Before signing up online I went to inspect the property. I saw a large transparent garage door for customer vehicle entrance, two available lumber yard style dollies, a clean and modern facility, and one of 2 operating elevators. had come to take none of these things for granted. Extra Space really needs to say more about their amenities on the website. There was a red flag though: no one in the office. That had been a recurring problem with the other facility. I still had some questions not covered on the website and the chat line was busy. I called. That didn't turn out well. I was asked to verify everything that I had just entered online and was asked to enter my CC on the telephone key pad which kept failing. When the woman on the other end said she would get technical help I hung up and started over. I already had my questions answered. After that, I saw a sign in the window saying the attendant was on the property and gave a number to reach her/him. A good sign, but it had just been put there. A few minutes later the attendant showed up. All that was not enough was not enough to take off a star. When you choose a size locker, if there's more than one of the same type available you are shown a map and you get to choose the location. You pay for the lock on registration which is unique to the Extra Space, in which you insert into the specially designed doors. It's easy to use and hard to pick.

This gets long due to the sheer quantity of problems and evidence of mismanagement and corruption…read more At the time of this writing, there has been no one in the office for 2 days (Thursday Jan 2, and Friday Jan 3)and no one has responded to my telephone messages. To make matters worse I cannot gain access to my stuff, neither with the app or with the touchpad at the gate. Either the code was changed without my knowledge, or there was a clerical error. My last access was in November, and I'm enrolled in auto-pay. Obviously this is not a good place to put your stuff if you like to have access to it. I'm at a loss to explain the positive reviews. Update for Jan 15. There was someone at the office that day. He was friendly and tried to address my new problem. That is, there were no dollies. A plus at this facility is that there are long flat dollies like you find at a big box hardware store. They are essential for me since my locker is more than 50 yards from the elevator. The person on duty conjectured that some people were keeping them in their lockers. The app was able to open the gate today but it took a few reboots of the app to get it to work. January 22. Just when you think it can't get any worse, it does. When I went to access some items from my locker, I found a water leak right on top of my electric chain saw, and its charger. Still no dollies in evidence . The attendant claims there is one and people have been fighting over it. January 29, elevator still out of service. The puddle has almost dried in the unit. I'm hoping to move out before the next big snow melt, and more possible damage, but without a dolly and an operating elevator I'm a prisoner. February 14 the elevator was repaired after a week and a dolly is sometimes available. But new problems emerged. I spoke with a district manager who tried to get me a reimbursement of rent already paid but what happened was the record of rent paid disappeared. Now I'm getting daily calls, texts and/or emails demanding payment of "past due" rent. Calls to rectify the matter have not sufficed. Today I was lucky enough to gain access to my locker to remove the lighter and more valuable items. The heavier stuff I didn't have the means to remove and the electric chainsaw was already destroyed. I left the lock off the locker. The threat of losing my stuff was becoming more real, and I had to cut my losses. I'm ashamed I stayed this long. Update: The problem of alleged non-payment was resolved after some time but late fees accrue and the calls and texts keep coming. No way to move the last three items out without a dolly or access. fees accrue and the calls and texts keep coming. Fortunately, Jay, who has always been helpful, secured me a dolly, and got me a temporary entrance code and I was able to clear the remaining items to the dumpster. The same day I paid the remaining rent and late fees.

I'm not the only person they did the same increase to. We have several other units and between them, they were raised $175. a month. So with this unit added on, the amount raised totals $220 each month. We don't have extra money on a fixed income, Social Security. We haven't met the new crew yet, but we were always treated good and with respect from the old crew, especially the hired help Lisa more than the managers. We saw her more often, and she is an asset to the company. The previous manager Mike wanted to keep us as clients so they didn't apply as steep a raise when prices went up. The new owners raised everything all at once, taking money from food and needed prescriptions. I guess they don't want to keep the older dependable clients who have been there for years. There is always the fear of being told to leave because we complained about the price increases

This Uhaul place is alright by me. We've used them three times now, once to move here from Texas…read more(about a year ago), and two other times to move from our apartment to our new home in Bloomington (across two weekends last month). Our first time with these folks was simply to drop off the massive 26' footer we'd driven from Texas. We'd done our best to get it unloaded on time, and we rolled it in mere minutes past our drop-off time, close to when the place closed; we feared the worst. But these guys were totally chill and didn't charge us a dime for going over. That was SO appreciated after a stressful, hectic move that they didn't take advantage of our slight tardiness. Our second and third uses were just in-town daily rentals, picking up and dropping off at the same location. Each time was a relatively quick process of just waiting in the line of the morning, supplying our info, being given the keys, and walking across the street to find our designated vehicle. The employees we interacted with were all in decent spirits and helpful. Nothing over the top amazing, but just fine. I was impressed by the amount of items available in the office/shop. Pretty much if you've accidentally forgotten something important day-of like locks or tie-offs or hitches or packing materials or bike racks or heck, even cedar chips to ward off moths, they have it for sale. It probably will cost you a little extra than say at Walmart, but at least you won't have to take time out of your moving day to make an additional stop. Honestly the only thing we found personally annoying was the process of reserving online ahead of time. The website doesn't work super good on mobile, and the upselling is obnoxious. You'll be deselecting A LOT of extraneous things like dollies and boxes and blankets, etc. it "helpfully" places in your cart without you asking. The trucks themselves are what you'd expect. Some are in better condition than others, some are a little cleaner than others, but they're all serviceable and seem to get the job done okay. If you're dropping off in this location and need to fill the tank, I personally recommend Leroy's over the BP. The BP happens to be more convenient, but Leroy's is significantly cheaper, so if you're needing a sizeable refill, your wallet will thank you for making a couple obnoxious left turns.

Ended up going 2 hours the wrong direction to get the auto-hauler from another U-Haul location. Truck was only at 1/4 tank when supplied. Engine blew out in New Mexico on the truck. Roadside assistance took 6 hours for the truck tow and I handled the auto hauler by calling someone 2 hours away. Called customer service later and was told only roadside assistance is offered 24/7 and no money discounts ever per the small print. Go to Penske or others. Stay away from Bloomington U-Haul.
