Took Cardio Tennis classes here Spring 2025. I usually take classes at Humboldt Park but wanted to try a different time slot. I like that the parking is close to the courts. I love seeing all the pups walking while we are doing tennis early in the morning. This park only has 2 courts so an intimate court. The court has been recently remodeled to include pickleball lines. All in all, no complaints. May check out the pool this summer. read more

I rode pass this park so many times. One day I just needed to get out for some fresh air and decide to take a scroll along the park. Nice chill quiet neighborhood park. Pretty spacious for the kiddies to run and enjoy the nice weather. A few facilities to enjoy.. tennis courts, baseball field, pool and a track to walk or run. I felt good that I was able to just get out and enjoy the nice relax atmosphere. Super nice park read more

I chose Chicago Park District - Smith Park as a new alternate run route in the area along with the paved paths at Humboldt Park. I figured that running at Smith Park would be more intimate than running the paved paths at Humboldt Park, which it was. Smith Park is hidden, but if you would like a glimpse of it as well as an easier access point, I recommend driving on W. Grand Avenue because it will spare you the annoyance of the one-way roads inner neighborhood. Smith Park offers access to a number of activities such as tennis, softball, a playground, swimming, soccer, divvy bike, and other activities inside of its indoor recreational facility. Some might even visit its park for a picnic, walk or even a run around the perimeter like myself. During my run, I clocked 1/2 of a mile during my first loop, so if you do the math two loops will put you at 1 mile. Being that I had not ran in over a month due to busy schedule and inconsistent temperatures my pace was well off and breathing was horrendous due to the chilling wind. With spring temperatures near and my current semester about over I know that my time for improvement is around the corner, but enough with that. There are an ample amount of places to park around its perimeter to which some are particularly for the park itself. And not to forget, there is neighborhood parking as well, but I highly doubt you will need to use it unless there are activities present at its pool and recreational facility. Thomas G read more

Great li'l park in the Chicago Parks District stable! Smith Park (between Ukranian Village and Humboldt Park neighborhoods) serves local residents with: - Swimming Pool - Tennis Courts - Baseball fields - CPD Arts programs, primarily Ceramics And plenty of grassy room for soccer, picnics, playing, and Movies in the Park. Was here recently for a screening of Ghostbusters, and the Smith Park Board welcomed everyone, and you can tell they really take care in how the Park serves the neighborhood and those who visit. read more

What a great neighborhood park! First came to this park for my godson's baseball game early this summer. I then came back a few months later for my little one to burn off some of that XTRA energy she has. The playground area is well maintained and has many great activities. There is a splash pad, many swings, slides galore! During the week, the park is pretty packed with little ones (average age of 4) and their nannies. There is plenty of parking nearby and I never worry about leaving my car in this neighborhood. read more

Urban Oasis. What a blessing and gift. Thank you Chicago Park District! We even take our out of town guests here for a walk because it's such a vital, vibrant and special place. Playground, pool, tons of grass and field, tennis courts, chess. Community treasure. read more

For me, Smith Park was just there some ten or so years ago; steady, utilitarian, Chicago Park. On the surface. But ride by after ride by (bike, along with my son, most often to and from his school) i keep looking at the vast, up-kept fields of green, the fairly big and (again) well maintained playground, its location in an otherwise non-descript locale off Grand and somewhere b/t Chicago Ave, and I think to myself. Yea. This is what keeps my sanity. Chicago is unbearable on so many levels that I wont' even begin my rant. But I will give credit to the Chicago Park District for making so many of these parks available to the public....for FREE!!! Almost inconceivable and it's only a matter of time until charges for entry rear their ugly head. Until then, go out and enjoy, take a respite and reprieve from the thorny briar patch of living in Chicago and breath deeeeep. read more

DO NOT run your dog off the leash here (especially during the day). This is the only park in the city I have been ticketed at. There are plenty of useful facilities here. Pool, Softball fields, playground equipment, tennis courts ... just no dog runs. read more

This park is really a hidden gem in Chicago. I live in Streeterville and it is conveniently located straight down grand avenue. What brought me to the park was the tennis courts. I had seen them previously when I would get off the bus at grand and Rockwell to go eat sushi at Kai Zan so took note of the location. I typically play tennis at the free courts at lakeshore park but on a beautiful day knew that there would be quite a wait. That plus I'd be playing tennis with my friend who lives in wicker park made me want to play here. We arrived on our road bikes around 11:12 and both courts were occupied. However, with such a beautiful day going on waiting wasn't going to deter me. There was one group ahead of us and we got on the court after waiting about 40 minutes. The courts themselves I would say are in excellent shape. Much better than the ones I use at lakeshore park. There are no creases or cracks in the asphalt. The only negative is that depending on the sun, one side of the court can have quite a glare. But that is why you rotate sides. I will definitely be coming back here to play! read more

Tennis courts. Swimming pool. Ball fields. Playground for the tines. Sprinkler thing. Indoor basketball and small gym with machines and stuff. Tank. Grass. A gamut of humanity, languages, animals, smells, sports, and sounds are present at Smith Park. The surface of the tennis courts is slightly broken up, the nets sag, and there are no lights for night games. But overall this is a good park. bardzo dobry! read more

Adult lap swim review. You'll need a pass, purchase online or at any park admin office. Adult swim hours are listed on the CPD website. This is a 25 yard, UNheated outdoor pool, but when it's 90 degrees in Chicago, it feels amazing. No flags or lane dividers, so I'd recommend showing up right when lap swim starts to be guaranteed room. They have kickboards and paddles. Changing room has open showers that weren't working the last 2 times I went, 2 toilet stalls, but no lockers or mirrors. Very bare bones, but super friendly staff, and nothing beats outdoor swimming in the summer. read more

My soccer team practices once weekly here, and I have probably played some of the most fun "pick-up' social soccer games here. They have lights at night and plenty of nearby parking. Since I live a couple of blocks away, this place has become my new "lake" to run at, play at, and meet fellow athletes at. read more

I grew up near this park and I must say, 18 years later they have made great improvements. It is also always a clean area.

One of the cleanest parks around this area. Their summer and fall programs are the best!

I hadnt been to this park for over 20 years, but visited there this past year and was really impressed. Its really a community park and celebration of the diversity of Chicago. My Grandfather was Joseph Higgins Smith, Chicago Alderman of the 32nd Ward. He deeply valued diversity and community. He supported womens sufferage and minority rights and he advocated for city parks. He was successful in stopping a garbage incinerator plant from being built on the sight that later became "Smith Park." Like many families today, he faced many challenges as a politcian and single father of four after his wife died. He never lost sight of his values of equality and the Democratic process. The park today is a celebration of family and community.Joseph Higgins Smith would be proud to be a part of this community park. read more

After being denied entrance to the pool at Holstein Park on Friday, our group took the bus over to Smith Park. At the gate we had the rules explained to us, and then entered to splash around and have a good time. Ryan, the head lifeguard, is a true treasure. After the way we were treated at Holstein Park, I was worried that we would be turned away and that ten young children and six teenage helpers would be disappointed again. But the staff at Smith Park was courteous and helpful. Thanks to them our group had a wonderful swim. read more
