We first had Acre Pizza at the Barlow in Sebastopol and thought it was great. Although we don't really eat pizza all that often, we did recently decide to give the Petaluma location a try. The pizza is quite expensive - ended up being nearly $40 with tax - and when we opened it, we were a bit disappointed with how scant the toppings were, especially for the price. I still feel that way, but I will say, the quality of the ingredients seemed to be pretty good and the one upside of the lighter toppings was that a slice wasn't as greasy, heavy, or salty as perhaps it would've been. The pizzas only come in one size and they're pretty large in diameter - I didn't measure it, but probably 16" in diameter. It's sort of New York in style - it's quite thin and had a crispy undercarriage, so no fold or flop. Overall it was good, but I'm not sure it's the best value pizza in town. read more

I love Acre pizza. I was introduced to it a few years ago when delivered for a company party. My friend suggested we go there for game day lunch. What fun we had. The pizza is offered by the slice when sitting inside. One slice pizza order is 2 slices of pizza. For $5-8, you get 2 slices of pizza and you get to enjoy the ambiance of the restaurant and giant TVs. I was amazed. The pizza by the slice comes in deep-dish Sicilian style or thin-crust pizza. I heard someone talking about a gluten-free option as well but I can't confirm . The restaurant has an open feel with plenty of space for families with kids. Some restaurants welcome families however kids are right on top of adults trying to enjoy their meals. Perveyers offer a pool table, and fooze-ball table for customers to enjoy. Game day specials include wine and beer with a slice of pizza for $5. What a deal and what fun. read more

If I was somehow stuck inside any dining establishment for a few days (don't ask why or how), this would be among my top choices (don't ask why I would have a choice of which place). Why? 1. The food: The fungi pizza is amazing--a toothsome and chewy crust along with a healthy top layer of mushrooms and a smattering of lemon peel on top. (Last year I had the same pizza at the Sebastopol location and it didn't have the lemon peel, but I felt that this small add really elevated the taste by a wide margin.) You can also get it made vegan if you wish. 2. The interior: Abundant natural light, high vaulted/wood beam ceiling, airy space, minimal decor...all of this combined creates the perfect relaxed atmosphere. It helps to go during off times so you and your dining companion(s) have the place pretty much to yourself as we did on this weekend afternoon. 3. Recreational extras: Arcade games and pool. The pizza was so good that another one was ordered to go, but for some reason this one did not have the lemon peel. In plenty of my reviews, I often cite "high prices" as a negative mark towards restaurants. In the modern era, it can be hard to find a eating destination that ISNT out of one's preferred price range. Out of anywhere I've eaten, however, I think Acre takes the cake in terms of overpriced options. Don't get me wrong; I find their Pizza to be rather good, and have no qualms with (most) of the pricing in their entree options. We tried 5 different types of pizza-- the Gabagool was my personal favorite, (though most of my party disagreed harshly) Everyone else at the table loved the Couch Potato and the Pineapple a lot! However, my main gripe with this establishment are the rather ludicrous prices for their non-pizza offerings. $4.50 for a bottled, no-refills soft drink. $14 dollars for a Caesar Salad with no chicken (+$5 if you want the chicken, which I opted against). $2 for a cup of ranch!!! These prices are absolutely ridiculous and a clear example of the 2020's and their rampant over-inflation of prices for the consumer in the food service sector. That being said, if you CAN afford to take out a second mortgage for your ranch, this place offers rather good pizza. Nice crispy crust, huge New York style slices, and some wonderfully made unique topping combinations. I'd say it certainly earns its award for best pizza in the area, but part of me worries that the award may have gone to their head when pricing their sides and other offerings. As for the rest of the experience: The restaurant has a nice and inviting atmosphere that's very laid-back, if perhaps a bit noisy. They have a selection of pinball machines on offer, which makes waiting for your pizza a much less grueling affair. The only downside is the change machine was broken, so I had to trudge over to the cashier and wait in line for some quarters. The staff were friendly and helpful, too! One of our pizzas came out wrong, and despite none of us having touched it yet, the server graciously offered to let us keep the mistaken pizza for free and give us our original pizza at no additional charge. Despite how busy the place was, everyone was very attentive and in high spirits, which is always nice to see in the customer service space. All in all, I think most other pizza places would've gotten a 3, or maybe even a 2 for the rather wild prices on display. But the good service and good pizza keeps this review above water. Hopefully they'll find a way to cut costs before a cup of ranch costs the same as my credit card bill. read more

I believe the Roman style they're currently serving is new, and I like it better than the thin-crust I had previously. So, the Roman style is not as thick as Detroit but not thin & crispy Artisan style or thin & floppy as NY is supposed to be. The toppings are high quality and the amount of tomato sauce and cheese was good--not too skimpy, not thick & gloppy. I enjoy it right there on the premises since I don't like pizza taken home in a box; it gets steamy that way. The arugula salad is great, and huge; lightly dressed and goes so well with pizza. We arrived at 3:30 on a Wednesday and were immediately greeted by a friendly staff member. The interior has some booths, four top tables and several long family style tables. I felt like I was in a barn - in a good way because of the high ceiling with cool beams. The place was super clean. Nice music was playing...but not too loud. There is a pool table too. I was excited to try the vegan pizza . The vegan type of pizza does not come by the slice so I ordered an entire pepperoni pie. I loved it!!! Happy to have leftovers. Given the poor quality of the cheese pizza I got from Acre Sebastopol, and reading other reviews which lead me to believe that my experience was not an outlier, this was no exception. "Classic Cheese" pizza had almost no cheese and was over-cooked to the point of leaving that burnt toast after-taste. Overall the two 16" pizzas took roughly 25 mins from online order to text notification that it was done. They cost roughly $47 before taxes or tip. The pick up email specified using their side door which is close to the parking along side the building and the pizzas were kept in the warmer box prior to pick up.The dough itself has a chewy texture and is thin up to the crust, which we found ourselves dipping in ranch at home. The cheese was well concentrated and discs of mozzarella added to the flavors. The sausage and pepperoni balanced nicely with the cheeses and proportions of it on the pizza itself were well balanced rather than thrown about. The pizza itself was AMAZING. We got the gluten free Detroit Ranch. I had to triple ask them if it was gluten free the crust was SO good! The whole pie was seriously one of the best pizzas I've ever had in my life! I asked them if they had a dedicated oven because I have celiac. As someone who dabbles in the dark art of fermenting his dough for several days I immediately tasted a familiar flavor profile. I rarely write reviews for restaurants; however, after certain events, I thought I had better write a review. For the most part the pizza is good. There is a decent selection of beers on tap Having said that, the prices are steep. The reason i mention the steep prices is because the manager at the Acre Pizza in Cotati is rude. AND we all believe that if we are paying those steep prices for the food and beverages THEN we should be treated with respect. Every Thursday at 6:30, we play pub trivia. Acre Pizza HIRED North Bay Trivia to host the weekly event. Depending on the weather, we either play inside (yes, it gets loud) or outside when it is more pleasant...not downpouring. And the outdoor area has a mostly covered section with ample seating. Last Thursday, February 29, the rain was back in full force. So, I went inside to get an indoor seat...only to be told that most of the indoor seating would be unavailable for the trivia patrons. (I should add that we spend ALOT of money when we are there. We do not simply show up, maybe have one drink, and that is it. A typical team might spend $150.) The manager started putting chairs on tables to deter anyone from having an indoor seat. Her solution was to allow us to sit at one of four tables grouped together. I should also add that we usually pack most of the restaurant. And because of the complaints "they have received", we would not be able to use the speaker to hear the host read the questions AND there would be no music round....since that is also "too loud". Begrudgingly, I moved outside. However, half of the tables were not entirely under the covered section. Thus, those tables were getting rained on. I asked if they could move those tables and benches to be completely under the covered section AND to dry them off. The manager said that not only would they NOT move the tables. BUT they would only dry them off IF it stopped raining. I said that she really wasn't working with us...and she promptly interrupted me to justify her actions. Apparently, the owner of Acre Pizza authorized this course of action. Also, it gets too loud when held indoors so they cannot hear the phone ring or they cannot hear the person on the other end of the phone. When she was done talking, i tried to reason with her once again..at which point, she crossed her arms and put her back to me to basically tell me that she really doesn't care what i had to say. i should add that a male employee actually came out afterwards to do what i had asked...he moved the tables and wiped all of the water off. So, not really sure what happened....or why I had to be insulted? After speaking with other patrons, i have learned of other bad experiences with this "manager". She pours the wrong beer and will not acknowledge that she made a mistake (a PBR was given in lieu of the ordered IPA). My hope in posting this message is that the owner of Acre Pizza reads this. There are many patrons who will not be attending the trivia tonight in a form of protest. I know that we give them a lot of business. We would like to continue playing there...but we honestly do not feel as if we are welcome. And if that is the case, we can gladly spend our money elsewhere. read more

Got 2 pizza's a salad and water ( which is room temp) and it was $98.00. Asked for a little ranch dressing and was told that it was an extra $2.00. WTHeck. The amount of sauce didn't help (far too much) and the clipped basil looked unnatural, and just terrible. The pepperoni was only slightly better. The Cesar dressing was awful. Hold my beard.... Probably the best gluten free pizza ever tasted. The place is new not many patrons yet which is perfect for me getting full attention less distractions andore focus on the foods. Staff are super nice and courteous, welcoming and also seem to love their food. Order the chopped salad without meats which was delicious and fresh. They currently don't sell by the slice but will soon although ordering a pan isn't terrible if you can resist the urge to eat everything. I ate two slices or squares with half my salad which was plenty to feed two people around $36. The pizza melody was surprisingly pleasant but the crust won me. I've tried many "gluten free" dishes and pizza is usually a thin crust glorified cracker but this wasn't a saltine. The spice from the jalapeno, sweet combo of pineapple with delightful hints on spicy honey swooned me. The crust was thick and the ends are crispy salty goodness. I have been craving Detroit style pizza for sometime now & today I found Acre pizza surprisingly. I ordered the pepperoni pizza Detroit style ofc & added mushrooms as well. Their website was super easy to order & it texted me when my pizza was ready to be picked up cause I put it for a take out order. The location is in a plaza so there is plenty of parking & super convenient. When I got in & asked for my order they handed me my pizza & it took like less than 30 seconds to get back into my car. I liked the convenience & also for a Sunday they didn't look that busy! Maybe since the pandemic craziness is coming back again....whomp whomp! The pizza itself looked delicious & very gourmet looking indeed. It comes in 4 slices & it could def be a 1 person size. My favorite thing about this pizza was the crunchy crust on the sides, it was just perfect. The ingredients used were definitely top notch pepperoni & big portions of mushrooms. If you are a mushroom lover add those mushrooms for the extra 2$ baby well worth it! I am not a tomato sauce lover but their sauce was very light & not over powering so that was a plus for sure. Im glad I now have a Detroit style pizza close to me but Its definitely on the pricier side.
