This review is about the truly awesome people who work there . Last Sunday 8/3/25 my boyfriend and I stopped in for hot crabs and cold beers after a long day on the beach . Crabs were fantastic, our waitress, Linda was very nice ,and after dinner we decided to take a walk around the back and check out the boats and the water. While stealing a hug the lanyard holding my car keys somehow snapped off and like in s l o w motion we saw them drop into the dark, muddy water . JFC Fortunately two of the girls working there got Colin to come out and use a net to try to scoop them up . After several failed attempts to find them we figured they had sunk in the mud and most likely wouldn't work even if we found them . We thanked Colin , gave him a tip for his help, and proceeded to TRY to get an Uber back to Bowie . We must have waited for 10-15 minutes hoping we could find a ride but to no avail- now what ? Low and behold big, beautiful Colin comes walking out front dangling my keys !!!!! We didn't realize he'd been back at it all this time trying to help us !!! Next thing .... hit the button and the key fob worked !!!!! Unbelievable considering they were submerged in the muck . Colin went way out of his way to help us and we couldn't be more appreciative. The food is excellent quality, good customer service and nice views of the water. I rate them only average because you can't use a charge card. Well, you can use a charge card if you are ok with additional charges being added at a later date for hotels, video games, high end clothing. That happened 3 times to my family. I'm giving this place 3 stars because the food and crabs were good... Our waitress was really nice but the manager was just a complete nightmare. We sat outside and she harrassed an older couple sitting next to us so much so that I spoke up to her about it. It was near closing but we received service as if it was regular hours. The food was good. The young man was very polite and accommodating even though he was serving our table and the bar area. He didn't rush us to finish but kept checking to see if we needed anything. The place was spacious with only my friend and I seated at a table in the restaurant side while others were at the bar area. I guess the doors were open earlier in the day because it seemed to have some flies which was annoying. I would recommend this restaurant. Most tables ordered the steamed crabs, but we didn't feel like working so hard, so we ordered the softshells. They were a good size and quite good. The sides we chose were potato salad and cole slaw. We knew what we were in for when we walked into the place at lunch time on a Friday and there was just one big table of gray-hairs finishing up. But, we didn't know the area, so we decided to stay. We started with a crab pretzel - great idea in concept, terrible in execution. The obviously once-frozen pretzel was tough and chewy, with I guess what was supposed to be crab dip on top, but was really just a cold, gloopy mess. The meal was slightly better - I had a crab cake sandwich served with fries. The crab cake was not very crabby, but still decent, and the fries were good. The server was slow but got the job done. The manager was rude and very nasty. Her attitude was very very rude. I ordered crab legs and 1 cluster was missing legs. I ask about getting a redo and they refused. I asked to speak with the manager and she came over like she was prepared to fight. I showed her the cluster and she said "I WILL NO REDO THE CRAB...I CAN CUT IT IN HALF!" I said ok, cut it in have. Then the manager said "THEN GIVE ME THE CRAB." So I gave her the cluster, and she stormed away and threw the crab in the trash. I came to Abner's this evening thinking that I would enjoy some of the delicious crabs and was treated with disrespect and discrimination. I have been a customer for over a decade, driving an hour to and fro and I have never been treated like I was today. To make matters worse, I was told that the individual is the daughter in law of the owner. This lady spoke to me and my family as if we were trash. I typically come here when I want a low key bar vibe. They have some decent options on tap. I've even had decent fried oysters here. Also, their steamed shrimp are amazing. Lastly, the cream of crab soup was decent, I'd just ask for a bit of old bay seasoning on the side to a bit. Bartenders are all friendly and on point with service. read more

We visited Abners twice while vacationing Chesapeake Beach. The place would remind you of a cafeteria, not much ambiance. So you go here for the seafood, which very fresh. The portions are pretty large, the sweetened ice tea is great! We got an Ultimate Pot, which was yummy! Half dozen crabs, soft shell crabs, stuffed flounder, and snow crab meal. Bonnie, our first waitress, was so sweet! And Isa (or Lisa), our 2nd waitress, was very nice. All kind, thorough, and good check up timing. However, I want to mention, both times we went we saw and heard a woman, who appeared to be the Manager. Which was confirmed by a staff member. While she BARKED at every single employee, In front of customers - She Never asked any patron, how was their meal. How is that? She was overly concerned with what each person was doing, she was loud, sounded harsh, and was in the middle of the restaurant!! I have been coming to this crab house for ten years. Although​ I can alter this review based on my overall experiences over the years, I am just going to be fair​ and write this review based on my most recent experience​. ​​ ----- For starters,​ this is the go-to spot for crabs and slot machines in the Chesapeake Beach area. This place has undergone some reno, and they have expanded the bar and slot areas. They have also "expanded" the parking lot which I​ think still does not work considering the amount of traffic this place draws on a good day. The staff is hit or miss, however,​ there are some long-term employees. ----Bonnie is my go-to server. She has been there for years and knows the menu exceptionally​ well. She is always honest especially when it comes to crabs and the sizes (especially during the beginning and end of crab season). Drinks, the drinks are always pleasant, and the bartenders can be heavyhanded (in the right way). They always keep you coming back. The remodeled the bar area into a "ship," I HATE it! I know I said I was going to be fair, however, the last time I sat at the bar I saw a roach. So please avoid that area if possible. Slots, the slots are the money maker for this place. There are good days and bad days (more bad than good). However, family members and I have won a generous amount of money over the years. Don't forget to add your info to the distribution list for updates on events and free slot plays. --- Ok, so my actual ratings: my mom and I visited on Easter Sunday. We ordered a dozen of mixed male blue crabs (they were meaty to my surprise). Our waitress was great as she has been employed there for six-plus years. Wayson Corner Location only: Abner's has some really really good crabs! I find their crabs to be good, flavorful, and tasty! This is a hole in the wall grab & go rancher type spot. My biggest concern here is they really need a better system for customers purchasing crabs. I went at noon and was advised crabs wouldn't be available until 3:30 pm ok great no problem. I returned at 3:00 pm and got in line (1st person) people begin getting in life after me. Next thing I know it was a long line of people waiting. One of the guys who work here came out disregarded me (1st person) and started passing out tickets to the customer faces he personally remembered from earlier. So this led to confusion and words be exchanged amongst myself and another customer in which we did reach a agreement Abner's need a better system to avoid this type of confusion. Mind you while in line I witnessed 2 arguments amongst other customers. I like it here at this little spot and will return however my friend stated he is never returning! For 4 generations we have come to Abner's for there good food and great Customer service. I must say we have always requested Bonnie for her outstanding service!!! We travel 2 hours back and forth, but today we request to sit by the window with only 4 tables with customers Jamie loudly said NO They will sit where I say! I believe she needs to go back to school and learn how to treat customers with respect. My entire family comes here, we have spend thousands of dollars in this place and it's always an issue with her. Zero stars!! Originally ordered large males. Upon receipt they were small, sent them back and asked for mixed medium/small. They brought the same ones out but half the price. They charge extra for condiments, mayo, ketchup, etc. Ordered additional food, brought out on dirty dishes and had dirty silverware. The place is nasty,the management is rude. Personal experience was unsatisfactory. Ordered a stuffed flounder. Upon food arrival, I asked the waitress what the flounder was stuffed with because there was no crabmeat on the plate at all. She was not able to see any on the plate either so I asked if we could just change the charge from stuffed flounder to regular flounder since there was no crabmeat. She couldn't do that, and called the floor manager. The manager said the crabmeat was on there, but the waitress and I couldn't see it, and then I was told that I ate it. They insisted that I ate it so despite my decorum and politeness in asking for some resolution, the floor manager couldn't look me in my eyes to talk to me so instead she called security. The restaurant manager was then called and again I was told that I ate the crabmeat and then talking over my plate she took my fork and used my fork to pick at the fillet of flounder. She then hastily took my plate and removed it from the bill and told me I couldn't order anything else. This was a blessing. The potato salad was tasteless and the beans were over seasoned. My daughter enjoyed her crab legs, the waitress was great, but management was poor. Of course, I would not recommend this place, unless you enjoy a school cafeteria-like environment with soulless people. Their inability to solve a problem was grotesque. read more

I will to Abner in Chesapeake Maryland and I had the worst experience in the world.so I ordered 2 dozens of crabs and house there were 27 crabs in the bag..smh..but before I felt the restaurant I ask the cashier is this 3 dozens she said yeah..when to my house in Clinton Maryland I put the crabs in the table and said this don't look right so counted them..I was pissed because I don't live close..I call the restaurant and told them they didn't give me all my crabs they told me I was lying..then I talked to the manager and she me I was lying too..but if I come back in April she will give me some extra..the fact they said I made up a story about some crab was very upsetting..never again read more

I got an order of steamed crabs and shrimp and some sides and it was my first time here. I was surprised at how big the place was and it was booming! The crabs were very good and my wife enjoyed the shrimp, and the sides were as you'd expect. The cream of crab soup was a bit gelatinous by the time we got to eating it but it was still tasty and overall the food was good. COVID times have me wondering if the gambling machines were necessary, but I guess it's a big part of the revenue of the business. read more
