I found them on Nextdoor after Pest Control tech told me that the bottom part of the garage had holes that the mice might be coming in from. The garage tech came, and he said that he would replace it. I told him what his thoughts were on the garage door cause it was old. He said it was starting to crack. He gave me a quote for a new door. He also stayed a bit later, fixing the garage door until I got the new door. A month later, I put in the request for the new garage door. They installed my original garage door 19 years ago. Called them back for a new set and they promptly scheduled a sales call. Although he showed up an hour late, the salesman Dave was prompt with his estimate. Said he could have it done "mid next week" and that it would be scheduled as soon as we signed the contract. We did. Day one -nothing heard. Day two - nothing heard. Called office. Told it will be at least a few weeks. Got transferred to the Manager, Ryan, who promptly stated that the contract we signed did not have a delivery date on it. Academy Door just replaced both torsion springs on one side of our garage. They installed the new doors and opening system several years ago. They also serviced both sides. William the mechanic was polite, thorough and knowledgeable and the labor charge of just under $200 was reasonable for the high-quality service provided. The problem was with the price of the two exact springs was 500% more than what it could purchase the springs for. My mistake was we brought Academy in for a routine $200 service call and then found out a spring was broken. I was stuck. Subsequently I had another reputable company come in on the same day to provide an estimate for the other side of the garage. Their price was $350 vice the $718 we shelled out to Academy. We could have gotten both garages refurbished for that price. Very disappointed that we got ripped off! read more

I had a pulley wheel on my garage door explode, and the cable was also damaged, so I could not use the garage. I had used Academy Door & Control before when one of the springs broke. Just like last time, they were at my house within 90 minutes. Jorge was excellent. I had all the pulleys upgraded to more heavy-duty ones and had the two lift cables replaced. Jorge also found some missing hardware that he replaced. After doing a complete maintenance on all the parts, the garage door opens and closes better and is much quieter. I should have waited for my other quotes that came back later after I already accepted there offer. The replacement of the Torsion Springs went well, but they then charged $220 per spring. Researching the springs, you can get them for about $100 at Home Depot, so $200 in parts not $420 for the two springs. Be wary. I see Se Woong R. Ran into the same problem. The appointment set up was easy and Academy has multiple methods to pay. Cindy said an installer would be at my home by 8 AM. Luis was waiting at 7:15 when I walked outside. I asked if he could start early and he went right to work. About 90 minutes later, Luis installed two new openers, keypad, programmed 4 remotes and programed both of my cars! Sigh...I somehow backed into my garage door while it was half way up or coming back down - don't ask me how. I called Academy Door at 10am, they were here by 2:30pm. A courtesy call before they arrived at 2pm. Mario came with a mask on. He told me that it didn't need replacement. He said the joint was in good shape. He pushed it in from the outside. He lubed up the joints and rail (and did our other garage door as well). We installed these doors with them in 2006. Highly recommend. I recently had to deal with an issue where two different pieces of my original 4 year old garage door equipment had broken. After finding out from the company that manufactured the equipment - Overhead Door - that they would replace the two pieces for around $200 total - and I would only get a 30 day warranty on those two parts - I was livid. Two different friends recommended Academy Door & Control Corp. So I went out one Saturday to visit them - be aware, they close at 1:00 pm on Saturday. I arrived at 12:45 pm - so I got there just in time. They showed me the components they would use. These definitely appeared to be much more robust quality-wise than anything Overhead Door offered. They also took me in the back to their garage work area and demoed the belt drive motor - which was way quieter than my crappy, noisy chain-driven Overhead Door brand system. So I signed up for them to come out and replace everything - Garage door motor, drive system, keypad, interior switch, and remotes. They gave me a four hour window as to when they would arrive - and they arrived within the first two hours of that window. Linwood and his colleague - can't remember his name - went to work dismantling and removing the old system and then installing, configuring, and testing the new system - it took them about 45 minutes. I then came down, they showed me how it worked, had me program a new code into the keypad, showed me how the interior control system and remote worked, had me test it - and I was very pleased. So much quieter! The new system has a lifetime warranty on the motor and belt drive system - and a 5 year warranty on the keypad, interior control pad, and the remotes. $409.00 installed! We called for a garage for opener motor that was functional but very erratic. Jorge from Academy Door came out within 24 hours. He discussed the pluses and minuses of a motor repair and a motor replacement. As the motor was 23 years old we decided to install a new motor. Bottom line: make sure everything they tell you is in writing with extreme detail -- we thought the $130 fee being applied was standard (he didn't say it was an exception or anything of the sort). I'm so pleased with the service I just received from HARRY at Academy Door! One of the cables came off of the garage door they installed 13 months ago. When I called up, the receptionist reminded me that the warranty was only for a year and we were passed that point but they sent Harry out and he found out the torsion spring needed a half turn and then he reattached the cable & lubricated the door wheels and track. To go even further, he replaced the dead battery in the outside door remote pad and reset the door code. All of this 1 month after warranty! I have used Academy Door & Control for a number of years on my last two houses. They are always professional and courteous on the phone and when the techs arrive at my house. I have had an old garage door replaced and a coil replaced at one house, and then we moved and the second house had two garage doors, and I just wanted one big one. AD&C recommended someone to do the work to get rid of the two doors- needed to build a temporary wall, then remove the post in the middle of the two doors, then add a steel beam, then remove the temp wall. Then AD&C came and installed a brand new door, coil, and opener. 10 years later, the coil broke, so I called and was told someone could be there that day. My appointment was between 1-4pm and Robert showed up at 1 on the nose. He replaced the coil with a lifetime version ($100 more) and also took the time to adjust everything in the system and the door is now extremely quiet. Robert also programmed the opener that is built into my car, which I could not do for some reason, even though I tried several times. Robert seemed to know how to set the opener on every model of car because he said "that car has an opener built in, and that one doesn't", etc. So, in five minutes he had programmed mine and was probably at my house for less than an hour. It's rare to get top notch service from a company over so many years, every time I call. Every call I make is answered by someone who is nice, and professional. This morning when I was leaving the house for work, the garage door was closing and made a loud BOOM noise. I then tried to open/close it and noticed it wouldn't open or close. My wife and I frantically searched for an emergency garage door repair company to come fix our garage today. My wife decided to work from home. First I was looking at other garage door repairs in the area.. one of these other companies got recent bad reviews. I won't name the other company.. but it seems to be one of the popular ones in this area. Anyways, my wife called Academy's emergency service. A lady then told her that someone would be at our house between 10am and 2pm today (same day). My wife had to do something first thing in the morning and apparently someone from Academy came at 8:45am (but no one was home). My wife called them back to let them know that the window for the appointment was between 10am and 2pm (not 8:45am). They apologized for the mistake and confusion. Even though our appointment was at 10am, the guy (not sure of his name) arrived promptly at 10am. My wife said he was very nice and professional. Our spring/coil broke and he fixed the spring and tested everything. Our garage is not even quieter than before! In the end, the cost was only around $200. Which was great because it was an emergency call. We felt the price was VERY fair and reasonable. If we ever have any garage issues down the road, we will go with these folks again. It finally came time for us to replace two old wooden garage doors. First I did some research on garage doors in general. Lots of info on the Internet. Then I did extensive research on quality garage door contractors in my area. Used Yelp and other sources. Came up with a list of five quality candidates and sent details to each for bids. Eliminated 3 in relatively short order for various reasons. Came down to two candidates for the same two door options (either a Clopay or a CHI) -- Academy and another contractor. I focused on all decisioning points -- service, price, features, warranty, etc. Both were very close on price so that was not a discriminating factor. However, all the other factors came out very much in favor of Academy. Our sales contact, Dave McLaughlin was superb. Knowledgeable, responsive, helpful. The two managers at HQ -- John and Alan -- also very professional and responsive. So I did the order with Academy and selected the Clopay doors. Doors arrived in the time period they said. Scheduled the install. Jim and Coach (two HUGE guys!) showed up and did the install. They were even able to deal with the fact that my floor was off level just a shade. Made the doors fit well. One of my two garage doors freaked out two days ago. Opening/closing by itself about five times, and then it just froze half open. I manually disengaged it and closed it. Called Academy Door ASAP and left a message. They returned my call the next morning at 7:30am or so! I explained the situation to the awesome lady on the phone. And how I was a little freaked. She said sounded like the garage door openers needed to be wiped since someone else must be on our same signal. At about 1:15 PM that same day a very courteous technician was at my home. I even received a phone call prior giving an ETA. For a little over $130(?) (10% discount since we found them in our community newsletter) my two remotes were reprogramed where one remote can do both doors! Both garage door opener's wiped, new batteries in two remotes and he readjusted and lubricated everything because now there's no more SCREECHING! We also had him replace one of the rope thingys for manual operation, (i had pulled a little too aggressively the day before). Everything works beautifully! Our garage door spring snapped at about 6:30 on a week night. My husband's car was stuck in the garage with no way to get the door open. We called Academy and they sent out a technician, Big Jim, within two hours. He did a great job getting the door open so we could get the car out before even attempting to fix the problem. After a few hours, Big Jim had replaced all the springs and whatnot and it feels like we have a band new door. Big Jim was smart, friendly, and very professional; he was great to work with. My garage door needed fixing, so I Yelped for a reliable company. Seeing all the excellent ratings for Academy, I called them. When I told the lady who answered the phone my address, she actually pulled up the name of the previous owner and I realized they were the ones who installed the garage door originally! So I thought to myself, "They installed it and they have records of it. And they were going to send someone down the same morning. Great start!" I waited and waited... Someone arrived at 2.30pm. He took a look at the damage and said he will try to repair as much as possible so I could at least close the door. But he'll have to get his manager to call me about replacing the bottom panel. Meanwhile, the repair person advised that we should not use the door to prevent the cable from snapping. Well, at least I can close the door and feel safer at night. The $119 was still worth it and I was still very hopeful Then 2 weeks went by without any call back. I call them and they said they will have to check their stock and may have to order that panel. A year ago, I called another company when my wonderful old 1940s vintage "overhead door" started having problems closing -- banging and bucking and causing the electric door opener to reverse itself half way through the closing cycle. Those technicians shook their heads sadly and declared that no parts were available to fix an old door like mine. They made a case for my buying a "modern" aluminum door. I ended up lubricating the parts myself and got the door working for another year. This year I called Academy because of its good online reviews. The young woman who took my call was really impressive! She understood the issues, understood how these doors work, and knew the names of the parts and had all of the vocabulary to discuss the services that they provide. She assured me that their basic trip fee covered adjusting the door and its opener, and lubricating all of the moving parts, and that I would only have to pay more than the basic service fee if new parts had to be installed. I was given a date and an hour range for their visit. i was called when the technician was on his way to my house. The technician was very experienced and was able to reinstall the ball bearing rollers that I had kept after they had fallen off. He was able to "jury-rig" the old parts to keep the rollers in place. And he completely re-adjusted all moving parts and then lubricated all rollers, cables, hinges, etc. My ancient door now seems to work as well as when it was new. The tech advised me on lubricating and maintaining the door. All of this for their basic trip and maintenance fee! I couldn't be happier, and no one tried to sell me a new door that I didn't want. Had my spring (torsion) break on my 2 car garage door this morning. The garage door would not open since the spring helps pick the door up. My neighbor had to come down to help me open the door to get the car out. He had used Academy for something different and he recommended them to me. I call them at 8:15AM and the dispatcher said they can send someone out between 9-9:30AM. My wife just called me and they showed up at 9:15AM and fixed the spring and made everything real quite. The wrong door window panel was ordered and while it was offered to order the new door, I was brow beaten into accepting what was wrongly ordered with different window inserts. After many calls over many months to get a handle installed, I only got a call back 5 months later when they wanted final payment. It wasn't worth the slightly lower cost to go with this company. Glad to be done with them 9 months later. I do like the actual door that I ordered through them (minus the window situation). read more

I *love* it when people show up at the time they said they were going to show up! I called these guys yesterday to have them come out and fix my garage door opener (after another company failed to show up...grr). Academy said they could be here between 9 am and 1 pm and -- hey! cool! -- they guy was here at 9:15. He was courteous, wore a jacket with the company's name on it so he didn't look like some fly-by-night operator, and had a truck equipped with all the parts necessary to fix the door.
