The playground covers a lot of ground and if you have an active child, it could be easy to lose sight of them. However, the playground is fully fenced and the spaciousness allows children to freely roam without feeling claustrophobic. There are a variety of equipment that consists of roller and molded slides, seesaw, climbing ropes, saucer swing, musical elements, and zip line. Our girls have thoroughly enjoyed every aspect and we have visited during the week and on weekends.

The ramps are double wide so there is plenty of space for children of all ages to share the play space. However, there are separate sections for younger and older children so the young children won't have to feel intimidated. 2) The whole playground has a rubbery ground so it is very comfortable and safe. 3) There are slides of various sizes, rock climbing walls, flying saucer swing, zip line, assorted climbing structures such as panels and ladders, and swing sets. 4) The tennis courts are just around the corner so this is definitely a keeper because our 4-year old has begun taking tennis lessons from her daddy.

It seems like the two names, Oakbrook Terrace and Heritage Park, are used interchangeably. Nonetheless, this was a random discovery when I was browsing Google Maps for playgrounds to check out and it is a definite keeper! The park is quietly tucked within a neighborhood. So far we have visited twice in the morning and there were very little people to share the space with. Although I would like the social factor and enjoy the bustle with running and laughing children, but the quietness is particularly beneficial to my firstborn's short attention span. It allows her to stay focused on her tennis lessons with her daddy. The tennis courts are well maintained and within walking distance of the playground. It is easy for us to toggle between the two. The playground appears to be recently renovated. There is a small section for toddlers and larger section for older kids. The space is well divided so the younger children can stay in their area without feeling intimidated. The flooring for both sections is a mix with some parts having wood chips and others having rubber. The rubbery ground is a uphill and down slope climb and it was a great way for my girls to run up and down to expense their endless energy. Otherwise, there is also the typical playground equipment such as slides, climbing ropes, ladders and spirals, and monkey bars. Side note - This playground is incredibly close to Frankie's Deli which is a favorite of ours!

I had been to the Aquatics Center for a seminar in one of their meeting rooms, but never the pool…read moreitself. Recently my cousins rented the whole place out for a birthday party. I was impressed. We had the entire pool room to ourselves, with two giant pools, one shallow for the kids with a slide, and the other with lanes for more serious lap swimming. They also have a large hot tub which I enjoyed immensely. There was room for our food, gifts and seating all in view of the pools, and their locker rooms, showers and restrooms were well maintained. The doors lead out to a nice patio area in the back, where there are outdoor pools and beautiful scenery. I'm sure we were inside because it had rained that day. I don't know what my cousins paid for this private event on a weekend, but it was worth it. Fun was had by all.

Oak Brook Park District has won national rewards for servicing the community. I joined when the…read morepandemic lockdown ended. They took down the posters re: fitness room etiquette a few years ago. So, now members listen to there programs & talk on the phone all the time. What interested me about Brookfield Woods compared to the other trailheads nearby is that it is the mile marker starting point for the Salt Creek Trail System. As an outdoor fitness enthusiast who has been running for years, I would categorize the difficulty level as easy because the terrain is flat! I encountered mostly walkers, a few joggers, and many recreational bike riders along this path. While on it I felt that peaceful sense of being in nature as I heard birds chirping, the wind blowing, and the sound of the flowing salt creek which was off to my left while going out. I even got glimpses of chipmunk and squirrel running across my path; some even startling me at times when close by which also kept me in the moment during my hike. On my turnaround, I encountered a Canadian goose which I am absolutely terrified of! I am even known to alter my run routes just to avoid them out of fear of being attacked! It hissed at me as I went around it; it is like it instantly got its little goose panties in a bunch. I swear my heart rate increased as I eased by it because the last thing I wanted to experience was getting my ass kicked by a Canadian goose. That is a losing situation that I am unsure how I will bounce back from, but bye bye goose! I spent a little over forty-minutes during my hike on the path but could have easily gone longer if I were running instead. There are a variety of activities you can conduct on the Salt Creek Trail System path which extends 7.1 miles out; some of those activities I can certainly see are hiking, running, walking, biking, or even in-line skating. Other than my encounter with the Canadian goose, I had a pleasant experience on the Salt Creek Trail System as indicated in this review and would return. As a runner, I can see myself returning just to explore more of the Salt Creek Trail System. ~An adventure a day keeps the doctor away. ~ Thomas G

We entered at Brezina Woods, in LaGrange. If you are looking for a COVID-era place for a quiet…read morefamily walk, this is NOT the place. We only saw a few other people wearing masks. And it was so crowded, we left after only a mile. It was hard to maintain social distance on the paved path while avoiding the many bikers, roller bladers, and walkers. We found a few quiet side trials that each led 200-300 feet into the woods, but due to recent rains, those paths were very muddy, then flooded. We did find some moss. And some pretty trees and plants. So we hung out in the woods, then got out and went home. Pros: Free. Free parking. Clean trials. Plenty of parking. Paved trials. Not too many mosquitoes. Con: this trail goes through residential areas. We were literally passing inches from backyards of homes, yards filled with people. Fair enough. It is their home!! But it felt weird to just walk past their backyard while everyone is outside doing family stuff.

It was 15 minutes getting started with the activities. Some of the little ones was crying and irritated for waiting. The mean green Grinch was outside to entertain us with a few jokes. Once we got the green light to start. It was worth the wait. Beautiful Christmas light displays along the path. Smores and bonfires set up around the park. A Hot Chocolate Stand, Camel Rides, Selfie Stations and other pop up surprises. Free Admission. A fun and wonderful entertainment for the family. I had an amazing time walking around and enjoying the holiday festival.

This park is always full with families and people walking dogs! I've only ever seen one questionable person smoking a cigarette scrolling her phone on a park bench. And by questionable, I mean completely unaware of the beauty of Wilder Park! The new art installation is very cool to stand under or heck even lay on the ground like I did!
