Bill's propane was where we got our tanks refilled. That was until Bill retired. I called up the new company that took over, but the prices we increased and it seemed like a lot of hoops to jump through. So I was on the hunt for a new location for tank refills. Exchanges always short you and are $$$. Off to Yelp find a new company. I called up Acorn and though it's a little bit of a drive for me, the price and their availability couldn't be beat. FORGET ACORN! This place is a joke.. Call Pacific Coast Propane - fast service (as in next day!), WAY WAY WAY competitive prices compared to ferrel, acorn, amerigas, AZ propane, about 20% cheaper!! no bullshit upsells either,. My experience/review of Acorn: I am totally beside myself. I called 2/25/10 spoke to a man that offered me a "new customer" rate, said I would need a "safety check". Since it was only a couple of days later than the company I already had scheduled, I went ahead with it to get the intro rate. He said someone would be calling me to schedule but that they would be able to deliver and do the "safety check" on 3/4. I hadn't heard back so I called back to find out what time on 3/4. The lady I spoke to said that they wouldn't be able to get out until 3/12 and said she doesn't know why they would say that. I asked who scheduled it and she said a "felicia wilbur" although,the person who set up my account was a man, not a woman. Obviously I canceled but wow, what a piece of shit acorn is. read more

ACORN has great customer service! We recently had a propane tank and gas line installed in our house when we converted our kitchen stove from elctric to gas. ACORN was prompt in giving estimates and advice. After the initial installation two issues came up, which were partially my fault. ACORN sent technicians both times, free of charge, and the technician was very friendly and helpful. They were prompt & quickly fixed the problem both times. The prices seem very reasonable, and again, the customer service is outstanding. I would recommend ACORN to anyone looking for a propane company. read more

We didn't even get past the initial visit and things went haywire. The co-owner of the business is not even responsible enough to call to notify an appointment that he's going to be 40 minutes late...after he's already 15 minutes late as it is. Add to that a whole rescheduling debacle the day before and some tasty attitude tossed in and there you have it. I wish I could give this business negative stars. It's apparent to us that they don't really want to be in business, but if people are desperate enough they might eventually get it done. We were with another company for the past year and have called twice to try and get my propane tank filled. Both times the old propane company we were with quoted me a price almost a third more than what i had payed in the past. The sense of feeling like i was being ripped off, had me search for a new propane company and i found Acorn Propane on yellow pages online. I spoke with Mike which I believe is one of the owners. He gave me a quote over the phone which was very reasonable. It took less than five minutes to get an estimated price and my personal information. They delivered the propane and had my tank filled the following day. The customer service was excellent from phone to driver. They certainly won me over and now regular customer! They are also a locally owned and operated which is a plus, we love to support locally owned businesses!!! read more

Moving from metro to rural has its advantages, but it also creates some new, interesting experiences. One of them, was finding a propane company. If you've never bought propane, let alone decide on a tank for your home, where do you start? Hitting Google, I soon learned there are quite a few propane companies. I also learned each one seems to have their own prices (many, ridiculous) - especially when purchasing a tank. About five calls/emails into the process, I called Acorn and Mike answered the phone. He was very knowledgeable and patient; answering all my questions and making me feel like they'd take care of the product they were experts in, and not screw me over. I purchased a tank and they delivered and conducted a safety survey. Seven years later, there isn't anyone I'd rather do business with than Acorn. In fact, even when I forget to check the tank and realize there's only about 20% left on Friday, they happily show up on Monday to keep things going. We were with another "family owned" propane company for a long time (too long). We felt like we were going through propane awfully fast and paying too much for it! They were unorganized, inefficient and unprofessional. When we had finally had it with the other company, we shopped around and decided to try Acorn. WoW!! What a difference. Professionalism - how refreshing! Their efficiency in handling delivery to the various parts of the vast valley bring the savings to me, and lo and behold - our propane seems to be lasting so much longer now. Hmm. Big rip off artists. I tried to get them to deliver and they delayed, so I went with someone else. My tank was full and their drive called and said he had a delivery and could not find my house. I told them it was already full from another company. A week later I received an invoice for hundreds of dollars indicating they just filled my tank (did I mention it was already full?). I told them the above story, they just kept invoicing me. Incompetent and likely fraudulent! P.S. Very disappointed in the lack of communication with in this company. They can only give a 10 day window, so you never know when your delivery will show up. I request a call ahead and that never happens either. Asked to be called by a manager and no one calls back. I reached out to another company. Called to get someone to come out for an estimate on a in ground 500gal tank. The person answering the phone asked 15 minutes of questions. Most of which seemed unrelated to my reason for calling. When repeatedly asked for someone to just come out for an estimate She insisted upon asking more and more questions. When asked to speak to her supervisor I was told none was available but she would have one call me when she located one. 20 min later I received a callback from someone who knew more than the first who undoubtedly was reading off a script. After a few simple questions she determined, based on their proprietary algorithm that we didn't use enough propane to warrant the tank and refused to come out for an estimate. The questions about the intended usage (heating pool, spa, grill) were absolute. Never asked about size of pool, spa, grill or usage frequency. so her guess at consumption was only a guess and that guess was a NO. we know what our usage is because we currently have 2 100lb - 48 total gal tanks that last about 2 weeks of spa usage only. Adding the pool and grill and I can estimate in my head that 500gal is not overkill. I can't grade the other services because we never got to it. read more

I am an existing customer and cannot speak to a person and the automated delivery is on but cannot get a notice to if/when it will be delivered.I used AmeriGas for 20 years at my prior residence in another state but regardless of the demands or whys they have lost my business and frankly, i hope this review helps you decide to steer clear. Interestingly they will answer the calls for the new customer line but from there if you are existing you will get nowhere. We started using Acorn in 2014 when we purchased our home. They were always prompt and provided good service. When they sold to Ameragas, all when to hell in a hen basket. We called them 2 weeks ago to refill our tank. They couldn't get out for over a week. The week went by and we had 2 notifications that the truck would be out in a 2 day window. NO SHOW ever. Last Saturday, I was working in the yard when an Acorn truck drove by our community. He was obviously lost and drove by 2 times. The 3rd time I tried to wave my arms to get him to stop and come in to fill our tank. No luck. I assume he finally got frustrated and left. This morning we called again and the customer service people indicated that the Acorn truck was out on the 20th which was 5 days ago and because we had not cleaned out the hole where the filler attachments are, he left and didn't fill us up as promised. That was a big fat lie as we are retired and seldom there is a moment when one of us in not home. We never saw a truck and no one came to the door. Additionally, I had cleaned out the hole. My assumption is that the guy who was out on Sat 2 days ago was the guy who reported back that the hole had not been cleaned up. Lies and deceit. Poor Service. Don't use these guys. I called Pacific Coast Propane and and they are coming out tomorrow. Faster service cheaper price. read more

I switched to Acorn last summer after another propane company quoted me an unreasonably high price -- higher than what I had paid per gallon the previous winter. The price per gallon I received from Acorn amounted to hundreds of dollars less for the 300+ gallons I purchased. A few months later, I contacted Acorn about moving the propane tank to accommodate a storage building I wanted to put up in the area the propane tank is buried. Russ came out to my property and spent over an hour surveying possible relocation options. Because I am in a flood plain, he later had to do some research and talk to the county about what would be required for the relocation. It turns out the county would require anchoring the tank underground in a way that would have made the job very expensive. Ultimately, Russ recommended some workarounds that would leave the tank in place. He invested a lot of time and thought into my situation and ended up suggesting I do something that wouldn't generate any revenue for Acorn and saved me a lot of money. I was incredibly impressed with the level of helpfulness, consideration, effort, honesty and customer focus I received. Acorn demonstrated that they had my best interests at heart, ahead of making money off of me in the short term. Unbelievably refreshing! read more

When I needed immediate solutions to fix and fill my tank, Jeff was the go to person who I could trust and rely on. My tank went empty on a Saturday, the other (history) company went out and red tagged the tank and told me I would have to wait until Monday. On Monday their guy shows up and says I have two leaking supply lines and said I would need to schedule a repair. Mean while I asked the other company sales dept. to call me for a larger newer tank...no one called and by Tuesday I was still without propane. So...I called Acorn and spoke with Jeff. Their technicion found the leaking valve, repaired it and filled my tank. It's guys like this who get the job done with 100% satisfaction! read more

This company is very responsive, pleasant to deal with and knows their business. We had to remove 2 very large propane tanks from the side of our house. We had to do this in somewhat of a "rush mode" related to a sale. They responded the same day to access what needed to be done. They returned shortly after that and the tanks were gone. I saw the message that Wade posted on this review and wasn't surprised. Someone had called my house to "discuss" and I felt that the opportunities to discuss had long since passed. So make your own judgements about any company you hire to do business with and always do your homework when it comes to services that get reviews. Yes it is not uncommon for disgruntled people to write a bad review but also it is because you feel frustrated and have no other way to express yourself. CASE in point. I called Acorn and explained that my gauge read 70% and that I was not sure if it was stuck at 70% or that I was actually not using much propane. After all, propane is not my business. I just wanted to make sure that I would not run out of gas while cooking dinner. So when I expressed this to the "young lady" who answers their phones, YOU CAN BELIEVE that IF she or anyone else had said to me....THAT WILL BE $175.000 for us to come out just to check to see, I would NEVER have agreed to that. Nor would any ONE of you agree to it as it is absurd. Not only is it absurd but the very idea that they are going to have a $175.000 service charge each and every time they deliver propane gas to me, I would have never made those kind of business decisions. Any further more, when you have a person answer your phone whether it is a "hired" person or a relative or whomever....they are the voice of your company and will ultimately make and break relationships. So when I confronted "her" and told her that I would never have agreed to them coming out to "top off" my tank she accused me of being a liar and insisted that she did tell me this emphatically. OK....so you wanted to back peddle and pretend you did? I get that but don't take common sense out of the picture as I have stated above and pretend that we all ALL idiots and would agree to a $175.000 trip charge. Secondly, owners of Acorn Propane.....you should tell your phone people that everyone makes mistakes and they should probably acknowledge some sort of miscommunication ocurred and try to resolve vs. "I will just cover my butt and call her a liar and say that I did tell her about the $175.00". Bottom line is this. If every propany service company in AZ charges $175.00 trip charge, shame on you. I would go to Circle K before I would agree to that. And for anyone else who wants proof of discrepancy....I have a very small 60 gallon tank here that Acorn keeps trying to say is 120 gallons. The driver even wrote on my receipt that it was only 60 gallons. I've had two propane tanks in my yard since we moved in many years ago, but never used it up until now. I had no idea what was involved in getting those tanks working, but figured a propane company would figure it out. I searched for nearby propane companies, and initially got Arizona Propane (I'm reviewing them 1 star next - their service was atrocious! They scheduled me for a Monday, so I stayed home all day just for them but they never came. I later discovered a "sorry we missed you" note on my door - which is incredible, because I was here! Then, trying to reschedule, they never called me back! Boo!) Acorn was another name I saw frequently online in this search, so I tried them next. Thank heavens I did - the technician that serviced me (Tyler) was so incredibly polite, kind, and obviously knew what he was doing. He explained everything to me so clearly and concisely I totally knew what decisions to make without much hemming or hawing - that's something I never thought possible! He immediately saw my tanks and told me they were from the 1950's (bah, cheap prior owner, makes sense my tanks were crap) and needed replacing - period. He explained so many things to me in the process - how to gauge the propane levels in the gauge-less tank, for instance - and even started up my sketchy spa heater to use up the remaining propane. This is over the top - but I have a tech coming out to look at that heater next, because it made funny noises - but Tyler heard the noises & immediately exclaimed "I know what's happening" before twiddling around the pipes for a minute. Voila! Heater fixed. Apparently it wasn't getting enough water sent to it from the pipe system we had, and in a few seconds he fixed it. He then went on to review my options - we narrowed the options down to two tanks, and Tyler informed me of a few things to consider when choosing. We reviewed the tanks with and without gauges, the amount of propane the tanks carried and how frequently we were to go through them, the refill process (both price & physical expectations - removing tank to refill or installing a gate to grant access, etc). He even did a cost breakdown for me comparing my future fills with one tank as opposed to the other, and the difference was significant. Though installing a gate is the last thing I need to add to my to-do list, he explained precisely why this was for the better in the long run - then conceded that he'd install without the gate the very next day - giving me more time to get the gate installed (and less stress). Though I expected to get a fill mid-next week (this visit was just servicing the existing tanks), Tyler contacted dispatch in front of me and got me on the calendar the very next day. He broke down the prices for me and informed me of everything it included - and here's the kicker - didn't charge me for today's visit. Because he didn't physically do anything, just saw I needed new tanks & scheduled it. I was expecting to pay for today's service visit on top of potentially purchasing a new tank - but he told me that he didn't do anything except give me information, and that was how their company rolled - so the price I'm going to pay tomorrow will not only include the service for the install, the propane tank itself filled, the regulator valves and the hog tails (all explained to me on site) but it will also include the earlier visit. He was so cordial and knowledgeable, and explained everything to me so simply and succinctly (without talking down to me). When I called to give my credit card after Tyler left, the woman on the phone was brilliant as well! It was like a phone call to an old high school pal - she was so polite but friendly and bubbly! I chatted with her about Tyler's excellent customer service while scheduling the install, and felt as thought I'd known her for years. I can't believe that I'm now in the position of having to pay their company money, but still feel so happy and thankful for their service! Usually, when I have to open my pocketbook I'm grumpy and unhappy regardless of the situation involved - but I'm not feeling anything but grateful for having discovered Acorn right now. I love me some Acorn gas! I met Mike a loooong time ago and I appreciated his honesty & willingness to satisfy customers. As a gas contractor putting in gas lines & LP tanks I need someone to refer them to for filling their tanks and the company that I was cautiously referring before Acorn just wasn't cutting the mustard! My name is everything to me and if I'm going to refer somebody they've got to be the best because all my customers will remember is me when they get that sour taste in their mouth from a poor referral. So far to date, I've helped save customers a lot of money switching over to Acorn as well as putting a smile on their face with excellent customer service from both Mike & his guys.
