Before signing up online I went to inspect the property. I saw a large transparent garage door for customer vehicle entrance, two available lumber yard style dollies, a clean and modern facility, and one of 2 operating elevators. had come to take none of these things for granted. Extra Space really needs to say more about their amenities on the website. There was a red flag though: no one in the office. That had been a recurring problem with the other facility. I still had some questions not covered on the website and the chat line was busy. I called. That didn't turn out well. I was asked to verify everything that I had just entered online and was asked to enter my CC on the telephone key pad which kept failing. When the woman on the other end said she would get technical help I hung up and started over. I already had my questions answered. After that, I saw a sign in the window saying the attendant was on the property and gave a number to reach her/him. A good sign, but it had just been put there. A few minutes later the attendant showed up. All that was not enough was not enough to take off a star. When you choose a size locker, if there's more than one of the same type available you are shown a map and you get to choose the location. You pay for the lock on registration which is unique to the Extra Space, in which you insert into the specially designed doors. It's easy to use and hard to pick.

My stuff has been baking in this heat the entire time. Their response? I have to come in and prove my contract says climate controlled before they'll move me to a proper unit. And since no one's on the property until tomorrow, my belongings get to cook in that oven another day. I couldn't even email it to them. They charged me for something that didn't exist, and somehow the burden of proof is on me. Avoid.

To make matters worse I cannot gain access to my stuff, neither with the app or with the touchpad at the gate. Either the code was changed without my knowledge, or there was a clerical error. My last access was in November, and I'm enrolled in auto-pay. Obviously this is not a good place to put your stuff if you like to have access to it. I'm at a loss to explain the positive reviews. Update for Jan 15. There was someone at the office that day. He was friendly and tried to address my new problem. That is, there were no dollies. A plus at this facility is that there are long flat dollies like you find at a big box hardware store. They are essential for me since my locker is more than 50 yards from the elevator. The person on duty conjectured that some people were keeping them in their lockers. The app was able to open the gate today but it took a few reboots of the app to get it to work. January 22. Just when you think it can't get any worse, it does. When I went to access some items from my locker, I found a water leak right on top of my electric chain saw, and its charger. Still no dollies in evidence . The attendant claims there is one and people have been fighting over it. January 29, elevator still out of service. The puddle has almost dried in the unit. I'm hoping to move out before the next big snow melt, and more possible damage, but without a dolly and an operating elevator I'm a prisoner. February 14 the elevator was repaired after a week and a dolly is sometimes available. But new problems emerged. I spoke with a district manager who tried to get me a reimbursement of rent already paid but what happened was the record of rent paid disappeared. Now I'm getting daily calls, texts and/or emails demanding payment of "past due" rent. Calls to rectify the matter have not sufficed. Today I was lucky enough to gain access to my locker to remove the lighter and more valuable items. The heavier stuff I didn't have the means to remove and the electric chainsaw was already destroyed. I left the lock off the locker. The threat of losing my stuff was becoming more real, and I had to cut my losses. I'm ashamed I stayed this long. Update: The problem of alleged non-payment was resolved after some time but late fees accrue and the calls and texts keep coming. No way to move the last three items out without a dolly or access. fees accrue and the calls and texts keep coming. Fortunately, Jay, who has always been helpful, secured me a dolly, and got me a temporary entrance code and I was able to clear the remaining items to the dumpster. The same day I paid the remaining rent and late fees.

I'm not the only person they did the same increase to. We have several other units and between them, they were raised $175. a month. So with this unit added on, the amount raised totals $220 each month. We don't have extra money on a fixed income, Social Security. We haven't met the new crew yet, but we were always treated good and with respect from the old crew, especially the hired help Lisa more than the managers. We saw her more often, and she is an asset to the company. The previous manager Mike wanted to keep us as clients so they didn't apply as steep a raise when prices went up. The new owners raised everything all at once, taking money from food and needed prescriptions. I guess they don't want to keep the older dependable clients who have been there for years. There is always the fear of being told to leave because we complained about the price increases

There is great security here and I never felt like my possessions were in danger of being damaged by weather or being taken by thieves. Not only do you need a code (that you set yourself) to get in the gate, you also need a different one to get in the building itself where I had my things stored. The customer service here is outstanding and very professional. I never had any issues with trying to get in touch with someone on the rare occasion that I needed to. The storage areas are clean and very well lit and maintained, and it's one of the more reasonably priced facilities that I was able to find. Would highly recommend these folks if you are in need!

Due to the top-notch security system, I never had any problems getting access to my unit. No one ever broke into it either. The system is set up where you have to input a unique personal code to even enter the property. Nice little protective measure, right there at the street. Then you drive to your unit, which can be either indoors or outdoors. Mine was inside, because I wanted a warmer, drive-up space for all my stuff. Having the car parked inside--right next to the unit--is very convenient. There are other features that keep everything secure. For example, the doors to the building housing the indoor units will not open unless a valid personal code has been input at the entrance gate. Also, the unique personal codes are linked to specific storage units. So you have to unlock and enter your unit, or else the system will alert an on-site employee. Translation: anyone who is not authorized to enter the property will be unable to gain access to any storage units. Even the people who have legitimate units can only enter their own particular storage spaces. Speaking of security, there are surveillance cameras around the property and inside the buildings. A little redundancy there, but additional layers of security and protection are always reassuring. And you can use your own lock, whatever you prefer. One unusual feature is that the buildings are tucked into a carved-out area of a hillside. That shields everything from the prevailing weather patterns coming out of the north, northwest and west. This makes for warmer conditions. Even during winter visits to my storage units, the 'icebergs' in the wheel wells of my car would start melting and fall off. This facility is situated right on the edge of a large commercial area that contains just about every type of store or restaurant you might need to visit. Closeness to Costco (~ 1 mile away) was helpful to me, because I was able to purchase some inexpensive shelving that helped me get my unit better organized. There's also a Salvation Army Thrift Store nearby. They accepted all my donations of furniture and other salable items when the time came to let go of certain possessions (yes it happens!) and get myself moved out of state on short notice. Finally, the people who work for North Star are very professional, honest and downright helpful. My thanks to you two--Alec and Albert--for the positive difference that you made in my life!

Donated everything to Salvation Army St Paul. Husband became extremely ill eleven years ago. We are in a lovely FL. condo he inherited. MISS Minnesota... people, culture, weather - - LOVE the cold!!!! I now have two brand newly built extra large units at Forest Lake - - grabbed them quickly for they rented out super fast. Great price. New wood pallets on entire floor. Never have water in these units, very high airy ceilings with great ventilation. Yes no heat no air conditioning so no fragile furniture, vinyl, wood, etc, but I put clothing etc in tight giant contractor extra thick plastic bags into tight big Costco ( yellow black) plastic storage boxes ( the Best/ shut very tight). I will be out of a second 30 ft unit at public storage after 1-2 more four week trips. Back breaking work - - am creating a new industry of folk buying my things at Salvation Army then flipping them online! We always expected to be in Mn but the condo's living costs are better than renting today. Goal is to find a solid 1 bedroom in MN, build out to be able to remain until I pass on, rent out FL condo. Reverend Jim the manager is the best, the kindest man you could ever ever find and work with. No bugs no rodents all these years. Immaculate rest room at office, safe secure, no crazies renting ' next door'. Women working there solo feel 100 % safe. High fence with barbed wire surround the large rural country property. Nice relaxing 30 minute drive up from the twin cities. Highly highly highly recommend!!
