My friend NEVER received referral fee and after three technicians over two visits to install, the system still does not work properly and they want $90/30 min (incl travel) to fix their system that was installed improperly. By the time the app loads to secure remotely, the thieves could have walked every major appliance out of your home. Sure they say they are affordable but don't believe them; up sale non responsive and rip off. Worth the money to go with another company. DONT make my mistake, if you don't have down payment and worried about house not being protected, go unprotected a few months to save money up because with Ackerman you're home and family won't be safe if you can't afford the $90 (seriously) service fee for them to only mess up again for you to have to call rip off cycle. BE AWARE: ACKERMAN SECURITY SYSTEMS GIVES YOU A FALSE SENSE OF SECURITY! YOU ARE NOT SECURE WITH THEM! If your security system is set to use your main phone line for monitoring, then ANYONE can cut your phone line or disconnect it from the distribution box and break into your home!. Ackerman will know NOTHING because THEY ARE NOT monitoring (pinging) the phone line to know when the line is live and when is dead. I had ADT before and stupidly believed Ackerman's sale rep that his company offers EVERYTHING ADT does. FALSE! From ADT I would get a call on my cell in minutes after my home phone line would go down, to make sure I am safe and nobody cut the line on purpose to break in without being detected. With Ackerman - I "broke" into my home 3 times and with all alarms off I called them to ask what is happening at the house, and they informed me "EVERYTHING IS OK" (while the alarms were screaming). When explained them this was NOT the case, they informed me that it is NOT THEIR job to monitor if the phone line is live or dead!! I originally had ADT as my security system. I kept seeing Ackerman commercials advertising for their price of $19.99 for their monthly service fee. As I pay the security bill, I was glad to learn that I could pay such a low fee! My mom had also stated that she heard Ackerman was a good security company. My bill with ADT was a ridiculous $46.90-something a month. I'm saving more than half! I can also upgrade my system to a touch screen console & be able to utilize our cell phones with our service and still pay less than I paid with ADT! My sister has ADT & I encouraged her to switch, only she has to wait 10 more months for her contract to be up...bummer...she pays $50 something! I was able to get scheduled quickly for the rep (Stephen) to come sign me up for the service & also for the tech (Brian) to come re-configure my system. They were both very nice and were ble to answer all of my questions. I was even able to get a free key fab. Good thing b/c mine was broken! So glad I switched! read more

If I could write a zero star review I would. Used their services for monitoring for my business location. Their pricing was very good...what they won't tell you is that if they screw up reprogramming the system and have to come out they'll charge you a service charge. Though I went through the process of disputing the bill with Ackerman they refused to get rid of the bill. They kept sending me invoices and I kept calling them to complain that charging me because their installer screwed up was not acceptable. When I told them I would not pay for their mistakes they then charged my bank account (the one I gave them for my monitoring costs,) and I was forced to dispute this with the bank. What a sleazy way to do business! I would steer clear of them - I would cancel their service right now, but I signed a contract and I'm stuck with them for 2 years. Avoid the heartache...the cheap monitoring cost is simply their way of getting their hooks in you. Stay away - it's no bargain! read more

Leo came and we gave him a full list of everything on our security system including the make and model of our panel. He said the $19.99 a month wouldn't work and it would be $35.00. He also said we needed a new radio and it would be $99. We agreed and had the install scheduled and paid the $99. William came and said the $99 unit wouldn't work and we needed to pay $299. We refused. He put the panel back together and left. We then noticed our heating until wasn't working. I called Ackerman and was told they weren't responsible. I explained I have a 3 year old and a 8 month pregnant wife. Leo didn't care. I had to call a heating company. It turned out the tech turned off the emergency shut off. My old system doesn't work at all and Ackerman will not do anything unless we pay the extra $200 in addition to the $99 we already paid. When we asked to be reimbursed they wanted us to mail them. I have a very old Dictograph ( now serviced by ADT ) system that finally stopped working. Suggestions from the ADT rep. were not acceptable, so I contacted Ackerman for an opinion. Charles presented a system that was quite acceptable with the best protection and a very reasonable cost. The monitoring cost is half the amount from ADT and the option for either 1, 2, or 3 years coverage is a plus compared to ADT, which required a 3 year contract. I chose the 1 year plan but can add on later. My system was installed by Hugo, who was pleasant, efficient, knowledgeable and courteous. If Ackerman provides me with the quality of service as described above, we will continue to give them good reviews. However, as we all know, everyone does not have a favorable opinion to share. We had a company that did heating, a/c, mechanical and Lord knows what else. The service was ridiculously poor and when Chris From Ackerman came out and went over our system, there was a big sigh of relief at our house. We had alarms go off and no one call us, try sleeping soundly with that on your mind. Ackerman is 100 percent security and we were able to upgrade our system to be current with technology and give the whole family access with simple operating platforms for just a few dollars more than what we paying for with the old system. Now my family has the real peace of mind of having a security system protecting us. We had another home security company for many years and switched to Ackerman a couple of years ago - huge mistake. We have a wireless system which constantly loses radio connection causing an annoying constant beeping- round the clock. This occurs several times daily-imagine trying to relax after a stressful day with that annoyance in the background. We have had a tech out to check but it has not been resolved. He mentioned adding an antenna. If that was the case why not install one in the beginning. We NEVER lost radio connection with the previous company, nor did we have issues with the magnets. I should mention Ackerman used our existing system. I would not recommend going with Ackerman - not worth the savings given the aggravation. read more

Back in July 2016 I bought and moved in my first house in a neighborhood in Southern Prince George's County. I was so pumped up about living in this neighborhood that I forgot to activate the alarm system. In June 2017 I was the victim of a break in. The police caught all three suspects. I immediately called Ackerman. They responded and activated my current alarm system at no cost to me. I was very happy with the service my technician Ben provided. He patiently and professionally explained the 'zone' identity that was not clear in the paperwork I had from the initial installation. He also showed me what was causing and 'check zone 12' msg. I couldn't figure out. I could write a chapter about how good Ben is but to just summarize, if Ben shows up as your technician you will not be disappointed, you'll be very happy too!
