I'm a fan of this barn. I especially like the stadium feel of the main rink and the various options for seating. My son said the ice was "decent", though it was a little uneven in a few spots. I think there needs to be a more efficient way to communicate when a game is at the John street barn, so that you're not having to get out at the main location. We had part of a tournament at this location and it was conducive to keeping the kids engaged, with the outdoor fields and areas to fill the down time. read more

Plenty of parking to be had in multiple lots. The lot was filling up pretty well so you could tell this was a well liked event. Upon entry, they had a big living social banner making you feel welcome with your own check in table. They hook you up with all your vouchers and away you go. Free hot dogs, sodas and GA admission, sit wherever you want, not a bad seat in the house. Two tables up stairs once you are inside the rink, one side you can get your free pucks, the other side (merch table) you can pick up your free cups. Nice merch table by the way. The Steel kept us wondering most of the game, Dubuque was up well into the third when Steel tied it up P3. Came back and stole the show with a super sweet goal they slinked in the side. The Dubuque goalie did not even know it was in behind him until it already was ;) Not sure if they do this every night but I felt the arena did a great job of keeping things festive, including - a free hot dog toss (just like the tee toss). Tee toss of course, and a pizza toss. This night was apparently mascot night, they had at least a dozen team mascots out in force and they did a great job of getting out and mingling with the crowd. The mascots even had their own hockey game during one of the intermissions. One of the intermissions included a toss the puck contest, you purchased a red puck and threw it on the ice during the contest to try and land on one of the marks. Whoever was DJ-ing the tunes did a great job keeping everyone pumped up. Concession stands are available and have most anything you can think of. Beer prices were reasonable ($4 Miller Lite, $5-$6 for Heineken and such). And also happy to report that nobody was there getting wasted and being a nuisance. There was a lot of family out in force and everyone was having fun. What was even cooler to see were all the birthday parties being held, those kids were really amped. If you have not made it out yet and you like hockey, give it a go, you will have a good time. read more

Bad experience with ice quality, organization with figure skating lessons, classes, ice shows and the Director of the program. For this arena to have 3 separate sheets of ice one would think that their teaching program would be state of the arts, lots of care to utilizing its space and a whole lot of kids in their programs. Sadly that's not what we've experienced. The skating school was subpar. Coach's on their phones while they're to be teaching. Gossip and bullies from higher level skaters mistreating those at lower levels and the coaches not stopping it. Ice shows are/were very disorganized. Incomplete information given to us parents making it stressful for everyone. The ice is terribly maintained causing it to be dangerous to skate on. I think it's time to find another rink. read more

The John street location is the only arena in Illinois where the visitor seats and home seats are different. 1/3 of the seating are freezing metallic bleachers (visitor side) and 2/3 are larger nice blue plastic seats (home). This is just an example of the lack of respect the club has for their opponents! read more

The people were nice, and the ice wasn't too bad (a little bumpy in some parts). The venue was super clean - like so many people were mopping, but that also made the rink air have a very overwhelming cleaning supply smell. There were not many benches available near the ice to put your skates on. Public skate was $7 if you don't live in Bensenville, $5 if you do - which is a great price for public skate. There is child in me that still wishes that she spent her childhood skating and competing in the Olympics. In my fantasy, I can speed skate, twirl, and do all the things that my 40 year old body no longer allows. The reality is hideous and I find myself short of breath in a bad way. This place rocks. It is open year round, and it is never too crowded so there is plenty of room for you to skate and play a fool without too many eyes. I highly recommend bringing your own skates as the blades there are in desperate need of sharpening and your front calf muscles and ankles will hate you otherwise. The cost to skate and rent is relatively inexpensive. The food is actually good and reasonably priced. They do offer combined swimming and skating memberships that are a steal. I highly recommend this place during the weekends if you have time to kill and kids in tow. read more

I've spent a lot of time in hockey rinks. A LOT. The Edge is one of the better ones I've been to, both to skate on and to watch a game. They have a couple rinks, but the main one is where the Chicago Steel (wooo #21!) play their home games. The games feel like a minor league hockey game, complete with mascot, stuff to do during intermissions, and fun music in between whistles. The concessions are pretty typical, but they do have some nice hot sandwich choices to keep you toasty as this is one of the colder rinks I've been to. The beer is cheap and you can watch the game from the bar or a skybox if you'd like. Parking is usually pretty plentiful and best of all, no musty locker room smell inside the rink! read more

Pretty nice skating rink for both skaters and the audience. West rink is great for the audience but it gets hard use so the ice is only so-so. The other sheets of ice (east rink and down the street by the pool) are much better ice but the bleachers are not nearly as nice. read more

Hockey- its like soccer, football, and disney on ice combined. The edge smells like a brothel and looks like a warehouse. I've had quite a few games here and can probably even identify the indentations of my face on the plexi glass if I look hard enough. The only reason i don't give it a higher review is that some team members of ours have had theft issues at this rink in the past. It really kind of puts a downer on things. read more

Great ice arena. Two huge rinks where you can watch Robert Morris college hockey team or the Chicago Steel. They have public skating hours that are actually longer than just a couple of hours. My daughter took ice skating lesson through edge ice skating. The coaches were great. We were very happy with the program until it came time for the holiday ice show. The schedule for practices were given to us clearly, though the information for the actual show was a disaster. The instructions for the day of the show did not even tell us when we had to be at the rink by. There were too many questions left unanswered. When we got to the rink it was chaos. There were to many kids and parents in a small place. Pictures were chaos with so many people in a tight area, you could tell the photographer was doing her best to be nice, and she was, you could also tell she was getting annoyed of the crowding parents and the coaches not doing anything to help. The head of the skating program produced a good show, though the lack of details for first time parents were awful. We will not be returning to this program, and will drive further if we decide to proceed with skating. We have had recitals of another activity where the parents were gathered and given all the of information for the day of recital, there were absolutely no questions left to ask by the time the meeting was done. Three Ice Rinks, well maintained. Lighting is good. Staff at front desk knowledgable. **The problem is their figure skating program! The Director is disorganized, no follow-thru. Summer Figure Skate camp is terrible! If your child wants to learn hockey then they have a good program. If your child wants to learn figure skating go somewhere else. They will be glad to take your money but you won't have anything to show for it! read more

We were here for a youth hockey tournament. The stadium seating in the arena rink is great. The seating in the second rink is less desirable as there are no ice level bleachers. There are chairs in the mezzanine or you can watch by standing on the glass at ice level. The concession stand has a good selection including Italian beef sandwiches (yum) and they have a full bar. The locker rooms are clean and spacious. My only gripe with with their setup for teams is there's no bottle filling station for water bottles. Either fill'em before you go or fill them at the water fountain on the mezzanine level. Overall, a nice facility. We'd come back for a tournament again. read more

So my son wanted to play hockey. I first signed them up in Franklin Park. It didn't go over well there. So I said let's try one more place. I have to say the coaches here are some of the best. Coach Todd is great with the kids and with the parents. If you want to have your son or daughter play hockey this is the place to go! Also the pro shop has a few guys that will go out of their way to help you. read more
