Me and my wife recently stopped here so we could visit the open skating rink. The price is here per person we're pretty fair and you get a great a lot of time. 14 bucks for an hour and a half with a $4 skate rental. That's not bad at all. The open skating rink featured a lot of people here. Staff was attentive to make sure no one was lollygagging and helping out the little ones and some adults that fell down a lot. This place has a few hockey Rinks inside and this place has a lot of activities going on here as well. Everything about this place is fairly maintained as well. On certain days the parking can be a little chaotic especially when they have hockey games or practices here. Overall, I did enjoy my visit here. Definitely check this place out! We didn't have time to check out the little cafe since it appeared to be cold but it did feature vending machines read more

Nice staff! Parking lot is small and becomes full fast. This place is dated and dirty but we still had fun and would perhaps return. My rentals really smelled bad I'm wondering if they are sprayed when people return them idk? Again decent place, nice size rink in fact they have more than one rink which was cool. read more

It was a bit of a cluster zone because everyone apparently knew about the groupon that was on sale for public skating. It was very specific in terms of timing between 1:00 to 3:30 (look at the fine print). They have specific times for free skate because it also shares with hockey and other sports as well. For about 8 dollars for two people WITH skates, that's a pretty big deal (cost effective and fun). You'll just have to deal with the crowds if you want to go. Look out! Falling kids and adults alike! Rocket Ice Skating Rink - Guest side overlooking the rink - Skating Rinks Near Me - Bolingbrook, Illinois

Overpriced, overcrowded, understaffed. Ok, to be fair the front of the house experience is quite nice. The desk staff is friendly and the seating and waiting areas are comfortable and appealing. That said, public skate is a nightmare. My trip there (which we drove from the north side of chicago from) was easily the worst I've been in, and I've been in dozens of arenas. First, the price. When I saw it, I expected something special. Of all the rinks I've skated in the chicago area, this one cost the most, which was baffling to me. It literally costs less to skate on the same rink the Blackhawks practice on. You'd assume you're getting a lot, but I guess you're paying for the spectator area. Second, the skate wardens. They had 4 high school kids in safety vests doing laps while chatting with each other, but they were certainly not there to do the job you see on most rinks. I saw a couple dads try to engage and alert them to serious safety issues (like a kid laying down on the ice not getting up) and it was clear the kids were disinterested or undertrained for the task. I assume they were minimum wage kids, putting in the bare minimum: be present. A good example of the safety issues they ignored was this. A mother was skating with her small child. The child fell and didn't want to get up, crying. The mom kneeled down beside her child to thy to coax him up. After a few minutes of this not working she literally laid down on the ice beside the kid trying to convince him to get up. This was at a very crowded rink and this lady came close to causing a pile up many times. She was easily down there for 5-10 minutes. The skate wardens passed her easily a dozen times, not one seemed concerned or aware of the danger she was putting herself or others in. We also saw another child stop on the ice and take her skate off, sitting down in traffic. Many children with skate assist devices skating against the flow of traffic. It was mayhem, and I don't think I've ever been on a more chaotic rink. An easy solution would be to close up two skate warden positions and increase the pay for the two remaining positions using the saved money. For that price you could hire people invested in the position and capable of maintaining order on a rink. This would immediately solve the biggest problem with the rink. More solutions would include capping the rink population a little lower, maybe opening up another skate slot to make up for it. We arrived 10 minutes into public skate and the ice was already absolutely torn up due to overstating. The facility itself is beautiful and with better management it would really give the town something to brag about. read more

Terrible learn to skate program. Zero feedback from the teachers and no guidance for the parents to help learning experience.

Very fun Kids enjoyed I definitely recommend. This place has food and drinks. And a good view to see your kids skating. read more

Very disappointing how the open skate has declined here. Rink was out of rental skates prior to the start of open skate. Given 2 pairs of defective skates prior to receiving a usable pair. Providing broken skates to children is dangerous! The boys who are the skate guards move around the ice huddled together, chatting without any concern of maintaining a safe skating environment. Finally, on a holiday weekend there was no effort made to make it a fun skating environment. Credit should be given to the girls working the counter and checking bands at the rink door who were very helpful. Will be checking out other rinks in the future. read more

Love it because they don't enforce masks and there stick and puck is great I really recommend this place

While the employees here are nice, informative and courteous, they do not enforce mask wearing here. There are signs on the entry doors that say masks must be worn. But when we were there, about 95% of the people we saw were unmasked. read more

Took our son for his first ice skate experience today. Left sad and crying because there were no ice walkers to help him. Parents were hoarding them and staff basically said tough crap. They offered a different skate day but what's the point if you don't have enough equipment for your customers. Dont waste your time going to this place. read more

Excellent spot for youth hockey, even though our "home" rink is All Seasons this rink is easier on the spectator. Nice snack bar, games for the kids, and great viewing areas for the 2 rinks. For the players, the ice is good, locker rooms clean, and the big rink is a thrill to play on. Only downside is parking lot is very small. read more

I AM DISGUSTED. they laughed at us when we said we were there for public skate. For real man??? How was I supposed to know that it was only weekends. And when I said we were from New Orleans, it got me NO WHERE. have they no respect ????!!!!! read more

Rocket Ice Skating Rink - Rocket skate more LIKE NO SKATE - Skating Rinks Near Me - Bolingbrook, Illinois

Worst experience! They completely oversold the open skate and ran out of skate sizes for their very low quality equipment. Blades were dull on multiple pairs we tried. Could barely get on and off the rink due to crowds and once on the rink you could hardly move. The handful of "walkers" were being hoarded by people that weren't actively skating, just off the ice watching. Would not take young kids here for open skate. read more

The first few times we came here were great Their equipment was in great shape and it wasn't too crowded. Then we came today. I have no idea why it was so crowded, but it was awful. The girls handing out skates didn't seem to know where anything was or what they were doing. I witnessed several people returning skates because they were two of the same foot or the wrong size. They didn't have my size, and seemed surprised when I didn't fine too-big or too-small skates acceptable. They also didn't seem to understand that different types of skates fitted differently (there are figure skates that lace like hockey skates and fit much larger). The workers w just didn't seem to care today. The refs on the ice (while I watched my family skate) didn't intervene when people went the wrong way or skated over little kids. It took me several tries to get the desk workers' attention. And the girls handing out the skates stopped to chat even when there was a long line. It was bizarre. Hopefully just an "off" day. We'll give them another chance. I just wish there was a way to predict if it would be this bad. Or I wish they'd limit the number of admissions to avoid some of the problems. Or train their staff. read more

Our kids learned how to skate here. Family & kid friendly. Plenty of seats for parents to sit and watch. Front desk staff, coaches-teachers, and Ed the owner are friendly and helpful. Fun public skating, good music too. read more

I stopped by here last Sunday to watch my friends' little 6 year old play in the Championship game of a Thanksgiving weekend tournament. I was really impressed with this place! Two regulation size rinks were being used at the time...one for this tournament, and the other for public skate. The lobby has a nice, cozy feel of a ski lodge and has ample seating for those who want to come in from the cold of the rinks and enjoy a cup of coffee or hot chocolate. Plenty of help behind the main desk made waiting in any lines for information or skate rental short and uneventful. The concession stand didn't have a lot to offer, but had the staples and pretty much what you'd expect to find at an ice rink, to be fair. Trying to find a washroom may be difficult, though...especially for the men. For some reason, the women's is at the end of the lobby, but the men's is in the north rink, behind one of the goals. Strange. I'll definitely be back for free skate or maybe even rat hockey one of these days. Located not too far from I-55 and Rt 53, it's conveniently located from basically all directions. Seeya there! read more

Two stars. The facility is OK, but no soap in the bathrooms so kids all over with pee and poop hands, and no enforcement of mask requirements. Any busses that doesn't obviously measures to prioritize health of the patrons makes me wonder what else they're cutting corners on. read more

Nice ice arena, as ice arenas go. Went with about 6 friends and all had fun. There were two rinks I believe; a hockey game was being played on one of them. Dark/cosmic skating. It was tough to find, as we ended up circling around residential Bollingbrook even with all our GPSs. Not too crowded, which is a plus over the Rolling Meadows one where you're constantly avoiding tiny figure skaters practicing right in your way and clusters of duck-facing 15 year olds with their cameras. We will be back this fall/winter. Recommended. read more

Went here after seeing it on Groupon. Two tickets plus skate rental for $9 seemed like a great deal, and I wasn't disappointed. Yes, the open skate was crowded, but I didn't really expect it to be empty. The "ice refs" were friendly, and even helped kids off the ice when it was Zamboni time. Parking here is pretty terrible-they have a small lot to support the two rinks which were in use when we went. Also 75% of the video games were out of order. Not a huge deal unless you are my son or husband, but thought it was worth mentioning. Otherwise I'd definitely try open skate out here again. read more

I enrolled my now 6-year-old in the snowplow Sam (learn to skate) program at age 3. He went through all the classes and is now in Hockey 4, so I have some point of comparison as to what the instructional classes should be. We were ready to sign him up for a team and invest some real money into this sport. But not at Rocket Ice. Why? My younger 3-year-old is currently taking snowplow Sam...there are at least 20 kids in the class ranging from snowplow 1 to 4. Six instructors, many of them young teens who may know how to ice skate, but aren't adept enough to teach a bunch of young children who have never ice skated before. The class has no structure. They skate across the ice (maybe) a handful of times in a half hour lesson. Much of the time I catch the class standing on the ice doing nothing. These beginning classes are not cheap, and they are the gateway to getting people to make a much more expensive investment. I spoke to the figure skating instructor about my concerns. Not much has changed after two weeks. Rocket ice arena, you've lost two kids who I would have continued to spend thousands of dollars putting them through your hockey program. We are going to Arctic Ice in Orland. read more

Need way more skates. Girls at front desk gave us suggestions that didn't make sense while we wait for some skates to open up then proceeded to say that waiting was technically useless as they wouldn't get any skates back. read more

Nice ice arena. Two rinks - plenty of viewing areas. Decent snack bar - nice "lodge" room with fireplace, very cozy. Open skate isn't too crowded. They offer hockey lessons - figure skating lessons - and off ice training. Staff is friendly and helpful. Nice! read more

We had a groupon and decided to use it on the kids day off school. I'm not sure what open skate is like on a regular day but it was packed. It's a nice place and we had a good time. My only complaint is that they were pretty much out of skates. My daughter and i had to settle for skates 2 sizes too big and my husbands were 1 size too big. It would have been nice to know they were out of our size before we redeemed our groupon. Had I known We would have come back another day. read more

Always a great experience at Rocket Ice. Thier Youth programs are the Best.

Kudos to the staff at Rocket Ice. I was there for open skate on Christmas Eve to take my nephews (5 & 10) who had never skated before. It was excellent introduction for them. From Rachel at the front desk to Cody who worked with the first timers on the ice they were very friendly and helpful. We had a great day and we can't wait to get back on the ice! read more

So I went there today to take the kids to skate with Woody from Toy story and was underwhelmed by the whole experience. From the pics on the website and I think because of the angle that the pic was shot at, it made the rink look soooo big but it's not bigger than a regular skate rink. Yes they have a decent reception are but concession is so so. I was expecting music playing but didn't hear any like they say on their website and to make it worse, I was only there for 10 mins on the ice when a child had a accident, slipped on the ice, got a concussion then started vomiting on ice! That shut down the public rink for the rest of the day! I was def underwhelmed. It was also V.busy! read more

I usually take my kids to inwood in jolet, but we recently came to this one to change it up. Wrong decision. The rocket ice arena is insanely overcrowded! When I say crowded I mean packed like sardines. It is not fun when there's that many people on the ice. Not to mention very dangerous. You would think that there would be some type of limit to how many people can be on the ice at once. But they keep letting them in. We will continue to go to Inwood from now on. Much less crowded. (And there was not a whole lot of parking at rocket.) read more

This is a great place to take the family for an afternoon of ice skating or to catch a game of youth hockey!

My family has attended many open skates, my husband has brought our son for stick & puck in his earlier hockey days, and now we come to Rocket for occasional hockey games, private coaching during stick & puck. I love that they make so much ice time available for stick & puck! read more

We signed our son (13yrs old) up for beginner hockey and our daughter (5yrs old) for the tots first time - learn to skate class. Our son has skated before so he had fun. Our daughter, however, has never even seen a skate rink. She doesn't have the greatest balancing skills so we thought this would help. We signed them up at the ice arena and even bought them skates so we didn't have to rent. I asked the girls there if my daughter needed to bring anything and she said no just wear a hoodie cause it's cold. When we showed up for the first lesson I was shocked to see that the instructors were children! One adult and a handful of kids "teaching" a large class. Then they asked if I had gloves for my daughter. I was not told to bring anything so no. Luckily another mom lent a pair to me. I also noticed that most kids had helmets on. I was worried but let my daughter go on the ice anyway because she was excited. She could barely stand up and fell non stop - which I anticipated. What got me mad was that NO ONE was helping her and she kept falling. It took her falling backwards and hitting her head on the ice before anyone even noticed, but even then, I had to go on the ice myself to pick her up. Finally after the 30 minutes were up, the kids were given a cookie (while still on the ice?!) then the parents were all handed the informational pamphlet explaining what they should bring with to class. SERIOUSLY??? This should have been given to us BEFORE class when we signed up. I'm sorry, but for a class with over a dozen first timers, there should be A LOT MORE SUPERVISION by adults. My daughter is a trooper and wants to go back so I will let her finish the 2 months we paid for (in a helmet and pads next time) but will strongly consider going somewhere else after this. The only good thing is that the kids get a VIP pass that lets them skate whenever they want. Not a good place for first timers lessons. read more

So my first time skating at Rocket Ice. Actually I had my daughter's birthday party there. What I loved was the all inclusive party package. They send you nice invitations including envelopes, party decorations and staff to help with the party guests. In addition to the party room for one hour food and cupcakes are provided. Staff also helps in the beginning of ice time to help those first timers. Skate time was a reasonable hour and fifteen minutes or so. If your like me and wanted to not have to worry about what to get or prepare for a large party of young girls, the money is worth it. Party favors and a group photo are also included in this package. While I wad there I also noticed that they have youth and adult figure skating as well as hockey teams/lessons which looked cool if your into that sort of sport. I will definitely bring my family here again during the winter season! read more
