I'd like to propose a class action law suit with everyone else in this thread with the same experience as me. Never in my life have I dealt with a more disreputable company. I have tried to cancel my account with this company on three occasions yet they continue to remove funds from my account without permission. I paid a two year contract up front and wanted to cancel when my contract was up. I never authorized them to directly debit my bank account yet they continue to do so. They falsely told me that I'd committed to 3 years, a year ago when I tried to cancel. They sent me paperwork to fill in to cancel for the 4th year and now they claim that they never received it!! I have done everything asked of me and they continue to lie to me and take my money. I have had to put stop payments on my bank account and legal action is the next step. They are straight up thieves!!!! I only chose this company bc it was in the house when i bought it. I have had much better, less expensive and scrupulous service from other companies. I would rather my home be robbed than continue to be robbed by a company pretending to protect my assets. read more

The service is very tricky, it looks affordable. 8 years back switched from ADT due to the price. They used the alarm system and sensors that ADT had installed to provide the service. One time the sensor was constantly beeping. I called the CS, they sent the technician who charged me $70 to replace the battery. CSR didn't inform me that there will be a charge. Fortunately, there was never need for the alarm to go off. I am not sure even if they monitor. I disconnected my landline, but their system either didn't recognize the absence of landline even it was to work on the landline or they intentionally didn't notify me. They kept on charging my account for 1 year. When I called to cancel the service,they replaced the alarm system, but they didn't replace the sensors. The alarm system keep on beeping. When I called the customer service, they mentioned that there will be service charge and price of the sensors. Instead of fixing the issue, the rude CSR in cancellation department cancelled the service. They are still charging my account. Wish I had read the reviews before signing the contract. read more

Horrible customer service. Be careful with signing a 3 year contract. They will still charge you additional fees every year. They just charged my credit card, without my authorization for $15 for, they say, a tax increase. Stay will ADT if you are with them. Just call ADT and they will match Ackerman's price. read more

I had an amazing experience with Ackerman and I am so glad that I now pay less than I did before with one of their competitors! From the beginning until the end I received exceptional service. The sales rep was very professional and was able to answer all my questions and concerns; he actually listened to me instead of trying to just sell me some "stuff." I truly believe that Ackerman has a lot to offer with cutting edge technology for a very affordable price. I'm not sure how long they will keep their $18.95 a month promo, but I am happy to say I locked in my rate for 3 years, so no complaints here! read more

Be aware that if you sign a contract with ackerman the contract will be automatically renew and in order to cancel you have to let them know by mail and 60 days before the contract ends. Warning!!! Don't do it.. Save your money. Find another company. I had All I wanted was security cameras added to my security system that was already installed. I have the cameras but everything else that can go wrong has gone wrong. Nothing is working right. First of all my system was unnecessarily upgraded. The chimes are off one of the doors. One of my zones kept getting an error so u til today when the technician came out to repair, I had to bypass it to set the alarm. My old keypad was not programmed to the new system and has been inoperative since the upgrade. The installer wired the front and garage door together. The Installer put the Total connect app on my phone but didn't set it up correctly so I was not getting the notifications from my cameras. It has been 8 days since the installation and I have to wait another week before there will be total resolution. At least I think . I may find something else wrong. Well I haven't found anything else wrong but unfortunately I have more to add. I should have bought the Ring and cut my losses. So today August 17th was my appointment to address the issues with the inoperative keypad. The appointment window was 2-5pm. I waited and then I called at 4: 55 pm. I was told that the technician had come at 2:05 but no one was home. Well I don't know what doorbell the technician rang and whose home he arrived at but the camera that one of his co workers installed never showed him at my door at anytime on August 17th 2018. between 2-5pm. read more

Zero expectations meet. I worked with the "general manager" Fela Reynolds to schedule my estimate, he was an hour and forty minutes late to the appointment he scheduled. My home is 3 years old with a new security system, I just needed to change providers for fire monitoring per my insurance company. Fela told me on the phone this was easy and they could take over existing systems, "we do it all the time" By the time he was done with his grand sales presentation I needed almost $1,500 in new equipment??? I ask if there were and discounts available for military, Fela's answer " your job is discounted $1,400.00 because I waived the commission, I am the general manager and I don't get commission so I give it back to the client"....wait, so I would pay $1,400 more if I didn't have the GM at my house?? I needed to get this done so I agreed, time to sign papers..."oh, I forgot you need two additional pieces of equipment because your system has hardwired and WiFi equipment", $600 more. Time to schedule...I did not need a specific day, just wanted first appointment of the day. More BS answers from Fela about where the guys live, what time they start, some guys start at different time etc. Received an automated message from their office the following day saying my tech would arrive between 8-12. Can we please get anything right??? By 12 no on has shown up or called, called Fela, no answer. Emailed Fela, no response. Called customer service, what appointment?? At 4pm I get a call from a tech asking if I want someone to still come out today????No, I want to cancel and my money back! Fela calls the next day to ask how my install went, you have to be kidding me.??? I have requested a refund multiple times (since April 12) and have been given the run around by Fela multiple times and never received a call back. Just got of the phone with my credit card company and they have disputed the charges, now someone at Ackerman has to do extra work because Fela doesn't. If you read this far I hope you realize that I am not upset with Ackerman, they are a very well know company, My issue is with Fela, he continued to puff his chest that he is the GM and how seamless he makes the whole experience and said several time "I give you my word" or "I will personally handle this". Never once did Fela, obviously your word means nothing. Also, I went with Ackerman because of the great interaction I had with one of the service guys Joe, sorry Fela failed you to Joe..maybe you can talk Fela's job!! read more

I purchased a house with an existing alarm system. The alarm company that the seller was using (Stanley Security) told me the system was obsolete, could not be serviced, and all they would offer was a 3-year firm contract. Ackerman was the opposite. They came out, evaluated the system, told me that it was perfectly fine and that they could handle it with no problem. The person who visited me was extremely familiar with our system, and security systems in general. He spent an hour with us and explained the contract which was 2/3 the cost of the other one, and, although for a set term, has the ability to withdraw. It really was a pleasure to deal with them and they have accommodated our request to change the installation date with no problem, and with a written confirmation of the change. read more

Ackerman has the WORST customer service of any company that I have ever dealt with. I am writing this after numerous encounters with them regarding the repair of my alarm system. They will sell you the system, and be quick to sell you the monthly maintenance. But oh boy you are in trouble if you need service on the system. read more

I accidentally set my alarm off a couple of days ago when I entered through my garage. I heard the land line ringing and knew it was Ackerman calling to make sure everything was okay. I recently had surgery, so I could not make it up the stairs fast enough to answer, but I figured they would call my cell phone next. My cell phone never rang and police were never dispatched. It was very unsettling to me because it could have been a legitimate break-in! I was actively searching for a new security company because I had lost all confidence in Ackerman, but their customer service is so stellar that they have regained my trust! Mr. Forsythe, customer representative, called me the day after I posted my concern and explained that I was not called on my cell phone because I deactivated the alarm with my key fob within less than 30 seconds. He was genuine and very thorough in helping me to understand the process and did not make me feel like he was trying to spin the incident. Keep up the great work Ackerman and I hope all of your customer reps are as professional as Mr. Forsythe! read more

**If you live in the Henry county area please beware if you are assigned ERNEST ADCOCK as your sales representative**. My experience was horrendous. He was completely unprofessional and inappropriate. He asked what kind of liquor I had at my bar because he needed a drink since I was his last appointment, he made flirtatious comments on my hair and my skin. he made me completely uncomfortable in my own home. I was already victimized by the burglary that led me to seek home security but he made me feel victimized all over again. read more

When I was in the market for a professional home security system, it was hard to miss Ackerman's ads everywhere. But it's hard to rate them because after the salesman came, he failed to submit a proposal. I tried to follow up with him by phone and email, no response. Then I tried his manager, whose name and contact info were in the folder he left behind, but also no response. Very unprofessional and if they're too busy for you when they're trying to make the sale imagine how little time they'll have to service you after. Stay away. read more

I was forced to give this one star just to write a review. The bottom feeders that are employed through this so called company are ill mannered, heavy handed crooks that give the old school and modern day mob a bad name! At least with them, then and now, you knew and know what you were getting involved with! NO BS! I have a system already in my apartment. However, I got Ackermans flyer in the mail, so I called for a bit of information. What I got was a hard sales pitch directly! I mean this guy was coming at me so hard and fast, you would of thought he was getting paid by the word and NOT by the appointments he set up. Frankly, I should of just said NO THANKS. That nagging curiosity won over and I scheduled an appointment for a Saturday morning 10am with a Trent Vernon. It was explained to me that this technician Vernon was to "phone me the night before to confirm our 6/3 appointment". DID NOT OCCUR! 8:58am on 6/3, my phone rings, unrecognized #, don't answer. Voicemail from tech Vernon, "sitting in your parking lot, can I come up?" I didn't respond. 9:50am phone call from tech Vernon, "he is downstairs in my building (I live in a security bldg), do we still have an appointment"? Yes. I instruct him to use the callbox so I can buzz him in & under NO CIRCUMSTANCES ENTER THE BUILDING ON YOUR OWN! For whatever reason, the callbox wasn't functioning, by the time I got to the lobby to allow him in, he was already in the building, gone to the toliet & was on my floor! My 6'9" neighbor & I confronted tech Vernon coming off the elevator as to why he illegally entered our building? After stuttering and stamering for a few seconds and staring at his phone, he says "I think this scheduled appointment should be cancelled". You think? Ackermans word is crap! So are their contracts, whether it's monthly, yearly, bi-yearly, or tri-yearly. They are in the PROFESSIONAL SCARE TACTICS BUSINESS! They violate you in your most accessible venue, your home, with your most precious assets, your family! It gets no more personal than this! read more

so far so good, we had an old system in our home that I wanted to activate, the salesman came out was very nice and knowledgable, and explained that they would swap out the old motherboard and one of the keypads for free, and then they would make sure all the old sensors worked. I know that the old system was about 20 years old and the installer ran into some problems with the equipment, but they were resonably priced replacements made. They have come ontime and on the correct dates scheduled and the installer was wonderfully nice. They took all the time they needed to make sure everything was working correctly. I have not had a working surveillance camera system since my original purchase in Jan. 2018!! The customer service has been awful!! I've been ignored, I've had scheduled technician appointments where they were just a no show, no call or text. I've been ignored by a supervisor several times!! I have a stalker/harasser that will not leave me alone!! Had Ackerman Security been providing me SECURITY like their company represents my harasser would have been in jail a long time ago! I have videos, court documents, Ackerman security paperwork, etc. everything I need to file a law suite against this company. I have requested a full refund and to keep the equipment! Literally, once I posted a negative review on Facebook Ackerman thought they could make up for my terrible treatment by sending a technician out IMMEDIATELY. Yet, I have been trying to get a tech out to my home for roughly 2 months. I will just say this....I have a very good pending case of a law suite against this company for not providing me with service since my purchase. Not ONCE has my home surveillance camera system worked. I wouldn't recommend this company to my worst enemy!! I'm so angry with Ackerman Security because I could have put my stalker in jail a long time ago for violating peace orders I have against him! As of now; I'm being ignored by the company completely!! To be honest, I have not had any issues with the service really. But I've recently moved and upon calling to cancel, they informed me I would have to send a letter with a bunch of information to them by postal mail (who does that in 2017) to cancel the service. And of course I have to pay until they receive the letter. Complete nonsense and just a stupid hurdle to punish anyone for canceling service. Don't Do It! Ackerman sucks you in with a low rate if you sign up for three years, but then provides absolutely horrible service. Battery needs replacing in the keypad and they won't send a battery out or let you replace it yourself. Sends a technician out with questionable English skills that pops the battery in, pushes a few buttons and then charges you $100 for the service call. Call Center phones once a week saying they are receiving a "Tamper Alert" on one of your sensors. What does that mean? I don't know and they don't either. The alarm doesn't go off, but they think someone is tampering with the sensor / system. I'm not an idiot, I've changed the batteries in all my wireless senors. Tech comes out, pushes a few buttons, can't / won't tell me what is wrong and charges another $100 service call fee. Very pushy about getting their service contract, but as we all know, these contracts benefit Ackerman, not you. They claim a technician must come out as it is a liability issue, but ADP use to walk me through the steps and then test the system to ensure it works. SOLUTION: Go to Amazon and order Smart Things door / window sensors, motion detectors, siren and fire / carbon monoxide detectors. Did the whole house for $300 and now monitor myself and control the system from my smart phone. The minute one of the sensors detects intrusion, you get a text message and the stupid loud siren goes off. I decide whether I need to call the Police which I can do with one less step than Ackerman. read more

I would NEVER, recommend this company. I had the worst experience with this company. I too was lied to by Cecilia Angula-Cuzzi. She sat in my kitchen and lied to my husband and I. We specifically asked about the disposition of the contract if we were to move. She she looked me in the eye and said of course if you move the contract will be voided. Not so. The customer service department thought the best remedy for my complaint was to have Cecilia call me and tell me why I was wrong. I really hate being lied to but I REALLY hate being lied to twice by the same person, so I declined. I wish I had read more reviews before ever getting involved with this company. So now I have to pay for services I can't use or they said they would "let me off the hook" so to speak if I convince the next resident in my house to sign up with Ackerman. Yes, that is right if I throw someone else under the bus into a awful long term contract, they will let me out of my contract. Of course that too was only verbalized to me over the phone, not in writing! Sorry, Ackerman, I have to much integrity to let someone else get involved with your company. If Ackerman had a little integrity it might help them get better customer satisfaction rating's. I think I remember learning in a business law class I took years ago that a contract had to benefit both parties. Each party giving and receiving a value, Ackerman seems to have missed that point you can see from the many complaints the Ackerman contract only benefits Ackerman. read more

Ackerman security is a horrible company. To receive repair to my system customer service told me it would take two weeks. So my home went without security for two weeks! I am a widow with children! ! I had an appointment scheduled for this morning 7 -9 am. The guy did not show up until 11:00. The tech had the nerve to say "my bad"I didn't look at my schedule. I am very disappointed in the service I received. And I thought ADT was bad. I will have to screen my vendors better when they are recommended from a "reputable" radio station. read more

When the finally offer came, the total was DOUBLE expected price and offered as an all-or-nothing, take it or leave it deal with no modifications allowed. My installation went smoothly, and the monitoring seemed ok. When I moved and needed to cancel their service I learned the incompetence, or crooked ways, of this company. I called to cancel. A manager told me that the cancellation was processed and a refund for the future billing would be sent. A month later I learned that the cancellation was not processed and I needed to make a written request. A month later I learned that they sent the form---- to the wrong address. Someone e-mailed me the form and I immediately returned it. I was told I'd get a refund in the mail. A month later, no refund was ever sent. I had to contact them again. A check was received for HALF of the amount owed. I had to call them again. They agreed another error was made on their part. A check was sent for the other HALF--- to the wrong address. Seriously? If you don't hunt them down for the money they owe you it will never be seen.--- Crooked practices. read more

We chose Ackerman security due to the low cost they charge for alarm monitoring. As the adage goes you get what you pay for and we would not recommend this company and will be looking for another alarm company. Recently during a wind storm one of our Ackerman signs was damaged and had to be replaced. It took over a month for Ackerman to replace the sign. My wife scheduled an appointment with Ackerman for Saturday, May 2nd, at 8 am. She arranged her schedule to attend this appointment and I stayed awake after working a 12 hour overnight to meet the Ackerman representative at 8 am. No one for Ackerman ever showed up on Saturday or had the decency to call to reschedule the appointment. If you are looking for a company where customer service is a priority then do not chose Ackerman Security for your alarm monitoring. read more

Had Ackerman in Atlanta and never had any issues until I moved up to metro Baltimore. Now I don't even get a call from them when my alarm goes off. Also, they are NOT flexible with their contracts at all. I am moving to an area that is not serviced by Ackerman for work and they won't let me out of the contract I signed even though they don't service where I am going. I understand that I signed a contract but the lack of flexibility and compassion leaves a bad taste in my mouth for Ackerman. Moving for work was unforeseen, I even bought a house in the area that I moved to thinking I'd be here long term. Work had other plans and Ackerman is the only company that is unwilling to budge on the contract. They are only concerned with the money and contract fulfillment. Despite being a long term Ackerman customer in the past, this definitely will keep me from using Ackerman in the future. I give two stars because I never had any of these issues when I used them for several years in Atlanta. Since then, it seems their service has declined. read more

As one reviewer said, you get what you pay for. The service was just okay. Not exceptional. It was difficult to get information from the website and calling them was a hassle. But they do provide basic monitoring at a low cost. The problem I have is when the contract ends - you have to submit a written notice within 60 days of the end of the contract. That's fine. But you have to know when your contract ends! Set your own reminder!! They will not contact you or send a notice. Instead they will automatically renew your service for another year. That's right. Another year.Even though they tell you it's month to month, it's not. It's a year. They are currently charging me for a year of service they are not providing. Stay away from Ackerman. I signed the three year contract and now I'm stuck with an alarm I can't use. The sensors won't stay on the doors and have fallen so many times that two of them are broken. I kept having to bypass one of them just to alarm the system. That worked for awhile but eventually I had problems with that and the alarm went off while I was in the house. Ackerman didn't even bother to call the house or my cell phone. I found out the alarm was going off when the police came knocking at my door. I've called the customer service office several times and I can never get any help. Their office is based in Atlanta and if you call too close to 5 PM they leave you on hold until you hang up. The few times I did get through I've been told that the equipment is my problem. Do yourself a favor and ignore the tv ads for this company. Don't end up like me, paying 43 dollars a month for a yard sign and an alarm you can't use. read more

I've now been with Ackerman for about a year and I continue to be impressed with their customer service. After nearly 20 years one of my sensors went bad and so had Ackerman come out and fix it. The tech (Ben) was terrific! He explained everything to me and replaced the sensor. You always worry when you switch whether the cheaper company will be comparable - well in my case it was MUCH better. With this kind of customer service - I'll never need to switch again. Ackerman Security System provides comparable service to ADT who charges much more for their service plus the technology was outdated.

From the initial no pressure sales visit to to the conversion of our existing home security to Ackerman, it has been a great experience. I would definitely recommend them to anyone looking for home security or looking to move their existing monitoring. read more

If I could give this company 0 stars I would. I have been an Ackerman customer over 7 years. Do not consider using this company if you want operable wireless cameras. I live in DC and have a camera installed on my front porch. It is supposed to record an event every time something is within range of the camera. It has not worked consistently since the install. I have lost hours from work having to have a technician look at the camera, replace cords, etc. I have had several incidents with the cameras not working and theft and damage was done to my home. The representative from Ackerman were not helpful at all when calling the service number 888-999-1070. I spoke with an assistant supervisor, Mike he shared that all he could assist me with is troubleshooting my key pad. After having a package stolen and my mailbox damaged I am not pleased at all with the customer service from this company. I plan to discontinue service and go with another company with more reliable wireless cameras and customer service. POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE AND INOPERABLE WIRELESS CAMERAS! read more
