I loved Bay Wine & Spirits. This was a great find in North Beach. This shop is very cute and has so many bottle options. You can get a bottle or glass and sip inside or outside. The glass options are more limited. We enjoyed our glasses outside, which was perfect. It's not on the water but just across the street and over, so you still get the bay feel. We love coming to North Beach area to relax and hang out. We came to Bay Wine to grab a glass and sit out on their porch. The staff is always so welcoming and very knowledgeable about wines if you are not sure what to get. They also offer tastings, if you are really unsure where to start. We happened upon this place a few years ago, and have been back several times. My wife had the idea of celebrating our 12th wedding anniversary and we spoke with the owners about holding it there for a small party of about 20 people. They were gracious and professional in providing a venue that all of our friends marveled at. Sharon worked tirelessly to make sure that everyone was taken care of. Several people purchased their own bottles of wine, and we had such an awesome time that it was all everyone could talk about. read more

Rude & unfriendly. After seeing other reviews it doesn't seem this opinion is uncommon. I walked in with my husband while we were doing some house hunting. We both work really hard & I was looking forward to having a nice glass of wine by the bay. I'm petting some cute dogs inside the shop when I hear an abrupt "What can I help you with?" by the woman working behind the counter. I stated I was interested in their wine tastings before I realized that they only do wine by the glass or bottle. No big deal & I was about to correct myself when loudly I get told "WE DON'T DO TASTINGS, IT'S BY THE GLASS". I said "I see that, I was about to correct myself". Then once again before I can even finish looking at the menu I get asked by the woman in a rushed voice "What can I get you?". I told her I wasn't sure yet as I was still looking. She then rudely states "Well do you like red or white? Do you know THAT?". I order the first red I see, a Merlot, and state I'll just take a glass of that. She then says "Well I'll still give you a tasting of it first, you can try any of them before picking one". However, at this point I tell her not to worry about it and I'll just take the glass. Her tone, abruptness, & rudeness just made me want to spend less time engaging with her or anyone in that shop. Even my husband was taken aback & opted not to order anything. Overall our short trip to North Beach was lackluster. Our visit into other shops was also very unwelcoming & uncomfortable. The people who work/live in this area are grumpy & bitter souls for some reason, so we can cross this off the house hunting list for sure! read more

We visited 8/15/20 or so. We visited from out of town (we come in from out of town often). I had a similar experience as Starr S and Taylor W below. Preferential treatment went to regulars, barely gave us any attention, even when we said we were buying several wines for our week vaca. She introduced the store as an "unpretentious wine boutique". You can't say you're unpretentious without being pretentious, and especially if you're a boutique. She gave us a taste of a single varietal French red. I had a few sips and told her it tasted like a blend I had before. She double checked, and said yes, it was a blend. In fact, the varietal she told us it was, was really the name of the region it was grown in. She then chit chatted with us a little more (clearly we knew something about wine); however, really gave the love to some regulars who came in. We were staying in Deale, but going to North Beach a lot. We ended up buy a couple bottles here, but then bought most of what we drank at Captain Kidds. read more

I've visited this store multiple times since it opened but only purchased once (a Vinho Verde). I have mixed feelings about Bay Wine & Spirits. Obviously, it goes without saying that the majority of items here can be purchased elsewhere for a little bit less. Part of purchasing here is supporting a local business and convenience. Usually I would stop by when I'd go to the weekly farmer's market to see what new wines they had. My experiences have varied. Sometimes I'm offered a tasting mostly I'm ignored. I noticed a review by Starr S. and that was very close to my experience more than once. These days I will stop in, look around, ear hustle what the owner and staff are telling the people they dote on, make mental notes and then purchase elsewhere. Perhaps one day they will treat everyone the same and get more business - I tend to buy wines by the case, not the bottle so there's that. read more

Wonderful store and Excellent staff! I visited Sunday and stopped in while waiting for crabs walked in and the Redskins were on the big screen! Invited to grab a seat and watch the game and enjoy a wine tasting, Perfect. Great atmosphere and very well stocked with some local wines and you can sit on the porth and enjoy looking at the bay and boardwalk, very relaxing. I'm horrible with names but the nice Lady running the store was very pleasant and helpful and we enjoyed watching the game and small talk. My daughter and I entered this establishment on Friday, December 4th. I was excited because it was my birthday and the night of the tree lighting ceremony on the pier. I decided to stop in and buy a few bottles for a social gathering. To my surprise, I was greeted with nothing but attitude and rudeness from the older woman there. I told her I was interested in purchasing a Riesling, Pinot Grigio, and a Merlot. She gave me a condiment cup to sample the Riesling. Minutes after arriving, two customers walked in and the woman greeted them with pleasantries (much different from our greeting). The woman immediately grabbed two glasses off of the wall and asked the couple what they would like to try tonight. The woman never made eye contact with us and proceeded to converse with the other customers, leaving us standing there. A few more customers walked in (as I stood there waiting to try the Pinot Grigio), and were greeted with pleasantries and glasses off of the wall. Because of the woman's horrible disposition, I felt we were interrupting something, so I asked was there an event going on tonight. She responded snippily, "NO, it's always like this on Friday nights, it's wine by the GLASS.", and turned her back to us. She never asked which bottles I wanted to purchase, and said nothing else to me. So I exited disturbed and disappointed with no further communication. It became obvious why I was treated so poorly. So sad and unfortunate. Terrible customer service. By the way, there were no customers there when we first arrived. This was my second time there, and my LAST! read more

We were walking down one of the main streets in North Beach and saw a wine sampling sign, so we decided to stop in. We were the only patrons in the building at that point but shortly after our arrival more showed up. We tasted 2 whites and 2 reds. They do not make any of their own, but they do have a small section for local Calvert County (Solomon's Island) wine. The last white I tried, a Chardonnay, was a nice mix of buttery and oaky. I am not the biggest Chardonnay fan, but when she said this was all they had left, I went ahead and purchased a glass for $7. It was a very, very generous pour since she was finishing the bottle. We chose to enjoy our wine in the comfort of A/C inside. They have some interesting antique chairs and couches to sit on while you sip. They also have live music at least one weekend night each week. We talked at length with the owner's husband and enjoyed our time in the store. If you visit North Beach, definitely make this a stop on your trip! read more

The owner is very personable and provides a great place to sample wines on her tasting nights. She provides the wines at reasonable prices per glass, and you can bring snacks in to make sure the night is complete. It's fun to go with a group of friends and sit on the porch. read more

This is more of a wine shop than anything, the spirits selection is pretty small and a bit pricier due to their lower volume, but they do carry quality spirits. The lady that runs it is extremely pleasant and friendly, as is her father whom apparently helps her out around the store a bit. She clearly knows her product very well and had no problem reeling off info on everything from her selection and pricing, info and suggestions on the regions that I was interested in, as well as notifying me of some current trends in these. Another cool thing is that on Friday evenings there are a group of businesses that stay open later (along with the restaurants and bars that already do) to allow people to sample their products. There is free wine and food here and she even keeps some beer stocked in case men feel a bit too fufu about drinking wine. I haven't gone yet, but one of these weekends I'll get around to it. Being more of the city type and someone who generally does not need much customer service I found what was offered here very inviting and would not hesitate to return if looking for the perfect bottle of wine, which is priced pretty well. read more

This is a neat little wine shop. On Fridays after the Farmer's Market, I love stopping by for a spell of sipping wine and sitting on the porch. They always have great wine samples. Additionally they have a pretty decent selection of Maryland wines. All and all if you're in the neighborhood, I'd definitely suggest stopping by. read more

Very "crabby" / and pretentious owner. Gave 2 samples in plastic : ketchup to go/ plastic cup. She continued recommending wines but would then say " but I don't have any open". I bought a bottle of wine of what she did give us a sample and left quickly to get away from her poor attitude.
