Acme is a local gem! The bakery is excellent and the variety of breads, baked goods, sweet treats etc is just amazing! The staff is also so kind and friendly that it really is a joy to visit their charming store! They are famous for their bread and baguettes which are fantastic !! 10/10. My personal favourites are the Levain and the Sweet Italian baguette. In addition to their breads, their croissants are absolutely exquisite! They are perfectly flaky, not heavy or too buttery, baked to perfection and are consistently delicious! 15/10. I try to get them whenever they are available as they sell out fast! The plain croissant is my favourite but their almond and chocolate ones are very very good as well. I also always get their apple tart 12/10 which is divine and the perfect accompaniment to a nice cup of coffee. Note: You need to go before noon or as early as possible if you want to try some croissants! In addition to all this, in the summer they have the most amazing tomato pizza and they have only the one kind based on seasonal ingredients which is great. The tomatoes are always so fresh and I think the way they bake it so that there is tomato in the crust makes it so unique. The pizza by far is one of the best I have ever tried 15/10. The winter one is mushroom but my personal favourite is the tomato so Ill wait for its return :) Honestly, it's impossible to write how good the bakery is in words so I recommend trying it for yourself ! I walked here in the rain and I have to say it's so worth it. The mushroom pesto pizza was fresh out of the oven and the guy in the front convinced me to get it. Honestly it didn't take much convincing at all. Haha. The crust was a still a little crunchy, it was warm, the toppings were delicious, and the bread part of a bit chewy. Just how I like it! I will definitely be getting this again. I also go the cheddar biscuit and that was also super good. Great flavor and a little crunchy in the outside and soft in the middle. I wish I liked this bakery more than I do. Though the service and ambiance of Acme is nice. I like to try something new every once in a while to see if I like it and that happened this time with the Mushroom Pizza. The flavors went so well together. The mushroom and olives gave a really nice overall umami flavor that contrasted nicely to the sweet onions, mild cheese, and flavor of the pesto. Pricey but excellent bread and stuff... you can get it at various markets but freshest is still at their store, where people start lining up way before they even open. Got to check out Acme bread bakery over the weekend and I'm so glad I did! One thing I'd recommend is going early when they open up. We arrived around 8:30-8:45am and the line was already wrapped around the building but luckily it wasn't too long of a wait. They have tons of breads/pastries for you to choose from like apple tarts, ham and cheese, jalapeño & olive bread, are some of my favorites! We got quite a bit of different bread and I'm so glad we did because it's rare that I'm in Berkeley so I thought I'd try everything! Overall, workers there was super nice and welcoming and the bread all tasted amazing! Oh i forgot to mention they have a private parking lot which I didn't realize till I waited in line and noticed it then lol. I hope to come back again soon! read more

Our favorite local bakery living in Emeryville. Our favorite item is their pizza, especially their mushroom pizza because it's savory, hot (if you're lucky to arrive when it's newly made), and it's the most amazing veggie pizza I've tasted (apart from Cheeseboard but I feel like I can't compare because of its thickness!). That's another thing - this pizza "slice" is like $6 and it will fill you up! It's super fluffy and thicccc in the best way possible. As for the other breads, we've tried a variety of different pastries like their seasonal items and they've all been solid. I appreciate that they're encouraging masks to be worn inside because it is a small shop. There's always a line and usually two parties are allowed and you tell the cashier what you'd like to order. I think the most we've waited was around 20 minutes during an early Saturday morning. Overall a great spot if you love bread! read more

Came here on my last day visiting a girlfriend in Oakland. I was really really excited and ready to buy way too much bread to bring home. I don't love sweet pastries so I damn near ordered every savory bread they had Herb Loaf- Wow. I highly highly recommend this. The rosemary in this made this so flavorful and I just cubed it up and ate it by itself on its own. Hella Wet Levain- I love a good dense bread. The inside of this was delicious. Personally didn't love how many seeds were on the outside It made it a bit bitter. Sourdough cheese roll- this thing was the first thing to disappear when we started eating. The addition of the cheese on top of the roll was delicious Sorta cross bun- the only sweet thing I got. I really like d Cheese twist- Tasted like a big cheese it. Loved it Cheddar biscuit- Maybe because I waited until the end of the day to eat this but this was a little dry. This was the only thing that wasn't finished outside of the loaves Mushroom Pizza- Ate this on the drive down and it was delicious. A little greasy (gave me focaccia vibes) Jalapeño cheese turnover- Get this! Eating this had me regret not trying more of the other turnovers I will absolutely be back! The two fellas at the front counter really hustle to keep that ever-present line moving briskly. But where is the tip jar for these magicians?!! When in Berkeley, I must always stop by to pick up goodies. Love their baguettes, pizza, and choc chip short bread cookies!!

Have generally avoided coming here since there was always a line and I never wanted to wait. Came by on a weekend day, about 15 min before it opened, and there was still a line (though small). Figured it didn't seem like it would be that long of a wait and I am happy that I did. The line moves decently fast, about 2-3 minutes/person as an estimate. The shop itself is small and lets 2 groups in at a time. There is a plethora of things to choose from. The entire back wall is bread and off to the side are various pastries. Ended up getting a variety of things. Would recommend the jalapeno cheese turnover if there are available, my favorite of the things I got. A close second is the goat cheese puff pastry. Highly recommend either of those. The cheddar biscuit and almond croissant were good but wouldn't say they're the best I've ever had. Will need to come back and try more things. Would recommend coming on a weekday if possible (per the person behind me in line saying that in they don't have to wait as long normally), but think that the wait is worth it. Of note, they have various baked goods that they sell to help benefit a local institution, if you can contribute it's a good way and get a tasty treat out of it. read more

An absolutely delicious recommendation from our friend. Three words: get the pizza! The smell inside this bakery is decadent, and is a sneak peek into the mouthwatering delights that it sells. There is oftentimes a long line out the door, but the line moves fairly fast so don't worry! We got the pizza, and it was truly a 5/5. The pizza dough is chewy with an EXCELLENT consistency, and the toppings were truly amazing. I especially loved the small mushrooms that they put on top (kind of reminiscent of a thicker enoki mushroom). There was also a nice balance of herbs and garlic, and it was overall not too salty nor too oily. The slice is pretty spendy, but they also are super generous in their portion size so it is pretty much a full meal. I was definitely full and satisfied after getting one slice! Tonight as I was sorting my purchase and putting them inside a ziplock to preserve freshness. I noticed they only gave me 2 cheddar biscuits. I know it's only less than $3 for each but I trusted the person behind the counter to get my order right. I noticed the person that helped me might have been a new employee. She was asking her male coworker for help during my ordering process. I did not have a big order. She needs to be careful and not miss any of the customers order. Although mine was just a $3 item it is still bad for business as I am a regular weekly customer there. I will give her another chance. If it ever happens again. Have loved their bread for years which is available all over the Bay Area, today we finally got the chance to shop in the bakery. There was a bit of a line, but not too bad. We tried a few things, like the pain au chocolat, cinnamon swirl, an olive roll and a Kaiser roll with poppy seeds. The pastries were ok, but definitely had better. The olive roll and Kaiser roll were good and like smaller versions of the bread. Might have also been that we came too late on Sunday to get really fresh baked goods. Best thing since sliced bread. I bought half the shop in anticipation, so it turned out to a bready-kinda day. Apple tart, pumpkin bread (chalk stuffed with berries btw) and a small raspberry dark choc minipuff were all right on point. The croissant bread in the apple tart was so good I found myself enjoying that more than the sweet stuff in the middle. A cheddar-biscuit helped with the savory cravings, as did the wet levain. I'm in Berkley at my brothers house so I hiked a whole block away to ACME bakery (whew how exhausting was that) (1 of 3 in Berkley). They have phenomenal baked goods. My sister and I from Vernon Hills walked their @ 6:30 only to realize they don't open until 8am. We had to kill some time so we wandered down the street to Rainbow Donuts about 4 blocks down and got some coffee & of course a donut. By the time we got back around 7:30am the parking lot was full & a line was already forming (did I say how popular this place is?). We are driving down to San Luis Obisbo where my niece is graduating tomorrow so I bought a couple of their loafs of bread w/caramelized walnuts and raisins (sheer heaven). This bread was sent down from Mount Olympus from the Gods so us mere mortals could get a taste of the food of the Gods. What can I say about Acme Bread Company that hasn't been said already? I'm just grateful to the Bread Gods that I live 1 mile away from the best damn bakery in the Bay Area. I stopped by to pick up 2 baguettes and walked out with some extra goodies like the jalapeño cheddar bread, olive bread, and the cranberry walnut bread. My dinner guests asked "Oh you stood in that line?" as though I'd climbed My Everest. Yes, I stood in the line that moves really fast and mindlessly scrolled through social media... 10 minutes later I was holding a paper bag full of delicious, perfectly baked bread. I loved everything but the cranberry walnut bread was gone in one sitting. Wait in line forever, walk up to the window, make your order quickly, double check they put everything in your bag, pay and walk away. Seriously, double check that you got everything you ordered. I've been twice in the last 2 months and both times they shorted me something, but neither time did they forget to charge me. I didn't appreciate that, but I guess it's because they're busy.
