice a week in advance they will not honor your reservation, the skating director at that rink is disorganized and will lash out at coaches and skaters when she gets pressure from her management. I've seen it happen a number of times. Addison has been our home rink for the past 3 years. On Friday I was pulled off a session I reserved a week in advance yet when I showed up I was told I had to coach my 6 year old daughter from the boards because I don't coach for a living! I have the same USFSA coaching certifications and insurance as any other coach trying to get on that day. I paid my fees and invested in getting my coaching certification and insurance just so I could coach my daughter and avoid rink conflict. The time I spend in a rink is time I'm not making money at my livelihood but I choose to prioritize my 6 year daughter and her love for skating. That doesn't make me less of a coach. What's the point in reserving ice ahead of time if the rink is just going to over allocate slots regardless. Rink is dirty and the ice is nasty. My daughter gets white paint all over her skating clothes from the ice. If you have the option to skate at another rink I recommend you do so. Addison doesn't have a moral compass and could careless if any of their employees on staff discriminates against a fellow long time patron of the rink. read more

Never thought I would write a review of an ice rink...During a huge hockey tournament my son's team was about to start a playoff game when the Zamboni caught fire and the entire rink was engulfed with smoke. It smelled like burning plastic! The staff at the rink said they could not call the fire department without the manager who was on his way. WHAT!? We were not goofing around with our children breathing in toxins so one of the parents from our team called the fire department himself. They took a couple of minutes and cleared us to play even though the smoke still remained and the smell was horrific. A few days later, my son and I are still coughing! read more

Came with a group for public skate. Really disappointed. Ice chopped up, Skate rentals were terrible: dull blades, uncomfortable, dirty and old laces, missing parts for lacing. Returned one skate or a refund. Will not be coming back. read more
