Looking for something to do some afternoon, either for yourself or with the kids? Go ice skating! And what better place than Fox Valley Ice Arena. They do it right here, you're going to have a blast! We came on a normal afternoon and found the place to be inviting and well taken care of. Having been to other rinks in the area this one definitely falls at the top of the heap. It feels a bit pricey but, I think, you're paying up for a quality spot. This place has it all: skate rental, lockers, skate aids, food, seats to spectate, the whole nine yards! And, like I said, it's all well taken care of; and clean too! Not to mention the staff, which is ample and friendly. We had a blast skating for about 1.5 hours and even grabbed a snack at the on-site bar/restaurant (that has full view of the rink! Cool!). North rink is great... south rink is a work in progress. I wish we lived closer, because it would be great to catch a Chicago Steel game here. As for youth hockey, it's a nice venue to visit. My son likes the ice here and the seating is great on the North rink. The South rink seems to always be under construction and there was one game a few months back where there were not enough seats for all the parents. There's a Rookie's Pub attached, so it's a perfect complement to watch a game and have a meal (and a beer). The area snack shop is on the expensive side, so it's hard to justify going there when you can have a nicely cooked meal at Rookie's for a few dollars more. The snack shop should really try to compete by offering competitive prices and options. I saw the comment about no drinking water from 2022. Well, it's almost 2023 and the fountains still don't work, though the bottle filler does. There's a lot of ticky, tacky complaints from other reviews, but overall, you'll enjoy your time here. read more

The Fox Valley valley Ice Arena is home to the Chicago steel as well as a very nice hockey and figure skating facility. Though this is not our home rink we alway like to play hockey here. The Ice is excellent on both the International and NHL rinks. Locker rooms are nice size and the facility is just a nice place. The staff is friendly and helpful. Hungry you chelio's bar and grill or stop by the concession stand for plenty of options. Enjoy drink at Cheli's or some great menu options. Need some skates, helmet, stick or a sharpening ? The onsite store has it all when you enter. They have a pretty wides selection gear and apparel. Looking to check out some semi-pros- the Chicago Steel play here and fun to watch. As a USHL team they have been a great team. This is great for families, friends or maybe just on your own ... to watch a great game. 2016-2017 champions. read more

I only wish I could give less than one star. This ice rink is run by a seemingly incompetent management and led by hormonal 16yr olds. They falsely advertise events and rat hockey games on their website regularly. Then you drive all the way there only to get some little 16yr old employee with an attitude telling you the times were changed and nothing they can do. When you ask for a manager, they give you a business card with a phone number to call (& that phone number is not in service). In my opinion it is the rink that should "no longer be in service". Bypass Fox Valley Ice Arena at all costs. There are plenty of other rinks with competant staff and ice that is zambonied correctly, and not soft. This rink also has a MAJOR theft problem. I do not recommend leaving any valuables in their locker room. They'd probably be safer in your car with all your windows down. read more

Nice arena and a great place for families on a budget to see quality hockey. The concession prices were reasonable.

NOTE: I can only speak on the gym and not the rest of the arena itself. The gym's name is now Get Fast LLC, a franchise under the Athletic Republic (AR) umbrella. According to the AR website, Get Fast offers "individualized sport-specific training programs designed to enhance athlete's speed, power and agility to gain more than just a step on their competition." The gym's focus of effort is the specialized training to local high school athletes, to improve their individual strength and speed. It's just a good place to get a work-out in and fortunately has avoided becoming a social club like so many other gyms have nowadays. SERVICE: Service is average, nothing notable here. The staff is fairly friendly, although they can seem absent sometimes. When you walk in, don't count on seeing someone at the door to greet you, which really isn't a big deal to me at least. All of your billing concerns are addressed in house, so you don't have to worry about any corporate phone menus either. LAY-OUT: Get Fast gutted the old gym, laying down a new floor, re-painting the walls and installing new flatscreen TVs. The old track that went around the gym has been removed, which doesn't matter considering all the cardio machines nearby. Additionally, the machines are spaced appropriately so that you won't feel crowded at all. It's pretty easy to get around in here. If you're big on mirrors in your gym, this probably isn't the place for you. There are mirrors on only one side since the other side of the gym overlooks one of the ice rinks. EQUIPMENT: Get Fast kept all of the old gym equipment from the last owners and its still in good working condition. You won't find every machine your heart desires here, but there still are plenty of machines for every major muscle group and two sets of dumbbells to get your work-out done. There also are plenty of treadmills, elliptical machines and stationary bikes if you're a cardio hound. The equipment appears to be much more well maintained than in the past as well. The water fountains are a little old, but still work just fine. If you're paranoid about your drinking water, you may want to bring your own jug or water bottle. LOCKER ROOM: Get Fast offers a small locker room that gets the job done. You can bring a lock or store your belongings in a locker without a lock at your own risk. Lockers are free. You can also just hang up your coat on the small rack right after you walk in for no charge. There are also showers, a decent size bathroom and an area with sinks and a weight scale. The bathrooms could be cleaned a little more often. From what I can tell, they're only cleaned about once a week. MUSIC: If you're an iPod-free guy like myself, then the music thats playing can definitely matter. While you're always welcome to bring in your iPod, the music here can get stale. For the past 3 months, it's usually the same mix of classic rock and alternative, which can get old after awhile. A little variety wouldn't hurt, so if you're big on music, you should bring your iPod or just get used to it. COSTS & MEMBERSHIP: Get Fast is definitely affordable. If you commit to a year-long membership, its only $34 a month and you get the 13th month free. If you join under a family member's membership, its only $25 a month. DISCLAIMER: The rates are subject to change so don't quote me on 'em. Ask the Get Fast staff about rates. Membership within the gym is currently low, presumably due to the economy. However, depending on what time you work out, you probably won't have to worry about any crowds (especially in the mornings). The other people who go to this gym are friendly and normal, ranging from teenagers to middle-aged guys. You won't find any crazy meatheads or douchebags screaming and chugging protein shakes here (at least not yet, knock on wood). SUMMARY: I would recommend the Get Fast gym. Its affordable, has the equipment and the recent renovation has dramatically improved what was a deteriorating structure. I can't speak on the 1-on-1 specialized training for athletes, but the gym itself is very reasonable and gets the job done. read more

This rink is run by new management now and is very good. My son and daughter both take lessons and really enjoy it. We did the Spring Ice Show for the first time and were very impressed. Rockne is very sweet with all of the kids and does a great job. I would definitely recommend it. read more

We had my daughters birthparty here this past weekend. This place is so disorganized I do not know how they can stay open. It was a cluster getting everyone skates and wrist bands. We had a sky box after skating and no use of elevator for 3rd floor, no bathrooms available and no one their seemed to be in charge when looking for help. Look elsewhere if doing a birthday party. read more

The Skate School has many wonderful coaches including ice dancing coaches that joined this year (Alina and Kseniya are AWESOME!!!) We have skated with a few of the veteran coaches like Anne, Ashley, Geri and Lindsay (all also AWESOME!!!) and they are friendly, dedicated and highly skilled and the lessons are challenging without being disheartening when a child doesn't catch on to a move as quickly as they might like. The coaches encourage them and I have never seen a child leave the ice looking defeated. With new coaches come new students and new ways of doing things which is to be expected but if you are new to an organization you need to respect the people who have been there for years before you no matter who you are or what your accomplishments may be. I have given only 3 stars because there is one new coach who, in my opinion...and the opinion of some others...skates around with their students as though it is their private ice time and with complete disregard of other skaters especially the younger and less experienced ones. This has resulted in younger skaters becoming very nervous on the ice and more than one occasion where physical contact has occurred. Fortunately, at this point, nothing horrible has happened but give it time. I hope management handles this problem quickly and doesn't just blow off the legitimate concerns of parents and coaches. If advanced skaters cannot use the many hours of ice time alloted specifically for them then they need to be more considerate of the beginner skaters when sharing the ice with beginners who cannot react as quickly as they might need to avoid a collision. If you want to skate around like it is your private ice rink then pay the $200 an hour for private ice time. read more

I called to see if they did ice skating rentals and were they open today and they told me yes, I came in with my 3 year old who was so excited to go ice skating and now she's crying. They said they are closed to the public today for hockey. ( Very rudely) could someone have told me that over the phone instead of lying to me? Of course. I visited this rink last week, thought I would try under the new management. and nothing has improved the staff seems uninterested in the customers the lobby is dark and it hard to see anything. the ice is in need of serious repair, I guess this management company needs some lessons in managing ice rinks. What they need is a professional ice rink manager and not kids or a manager who allows these kids to act so unprofessional. sorry for the residents of Kane county now you know why the last time I was there the place was almost empty. My kids were signed up for the in house freeze and I was not happy the previous year until this year when I met a new coach John and his Son Jonathan they were great with my kids and my kids both said they were learning a lot from them two. Turns out that the coach is a certified USA hockey coach and it really shows compared to before. What I don't get is why Dad's who are not certified to be coaches are out on the ice ?
