Home Depot sent me this contractor. I simply asked for remodeling of the relatively small bathrooms in my single family home ( Chicago condominium). They responded with a whopping original estimate of $36,112.55!!! Which included electrical work I did not need or request. I don't want anyone doing work in my home that I cannot trust. Home Depot remodeled my kitchen and did my flooring. The contractors did great work and provided me with reasonable original estimates. I am a bit surprised and disappointed that Home Depot is working with a contractor with so many terrible yelp reviews. read more

Terrible customer service. The actual man who did my install was very friendly. However, every time I called about my project...all I got was confusion and rudeness on the other end.They called me several times after my install to see if I was satisfied. When I stated that the job wasn't completed and no one got back to me about it, all he said was to make sure I told Home Depot they did a great job. I haven't heard back about coming back to finish - I was promised a phone call the next day and that was 2 weeks ago. I am surprised that Home Depot outsources to this company. read more

In Chicago for Kitchen and Bathroom remodeling from Home Depot, this is who they will refer you to. Instead of writing a long review, I will simply echo everything P.S said in his / her review on 06/29/2011. I made the same request for an estimate and was given a spreadsheet that was mostly empty of dollar amounts accept for a few line items and the grand total of over $19K for a small bathroom remodel; even though I was given ranges by two different people with this company that the bid would likely between $12K and $15K. I really don't know why Home Depot works with this company and I really don't understand how anyone would sign up to do business with them when they are so vague about pricing. I also had got another bid prior to theirs by a very professional, although expensive company, and they provided all the details one would need to make an educated decision. BTW, when I called to speak someone about this, they said they would look into the estimate and get back to me ... that was four days ago and I am not holding my breath! Involved with a total kitchen remodel thru Home Depot with things going good until the plumbing portion, going ok, until the next day when the dish washer company couldn't install it because there was no hot water shut off. Called absolute, and they said that wasn't part of their contract with Home Depot to install shut offs, however they could send a plumber out to do it for $175. What ticks me off is that the dishwasher was sitting right there, and the plumber made no mention that a shut off was needed. he could have called it in and got it approved for x amount of extra $$$ for much less $$$. Home depot did their best to resolve it with no luck from Absolute, so they split the cost with me.I think Home Depot should change plbg. companys as I see I'm not the only one with terrible reviews. read more

I recently had my kitchen remodel by Absolute. However two weeks after my dishwasher was installed by their plumbing company I had a small issue with the water not draining completely. Nothing really big. I called Bryd Plumbing they were fine with setting something up but I needed to contact Absolute. So I called and spoke with Eric on the matter. He informed me I needed to call the appliance people but I did already and they didn't handled anything dealing with plumbing hoses or drainage. Eric quickly responded he didn't want to pay $150 for a plumber service. However I never asked him to pay. He was very dismissive. I instructed him that we had payed for a service and it hasn't been 30 days since the plumber been out. Eric was not helpful but seemed bothered. Never even asked or explained that I may have to pay for the plumber to come back out. (Which I had no problem but he didn't even ask) I have paid almost $25,000 getting my kitchen remodeled and to be dismissed as if I can't get a follow up visit on a concerning matter is unprofessional. I have no problem paying for a service fee but instead of asking he was rude and dismissive. When trying to explain exactly needed to be changed with the drainage hose he felt the need to debate. I don't ever recommend working with someone who is too bothered to work hand in hand with a paying customer. read more

They came out to follow up on replacement of some cabinet doors for Home Depot (QC issues) and when the doors arrived they came out within a few days to install. The attitude, knowledge and workmanship of their installer (Helmut) was superb. We are extremely pleased with the fixes done. read more

They are not worth the high price they charge for a kitchen remodel. They had they're cabinet installers do the initial plumbing work and it failed the city plumbing inspection. So a day wasted, and I had to take another day off of work to have the certified plumber finish the job. They called me at 7:30 in the morning to tell me that the electricians were on there way. What!! You couldn't tell me this the day before. They never called me during the remodel to apologize for the above issues. Nor did they ever call after the job was completed as a follow up. Maybe a Thank You for the business would've also been nice!! I would never hire them again or recommend them. read more

Totally disappointed. Got this company through home renovations with Home Depot and paid top dollars asked/quoted for kitchen remodel, cabinet installation, painting and carpentry work. Charged 1800.00 to paint small kitchen/dining area and did a horrible job of that. Had to have it touched up to try to fix, never sanded or smooth surfaces just paint, bad strokes work. Carpentry work was poorly done had to have the come back in because simple baseboards were misaligned, countertop painting and prep left holes at end of section and they failed to plaster and sand. Had to have them redo that too after having angry discussions with project manager was a jerk. Damaged cabinets during installation and had to be replaced. Want to stress my insurance company paid top dollar so I assumed the level of work was going to be top notch but very very unsatisfactory. Don't use these guys wouldn't ever recommend them. I would leave them to do the work and when I'd get back in the room poor workmanship was done. If you use them stay in the room and watch every move. That will nickel and dime every thing when fixing their screw ups. Spend your money elsewhere!. Very frustrated and disappointed. read more

The bottom line on Absolute Construction... Absolute Construction, the authorized Home Depot service provider for bathroom remodeling, attempted to charge me for some materials at a price 30-40% higher than the items' price at Home Depot. When I discovered this and asked for additional details about their proposed budget, they refused to do further business with me. Unless you are indifferent to the cost of your bathroom remodeling project, I recommend you go with another company. Remodeling a bathroom is something you do maybe once or twice in a lifetime. Are you really ready to hand over a five-figure check to a company that refuses to be upfront about costs? My experience with Absolute Construction.... Based on a recommendation from our local Home Depot, I contacted Absolute Construction to remodel our bathroom. I met with a design consultant for two hours during which time we discussed design ideas and selected materials. Toward the end of the meeting the representative suddenly became irritable and then abruptly left. (I later discovered that he was working on his scheduled day off, which may have explained it). A couple days later he sent an email, without a message, with the budget included as an attachment. The "budget" consisted of a vague list of tasks (e.g. permit, demo, haul) and a final estimate in the 16K range. Neither the labor nor the materials were itemized; there was no mention of the various preferences we had indicated for specific items (e.g. floor and wall tile, vanity, etc). I had absolutely no idea how he reached his final cost. I complained to the office about the lack of detail and to their credit they quickly apologized and sent another representative. The second representative was knowledgeable, professional, and courteous. It appeared he had not been given the first representative's notes because during initial two-hour meeting we once again discussed the same design ideas. This was followed by a second four-hour meeting during which we selected specific materials. We chose all materials from a catalogue the sales representative brought with him. At the end of this meeting the representative asked that I sign the contract, which I did. This was a mistake as I should have taken a few days to examine the budget more closely. After the representative left, I realized that he did not leave me with a copy of the budget he had scribbled down on a notepad. The following day I called and asked to be sent an itemized budget for all materials. The representative did not provide a full budget, but over the phone agreed to provide the cost of roughly 8-10 items that we had agreed to purchase (e.g. toilet, floor tile, sink and shower fixtures). I compared the cost of these items with their cost at Home Depot and found that the price of the materials in our contract was 30-40% higher than the price for the exact same item at Home Depot. Needless to say, when an authorized Home Depot service provider overcharges you for items available at Home Depot it is both aggravating and cause for concern. If they charge 30 percent more for the toilet, are they also charging 30 percent more for the toilet's installation? I contacted Absolute to explain my concern and cancel the contract. (We signed the contract on a Thursday evening and only had until Saturday to cancel without penalty). Via both email and voice mail, I indicated that I was potentially still willing to work with Absolute, but had some concerns about the costs based on what I had discovered at Home Depot. I requested an itemized budget for both labor and materials. I received no response. A couple days later I followed up with a call to the sales representative who indicated that he would send me the itemized budget. The following day I received a note from Absolute Construction that stated that "we will not be doing business together". The recurring theme in my dealings with Absolute Construction is an unwillingness to be transparent and candid about costs. Absolute Construction will gladly give you a final cost estimate and is quick to tell you how it is dedicated to customer satisfaction, but despite repeated requests I never received an itemized budget. read more

The first review pretty much hits the nail the head. Had a design consultation with Home Depot and this is the contractor they always used, so we think "oooh piece of cake, done." We were told by Home Depot how they're licensed, know Chicago high rises well and will give an itemized list of all items and costs. Spoke to Absolute on the phone the day after and they were very nice and scheduling something was easy. I was feeling really good about using them. Well not so much after our meeting today...at least with the bathroom guy. Two men came into our apartment, one for the kitchen and one for the bathroom remodel. The kitchen guy was fine, took measurements, and is going to send them off to Home Depot so we can pick out cabinets, countertops, etc. We most likely still use them for the kitchen job. The second guy was late which is understandable due to the NATO summit. Fine, no biggie. Takes bathroom measurements, fine. Gives us a catalog to look through to look at vanities. Okay also fine. Then he starts telling us we should change the valves in our showers and faucets just so we don't have to breakthrough the wall in case something goes wrong with them later. Sounds reasonable, but how much? Did not want to quote us any prices at all. Was like pulling teeth. We'd like to know how much things are before we okay them, is that okay with you? He then says you can spend 5k on bathroom to 55k. Well guess what, I don't want to pay 55k for something that has a square footage of 30 feet. I explain that we probably will only be living in this condo for a few years and want to do something nice, but reasonable and don't want to invest tons if it's not a forever home. We basically just need to retile the bathroom floors, tile the shower and get a new vanity and countertop. No plumbing is being moved or nor is the tub or toilet being replaced. I told him we wanted a travertine "look" and that it didn't have to be real stone. We wanted to know a little bit about the differences/qualities between ceramic, porcelain, and stone and he said the more expensive, the better. Well gee thanks, that helps a lot. Then he spends ten minutes on excel, calculating an estimate. For both bathrooms, it was like 12,500 for labor only. Seemed a little high but who knows, maybe it's okay...so we ask to look at his itemized list of expenses. He got very defensive and didn't want to show us and scoffed and asked if it was too high. Not necessarily, but we want to make smart decisions and see where our money would be spent. After explaining this multiple times, he was still rude and did not want to show us. Claims how nobody asks this and these are the costs and he would not spend two hours going over this with us. We said he did not have to go over with us, he could just email us the spreadsheet. He then tells us how this is a special program and he can't email it and it would take him all day to type this up in Word. Um...no.. it's excel. After some more teeth pulling, he finally at least let us look at the sheet and let us take some notes (still making comments that basically if we took notes, we were horrible people) To move the toilet to tile and reinstall it was 550 dollars, which seemed crazy to me. He also told me that freestanding cabinetry in the bathroom is fine, and that I would just have to swiffer under it and that I knew how to do it. Wonder how he treats his wife? But man, if you enjoy a first consultation where someone gets angry with you for wanting to see where your money is being spent or not having a budget of infinity, this might be your contractor! read more

I went through Home Depot to use Absolute construction. I would never ever recommend them to my worst enemy. It is not that they do bad work because they do good work. and thus the reason for a 1 star. Dealing with their project managers (Steve) was a joke. They would never call back when decisions had to be made. I waited all day the first day for the inspectors to show up. I called the shop a number of times to find out what was going on. Steve kept saying he would call me back. It was at the end of the day I called again only to find out he had gone home for the day. I knew then what kind of customer service they had. I hired them to install all the flooring and replace the trim. At first they were going to use primed trim I said I wanted prefininshed because I did not want to paint anything they said ok. The installer came out to install the trim he finished I asked him about filling in the holes he said he was not supposed to do that. I called the office talked to a Tom because Steve was gone. Tom asked in the office they said that they were supposed to do it. I called again only to be informed that I had not hired them to do that job I would have to hire a painter. I told him bull that I had hired them to do the whole job. Still waiting for callbacks. I would strongly not recommend them to anyone. I used Lowes on a Different Project They used a local contractor That worked out good. I would recommend using Lowes rather then Home Depot read more

If I could give 0 stars I would. Terrible terrible! Ordered new cabinets and counter from Home Depot and just needed Absolute for the install. The kitchen, in a rental property, consisted of one wall of cabinets 100 inches long. I was quoted $3000 just to install appliances and $500 to install a sink. All in all the final quote was $7,000. I laughed and told Absolute to take a hike. Got someone with 5 stars on Yelp (much better than Absolute's reviews and for obvious good reason) to do the whole kitchen for $1,750. read more

I worked with Home Depot and Absolute Construction to remodel my kitchen and bath rooms. Absolute Construction was superb. Construction, plumber, electrician, and office workers were on time, did excellent work, and helped me work through any issue created by Home Depot's lack of coordination and organization. Absolute managed the project (even though it was Home Depot's responsibility). They made sure I had all the sink fixtures (even though Home Depot didn't order timely). They made sure I had the right tile (even though Home Depot decided to substitute other tile and not send what I had ordered). The installers were extremely careful and helpful. The plumber and electricians did anything they were asked to do. All only wanted the best for the project and my home. And, they finished on budget and on time. I even made some annoying last minute color changes, and Mitch worked to make sure it was all communicated to everyone who needed to know. I had to have my kitchen remodeled after I vacated my home. My brother dealt with Absolute. Every day they found another reason to charge me several hundred dollars more than the initial project estimate. It always had to be done for some reason or another, and they always said they couldn't have foreseen the expenditure when they drafted the initial estimate. They should have stuck to the initial project estimate and taken any additional unforeseen charges themselves. I feel they took advantage of the situation. read more

Was put in touch with this company through Home Depot, beware if they spent half the time resolving their shoddy work that they did attempting to solicit positive reviews, they might be better. Stay away from this company and Home Depot installation, total ripoff! Originally contracted to install cabinets and a counter top, they quoted an additional $350 to install and cut hole for a sink, now if I wanted the sink actually installed that would be an additional $450, (all the plumbing and drain lines already existed from previous sink, they just needed to reconnect them and set the sink in the counter top) what a joke! I actually had them complete the counter top install, but the installer did a poor job of cutting the counter he left a huge gap between the wall and counter. I ended up contracting the sink install with a local plumber which only took 30 minutes and was charged a much more reasonable price of $120. Beware of Home Depot installation services, shoddy work, expensive and no follow through by either the store or contractor if there is an issue. You can bet they will be calling you asking you to give them high marks on the Home Depot survey though. read more

This is the most unprofessional company, started work on my kitchen in September '15 project to be completed by the 19th of October, we are still wait for the completion of my kitchen as of 6/1/2016.......the work is VERY amateur.....they cut into my floors and placed new flooring down that is uneven, and is no longer sealed, when confronted with problems on the job, they would reply " well that's the best we can do" well I guess your best isn't good enough. We experienced 3different occasions of no calls/no shows..... Not one single person communicated with the other contractors....very unprofessional!!! When they FAILED inspection...I didn't hear from them for 3 months!!!!! They sent out someone to put silicon over a golf ball size hole where my over the sink light is, when the inspector said they needed to put up new dry wall and fix it correctly, and it looked like half ass work.....well silicone it is.....lets see if we pass now....THE WORST COMPANY EVER!!!!!!!!!!! In July 2015, I signed a contract with Home Depot for a bathroom remodel. The job was to convert a Jack and Jill bathroom and adjoining closet into 2 full bathrooms at a cost of $41,000, with 2 years free financing. Home Depot contracted the work to Absolute Construction. I know I could have gotten the job done cheaper but I thought by going with Home Depot, I would get good service and a great bathroom remodel. In November 2015, Absolute Construction began the work. The work that was suppose to take approximately 2 weeks but has still not been completed. I have not had the full use of 2 completed bathrooms or even one totally completed bathroom since the work started almost a year ago. Absolute Construction did shoddy, unprofessional work and had to continue to return to do or redo several things, such as caulking, painting, electrical work, cabinet replacement, cabinet door replacement, fixtures, tile replacement, grout replacement and much more. Each time the workers came to fix a previous problem, they messed up something else, such as wall damage, spilled paint on the floor and front sidewalk, scratches on the cabinets or fixtures. This has continued for almost a year. Every time the workers come to fix something, they mess up something else and/or do not address the original problem. I suspected that the Absolute installers were bringing in workers who were not Absolute employees because of the shoddy, unprofessional work and because they brought in the workers after I left. I inquired about this to Absolute several times but they never responded. Eventually I set up a video to prove my suspicion. After showing the video to Home Depot/Absolute Construction management earlier this month, they admitted that one of the workers was not an Absolute Construction employee. Several other people, who I do not have on video were not identified when I inquired who they were. One day I came home unexpectedly and an unidentified man was in my home working. The installer, who I let into my house in the morning and then I left for a few hours, was not in my home with the stranger and did not return that day. Around July 2016, I contacted Home Depot with my concerns hoping they would intervene on my behalf. I have been working with Home Depot since then but they have not been very helpful. The work still has not been completed. I'm still trying to get Home Depot to: Complete the work correctly, to my satisfaction, addressing all of the issues within the next few weeks. Reset the financing so that the 2 year free financing starts when the jobs is complete as opposed July 2015 (I have been paying since July 2015). Reduce the payment to reflect the time, aggravation, breach of advertised product and services (estimate given for work was 2 weeks; promised licensed insured installers who have gone through background checks, 2 years free financing). In addition I want other consumers to be aware of the unscrupulous business practice of Home Depot/Absolute Construction: Expose the practice of turning a blind eye to installers bringing in other workers who are not employees of Absolute. Expose the shoddy work being done at high costs. I accepted the high costs believing that Home Depot would provide me with a high-level of trust, integrity, service and product. read more

We finally decided to remodel our bathroom after waiting far too long. We had no idea how to even begin to find a company we could trust to do the project. We were at Home Depot and learned that Home Depot offered complete bathroom remodeling = Awesome! (Absolute is the company that they contract for bathroom remodels). My husband gave me full control on the entire decision making process which was a dream!! I really wanted to keep the feel of our home's early 50's charm. I was pleasantly surprised how Ted with Absolute understood exactly what I wanted to achieve. He helped me design the perfect look I was going for and had some samples with him to show me how everything coordinated. BTW - Houzz.com is a great resource for bathroom design ideas (or any other room that you are remodeling). I am very particular about the cleanliness of my home and during the renovation process the installation team took great care to ensure my house was kept clean. Everything was done as promised and that is really all that you can ask for. I will be returning to Home Depot for my Kitchen remodel when we are ready to tackle that project. Remodeling is expensive and a daunting process. We had very specific things that we wanted done with our remodel-and Home Depot assured us that Absolute Construction could get us there. It was a nightmare. It took months for them to start the project. It was expensive, but we chose them because we had the reassurance of the Home Depot in case there were issues. The person who designed the remodel had no design background. The project manager was never around and got very defensive when questioned about additional costs- which happened every other day- not hundreds of $$ but thousands. We grew more and more frustrated. We felt completely taken advantage of. The areas where we needed the extra work and the sole reason we went with the higher bid- never happened. NEVER. HAPPENED. But no mention was made of redoing the contract-we had to fight tooth and nail. We paid for XYZ and we wanted XYZ. They acted brand new. I'm writing this post five years later, but I am compelled to do so because I really felt I was taken advantage of by them since I was a young, single female homeowner. I feel I was overcharged for nothing. They wanted 10k on a bathroom remodel that they weren't demo'ing anything (the bid said they were putting a bath fitter over the existing tub). In the kitchen of the foreclosed home I bought, they installed brand new cabinets over a wall that wasn't painted or primed and actually had a dead roach stuck to the wall. Do you think they were courteous enough to give me a complimentary removal of the dead roach? No. I ended up requesting them to not do anything but what I had to do to bring the home up to code to close because I got a 203k loan. I feel they do nice work on their website, but they ABSOLUTELY took advantage of me. That experience as a first-time home buyer at the age of 24 was supposed to be a joyous one, but they forever ruined it. read more

Absolute Consturction was an Absolute DISASTER!! What was to take 5 days to remodel my bathroom took nearly 5 months. I found out later that the costs of the materials were highly inflated copared to Home Depot prices. The representative that came out to inspect the bathromm and work up the quote did not know the difference between a drywall or cement surface behind the old tiles although he bragged about how many bathrooms they had remodeled in my condo building. When the work started, the workmen were not proffesionals in their craft, more like odd job men called in to fill the need. They showed up when it was convenient for Absolute - obviously bigger jobs took priority! The company out and out lied when they installed my bath bench - more like a shampoo bottle shelf. They informed me that that was the largest that was allowed due to the city ordinance, and at that point I suggested they look on the website ADAbathrooms.com. Changes had to be made to accommodate this which resulted in an expensive fiberglass shower floor had to be smashed and ripped up and tiles purchased. Other jobs that were included on the contract and not performe were not refunded adn the reason why was explained as the other jobs had cost them more - was that my fault? I spent several months calling them to get workmen scheduled to come out to do the finishing touches. Extremely frustrating! Rather than recommend Absolute Construction I would advise my friends and other condo owners to stay away from Home Depot and Absoulte Construction. read more
