As one of the largest employers on the Northshore and in Illinois in general, this place is always busy, especially on the weekend. The building is spacious and you have a wide variety on every appliance. I couldn't believe it, but I was the 479th person waiting in line to have ordered my dishwasher. Whew, that must be a really popular model. I guess it'll be installed in Sept. 2020? I don't exactly know but we'll follow-up next week. We got our washer, dryer and fridge from ABT and the delivery and installation were all very effortless. Please note: the delivery and installation folks are ABT employees, they don't outsource their work to contractors. Which means if something goes wrong, you don't have to call multiple parties, you just go to ABT. This is not the case if you go to Costco, albeit it's cheaper. Also, stop by the kitchen area, they always have free chocolate chip cookies for the shoppers and their little ones. What a treat!!! read more

I've had the pleasure of working with a few different sales people here but one stands above the rest - Matt Waller (847-544-2766) I do a ton of research on everything I buy. Like it's a really enjoyable part of the buying process for me - I look at consumer reports, browse several hundred reviews and make a short list of whatever I'm looking at. I then call Matt and he gives me his advice on what he likes and what he sees come into the repair shops more often than not - he's that perfect cherry on top to help me go one way or another. He's helped me buy a washer dryer, fridge, TV, and just today a new gas range. He always goes above and beyond to make sure I get what I need and in a price range that works. I had a horrible experience with their poor installation/service department a few years ago, but decided when I needed a new dishwasher to at least go, educate myself about the new machines, and maybe buy from them. Two months. First machine was a lemon. Second machine the delivery crew KNEW machine was damaged. Customer stated they did not want a damaged product and requested crew contact customer service. Crew REFUSED. Crew stated propping up a machine machine with wood was an acceptable delivery. They documented and took photos. Crew stated I was required to accept the delivery and sign it acceptable. I asked to speak to customer service. Response was, "There is no need. It is all documented." Today there was supposed to be a 2 man crew out to repair the machine. Customer service couldn't locate if the parts arrived. General Manager: We located the parts. The entire experience was not a good one. From incorrect scheduling of countertop measuring (they scheduled appliance measuring) to appliance installation (two of the four appliances could not be installed properly), several mistakes were made by Abt. This resulted in significant delays in moving forward with the project. And I was getting tired of cooking using only a toaster oven and microwave for meals for many weeks. There were shoulder-to-shoulder customers in the store when I shopped. It was hectic to say the least. I did get a cookie and a half glass of lemonade though. They are just too big to adequately service their customers. They should focus more on their products and don't worry about the Apple Store, candy store, watch store and other shops in their one huge store. Their prices weren't even all that great, which was disappointing. I ended up cancelling a 4-item appliance order and a countertop order and went to Grand Appliances where I got great customer service in the sales end, to quick delivery. Good prices included rebates which Abt never offered. This is the end of my Abt shopping experience. I won't be going back. read more

Avoid. Bad customer service. They cater all the reviews on their sites to only show five stars so you can't get a true picture of their actual abilities or service which is unethical in my opinion. Tell you how to get a review on their site so you know it's completely biased and catered. They don't handle pre-orders very well. I received my refrigerator today. The delivery was done by Gibron and Oliver. They arrived before the expected window time. They contacted me to make sure it was okay to deliver early, which I agreed to. They came in and did thorough measuring before unpacking the refrigerator from the truck. They were thorough and careful. They removed my old refrigerator and brought in my new one very slowly and carefully because the door fit was small but wide enough. They were friendly and informative, however continued working at a good pace to get the job done. Couldn't be happier with their service! They seem to a truly enjoy their job! I purchased $4500.00 worth of appliances from ABT. I discovered the day before when trying to remove my drop in oven that it was hard wired. I called and talked to a salesman and he reassured me that they would be able to put in the outlet that was needed, I also explained to him because the oven was a drop in oven that I had a base board that needed to be cut, will they be able to cut it or should I take care of it, he assured me again they have the equipment for that. They did not have either of those things, so the stove went back. When I was cleaning up after they installed the other appliances I noticed a dent on the brand new refrigerator. I spoke to my salesman (Eric) and sent him pictures. He got back to me weeks later and offered $50 for the damage. I felt that was unacceptable. This is a brand new refrigerator that I paid to have installed and they offered $50. I have bought all of my appliances from ABT and this experience was awful. I had to have them come back to install the stove, the installer was in fact able to hard wire the stove with no problem. I removed the base board. A lot of run around because of poor communication with all salesmen involved. On top of it, I NEVER heard back from my salesman (Eric). Who knew they also sold and installed furnaces and central air conditioning? I didn't until a business associate told me. We bought both. What a great experience! Rob came out to assess our system. He was very meticulous measuring all the components and calculating our needs. The price was very competitive. They only use the best rated Trane systems. The installers called about an hour prior to arrival and were early. Igor and Umberto were very efficient and kept us up to date on their progress. Worst delivery experience ever! We recently purchased a deep freezer for our basement. When the delivery crew came they backed into a tree on our parkway. They also left debris on our sidewalk from the packaging and left stains on our carpet runner from the freezer. When I reached out to customer service to see what options we had to get the stains out of the carpet runner, I got the run around. Regarding the damaged tree - they basically told me that our tree didn't meet the city clearance guidelines and that is the reason they hit the tree. The real story is that they were reversing on the wrong side of the street and didn't see it, but ok! The tree damage could have been easily avoided - but the blame is being put on us, which is laughable!! We purchased a new refrigerator and microwave from ABT not too long ago. My husband and I abhor shopping but I have to say our experience at ABT was very pleasant. Our salesperson, Sebastian Pena, was a delight. He answered all our many, many questions and showed us many, many refrigerators and microwaves. After a lot of looking, talking and researching we finally settled on what we wanted. Our appliances were delivered within a week. Now the great service did not end with Sebastian. He said he would send out his best delivery guys and he sure did. Brian and Santino were personable and well versed in how to please the customer and flawlessly installed our appliances. I have used Abt before and had zero issues. But this time was different. And I will not use them again. They were unprofessional and apathetic. They called me in a "morning window" to give me an "afternoon window" of when they would show up. Lots of windows to sort through. But we got it. Everything seemed fine. The technician was very specific: "I will be there between 12-2pm." Fine. ... Day goes by ... and when it got to be be 2 pm ... 2:30pm ... 2:40 pm ... without anyone showing up, OR (and this is what angers me) ... ZERO text or phone call to let me know he was running behind, or frankly, even remembered my job to do ... I had to call Abt to see what was up. And that's the part of the story that is the most frustrating to me. NOT the running behind, (I get that some jobs take longer and the "window we give you is just an estimate" )... so don't even try to respond with that nonsense to this review, you people at Abt ... (But seriously, isn't that REALLY the whole point of giving customers a "window of time?") I digress ... ...The aspect of this story that really bothers me is the fact that I had to be the one to call Abt, to figure out what was going on. THEY never contacted ME. It would have been 3 pm (an hour outside the window) and I wouldn't have heard anything. And on top of that ... they provided NO sincere apologies for having to wait all day. Or remorse for their lack of communication. A simple "our tech should have contacted you to let you know he was running behind" or "someone in our office should have contacted you to let you know the schedule was pushed back" would have been frustrating, but I would have understood more. The tech said he would come at 4 pm. Again, he gave NO apologies for running behind, and NO apologies for NOT contacting me with a heads up of what was going on during his jobs/day. (Abt had to call HIM, so he could call ME) Because of my waiting, I had to cancel meetings and some work obligations, because of Abt. I asked a woman at Abt if they could waive, or somehow adjust the $80-something service charge they require for a tech just showing up ... due to my inconvenience. After many lines of "our jobs take longer than we sometimes can anticipate" ... and "that window is just an estimate" ... she said "IF your job requires an additional part, we can take 20% off that." So ... let me get this straight, IFFFFF, I have to buy something from you (which isn't even guaranteed) ... I get a 20% off whatever I have to buy? ... WOW! WHAT A BONUS! ... but also, let me get this straight ... I get NOTHING REDUCED from the REQUIRED service charge ... of a visit that is providing me NO SERVICE, unless you count making me wait all day, lose work obligations, and have to deal with zero remorse about your zero communication? Nah ... thanks but no thanks, Abt. I'll take my business elsewhere. And it all could have been solved by an apology, or ... (gasp) ... a phone call to let me know, "We know you've waited all day for our tech, I am so sorry, he is running behind, won't hit that window WE gave you... would you still be available later in the day, or like to reschedule?" ... Do better with your customer service please, Abt. And understanding where your customers are frustrated. Listen. Adjust. I scheduled a different company. And will do so from here on out. read more

I was out shopping for a new stove/oven. ABT was my last store. ABT is an EXPERIENCE. Someone greets you at the door. Once inside someone walks you where you need to be. Options are endless and I was pleasantly surprised by the wide range of price points available. Lots of associates walking the floor to answer any questions. In the very back of the store there is a mall type area with additional stores selling everything from candy to billiard tables. Beautiful fountain with colored lights in the middle (which held my son's attention for quite a while). The rep who assisted me was Joey; he was thorough, patient, and efficient. Great prices and service, plus they recycle! We had to buy a new home theater system, for which we got fantastic service through Abt. Our old speakers weren't compatible with newer systems, so we took them plus some cardboard boxes and styrofoam inserts to Abt. They have a truck near the pickup area and they helped us put it all in. They showed up without the proper paperwork and then pulled the job while the electrician was in my apartment! Put a refrigerator on hold (split order) until our floors were done and when I called to schedule a delivery, they gave away my refrigerator and told me they were out of stock and wouldn't be available for a month! This review was hard for me should be a three star, but I moved it up to a four-star because of certain management that I have dealt with. At the end of this review, you will know about a special manager please read to the end about MARK... This company is very large if you drive on the highway, you will see many garages with hundreds of work trucks. They will always have something for you. They will always be able to come out to you. They are local, and this is enough for them to stay as big as they are. This is all good, but as many companies that grow big mistakes happen issues occur promises fail, because there is so many workers involved. This last month I needed two appliances to be repaired refrigerator and dishwasher. It did not take them one visit it took them four(4) visits with several different repairmen. From regular repairman to senior repairmen still had issues . One senior repair man fixed the washer, but forgot to put on one vital part this part was taken out of the house. Don't know if it got thrown out or if it's still in the work van. Or it just was lost but it needed to go onto the dishwasher for the soap dish to close. Now this can happen one little part could be pushed aside. Now on the same day remember, this is a senior technician ready for anything but unfortunately, as always, the representative on the phone promised me that they would have all parts in the truck. Well, there was a different part missing so this man had to wait a few hours in his van, while another vehicle showed up with the second part. Now for the missing part when he left that day, we had to wait a few weeks for them to order it and receive it back in and make third to fourth appointment . The third visit, the gentleman was wonderful brought everything, but the refrigerator part was damaged. We took pictures both of us. He opened the sealed box and showed me that it was smashed from the factory Not acceptable. From the first technician showing up, not seeming like a technician, because of his knowledge, stating that the equipment was not broken and telling us different ways to use it instead of being able to use all the ways. He seemed more like the perfect salesman I would like to see him in sales he would definitely make you money. He was great with my mom great with the dog, but from his knowledge of saying that I just watched it was running perfectly, and that there were certain buttons we couldn't use. This did not make sense because you pay for everything but you will not be able to use everything. From the second technician that showed up this was a senior technician. His issue was not having all the parts on the vehicle. Also taking one part with him from our old unit that should've been put back in the unit. He was very knowledgeable as well, and very kind to my mother . The third technician was there to work on both units. This is where the refrigerator came in to affect. He was the one that noticed that one part was missing from the dishwasher and showed me that the refrigerator part that came in was broken. He definitely was an A+ repair man. 4th visit finally done. Both machines working again. I spoke with manager Kendra (service manager. She offered $75 gift card due to me, explaining the loss of wages, and time that has occurred under these circumstances. I also asked her to please not charge for the small shelf that I was receiving at the time of the third service. MARK MROZ !!! The last is the best please I know this is a long review, but I need anyone from Corporate to know about this next manager. Mark Mroz service manager kept a great contact with me by phone and several emails This man, by the name of Mark has saved the company money, because I was very upset because of all the visits and circumstances I was looking to deal with Corporate in another way. Mark kept me calm, looked over the situation and did his best to make sure that anyone involved understands what is happening and to move things forward as quickly as possible to reschedule to make sure the right technician is there to make sure the vehicle has the parts it is impossible for him to do all. This was such a large company and multiple parties involved, but he did his best , I believe this I do not blame him. I blame the company you must teach and make sure to go over the teachings each year to have people ready for what their job is detailed. Detail of a job if you are in service, make sure that all parts are ready for the day of service. Make sure they are on the truck. They are check marked that they have gone into the vehicle. Make sure that the clients are contacted that they know if one service technician is coming or two or three of that day. MARK also RAISED THE $75 gift card to $100. We had a washer and dryer delivered and the laundry is on the 2nd floor located in a very tight mechanical room, they were very skilled in removing the old appliances and installing the new given the challenging room and access. The crew even removed the fire-rated door and reinstalled it which were were unable to remove for access into the room. The crew cleaned up and removed all evidence that they were even onsite!
